My Upperclassman Wants me to confess my feelings - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Jealousy
In the hospital ward, Cheng Wu was relaying the police statements and the final handling of the case to Bei Wenxin. Wenxin stared at her without blinking, her eyes soon misting over with a layer of water.
The moment Cheng Wu finished speaking, Bei Wenxin directly grabbed her hand. Amidst her lingering fear, she wept with gratitude: “If it weren’t for you, Senior, I wouldn’t have known what to do.”
Recalling the situation at the time—when she fell in the restroom—half of her body had gone numb with pain so instantly that her first cry for help didn’t even make it out. It wasn’t until a sharp, agonizing pain shot through her right leg that she finally managed to scream.
She wanted to stand up and open the door, but she didn’t have an ounce of strength. No one knew how hopeless and terrified she felt in that moment.
Fortunately, Cheng Wu’s voice appeared outside the door immediately after. She knocked urgently, asking: “Wenxin, are you in there? Are you okay? Can you open the door? If not, I’ll find a way! Don’t worry! Don’t be afraid! I’ll get you out!”
In that instant, Bei Wenxin’s tears flowed uncontrollably. Cheng Wu’s constant comfort and encouragement significantly lessened her fear and pain.
Because she was in too much pain to stand, she simply couldn’t open the door. But very quickly, Cheng Wu leaned her upper body over from the adjacent stall, using a mop to exert all her strength to push open the locked latch.
Even now, Bei Wenxin didn’t know how Cheng Wu had managed to climb up there, or how she had pushed the latch open so precisely and quickly.
Once the door was open, Cheng Wu carefully helped her up. Seeing her dress was soaked, Cheng Wu unhesitatingly took off her own jacket and tied it around Wenxin’s waist. Moreover, upon discovering the oil smeared on the floor and handrails, Cheng Wu called the police directly.
Bei Wenxin’s tears kept falling. If not for Cheng Wu, she had no idea what kind of situation she would be in right now.
Cheng Wu sat on the edge of the bed to soothe her, and Bei Wenxin suddenly threw herself into Cheng Wu’s arms, crying like a helpless child.
…
At the door, Xiaohan returned after getting some hot water, just in time to see this scene.
After being hugged, Cheng Wu froze for a moment before gently patting Bei Wenxin’s back: “It’s okay now. Everything is fine now.”
Is Senior this good to everyone? So, Wenxin can hug Senior and cry too…
Xiaohan stood dazed at the doorway until the family members of another patient needed to pass, prompting her to hurriedly step aside. After stepping out, she suddenly reacted—why did she feel the need to retreat?
“Xiaohan!” Cheng Wu noticed Xiaohan at the door; her mood seemed a bit off.
Carrying the thermos inside, Xiaohan poured water for Bei Wenxin while stealing glances at her. Wenxin looked very at peace, a smile on her lips, her gaze fixed unmovingly on Senior.
The hot water flowed slowly into the cup, soon filling it to the brim and overflowing onto the table. The patient in the next bed called out to remind her: “Little girl, the water is overflowing!”
Startled, Xiaohan flinched; the stream surged and the hot water splashed onto her hand, instantly scalding her fingers and the back of her hand red.
The stinging pain made Xiaohan let out a sharp “hiss.” Fortunately, the family member from the next bed helped steady the thermos so the hot water wouldn’t keep splashing.
Cheng Wu came over immediately, pulling Xiaohan quickly to the sink in the restroom to rinse her hand under cold water. After a full fifteen minutes, Cheng Wu turned off the tap and inspected Xiaohan’s hand. Seeing that no blisters had formed, she breathed a sigh of relief.
“How could you be so careless?” Cheng Wu saw Xiaohan keeping her head down, unsure of what she was thinking.
The scalded area was originally hot and painful, but whether it was because of the cold water or because her hand was being held by Cheng Wu, Xiaohan suddenly felt that it didn’t hurt at all anymore.
After a long while, she replied in a small voice: “I was thinking about how Senior rescued Wenxin back then, since the restroom door was locked from the inside.”
Cheng Wu patted her head: “Let’s go apply some medicine first. I’ll tell you the details on the way home.”
After getting some burn ointment from the nurse and applying it for Xiaohan, Cheng Wu took her to say goodbye to Bei Wenxin.
Looking at Cheng Wu’s retreating back, for some reason, Bei Wenxin suddenly asked: “Will Senior come to see me tomorrow too?”
At that moment, Cheng Wu keenly sensed something. She turned back with a smile: “I’ll come if I have time.”
Bei Wenxin’s mother had returned from speaking with the doctor. Hearing her daughter’s words, she couldn’t help but chide: “You silly child, Cheng Wu and Xiaohan have classes tomorrow!”
“Oh, right.” Bei Wenxin didn’t even realize how disappointed she sounded.
…
Xiaohan watched Bei Wenxin’s expression, and the emotions she felt at the doorway earlier resurfaced. A thought suddenly popped into her head: I hope Senior’s schedule is full tomorrow!
In an instant, Xiaohan was shocked—how could she have such a thought! It was perfectly normal for Senior to visit Wenxin!
Cheng Wu said her goodbyes to Bei’s mother and left the hospital with Xiaohan. On the bus, Xiaohan and Cheng Wu sat in the very back row.
She didn’t speak the entire way. Cheng Wu looked at her from time to time, suddenly saying: “You don’t look very happy.”
“I…” Xiaohan was a bit flustered. Her hands gripped her knees restlessly, and her eyes blinked incessantly. “I—I’m worried about Wenxin.”
In reality, she just didn’t want Senior to go see Bei Wenxin alone.
Cheng Wu watched every little movement and expression, each one indicating that Xiaohan’s words were insincere; she was clearly lying.
“There aren’t many classes tomorrow.”
The moment those words were out, Xiaohan jerked her head up and said: “Then I’ll come with Senior to see Wenxin!”
Cheng Wu was stunned, then asked helplessly: “But don’t you have a full day of classes tomorrow? And you promised Wenxin you’d take notes for her!”
Without any hesitation, Xiaohan said directly: “Ding Ming will take good notes! I’ll take a leave of absence to go with you!”
Looking at her determined and stubborn eyes, Cheng Wu seemed to understand something. A hint of a smile grew in the depths of her eyes: “When did I say I was going to see Wenxin tomorrow?”
“Eh?” Xiaohan was dazed, and in a flash of realization, she understood what was happening.
She was jealous of Bei Wenxin!
Senior wasn’t her Senior alone, yet she was actually unhappy about Senior seeing Wenxin alone! How could she be like this!
Shame instantly flooded her heart. Xiaohan became even more restless, unable to stop picking at her knees.
At this moment, Cheng Wu stared intently at Xiaohan, a light gradually gathering in her eyes. It turned out that in Xiaohan’s heart, she was different from Ningning or Zhao Ru.
…
After getting off the bus, the two entered the school and walked along the tree-lined path. Cheng Wu told Xiaohan about the situation inside the restroom.
As Xiaohan listened, she grew increasingly tense. Finally, she looked up and asked: “What would have happened if Senior hadn’t called the police?”
“We probably would have ended up in an endless argument with the restaurant. Even if they found out Wu Yue poured the oil, without fingerprint confirmation on the oil dish, she likely would have denied it to the death. Wenxin would have suffered in silence.”
When Cheng Wu saw the oil on the floor at the time, she immediately looked at the handrails. Sure enough, there was oil there too! Without needing any extra evidence, she knew someone had intentionally tried to harm Wenxin.
At that time, she was thinking even more, perhaps that person wasn’t just targeting Bei Wenxin, but was targeting Xiaohan and Ningning as well.
No one knew that at the time, Cheng Wu actually felt a bit of relief: Thank goodness Xiaohan was okay.
