My Sweet And Submissive Bunny Won't Stop Being Clingy - Chapter 30
Meng Hemian’s sleep was restless.
In a trance, she felt as if she were submerged in water, her limbs entangled by an octopus, unable to move. One moment she was sweltering, trying to lower the air conditioning in a half-awake state, the next, she felt breathless, as if a scalding heavy stone were pressing against her chest, or perhaps…
Meng Hemian’s eyelashes fluttered as she squinted open her eyes.
Fortunately, she was a disciplined sleeper; she woke up in the same position she fell asleep in. She hadn’t stolen Wen Shuyao’s blanket, nor had they rolled into a tangle.
The morning sunlight slipped through the gaps in the curtains, slowly climbing onto the bed and illuminating the chubby cheeks and pointed ears of a little rabbit. It was a rabbit that had slept in a mess, even the fur on top of its head was tousled and scruffy.
It was incredibly cute, enough for Meng Hemian to consider reaching for her phone to snap a photo, if only it wasn’t currently sprawled across her chest.
Meng Hemian instinctively held her breath. Under her gaze, the rabbit stretched its white paws and flattened itself out into a “rabbit loaf.” Its eyes remained closed, but its paws moved blindly, as if confirming the comfort level of its “new nest.”
Meng Hemian: “…”
Without mercy, Meng Hemian picked up the rabbit loaf and gave it a gentle shake. The little rabbit felt soft and squishy, as if its skin weren’t filled with flesh and bone, but with water. And yet, it still didn’t wake up.
Setting the rabbit aside, Meng Hemian sat up and rubbed her brow. Too much had happened yesterday; thinking about it now still felt like a tangled mess.
She rose leisurely to change her clothes. She took out her mother’s bracelet, stroking it carefully and buffing it with a soft cloth. Finally, she locked it away in a drawer, placed cautiously alongside Wen Shuyao’s box. For a broken bracelet to be repaired so perfectly in such a short time, it likely wasn’t human craftsmanship.
If it was a demon’s work… Wen Shuyao was also a demon, but she seemed no different from a human.
Turning back, she saw the little rabbit had changed positions, now sleeping flat on its back with its four paws in the air, its slightly bulging belly particularly prominent. Meng Hemian paused, walked over, and pulled a corner of the blanket to cover her.
Better not let her belly catch a cold.
The little rabbit, however, was ungrateful. It kicked the blanket away to use as a cushion, insisting on displaying its fluffy, snow white belly. She let out a yawn, eyes half-open and misty, making a muddled request: “You can touch it… it’s yours…”
Meng Hemian leaned down, trying to hear more clearly.
The sunlight hit the rabbit directly without obstruction. It was piercingly bright, and Wen Shuyao snapped awake instantly. She covered her face in panic; in her grogginess, she had almost let something slip. Fortunately, Meng Hemian couldn’t understand “rabbit speech.”
Meng Hemian ruffled the rabbit’s head fur even further into a mess, saying lazily, “It’s still early. You can sleep a bit longer.”
Wen Shuyao submissively nuzzled Meng Hemian’s fingers. Under the influence of instinct, she began trying to use the blanket to “nest.” Seeing her pawing here and stomping there, Meng Hemian was utterly confused.
She decided to wash up first, then sat at her desk to catch up on the work she’d missed over the past few days. She brewed a cup of coffee, the porcelain spoon occasionally clinked against the cup, making a crisp sound. The rich aroma of coffee drifted through the room while birds chirped in the sunlight outside.
The weather was wonderful. Such a cozy morning made it easy to find inner peace, especially when one owned a little rabbit demon. Meng Hemian was very satisfied with her current life.
The rabbit, having finished its nest, was also satisfied. She rolled around in the blanket filled with Meng Hemian’s scent and let out a cheerful sound.
“The weather is so good, I want to mate with Meng Hemian.”
“Cough….cough, cough!” Meng Hemian choked.
She doubled over, coughing violently, her face turning as red as her neck. Scared, Wen Shuyao jumped off the bed, rushing over to check on her without even putting on shoes. She patted Meng Hemian’s back anxiously. “Drink slower!”
After a few moments, Meng Hemian gradually recovered, though a faint flush remained on her face. She waved her hand to indicate she was fine.
She was only fine on the surface. Wen Shuyao’s choice of words had given her a massive internal shock, a tidal wave threatening to smash her boat of “propriety and self-restraint.”
Wen Shuyao went back to put on her shoes, muttering, “And drinking coffee on an empty stomach is bad for you. Wait a bit, I’ll go bake a soufflé cake.”
“Okay.”
Meng Hemian wished she could bury her face in her coffee cup. The progress her little rabbit wanted was far too fast, she wasn’t adjusted to it. It felt like being on a roller coaster.
In reality, Wen Shuyao was an adult rabbit, she knew exactly what “mating” meant. Demons didn’t have many rules, and she had long heard that mating with a loved one was a very happy thing.
As Wen Shuyao added a bit of lemon juice to the whipped egg whites, her mind went a little “yellow.” She really, really wanted to try…
Half an hour later, the soufflé grew fluffy in the oven, and Meng Hemian sat at the table drinking coffee, having regained her composure. She felt it was necessary to talk to Wen Shuyao about this “sharing a bed” situation.
Stirring her coffee with a blank expression, she looked up. “Yaoyao, you….”
“Hmm?” Wen Shuyao turned, holding the freshly baked soufflé.
The tail behind her was as fluffy as the soufflé, like a white cloud. Of course, Wen Shuyao’s skin was even whiter. It felt impolite to keep staring at someone’s tail, so Meng Hemian immediately looked down, her voice becoming much softer.
“Why are you wearing such short clothes?”
“It’s hot in the summer. I let my tail out to keep cool.”
Wen Shuyao didn’t think much of it. She drizzled a spoonful of honey over the soufflé and placed it on the table. The soufflé was perfectly timed, it wobbled at the slightest touch of a spoon, incredibly soft. In the mouth, it was full of lemon fragrance, dissolving instantly like a bite of a light cloud.
Meng Hemian instinctively compared it to the “bread rabbit” from before, she felt the latter was even softer. She put down her fork and spoke seriously again: “Actually, I wanted to….”
“Is it good?” Wen Shuyao asked impatiently.
Her eyes were sparkling. The way she leaned her head in was exactly like a rabbit begging for pets.
Interrupted once more, Meng Hemian took a deep breath. Then she nodded earnestly. “Yes.”
Receiving the praise she wanted, Wen Shuyao gave a shy smile. “By the way, what were you going to say?”
Forget it. Meng Hemian felt a sense of resignation. Compared to Wen Shuyao’s “thousand miles a day” pace of progress, sleeping together wasn’t that unacceptable.
She reorganized her thoughts. “I wanted to ask, what do you think about the partnership I mentioned before?”
Wen Shuyao didn’t hesitate. “I’m willing. I want to help you.”
As Meng Hemian drank her coffee, she felt a sweetness on the tip of her tongue, something in her heart felt filled. A faint smile touched her eyes. “Then in a few days, we can go get a health certificate.”
This was a requirement for working in the food industry, especially since Wen Shuyao would be making pastries by hand.
“Um…” Wen Shuyao instinctively bit her fork. “Actually, I don’t have a human ID card.”
After all, no one checks a rabbit’s household registration. Seeing Meng Hemian frown, she quickly put down the fork and added, “I don’t have a demon one either. I’m an illegal resident.”
This was purely due to Tu Shanxiu’s laziness. A demon ID provided many conveniences for living in human society, but Tu Shanxiu had a personal grudge against the Demon Management Bureau and never thought to take Wen Shuyao to register.
Meng Hemian was confused. She knew the owner of the cat cafe was also a demon. “Then how did your shop pass inspection?”
Wen Shuyao lacked confidence, murmuring, “The shop was opened using someone else’s identity.”
Meng Hemian understood. Good grief, the whole place is a nest of illegal residents.
The atmosphere fell into a brief, awkward silence. She looked down, pondering a reasonable solution. But Wen Shuyao was thinking even further.
Having been an “illegal resident” for twenty-odd years, the little rabbit demon was panicking for the first time. She suddenly grabbed the hem of Meng Hemian’s clothes, her eyes wavering. “If I can’t get a health certificate, will I be taken away? Will I get you sent to jail?”
Meng Hemian wasn’t entirely sure. “It probably won’t come to that…”
As soon as she said it, Wen Shuyao spoke aggrievedly, “I want to help at your shop, but I don’t want to cause you trouble.”
She was genuinely anxious; she didn’t want to implicate Meng Hemian, but she also wanted to stay close and do what she could. Seeing her so agitated she looked ready to start burrowing, Meng Hemian let out a soft laugh and reached out to rub her head.
Wen Shuyao unconsciously nuzzled back, looking at her expectantly. Meng Hemian couldn’t help but rub her head again.
She asked, “Will registering your identity as a demon in human society limit your freedom?”
“I don’t think so…” Wen Shuyao had only heard of demons being taken away if they committed crimes. A well-behaved demon like her could adapt to human societal rules just fine.
Hearing this, Meng Hemian felt relieved and finalized their next itinerary. “Then let’s go back to Yaocheng. I can bring my things over while we’re at it.”
The demon society was like another world with its own operating rules. She didn’t know much about it and was even in a relatively weak position. But for the little rabbit in her home, Meng Hemian was willing to step into that completely foreign world, just as Wen Shuyao was working hard to participate in hers.
“One more thing,” Meng Hemian said at a steady pace. “I wanted to tell you before, you don’t need to pay last quarter’s rent. After all, you’ve been doing all the housework.” She added a rare joke, “Besides, given our relationship, it wouldn’t look right to keep charging you rent.”
Wen Shuyao listened intently.
Meng Hemian continued, “Also, regarding the shop’s profits, I will give you at least half.”
This was completely unexpected for Wen Shuyao. She had intended to help and never planned on making money from Meng Hemian. Often, once money touches a relationship, people grow distant. She didn’t want that and gripped Meng Hemian’s hem helplessly. “But you just said, our relationship…”
“It’s precisely because of that that I should pay you. No relationship is a reason to get free labor.” Meng Hemian didn’t back down.
She explained her values like a casual afternoon chat: “My mother willingly was a housewife for over a decade. But I’ve always felt that shouldn’t be the ‘duty’ of a wife or a mother.” She took Wen Shuyao’s hand, her tone gentle. “Similarly, opening a shop with me isn’t your ‘duty.’ With your skills, you could totally start your own business. Even if you worked at the cat cafe, the boss would pay you, right?”
Wen Shuyao understood now. Meng Hemian was truly looking out for her, even disliking the idea of her being at a disadvantage. She pursed her lips and threw herself into Meng Hemian’s arms, hugging her tightly. “Meng Hemian, you’re so good!”
If only I could get intimate with Meng Hemian, it would be even better.
Even though they shared a bed, she could smell that familiar scent but couldn’t do anything about it. It was so frustrating!
She had to think of a way! Think of a way! [Little Rabbit Clenching Fist.jpg]
