My Sweet And Submissive Bunny Won't Stop Being Clingy - Chapter 31
Having never traveled far in her life, let alone to a bustling metropolis, Wen Shuyao was excited all day. Like a little rabbit preparing for winter, she busily packed her clothes and supplies, bundled the rabbits from her pen to be cared for at the cat cafe, and watered the roses in the garden.
Meanwhile, Meng Hemian asked her for the WeChat contact of the cat café owner, intending to learn more about the social rules of spirits. The owner’s profile picture was a black silhouette of a cat. According to Wen Shuyao, she was a cat spirit who had lived for hundreds of years, moving effortlessly between the human and spirit worlds. The spirits of Jianglou respectfully called her: Miss Cat.
The verification passed quickly, and Miss Cat sent two voice messages in succession.
“Are you Meng Hemian?” “Hmph, what do you want with me, miao?”
That haughty tone and familiar voice made it clear to Meng Hemian: the hidden boss of the cat café was indeed that white cat.
Meng Hemian typed: 【Hello, I want to open a shop with Yaoyao. Could I consult you regarding the identity issues of spirits?】
The white cat’s tail lashed back and forth. “You’re taking away the spirit under my wing, and you have the nerve to ask me how to do it? Presumptuous, miao!”
The “clever” human’s abacus was clicking so loudly she could hear it all the way at the café! She spoke with great momentum, but Meng Hemian could only visualize a big white cat squatting in front of a phone, fur bristling, pressing the voice button with a paw. It was impossible to feel intimidated.
Meng Hemian replied calmly: 【My apologies, it was indeed inconsiderate of me. Yaoyao said she wants to buy you a gift in Yaocheng. Is there anything you’d like? I’ll bring a few items as an apology as well.】
A gift? The white cat’s pupils narrowed into slits, and her mouth curled up. She flicked her tail and reluctantly pressed the voice button with her paw pad: “Hmph, at least you’re sensible. I have an electronic manual issued by the Spirit Management Bureau. I can transfer it to you, miao.”
【Thank you.】
The white cat added: “I want to eat Yaocheng dried small fish, miao!”
【Understood. I’ve noted it down.】
Meng Hemian waited patiently. One minute passed, no movement on the screen. Three minutes, not even a transfer box popped up. Five minutes later, Meng Hemian finally couldn’t help but ask: 【Boss? Are you still there?】
The white cat instantly sent a string of voice messages. The phone played them automatically, and the cat’s bristling, angry voice echoed through the living room: “How bold, miao! How could a cat’s paw operate things that quickly?!”
Meng Hemian: “……”
She didn’t dare ask again. She sat up straight, obediently waiting for the cat boss to finish. She wasn’t angry in fact, she found it a bit amusing. Because kittens are so cute, they are highly popular in human society, and she was no exception.
Soon, the electronic file from the Spirit Management Bureau arrived. Meng Hemian clicked it open to study.
“Does Meng Hemian like cats?” Wen Shuyao’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear.
Unprepared, Meng Hemian’s hand jerked, accidentally flipping several pages of the document. It landed right on the logo of the Yaocheng branch of the Spirit Management Bureau, a silhouette of a cat’s profile. She turned her head and met Wen Shuyao’s deep gaze.
Like a jealous “vinegar jar” rabbit catching its partner fooling around outside, a chill ran down Meng Hemian’s spine. She explained rapidly: “I like ‘Little Bread’ (the rabbit).”
She didn’t even dare say “rabbits” as a general category.
Yet, Wen Shuyao caught the loophole. She sat directly on Meng Hemian’s lap, gently hooking her arms around her neck. In her usual, slightly aggrieved tone, she asked: “What about Wen Shuyao then?”
Do you like the rabbit or the person?
It was an unreasonable question, trying to split herself in two and asking which half was preferred. But Wen Shuyao didn’t think there was a problem. Meng Hemian had spent the early days constantly muttering about “Little Bread.” She grumbled, her finger poking Meng Hemian’s collarbone repeatedly.
“I suspect you like my original form more.”
Meng Hemian lowered her eyes uncomfortably. They were too close, close enough to count Wen Shuyao’s thick eyelashes. Those soft, full lips were right there, making stray thoughts grow. She forced herself to think of something else.
“I like you more,” Meng Hemian said slowly. “Even if you couldn’t turn into a rabbit, I would still think you’re cute.”
It was a perfect answer, but Wen Shuyao’s focus had already shifted. She blinked. “It’s the first time I’ve heard you say you ‘like’ me.”
“Is that so?” Meng Hemian froze, surprised that she could say such a thing so naturally now.
She was immediately pulled into a full embrace by Wen Shuyao. A fluffy head pressed against the crook of her neck, hair tickling her skin. Not knowing where to put her hands as Wen Shuyao kept nuzzling her, Meng Hemian, in a panic, simply placed her hand on the back of the girl’s neck to hold her still.
She heard Wen Shuyao whisper, “I like hugging Meng Hemian.”
Meng Hemian didn’t dare breathe, yet in the overlap of their body heat, she felt a sense of joy and fulfillment. She hugged Wen Shuyao back, enjoying the warmth. Meanwhile, Wen Shuyao rested her chin on Meng Hemian’s shoulder, happily thinking: We’ve hugged, so surely Meng Hemian can kiss me now?
Respecting Meng Hemian’s wishes and moving step by step… I really am a sensible little rabbit spirit!
Arrival in Yaocheng
The departure date was set. Since Wen Shuyao didn’t have an ID card, she couldn’t buy a high-speed rail ticket. Meng Hemian had to tuck her into a pocket and take a long distance bus where security was less strict.
Once they were settled, the little rabbit poked her head out of the pocket, gripping the edge to look out. As the bus hit the highway, the familiar city faded away. The distant mountains and roadside houses were all novel to her. This was her first long trip, there would be many more opportunities to travel with Meng Hemian in the future.
Using her backpack as a shield, Meng Hemian fed Wen Shuyao small biscuits. The thumb-sized snacks were perfect for grinding teeth. The rabbit nibbled away while watching the scenery. After finishing half a bag, she climbed out of the pocket and stretched up to hug Meng Hemian. Her dependence was shown through body language and comfortable purring. Even the dense Meng Hemian could sense the emotion behind it.
Wen Shuyao’s love was generous and never hidden; she laid it all out for everyone to see. This was rare for Meng Hemian, who was used to people being emotionally reserved.
“Sleep for a bit,” Meng Hemian stroked the rabbit’s fur. “We’ll be there when you wake up.”
Wen Shuyao nodded dizzily and fell into a dream. By the time she woke, the sky was turning dark. Meng Hemian carried the rabbit and returned to her home in Yaocheng.
Having been empty for two months, there was a thin layer of dust. But thanks to Meng Hemian’s minimalist lifestyle, it wasn’t too bad.
Wen Shuyao poked around and gave her evaluation: “This is your home? It looks more like a hotel.”
The empty coffee table and bare cabinets looked like a place where even a thief would have nothing to steal. The black, white, and gray color scheme was devoid of surprises, monotonous like drizzling rain. Remembering Meng Hemian’s past, the rabbit worried about her.
She pulled out a new rag and asked seemingly casually: “How did you live before?”
Meng Hemian suspected Wen Shuyao actually meant: “What kind of inhuman life were you living?”
After all, Wen Shuyao liked a spotless home with pastoral sofa covers and checkered tablecloths. She kept fresh flowers and cooked delicious dinners. Compared to the grandmother’s house, this place lacked the “breath of life.”
Meng Hemian thought back and shook her head. “I don’t remember.” The longer she stayed in Jianglou, the blurrier her memories of this place became. Even being back didn’t feel entirely real.
She took the rag from Wen Shuyao. “Don’t rush to work. Rest a bit. I’ll show you around.”
Wen Shuyao tilted her head. “I know how to stay in a hotel.”
Meng Hemian: “……” The rabbit at home knows how to tease me now. Unbelievable.
“Come here,” Meng Hemian said calmly.
Wen Shuyao’s eyes widened, and she took several steps back. “What are you planning to do to me?”
“Take you to dinner.”
Wen Shuyao frowned, walking out slowly. “Oh, okay.”
Meng Hemian was puzzled. Why did the spirit look so disappointed? She didn’t know that Wen Shuyao was thinking: When will Meng Hemian ever take the initiative?!
After a quick, highly-rated meal and some basic cleaning, they set up the master bedroom with new sheets. Wen Shuyao, of course, was sleeping in the same room as Meng Hemian! Having achieved her goal of moving into the master bedroom, she now aimed for her next big target.
The clever rabbit came up with a new plan.
The bathroom in Meng Hemian’s house had a dry-wet separation with frosted glass. Hearing the sound of the shower, Wen Shuyao tiptoed to the door and aimed for her target. Her fingers brushed against soft cotton fabric.
To get what you want, you have to be bold. Besides, taking a girlfriend’s clothes isn’t really stealing, is it?
She told herself this was the price Meng Hemian had to pay for rubbing the rabbit so much!
When Meng Hemian finished her shower and went to the shelf, her pajamas were gone. She frowned. She clearly remembered putting them there. They had vanished into thin air. Or…
Feeling a bit uneasy, Meng Hemian wrapped herself in a bath towel and headed to the bedroom for a fresh set. As soon as she pushed the door open, she saw Wen Shuyao, who had also showered and was wearing a nightgown. Her hair was damp, her cheeks were flushed from the steam, and she was clutching a set of clothes. Her eyes were full of hesitation.
She looked exactly like someone who had just done something bad and was about to do something worse.
The scene stunned Meng Hemian. Her brain entered protection mode and ceased to function. Why were her pajamas in Wen Shuyao’s hands?
“Meng Hemian,” Wen Shuyao stepped forward, crumpling the pajamas nervously. She whispered, “Do you want to have a taste of the rabbit?”
The exhausted Meng Hemian struggled to process this. What is happening now?
