My Soft, Delicate Fiancée Turned Out to Be an Alpha - Chapter 2
The scent of tuberoses lingered around Shen Wanli, that alpha fragrance spraying directly onto her scent glands.
Although alpha glands are congenitally atrophied, they can still feel things, and this aura made Shen Wanli extremely uncomfortable, causing her to push Jiang Rou away with unconsciously increased force.
This kind of rejection undoubtedly stimulated the possessive alpha, tightening her hold on Shen Wanli slightly. That sinful pair of lips pressed against Shen Wanli’s neck, murmuring, “So fragrant.” This undoubtedly made Shen Wanli, who was an alpha herself, feel violated, and she began to struggle fiercely.
With a single “Ah” cry of pain, Shen Wanli turned her head and saw Jiang Rou sitting on the ground.
Shen Wanli instantly panicked, hurriedly squatting down and asking anxiously, “Xiaorou, what’s wrong?”
Jiang Rou clutched her ankle. Her naturally fair skin had turned even paler from the pain, as if soaked in cold sweat. When she raised her head, those moist eyes looked like an abandoned puppy, appearing very pitiful. “It hurts, Sister, it hurts so much. I just gave you a hug, do you have to hate me this much?”
Shen Wanli saw that the fair ankle was already swollen high. Today, likely because of the formal occasion of the charity gala, Jiang Rou had worn high heels.
Shen Wanli knew how strong her own physical strength usually was. Even though Jiang Rou had undergone secondary sex differentiation into an alpha, she had considered herself an Omega for so many years, so she was inevitably delicate.
Shen Wanli felt a pang of heartache, her tone softening unconsciously. “Sister swears I didn’t mean to. I’ll take you to the hospital right now.”
With that, Shen Wanli scooped Jiang Rou up in a bridal carry and put her into the car.
Jiang Rou’s head rested on Shen Wanli’s shoulder, the corners of her mouth curling into a triumphant smile.
“The patient was wearing high heels, so some tendons were strained, but it’s not a major issue. She just needs rest and recuperation,” the doctor said after reviewing the scans.
Jiang Rou looked somewhat listless, nodded, and looked at Shen Wanli. “Could you please trouble Sister to take me home?”
Seeing Jiang Rou’s expression, Shen Wanli felt deeply apologetic. “Xiaorou, Uncle and Auntie are so busy, they probably don’t have time to take care of you. Why don’t you move into my apartment so I can look after you first? Once you’ve recovered, I’ll send you back, which will also save Uncle and Auntie from worrying.”
Upon hearing Shen Wanli’s words, Jiang Rou’s eyes lit up, but then dimmed again as if she had thought of something. “Better not. I’m afraid Sister will feel uncomfortable, and what if you end up hating me even more?”
Shen Wanli reached out and ruffled Jiang Rou’s hair. “Don’t say that. How could I ever hate Xiaorou?”
Only then did Jiang Rou raise a smiling face, leaning into Shen Wanli’s arms. “Then I want Sister to carry me inside.”
Shen Wanli chuckled chuckled helplessly. “Alright.”
Back at the house, sleeping arrangements became a problem. At the time, this apartment was only lived in by Shen Wanli alone, and there was only one bed in the master bedroom.
“I’ll sleep on the couch, Xiaorou, you sleep in the master bedroom.” Shen Wanli finished making the bed, gathered her duvet, and prepared to head to the living room, but was grabbed by Jiang Rou.
“Let’s sleep together, Sister. The living room is cold.”
“But.” Shen Wanli hesitated.
Jiang Rou raised an eyebrow. “We’re both alphas, what’s wrong with sleeping together? Or is Sister afraid I’ll do something to you?”
Thinking of Jiang Rou’s every move in the parking lot, Shen Wanli felt she shouldn’t stay in this room. “You sleep in this room. Given your current state, it really isn’t suitable for us to sleep together.”
Shen Wanli thought she wouldn’t be able to fall asleep tonight, but the day’s events had left her far too exhausted, and she drifted off in a haze anyway.
It wasn’t until steady breathing came from the living room that Jiang Rou slowly opened her eyes, got up, and walked toward the living room.
Moonlight spilled across Shen Wanli’s face, making her already gentle features look as soft as melting water.
Jiang Rou looked at that face, smelling the faint coconut milk scent in the air that was released as Shen Wanli relaxed. Her gaze was deep, carrying thick possessiveness and madness.
Jiang Rou reached out to stroke Shen Wanli’s hair, her eyes holding a trace of bitterness as she murmured aloud, “Sister, is being an Omega really that important? Just because I turned into an alpha, you don’t want me anymore? Then what on earth do all these years of our relationship mean? Is it really worth less than a gender?”
Shen Wanli, fast asleep, was destined not to hear Jiang Rou’s soft murmurs. After a long while, as if she had finally stared enough, Jiang Rou gently leaned down beside Shen Wanli, the faint coconut milk fragrance acting like a lullaby to put her quickly to sleep.
In her dream, Jiang Rou dreamed back to when the two of them were not yet fiancées. Jiang Rou had been afraid of the dark since she was little, but she was too proud to admit it.
That day, Jiang Rou went to Shen Wanli’s house to play. The two played very late, so Shen Wanli’s parents asked Jiang Rou to stay over and had a guest room prepared.
Jiang Rou was terrified of sleeping alone, but because of her pride, she was too embarrassed to say she wanted to sleep with Shen Wanli. She kept quiet all the way until bedtime, leaving her with no choice but to head to the guest room feeling dejected.
Just as Jiang Rou was lying in bed hugging her quilt with her eyes wide open, still not daring to turn off the room’s lights, Shen Wanli walked in. Seeing Jiang Rou curled up tightly in the bed, she chuckled, “Hey, kid, do you want to sleep with me?”
Hearing the voice, Jiang Rou pulled the blanket off her head and asked, “Why would I want to sleep with you?”
Shen Wanli glanced at Jiang Rou. “Aren’t you scared?”
Jiang Rou’s face instantly flushed bright red, but she stubbornly maintained her front. “I. I’m not scared at all.”
Back then, Shen Wanli didn’t have the good temper she had now. A child of that age naturally didn’t understand themselves, especially since she could have gone out to play with friends today instead of being told by her mother to babysit this crybaby.
The Shen and Jiang family parents had a great relationship, and the two girls were three years apart, so the families had hoped the children would be playmates. But when Jiang Rou was very little, Shen Wanli had seen with her own eyes how Jiang Rou would cry no matter who tried to hold her, causing Shen Wanli, who had wanted to hold the doll-like toddler herself, to back down.
Yet today, seeing this child’s scared yet tight-lipped expression, Shen Wanli went back to her room, thought about it for a while, and ultimately came back to ask Jiang Rou.
Shen Wanli thought for a moment. “In that case, I’m going back then.”
With that, she turned to leave the room. Jiang Rou on the bed hurriedly scrambled up, ran over, and hugged Shen Wanli, her voice pitiful. “Sister, don’t go, I’m scared.”
Shen Wanli patted Jiang Rou’s head. “Then hurry up and get your pillow.”
From that day on, Shen Wanli seemed to have a little tail following her everywhere. Jiang Rou always found excuses to come play at the Shen household and ask for Wanli Sister.
As the families gathered more and more often, watching the two of them inseparable, they went to an institution for a pheromone test. The two turned out to be an Alpha and an Omega match.
This delighted Mother Shen and Mother Jiang. While Shen Wanli was accompanying Jiang Rou in building toys, Mother Shen called the two over.
“Does Xiaorou like playing with your Wanli Sister this much?” Mother Shen asked with a smile, looking at Jiang Rou.
Jiang Rou, still holding a toy, looked blankly, but hearing the words Wanli Sister, her face instantly lit up with a smile as she nodded happily and let out a loud “Mm.”
“But when Wanli Sister grows up, she’ll have her own bride, and she won’t be able to play with Xiaorou anymore,” Mother Shen teased Jiang Rou intentionally.
Jiang Rou grew anxious, looking like she was about to cry. “I don’t want that! I want Wanli Sister to stay with me forever.”
“Well, what if Xiaorou becomes our Wanli Sister’s bride? Then you can be with Wanli Sister forever.”
“Really?”
“Really. So, are you willing?”
Upon hearing that they could be together forever, Jiang Rou broke her tears into a smile and said loudly, “I’m willing! I want to be Wanli Sister’s bride.”
Nearby, Shen Wanli watched the adorable Jiang Rou, feeling a wave of warmth in her heart.
Shen Wanli also had a dream. She dreamed she was being heavily crushed by something, and upon opening her eyes, she found Jiang Rou wrapped around her tightly like a snake.
Shen Wanli was being pressed down so hard she couldn’t quite breathe. She gave Jiang Rou a gentle push, and Jiang Rou woke up from the nudge.
“You’re awake? Is your leg still hurting?” Shen Wanli asked, seeing Jiang Rou open her eyes.
“It hurts. I need a kiss from Sister to make it better,” Jiang Rou said, acting coquettishly.
This sentence made it feel as though they had traveled back to the past. Shen Wanli smiled. “Stop messing around, I’ll go make you breakfast.”
Jiang Rou grabbed onto Shen Wanli. “Are you going to work today?”
“I’m not going today. Your leg needs dressing; I’ll have my assistant bring the documents over later.”
Learning that Shen Wanli wasn’t going to work today, Jiang Rou’s mood improved immensely.
Shen Wanli made a call to have her assistant drop off the documents, then headed to the kitchen to make breakfast for Jiang Rou.
As Jiang Rou ate the food prepared by Shen Wanli, her eyes suddenly reddened, and tears almost dropped into the porridge.
Nearby, Shen Wanli panicked upon seeing Jiang Rou suddenly cry, hurriedly asking, “What’s wrong, Xiaorou? Why are you crying?”
“I. I just didn’t expect you to still remember after all these years,” Jiang Rou said with a choked voice.
Shen Wanli looked at the porridge in Jiang Rou’s hands and suddenly understood. Jiang Rou had been a premature baby with a chronically weak constitution, frequently falling ill as a child, and whenever she was sick, she couldn’t keep any food down.
But how could an illness heal if you didn’t eat? Back then, Shen Wanli had thought of a simple solution: adding some sugar to white rice porridge. It was initially just a random try, but who would have known Jiang Rou would end up eating a large bowl that time.
Ever since then, Shen Wanli remembered it. Every time Jiang Rou fell ill, she would make this dish, and over time, it became a habit.
“If you’re that touched, hurry up and eat.” Shen Wanli coaxed Jiang Rou with a few words, and then went back to the kitchen to clean up.
Watching Shen Wanli’s retreating back, Jiang Rou felt a sour ache in her heart. Sister, you’re this good to me, how could you expect me to let go? I’ll work hard to make you accept me. It can only be me.
The doorbell rang. Just as Shen Wanli was about to come out, Jiang Rou limped her way over and beat her to the door.
The moment the assistant opened the door and saw Jiang Rou in home loungewear alongside Shen Wanli, she let out an audible gasp of shock. Having followed President Shen for several years, aside from that rumored fiancée, the assistant had never heard of President Shen keeping any other women around. Pointing at Jiang Rou, she stammered, “You. You.”
Seeing the assistant stuttering away with endless you’s, Jiang Rou smiled, leaned against Shen Wanli’s shoulder, and extended a hand. “Hello, I’m the little kept pet of your President Shen.”
Hearing this, Shen Wanli glared fiercely at Jiang Rou. “Stop fooling around.”
She then looked at the assistant. “This is Jiang Rou, a friend of mine. Just leave the things here; I’ll call you if anything else is needed over the next couple of days.”
The assistant nodded, though a stormy sea was already churning in her heart. Jiang Rou? Is that President Shen’s former fiancée?
