My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale - Chapter 64
Gu Nanqiu curled up on the chair, hugging her legs. The buzzing of the hairdryer filled her ears, and she stared out the window at the swirling rain mist.
The vibrant colors of the LED lights flickered through the mist in Gu Nanqiu’s eyes. Behind her, Yue Yiyao’s hands skillfully ran through her hair.
Yue Yiyao looked down at Gu Nanqiu’s melancholic expression, as if she were worried about something serious.
Just wait, Yue Yiyao gently stroked Gu Nanqiu’s head. Gu Nanqiu would tell her about her worries and confusion later. She just needed a little time.
For now, she just needed to accompany this sensitive, slightly timid Gu Nanqiu and dispel her anxiety.
It took almost half an hour to dry the damp Gu Nanqiu completely.
Yue Yiyao touched the front of her clothes; it was mostly dry too.
“Nanqiu, my clothes are wet. I’ll go take a shower too.”
But she didn’t move.
Her collar was clutched by Gu Nanqiu: “But you’re already dry.”
Her voice was husky and clingy.
Yue Yiyao looked down and realized that the small damp patch on her clothes had vanished. Without further questioning, Yue Yiyao just assumed the air conditioning in the room was powerful. She put the hairdryer aside, momentarily unsure what to do next.
Gu Nanqiu curled her finger, signaling Yue Yiyao to come closer.
Yue Yiyao didn’t understand, but she complied.
Gu Nanqiu’s cheek pressed against her soft abdomen. Her voice, deliberately softened, carried a pitiful plea: “Yiyao, hug me, okay?”
In this moment, Gu Nanqiu was like a drowning person who had finally grasped the driftwood meant only for her rescue.
Yue Yiyao looked down, meeting those deep, hazel eyes. They reflected the patchy city lights and Yue Yiyao’s own reflection. For a moment, it felt like only the two of them existed in the world.
Yue Yiyao reached up and rubbed Gu Nanqiu’s head: “Sure. Still half-asleep? Should I hug you back to bed for a little longer?”
After receiving a vague affirmative answer, Yue Yiyao picked her up and walked toward the slightly messy bed.
“Is it because you hate the heavy rain?”
“You were so excited to come to City A.”
Yue Yiyao’s words were playful and teasing.
Gu Nanqiu poked her head out and gently bit Yue Yiyao’s neck, leaving a small tooth mark—a small retribution for the teasing.
“I don’t hate the heavy rain, and I don’t hate City A. I had a nightmare.”
“A very scary dream,” Gu Nanqiu sniffled and complained, dragging her tone, sounding slightly cross as if Yue Yiyao had underestimated her fear.
“You weren’t in the dream.”
“They were all lying to me!”
“Yes, I know.” Yue Yiyao resisted the urge to tease Gu Nanqiu further. She stroked Gu Nanqiu’s slender back: “So, I’ll hold you while you sleep, and you won’t have nightmares.”
Yue Yiyao covered Gu Nanqiu with the blanket, pulled her into her arms, letting Gu Nanqiu rest against her broad chest, listening to the comforting sound of her heartbeat.
Finally, she gently patted Gu Nanqiu’s back: “Sleep now, sleep now, Nanqiu. Don’t worry, don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
The rain outside was incessant. Strange shapes surged up from the distant mountains, then immediately vanished. Only a few pedestrians thought they had imagined it and continued to hurry along under their umbrellas.
A City Century Tower Rooftop
A man looked at the young figure who appeared before him, his eyes pouring forth blood tears in horror. Looking at the crushed bodyguards outside, he realized he could no longer escape…
He knelt down trembling: “Oh God—please forgive my sins—I am already a sinner, burdened with blood debt. I beg for your mercy…”
After a gurgling sound, blood stained half of the office.
The glamorous woman, wearing a blue shirt and a black long trench coat, clapped her hands. The attendant behind her immediately walked toward the vast bookcase in the office.
A moment later, a long, dark secret passage appeared in the room.
The attendant peeked through the entrance, then backed away toward the woman, reporting devoutly.
The woman glanced boredly at the windowpane. At some point, a malicious child had written on the glass: “i miss you.”
The attendant noticed the movement on the glass. Her body trembled, then she lowered her head and focused on the task at hand.
“She won’t die,” the woman’s voice was ethereal, luring the attendant into belief.
The attendant bowed her head lower: “Your mercy, my Lady.”
Her only reply was a soft laugh.
The sound of leather shoes on stone slabs echoed from the room, and the woman’s figure gradually disappeared from the office.
A strange ringing sound flashed through her mind, and Yue Yiyao groggily opened her eyes. She realized she had fallen asleep without knowing it.
Gu Nanqiu was still sleeping soundly in her arms, quiet and docile.
She definitely didn’t have a nightmare this time.
Yue Yiyao gently moved her arm, which was numb from the pressure. The person in her arms let out a soft sound: “Is your arm uncomfortable?”
Gu Nanqiu murmured, lifting her head slightly.
“It’s fine.”
After saying that, Yue Yiyao winced internally: “Are you awake? Do you want something to eat?”
She walked to the window. The rain was still falling, showing no sign of stopping. Looking down, she could see red and orange car lights flashing incessantly. It seemed a traffic jam had occurred.
The view outside was hazy. Yue Yiyao glanced at the time: 8:10 PM.
She casually turned on the hotel’s large projector and operated the smart robot to switch on the soft lighting.
She found two robes in the closet. Yue Yiyao tossed one to Gu Nanqiu, then pattered into the bathroom, kicking off her shoes to change into the plush robe she had been looking forward to for days.
A moment later, a fluffy Yue Yiyao emerged from the bathroom. She looked at Gu Nanqiu, who had already changed, and pointed to the expensive-looking speaker system: “Want to listen to music?”
Then she pulled a bottle of wine from some corner and looked at Gu Nanqiu excitedly: “Want a drink?”
The excitement in her tone was as if she had discovered some treasure.
Gu Nanqiu’s heart skipped a beat as she stood there. At this moment, Yue Yiyao didn’t know how captivating she was. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity for novelties, her hair was a little messy, but she looked vibrant and full of youthful energy.
The carefully chosen fluffy pajamas made her look like a big dog. Gu Nanqiu thought blankly: Why would we need to adopt a new small animal at home? There’s a ready-made one right here.
She climbed off the bed, her fair feet stepping on the wool rug. The red string around her ankle swayed, drawing Yue Yiyao’s attention.
“When did you put that on?” Yue Yiyao’s attention was instantly diverted by Gu Nanqiu. She curiously looked at the exceptionally well-maintained red string hanging on the fair ankle, her tone carrying a hint of inexplicable doubt.
“I just put it on after showering,” Gu Nanqiu vaguely dismissed the existence of the red string.
“Yiyao, why don’t you compliment me on how beautiful I am?” Gu Nanqiu tilted her head and smiled charmingly at her friend, adjusted her clothes, and tossed her hair.
Gu Nanqiu was already tall. The dark green robe made Gu Nanqiu’s face look fairer but enhanced her spirited look. The crisscross neckline exposed the perfect mole on Gu Nanqiu’s collarbone—truly enchanting. Her black long hair draped over her shoulders. Nanqiu standing still exuded nobility, like a distinguished monarch in a movie or a goddess descending to earth.
But what attracted Yue Yiyao’s attention more was the red string on Gu Nanqiu’s ankle.
Fragments of memory flashed through her mind.
She once held that segment carefully in her palm to warm it up, and then put that small segment of red string on.
“Safety and health—”
Snapping out of the fragmented memory, Yue Yiyao instinctively shook her head. What random thoughts was she having?
But seeing the string, she felt an itch in her hand, wanting to touch it.
Then she was startled by her own thought, and the tips of her ears quietly turned red. She self-consciously rubbed the tips of her ears and awkwardly averted her gaze.
Then, imitating Gu Nanqiu, she kicked off her shoes, enjoying the comfortable fluffiness under her feet.
“Nanqiu, this room is amazing! I can’t believe we’ll be spending some time here. You’re so good at choosing!” Yue Yiyao couldn’t help herself. She thrust the red wine into Gu Nanqiu’s arms and bounced around the room. She touched the coffee machine near the door.
She curiously poked the light on the button above. She had been curious about the water flow light since first entering, and now Gu Nanqiu was awake!
She pressed a button, and the room instantly darkened. Then specks of light fell onto the walls, finally gathering into a light that looked like a waterfall.
“Wow!” Yue Yiyao let out an unsophisticated sound, then realized her blunder. She cleared her throat and pretended to be mature: “This is quite beautiful, don’t you think?”
“Mhm, beautiful.” Gu Nanqiu pretended not to see Yue Yiyao’s behavior just now: “The starry sky light next to it isn’t bad either. Want to try it?”
“I was just about to,” Yue Yiyao nodded and pressed the starry sky light next to it.
Soon, specks of stars appeared on the wall. It was like a vast night sky. Yue Yiyao vaguely recognized the position of the Big Dipper based on her knowledge.
Gu Nanqiu stood on the other side with her arms crossed. Seeing Yue Yiyao’s curious look, the curve of her lips never dropped.
“Nanqiu, do you see it?”
“Mhm, I see it.”
Half an hour later, Yue Yiyao had almost finished exploring the room. She pointed to the speaker: “This is great! I’ll look up the price later. I declare that I’m buying this brand with my scholarship this year!”
“And that coffee machine by the door! When we go back, we’ll buy a coffee machine too! I’ll learn how to make coffee for you!”
After saying that, Yue Yiyao paused. She shook her head again: “Wait, I don’t drink coffee, and neither do you.”
Yue Yiyao burst into laughter at this thought: “When I see something good, I always want to get one for you.”
“Even if you won’t use it, I still think about bringing it back first.”
Yue Yiyao didn’t know when she had developed this habit. As a result, most of the things Gu Nanqiu owned were items Yue Yiyao had passed by, seen, and bought.
Including the two robes they were wearing, which she suddenly saw while chatting with her mother. With a few encouraging words from her mother, Yue Yiyao purchased two sets of the expensive yet exceptionally comfortable sleeping robes and delivered them to the person she deemed most suitable.
“You always think of me, no matter when.” Gu Nanqiu was still smiling, though a hint of loneliness, well-hidden, lingered in her eyes.
The speaker system played a melodious song at the right moment. Gu Nanqiu swayed the phone in her hand and then held up the other cylindrical wine bottle containing dark red liquid: “Didn’t someone say they wanted a drink just now?”
“Please—”
She turned sideways, revealing two wine glasses behind her. Gu Nanqiu bent slightly, making a gesture of invitation—
