My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Yu Zining stared blankly at Lu Yeyan and spoke: “Isn’t this what you want? I’m right here!”
Lu Yeyan’s brows furrowed deeply. “You know that’s not how I want you!”
Yu Zining’s lips curled into a cold smirk. “Then how do you want me? Like this?”
As he spoke, Zining abruptly hooked both arms around Lu Yeyan’s neck, bringing his cold lips close to Lu Yeyan’s.
Lu Yeyan violently pushed him away, and Yu Zining fell heavily back onto the bed.
Looking at Zining’s vacant expression, Lu Yeyan felt a surge of cold fury. Fine. If he wants me to be completely disappointed in him so I’ll kick him out, I’ll play along.
Lu Yeyan looked down at him with a flash of disdain in his eyes. “Heh, you really are boring. A body this lackluster… I don’t even want it.”
With that, Lu Yeyan stood up, grabbed his coat, and walked out of the room without looking back.
Yu Zining remained lying there, staring blankly at the ceiling. The piercing white light of the lamp forced a single tear from the corner of his eye.
Lackluster? In Lu Yeyan’s eyes, he really was just a plaything. As the thought took hold, Zining began to laugh hysterically, the sound filling the empty room with a haunting sadness.
…
At the Hospital
Having done her research, Li Ruixi discovered the hospital where Yan Yucheng was being treated. She hurried there, carrying a bouquet of roses.
She stopped at the door of the ward, took a breath, and knocked. The door opened to reveal Yan Yucheng’s mother, Mu Zhen, whose eyes were hollow with exhaustion.
“Auntie!” Li Ruixi exclaimed.
Mu Zhen’s eyes reddened. “Ruixi? You’re back?” They had a history; back when they were in China, Li Ruixi and Yan Yucheng had attended the same school.
Li Ruixi was invited inside. Looking at the woman on the bed, her brow tightened. When she had left the country, this “silly girl” had aggressively blocked her path, saying, “Leave and don’t come back—that way, Brother Yan will only have me.”
But now, she lay there with eyes closed, her face devoid of color, hooked up to a ventilator and surrounded by the cold, rhythmic beeping of machines.
Li Ruixi placed the roses by the bedside. “I remember Yucheng loved roses the most.”
Mu Zhen burst into tears, covering her mouth. Li Ruixi hurried to comfort her. “Auntie, please, take care of yourself.”
“My poor Chenchen… she has suffered so much,” Mu Zhen sobbed.
Li Ruixi lowered her gaze and asked carefully, “Auntie, what exactly happened to Yucheng?”
At the question, Mu Zhen’s swollen eyes flashed with murderous intent. “Lu Yeyan. It’s all because of Lu Yeyan. Chenchen was just being impulsive and went to find his new ‘wife.’ It upset them, so Lu Yeyan… They grew up together, and yet he could be so heartless!”
Li Ruixi shuddered. It really was Lu Yeyan. But knowing him, he wouldn’t do something this extreme just for that. Lu Yeyan appeared cold, but he was a man who valued loyalty. What was the missing piece of this story?
Just then, Yan Changzheng entered with a doctor. Seeing Li Ruixi, his face darkened with hostility. “You! What are you doing here? Did Lu Yeyan send you?”
Mu Zhen looked at Li Ruixi in shock.
Yan Changzheng continued coldly, “Li Ruixi, the current Chief Designer of YIY Group. It seems our cooperation with the Li family should come to an end.”
Mu Zhen’s expression shifted instantly. She grabbed Li Ruixi by the collar. “Li Ruixi! I thought you were sincere, but you’re just in league with Lu Yeyan! Get out!”
Pushed back, Li Ruixi panicked for a moment before speaking quickly: “Uncle, Auntie, you misunderstand. Partnering with YIY was my choice alone; it has nothing to do with my father. And I didn’t come here because of Lu Yeyan. I heard the news and came on my own. I want to know the truth. If Lu Yeyan is truly that kind of person, I need to protect myself from him.”
The room fell silent. Li Ruixi added, “Uncle, don’t you want Yucheng to get better?”
Yan Changzheng looked at her, startled. “What do you mean?”
Li Ruixi glanced at the doctor. “This is the specialist you brought in from Country L, correct?”
“How did you know?”
Li Ruixi smiled slightly. “I’ve been there to negotiate contracts before and happened to meet him. More importantly, I am very close with his mentor, Academician Mei.”
The doctor spoke up: “Now that you mention it, you do look familiar. I believe I saw you in my mentor’s office.”
Li Ruixi continued, “Uncle, Auntie, I truly want what’s best for Yucheng. Since Lu Yeyan is responsible for this, staying here isn’t good for her recovery. Let me contact Academician Mei. We should transfer Yucheng directly to his facility.”
The doctor agreed. “Mr. Yan, if we can get my mentor’s help, Miss Yan should wake up very soon.”
Yan Changzheng hesitated, unsure if he could trust her. But Mu Zhen, hearing the doctor’s words, grabbed her husband’s arm. “Changzheng, what are you waiting for? Do you want our daughter to stay in this coma forever?”
Yan Changzheng’s brow tightened. He turned to Li Ruixi. “Then… I’ll leave it in your hands.”
Li Ruixi smiled. “Don’t mention it, Uncle. It’s the right thing to do.”
She wasn’t lying; she quickly arranged the transfer, and Yan Yucheng was taken away that very night. However, Li Ruixi’s motives weren’t entirely pure. She wanted Yucheng to wake up because she needed to know the full story. She was certain Yucheng knew something critical.
…
Returning home, Li Ruixi finally had a moment to relax when her private investigator called.
“Miss, I looked into Yu Zining’s identity as you requested. I found nothing. It appears his records have been completely wiped.”
Li Ruixi was stunned. Of course. It had to be Lu Yeyan’s doing. But why go to such lengths? Even if Zining had a poor background, Lu Yeyan could have just altered the information to look better. Why turn him into a blank slate?
The mysteries were piling up, confirming Li Ruixi’s suspicions. Yu Zining was hiding a secret. Now, her only lead was Yan Yucheng. She could only hope the girl would wake up soon—and that what she knew wouldn’t be a disappointment.
