My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
Ever since the unpleasant incident between Yu Zining and Lu Yeyan, Lu Yeyan had rarely returned home. Even when he did come back at night, he slept in a different bedroom. It seemed Yu Zining had completely fallen from grace, and gossip began to spread like wildfire among the servants.
One day, Lu Yeyan called Li Ruixi into his office. As soon as she entered, she caught sight of his dark, brooding eyes. Her heart skipped a beat—is he in a bad mood?
“What’s wrong, Yeyan?” Li Ruixi asked tentatively.
Lu Yeyan fixed his gaze on her. “Did you investigate Yu Zining?”
Li Ruixi froze but quickly recovered. “You know I’ve always been cautious; I just didn’t want you to get hurt. But… since you didn’t want me to know, I stopped looking.”
After all, Lu Yeyan was the only person in this city capable of wiping a person’s past completely clean. Li Ruixi wasn’t stupid; if Lu Yeyan wanted to keep it a secret, she would play along.
Lu Yeyan said nothing more. Since her investigation had yielded nothing, he let the matter drop. Li Ruixi lowered her eyes and asked, “Who… exactly is Yu Zining?”
She still hoped Lu Yeyan would trust her enough to tell her the truth, but it turned out she was overestimating her position.
“That is not for you to know,” Lu Yeyan stated coldly.
Li Ruixi felt a wave of resentment but managed a bitter smile. “Yeyan, I know you are methodical, but I must remind you… be careful in everything.” Seeing his somber expression, she swallowed the rest of her words and left the office, looking pale.
She ran into Shen Ziqi in the hallway. “Designer Li, are you feeling unwell?” Shen Ziqi asked.
Li Ruixi didn’t say a word. She shot a glare at Shen Ziqi and brushed past her. Confused, Shen Ziqi sighed and entered Lu Yeyan’s office. One look at his face told her things hadn’t gone well.
“President, there is a matter,” Shen Ziqi said after a long hesitation.
“Speak.”
“Miss Yan Yuchen has been sent abroad for medical treatment.”
Lu Yeyan lowered his eyes. “That’s for the best. I offered better medical care more than once, but Yan Changzheng rejected it every time. Since she has a chance at better treatment now, let her go.”
Shen Ziqi opened her mouth to speak but hesitated.
“What is it?” Lu Yeyan asked.
“It was… Designer Li who provided the medical arrangements.”
Lu Yeyan’s eyes darkened, but he simply said, “Let her do as she pleases.”
Shen Ziqi found it increasingly difficult to understand what Lu Yeyan was planning. Yan Yuchen knew certain secrets—was he really not worried about Li Ruixi finding out? Or did he have other cards up his sleeve?
…
Yu Zining went out. He wore a mask, a white baseball cap, and men’s clothing. From a distance, it was impossible to recognize him.
Today, he had received a message from R Company saying that Li Yiyang was starting the recording session. He had to be there. After much thought, he decided to go; eventually, he would have to face the world with his true identity after leaving Lu Yeyan anyway.
As soon as Li Yiyang arrived at R Company, he was distracted, constantly looking around. His manager, Liu Momo, slapped him on the shoulder. “What are you doing?”
Li Yiyang snapped out of it, looking more like a restless kid than an idol. He smiled. “Will that mysterious Lemon-laoshi be here today?”
“I suppose so,” Liu Momo said. “I’ve noticed you can’t go three sentences without mentioning them. Don’t tell me you have a crush. Let me remind you: you’re an idol at the peak of your career. If you dare to date, you’re destroying your future.”
Liu Momo launched into a relentless lecture. Despite Li Yiyang’s powerful background, once he entered this circle and signed with this company, he had to follow the manager’s rules.
“Oh, stop it,” Li Yiyang said impatiently. “It’s not like that. I’m just curious about who wrote such amazing lyrics!”
“It better be just curiosity,” Liu Momo grumbled. “I checked—Lemon is coming today, so you’ll get to see them.”
A smile crept onto Li Yiyang’s face, but seeing Liu Momo’s sharp gaze, he quickly suppressed his joy.
…
Yu Zining arrived at R Company and saw Li Yiyang walking in from a distance. He sighed, hoping the boy wouldn’t pester him too much today. Standing at the door, his phone rang—it was Zhang Jie from R Company.
“Hello, this is Zhang Jie. Have you arrived?”
“Oh, I… I’m stuck in traffic. I’ll be there soon!” To avoid meeting Li Yiyang too early, he lied about being late.
“Li Yiyang is already here, and the recording hall is ready.”
Exactly as Yu Zining had calculated. He said, “Let everyone start then. Don’t wait for me. The lyrics and music are fine, and I’ve already told Li Yiyang what he needs to know over WeChat.”
Zhang Jie agreed. “Alright, we’ll start then. Get here as soon as you can.”
“Will do.”
Yu Zining put his phone away and looked up at the skyscraper before slowly walking inside.
In the recording hall, everything was set. Headphones and microphones were tested. Behind the glass stood Liu Momo, Zhang Jie, and the sound engineer.
The engineer spoke into the mic: “Yiyang, can we start?”
Li Yiyang looked through the glass. He saw the usual faces but not the one he was looking for. He gave a resigned “OK” gesture.
The recording began. As soon as Li Yiyang started to sing, everyone in the room was stunned. The style of the song matched his voice perfectly—it was as if it had been written specifically for him.
Yu Zining stood outside the door and slowly pushed it open. The heavenly voice flowed into his ears. Zhang Jie saw the disguised figure enter and knew it was him; they had agreed to respect his wish for anonymity.
“Are you Lemon-laoshi?” Zhang Jie asked.
“I am.” A clear, male voice rang out.
Liu Momo was taken aback. Li Yiyang had insisted Lemon was a girl. Well, she thought, Li Yiyang was wrong again.
“Hello, I’m Liu Momo.” After shaking hands with those present, they all turned to watch the man singing behind the glass.
Li Yiyang noticed the newcomer was heavily disguised. He frowned and met Yu Zining’s eyes. Yu Zining panicked and immediately looked away.
Li Yiyang froze. That look… why does it feel so familiar?
