My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Zheng Xiuying hurried to comfort He Yilun upon hearing his frustration.
“Don’t worry. Everyone has seen the hard work you’ve put in all these years. Since the Old Master gave you the position of President, our efforts haven’t been in vain. So what if he didn’t tell you the details of his business trip? We’ll take it slow. One day, everything we desire will come true.”
He Yilun remained silent, his eyes downcast. When he was seven, his mother married Ou Fucheng, the current Chairman of the Ou Group. His life had transformed overnight—from a dirty little boy who loved to fight to a restrained young man, and from poverty to immense wealth. He had worked tirelessly because he felt these things never truly belonged to him. He was unwilling to accept that; he wanted to work until they were undeniably his.
…
The morning sun always belongs to the diligent. When the first beam of light filtered through the window, Yu Zining was already at his desk, revising his compositions.
This morning, Lu Yeyan didn’t leave as early as usual. He accompanied Yu Zining for breakfast before heading to the office. Before leaving, he told Yu Zining, “If you want to go out for some fresh air, you can do so anytime. But remember, you must take bodyguards with you to ensure your safety.”
Yu Zining was overjoyed to hear this. It proved that Lu Yeyan finally trusted him completely and was no longer keeping him prisoner. Did it also mean that he held a small place in Lu Yeyan’s heart? At the thought, a gratified smile touched his lips.
Ding… Yu Zining’s phone buzzed. It was a WeChat message from Li Yiyang. Without even looking, he knew it would be either nonsense or questions about the music. Sure enough:
Li Yiyang: Lemon-laoshi, have the revisions we discussed been finished?
Lemon Who Loves Fish: Almost.
Li Yiyang smirked and typed back: Then… when are you coming to R Company? You need to be there for the live recording to make adjustments on the spot.
Yu Zining frowned. Since I’m allowed out now, and I’ve already established a confidential identity with the company, I should be fine if I disguise myself heavily.
Lemon Who Loves Fish: Okay!
“Yes!” Li Yiyang jumped out of his chair in excitement. In the dressing room, the other actors stared at him in confusion. Realizing he had overreacted, he gave an embarrassed laugh.
…
Ou Group…
He Yilun’s secretary placed a tablet in front of him. On the screen were news photos of Yu Zining and Lu Yeyan at the gala.
“President, YIY held a cocktail party last night. The purpose seems to have been to hire a designer returned from abroad named Li Ruixi.”
He Yilun looked up in surprise. “Who? Li Ruixi?”
“Yes. She’s been appointed as the Chief Designer.”
Before the secretary could finish, He Yilun burst into laughter, as if he had heard the funniest joke in the world. “Li Ruixi is a great talent, but she’s no simple character. Lu Yeyan really has some nerve hiring her. If it works, he’ll be famous; if it fails, his reputation will be ruined forever.”
He Yilun looked at the three people in the news photo, a deep, meaningful smile appearing on his face.
“You can still laugh?”
The office door was suddenly pushed open. An older man walked in—wrinkles etched the passage of time on his face, and his graying temples gave him an air of age. Yet, his sharp suit and piercing, energetic eyes revealed his extraordinary capability.
He Yilun stood up abruptly, panic flaring in his eyes. “Dad, you’re back!”
This was his stepfather, Ou Fucheng, the Chairman of the Ou Group. Ou Fucheng glanced at the secretary, who immediately understood and hurried out, closing the door behind him.
He Yilun quickly poured tea for the seated Ou Fucheng. Looking at his stepfather’s displeased expression, he asked cautiously, “Dad, when did you get back?”
“This morning!”
So, Ou Fucheng had returned to the country and come straight to the office without even going home first. His bad mood made He Yilun nervous.
Ou Fucheng shot him a look of disappointment. “I heard you made a move against YIY?”
He Yilun froze. He couldn’t hide anything from the old man.
“Foolish! You think your amateur tactics can beat Lu Yeyan? Now look—not only did Lu Yeyan get the blueprints back, he also secured Li Ruixi.”
He Yilun lowered his head. After a long silence, he said, “I was reckless this time. But why do you think he hired Li Ruixi right now?”
Ou Fucheng replied dismissively, “For the design competition, obviously. Even if he got the stolen blueprints back, he can’t use the original designs anymore. He has to improve them.”
He Yilun added quickly, “Exactly. His schedule will be incredibly tight. This is good for us. Our designs are already done, and the garments are being produced. In terms of concept and material, we have a much better chance of winning.”
“You’re not wrong. I visited several countries and met with various international companies. I’ll give you some design concepts later; we must ensure our collection is flawless.”
Only when Ou Fucheng’s expression softened did He Yilun dare to breathe a sigh of relief.
“As for Li Ruixi,” Ou Fucheng continued, “I met her parents while I was away. We are old friends. I originally wanted her to assist us, but Lu Yeyan beat us to it. However, don’t worry—her parents think highly of you. Especially since Lu Yeyan’s marriage is so sudden and mysterious. Do you understand what I mean?”
He Yilun smirked. The old man had indeed been doing big things abroad. He couldn’t afford to fall behind.
In the following days, He Yilun stopped sabotaging Lu Yeyan. Both companies poured their hearts into their designs as the competition drew closer.
…
One evening, Lu Yeyan was working late again. Yu Zining watched the time tick by, starting to worry if Lu Yeyan had eaten or if he was overworking himself. He asked the kitchen to prepare dinner; he was going to YIY to see Lu Yeyan.
After another round of dressing up, he looked at himself in the mirror. He seemed to be becoming more and more accepting of his appearance. He turned and left the villa.
