My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 25
Chapter 25
Li Ruixi stretched deeply, letting out a long sigh of relief. Just then, Lu Yeyan walked in, holding a cup of coffee.
“Coffee.” He handed it to her.
“Thank you!” Li Ruixi felt a sudden warmth in her heart.
“Is this the newly revised version?” Lu Yeyan asked, looking at the design drafts on the desk.
Li Ruixi nodded. “I was just about to bring them to you when you showed up. I guess we’re on the same wavelength!”
Lu Yeyan remained silent, focusing intently on the drawings.
Li Ruixi continued, “Actually, there was no need for you to stay at the company and accompany me for several days straight. YIY has plenty of other departments that need your attention. You can leave the design department to me.”
Lu Yeyan’s gaze remained deep. He simply replied, “It’s no trouble.”
Yu Zining, who had just arrived at the door, overheard these words. His courage vanished instantly, and he quickly stepped back, hiding around the corner.
A bitter feeling flooded his heart. Had Lu Yeyan not been working on business these past few days? Had he spent all that time specifically by Li Ruixi’s side working on sketches?
The whispers from the gala rushed back to him. Had Lu Yeyan loved Li Ruixi from the very beginning? It made sense—who wouldn’t love someone so capable and beautiful? And besides… she was a “real” woman.
Li Ruixi smiled at Lu Yeyan. “Alright, I’m hungry. Go get ready; let’s go out for dinner.”
“Mm.” Lu Yeyan didn’t say much. He turned and walked out, heading toward his own office.
Only after Lu Yeyan was out of sight did Yu Zining emerge from the corner, his eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions.
“Since you’re here, why don’t you come in and sit for a while?” Li Ruixi’s voice called out from inside the office. She had known he was there all along.
Yu Zining’s brow tightened as he stepped into the design studio. Li Ruixi looked him up and down. Today, Yu Zining wore a floral maxi dress with light makeup, looking delicate and dainty. Her gaze fixed on the insulated lunch box in his hand.
“Are you here to bring food to A-Yan?”
A-Yan? Li Ruixi addressed him with such intimacy. The name felt like a needle pricking Yu Zining’s heart.
Li Ruixi reached out as if to take the lunch box, but Yu Zining turned away sharply. She smirked. “Don’t be so nervous. A-Yan won’t eat your food anyway; we’re going out to eat in a bit.”
Yu Zining couldn’t hold back anymore. He slammed the lunch box onto the table and gestured: Stop trying to sow discord. I’m not an idiot—you clearly said those things to Lu Yeyan because you knew I was here!
Li Ruixi gave a bitter laugh. “So what? I only spoke the truth. Besides, you haven’t known A-Yan for long, have you?”
Yu Zining froze. Had Lu Yeyan told her something?
“I don’t know why A-Yan married you, but remember this: I am the only one who can stand by his side as an equal.”
Yu Zining gestured frantically: Stop talking nonsense!
“Don’t get so worked up. No one is taking your title; A-Yan is the one who let you be Mrs. Lu. But you should know your place. After all, does a mute… really deserve him?”
Li Ruixi finally showed her true colors. She smiled, picked up her coat, and walked out.
Yu Zining stood rooted to the spot, tears involuntarily blurring his vision. He looked at the lunch box on the table, then suddenly grabbed it and followed.
…
Li Ruixi appeared to be in a great mood as she reached Lu Yeyan’s office. He was just walking out.
“What has you so happy?” Lu Yeyan asked, surprised.
She arched an eyebrow. “I’m just happy the work is almost done. Where are we eating?”
“The Zhilan Restaurant nearby.”
He started walking, and Li Ruixi followed close behind. Since it was late, the company was mostly empty. Yu Zining stood in the lobby, waiting for Lu Yeyan to descend. He had to confirm one last thing.
Sure enough, Lu Yeyan soon came down with a beaming Li Ruixi at his side. Li Ruixi’s eyes flashed with surprise when she saw him. She had never met a “woman” like this. After she had made things so clear, any normal woman would have left in tears—yet here he was.
Yu Zining ran over to Lu Yeyan. Lu Yeyan hadn’t expected him to be there. Yu Zining stood before him with a smile, acting as if the confrontation with Li Ruixi had never happened. This made Li Ruixi feel incredibly unsettled.
“Why are you here?” Lu Yeyan looked at Zining’s slightly flushed cheeks and then at the lunch box.
Yu Zining gestured: I brought you something to eat.
Li Ruixi couldn’t let him have the stage alone. “Since Mrs. Lu has brought you dinner, I suppose I’ll have to go eat by myself. Oh well…” She made a move as if to leave.
“Wait!”
Just as Li Ruixi expected, Lu Yeyan—a man who valued face and etiquette—wouldn’t let her leave like that.
Yu Zining’s heart felt like it had been crushed by a stone. Lu Yeyan turned to him and said, “You go home first.”
Yu Zining’s brow furrowed. He gestured: Are you sure?
Lu Yeyan didn’t answer directly. A flicker of something complex crossed his dark eyes as he called out to a nearby bodyguard, “Send the Madam home!”
Yu Zining clutched the lunch box tightly to his chest and ran toward the car. He had brought this humiliation upon himself. Between him and Li Ruixi, Lu Yeyan had chosen Li Ruixi.
Li Ruixi’s final triumphant gaze was seared into his mind. He felt ridiculous. What was I even hoping for? That Lu Yeyan loved me? Just a few days ago we were intimate, and today he’s moved on to someone else. How pathetic.
…
Lu Yeyan watched the car drive away and let out a sigh.
Li Ruixi spoke up immediately, “Did I make things difficult for you? Your wife seems unhappy.”
“It’s not your fault. I’ve spoiled him too much.”
Emboldened, Li Ruixi asked, “I’ve been wanting to ask… why did you marry her?”
Lu Yeyan didn’t speak, staring off into the distance. The reason was a secret only he knew.
Li Ruixi didn’t believe for a second that Lu Yeyan would marry without a reason. There had to be an ulterior motive, and she was certain he could never truly love that mute.
