My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 39
“Gu Jin, you can cause as much trouble as you like, but on matters of national importance and principle, there can be no compromise!” Gu Ting stood up with a sense of righteous resolve, refusing to entertain Gu Jin’s nonsense.
Gu Jin rolled her eyes. Seeing Gu Ting’s immovable stance, she suddenly swept her leg across the floor. In the next second, the two of them were lying flat on the ground side by side. Gu Ting looked as though he wanted to strangle her.
“Brother, dear brother, are national matters not settled with a single word from you? Let us leave the He family alone, shall we?” Gu Jin pleaded as she pinned down Gu Ting’s retaliating hands.
“Nonsense! You make it sound so simple. If you are so capable, why do you not stop Elder He from plotting a rebellion? Look at what the He family has been doing—does any of it seem honorable?” Gu Ting locked his arm around Gu Jin’s neck in a chokehold. He could only be thankful that they were in a secure, classified location. Had anyone witnessed this, the Imperial reputation would have been utterly ruined.
Gu Jin struggled for air while prying at Gu Ting’s arm. “Think about it, Brother. Even if Elder He wants to rebel, he is a man of over three hundred years. I believe Dean He, his wife, and even He Yu and He Yi have no desire for an uprising. If Elder He rebels, who is going to inherit his position? Certainly not them.”
“One cannot know what is in another person’s heart,” Gu Ting replied, maintaining the lock. “It is better to be cautious.”
“Then I shall simply marry He Yu. Given He Yi’s personality, I suspect Elder He would have no choice but to give up his plans. What do you think?” Gu Jin finally broke free from his grasp. She coughed and knelt on one knee, gasping for air as she looked at Gu Ting, who was still sprawled on the floor.
Gu Ting sighed and looked up at his sister. “My dear sister, if I were this merciful to every person with ill intentions, how long do you think I would keep this throne?”
“I will help you deal with the Xiao family,” Gu Jin offered.
“It is a deal.”
“Wait, Brother, at least hesitate for a moment so I do not feel like I am losing out on this bargain,” Gu Jin said, pushing him slightly. She wondered if she had made the promise too quickly.
“After careful consideration, I find your proposal acceptable,” Gu Ting said dismissively as he checked the time. “Xiao Yuqi should be making a move soon now that he is home. If you lead the troops now, you should arrive just in time.”
Gu Jin suppressed the urge to strike him. She stood up and asked, “Could you not have just detained them? What would you have done if I had not woken up?”
“Then I would have handled it myself. If I do not let them run and indulge in their schemes, how can I catch them red-handed with the evidence? Now go. I need to get some more sleep.”
Gu Ting brushed the dust off his clothes, stretched, and strolled away to bed under Gu Jin’s murderous glare.
Gu Jin snorted, gathered her long hair, and opened her terminal. “Move out!”
Thirty seconds later, Gu Jin effectively blocked the members of the Xiao family at their front gates as they were preparing to leave.
“Oh, what a coincidence. The weather is lovely today. Are you all planning a group spring outing?” Gu Jin asked, crossing her arms casually. She watched the tense group as she projected a massive screen in front of them. “The Xiao family is suspected of framing the He family for the attempted assassination of this General. The evidence is conclusive. I am afraid your outing will have to wait. Please come with me.”
“Gu Jin! The Royal Family has gone too far!” Elder Xiao leaned on his cane as he stepped from behind the gates, trembling with rage. “My family has always served the nation and the people of Weize with total dedication. Now you fabricate a foul name to slander us! You are bullies!”
“Serving the people? We shall see how much you have served them once the public trial begins. Take them away!” Gu Jin raised her hand, and the Royal Guard immediately surrounded the Xiao estate with disciplined precision.
As tensions reached a breaking point, the crying of a child broke the silence. Gu Jin looked up to see Tao Ran emerging from the doorway holding Xiao Xiaoyu. The child was wailing in his mother’s arms.
“Make that brat be quiet, or I will knock him unconscious myself,” Gu Jin said coldly before Tao Ran could speak. She had a low tolerance for crying children and often felt the urge to strike them. The threat was effective; Xiao Xiaoyu stopped crying immediately.
Tao Ran set her son down and looked at Gu Jin with tears in her eyes. “Sister Gu Jin, what is this? What is happening?”
“Oh, Tao Ran. It has been a long time,” Gu Jin replied, feeling completely unmoved by her former “White Moonlight.” She now suspected that her past pursuit of Tao Ran had merely been an attempt to annoy He Yu, as she found nothing appealing about the woman now.
She ignored Tao Ran and turned to her guards. “Why have you not moved? Leave the Omegas and the children. Take everyone else. Leave one squad here to maintain a lockdown. No one enters or leaves.”
Tao Ran was caught off guard by the drastic change in Gu Jin’s attitude. “Sister Gu Jin, surely there is some mistake?”
“Would I make a mistake regarding an assassination attempt on my own life?” Gu Jin did not bother responding further. She felt relieved as the guards began to secure the Xiao family members. The task seemed easier than she had anticipated.
However, just as she relaxed, the gates of the Xiao estate shifted. A volley of arrows flew toward the guards, forcing them to release their captives.
Gu Jin cursed her own luck. Private soldiers suddenly appeared, and she realized the Xiao estate had been transformed into a fortress. It was clear the Xiao family intended to fight to the bitter end.
The Xiao father and son realized that this was a trap. The Royal Family had long suspected them and had finally orchestrated this incident to force their hand. Seeing that the Emperor intended to destroy them, they decided to stop pretending and openly defy the throne. They had prepared for this eventuality. Although Gu Jin being uninjured was a minor variable, they believed it would not significantly change the outcome.
“Since the Royal Family cannot tolerate us, we must find our own way to survive!” Elder Xiao declared as he stood before his private army.
Gu Jin looked at an arrow she had caught and sneered. The Xiao family had clearly been planning this for a long time. In the capital, advanced buildings could change according to the owner’s will, but the Royal Family usually maintained override codes to prevent criminal activity. However, Gu Jin noticed that the Xiao estate had disappeared from the official maps. They had tampered with the system; the building now obeyed only the Xiao family, and the Royal codes were useless.
Fortunately, the override only affected their estate. Gu Jin looked at the clear boundary between the street and the Xiao property. The situation was a stalemate. The Xiao forces could not defeat Gu Jin and the Royal Guard in the open, but the guards could not enter the estate without being at a total disadvantage.
Elder Xiao and Xiao Yuqi stood mockingly at the entrance. “What can you do to us, Gu Jin? When the government oppresses the people, the people must rebel. Once my main army arrives, you and your guards will be finished!”
“How naive,” Gu Jin laughed. She crushed the arrow between two fingers and deactivated her screen. She extended her arms as her clothing made a distinct mechanical clicking sound. Everyone’s nerves tightened.
A metallic thud echoed as her military uniform replaced her casual attire. This time, she wore a pair of white gloves. She elegantly adjusted the gloves and walked toward the boundary of the estate. Under the worried and terrified gazes of the onlookers, she stopped at the line, wound up her fist, and struck the wall of the Xiao estate with a full-force punch!
The sound of the impact was bone-chilling. The crowd watched in shock as a series of cracks appeared on the wall from her bare fist. The wall was made of the newest interstellar material, renowned for its hardness. It was supposed to withstand a month of pounding from a medium-sized mecha without a single crack. Yet, Gu Jin had cracked it with a single punch while wearing only a micro-mecha suit.
The power of a Super S-rank constitution was truly terrifying.
The force of the blow caused the entire street to tremble. Back at the He residence, He Yu and He Yi felt the shockwave and heard the massive impact. He Yu ran out of her room and met an excited He Yi. “What is happening?”
“Sister! I know that sound! Someone is fighting in the capital using high-grade mecha gear!” He Yi exclaimed. He was a master of anything related to the battlefield.
He Yu was stunned. Who would be bold enough to start a mecha fight in the capital?
Just then, the guards at their house grew excited. They showed the live feed on a screen. “It is not a fight. General Gu is apprehending traitors!”
On the screen, Gu Jin stood majestically in her uniform before a fortified mansion. She looked at the occupants with indifference as she delivered another punch to the wall.
The sound echoed again. He Yu steadied herself as she recognized the people on the screen. “The Xiao estate?”
“Yes,” a soldier replied. “News just came in that Prime Minister He was framed. It was the Xiao family who slandered him, and they are behind the assassination attempt on General Gu. General Gu went to arrest them, but they tampered with the building’s controls. Their treasonous intentions are now obvious to everyone.”
The soldier looked at the terrified faces of the Xiao family and felt a new level of respect for Gu Jin. “Do not worry, Miss He. It seems we will be able to return home soon. Elder He is innocent.”
While He Yi chatted happily with the soldiers, He Yu felt a sense of unease. She knew her grandfather’s “innocence” was not as certain as the public believed.
