My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 38
He Yu stared blankly at Gu Jin, temporarily at a loss for words.
After waiting a long time without receiving an answer, Gu Jin steadied her head, closed her eyes, and swayed unsteadily. He Yu quickly reached out to support her, but Gu Jin caught her wrist instead.
“Tell me first. Who are you going to marry?” Gu Jin struggled even to keep her eyes open, yet she insisted on an answer. Heaven knew how much willpower she had used to break free from the sedative Gu Ting had surreptitiously administered. To wake up and immediately hear those words had nearly infuriated her to the point of death.
“That is right. Which of the two paths do you choose?” Gu Ting said from the side, clearly enjoying the chaos. “Is it death, or is it marrying Wen Zhixin?”
“Shut up, Gu Ting! I have not settled the score with you for drugging me yet!” The moment Gu Jin opened her eyes, several arrows materialized out of thin air in the room, darting straight toward Gu Ting. The speed was enough to make everyone’s heart skip a beat.
Gu Ting merely gave a helpless wave of his hand, and the arrows vanished. “Fine, I will shut up. You really are losing your temper.”
Gu Jin turned her gaze back to He Yu. “You will not die. Just tell me if you are willing to marry… Wen Zhixin. No matter what you choose, I will ensure you are safe.”
“You…” Gu Ting started to say something, but seeing Gu Jin’s state, he fell silent.
He Yu looked at the hope in Gu Jin’s eyes. She pursed her lips slightly and shook her head.
Gu Jin’s expression immediately relaxed. Like the sun breaking through the clouds, she let out a bright smile. “I knew it. How could you possibly be willing to marry that pedantic bookworm?”
The man known as the number one gentleman of the Weize Empire had become a pedantic bookworm in Gu Jin’s eyes. Gu Ting found the sight unbearable. He had originally planned to have He Yu reject Wen Zhixin first. Based on his past observations, He Yu was not entirely without feelings for Gu Jin. By giving a little push from the side, he would have been able to make He Yu sincerely willing to marry Gu Jin.
Unfortunately, despite all his calculations, he had not expected Gu Jin to wake up early and ruin the plan. It was a complete failure; all his efforts were wasted. Now he could only hope Gu Jin would not interfere with other matters.
Watching Gu Jin, who was easily comforted just because He Yu rejected Wen Zhixin, Gu Ting took a deep breath. “Well… she said she would not marry Wen Zhixin, but she did not say she would marry you either. Why are you so happy?”
“Hmph!” Gu Jin leaned on He Yu’s shoulder and looked at Gu Ting with disdain. “She already agreed to marry me long ago. Does she need to say it again? Right?”
“Wait, when?” He Yu asked with a look of confusion, questioning Gu Jin.
Gu Ting watched the scene like a spectator at a play. Gu Jin gave him a glare and then turned to He Yu. “Just yesterday. You do not need to hide it from me anymore; I know everything. I heard what your butler said to your grandfather—that you have already decided you will marry no one but me. I know you are shy, so I will not say more on that. Also, did we not discuss it yesterday? You will decide the wedding arrangements. How could you forget today?”
“Wait, yesterday?” A realization flashed in He Yu’s mind.
“The child…”
“Everything will be according to your wishes.”
“Are you sure? Actually, if you have any good suggestions for a compromise, I think they could be considered.”
“I certainly have no objections. This kind of thing is supposed to be decided by the Omega. However, if you need me for anything, just say the word. It is my duty.”
…
“Wait! Yesterday, we were discussing that I would have custody of the child! When did that become a wedding?”
He Yu finally understood. No wonder Gu Jin had been so easy to talk to yesterday. It turned out they were not even talking about the same thing!
“You get custody of the child?” Gu Jin blinked. A child was mentioned yesterday, but was that not because they were getting married? How did it become… a custody issue?
Gu Ting thought to himself, I knew it.
Both of them fell into a sudden, awkward silence.
He Yu broke the silence first, taking half a step back to avoid Gu Jin’s arm. “First of all, let me clarify. There was a misunderstanding between the old butler and my grandfather. Because I did not want to discuss marriage recently and my grandfather was quite persistent, I went along with it and used you as a shield.”
“Then why me?” Gu Jin also took half a step back, following up with a question.
“Because I thought we were the most impossible pair…” He Yu spoke the truth. Although there had been all sorts of messy misunderstandings, that was precisely the reason she had not immediately explained things to her family.
Gu Jin sat down cross-legged on the floor and looked at He Yu with a bitter smile. She seemed to want to say something but stopped. She rested her cheeks in her hands, her expression complex and tinged with irony. She nodded. “Fine. I… have a vivid imagination.”
Looking at Gu Jin in this state, He Yu also felt uncomfortable. She did not know how things had turned out this way. Too many things had happened today, leaving her brain unable to process it all.
“Well, He Yu, you should head back first. We will discuss this later.” Gu Ting did not want to provoke Gu Jin any further and waved He Yu away.
Xiao Ze looked at the siblings and then led He Yu out. He Yu took one last look at Gu Jin but said nothing as she followed Xiao Ze.
Once outside the gate, Xiao Ze stopped and looked at He Yu, who was glancing back at the automatically closing doors.
“Do you regret it?” Xiao Ze asked. He understood all the twists and turns of the situation.
Not expecting Xiao Ze to initiate a conversation, He Yu snapped back to her senses. She looked at the Empress standing before her, who was upright and elegant in every gesture. This was one of her few interactions with Xiao Ze, as male and female Omegas generally avoided unnecessary contact.
“No,” He Yu replied, not wishing to say more.
“Gu Ting told me that Gu Jin has actually liked you all along, but she does not even know it herself and stubbornly refuses to admit it.” Xiao Ze saw that his words had successfully made He Yu stay. “Today, Gu Ting set a trap and gave Gu Jin a sedative because he wanted to test your attitude and keep Gu Jin from being troubled by the He family’s affairs. That dose was enough to make ten S-rank Alphas sleep for three days, but because she was worried about the He family, she forced herself to wake up within three hours. That is why you saw what you just did.”
He Yu remained silent. She had seen that Gu Jin was not in a good state, but she had not expected that to be the reason.
“You already know enough about the He family’s situation. I believe you have your own judgment.” Seeing He Yu’s silence, Xiao Ze said no more and let her go back to think for herself.
“Also, in the Weize Empire, the right to marital freedom for an Omega is in their own hands. No one can force you. Furthermore, under the Interstellar Treaty, Omegas have the right to immunity from the death penalty. I truly did not expect you to be so ignorant of the law.”
Finally, Xiao Ze felt a bit helpless. A scheme full of loopholes had managed to fool two of the most outstanding members of the Empire’s younger generation. He wondered if he should credit Gu Ting for being such a good actor.
He Yu watched Xiao Ze’s departing back and took a deep breath. In her heart, she was unwilling to accept the fact that she was an Omega. Because of this, she had never truly tried to understand the world of Omegas; she had even deliberately avoided it. She never expected it would lead to such a massive misunderstanding.
By the time He Yu returned to the He residence, she saw He Yi playing a game of left-hand versus right-hand. Since he could not even go to the training grounds, he looked like he was dying of boredom.
Seeing He Yu return, He Yi’s eyes lit up. He let go of his tangled arms and ran toward her. “Sister, how was it? Did Xiao Ze wrongly accuse Grandfather?”
Having been bombarded with news and lacking time for independent thought, He Yu only now remembered why she had gone to the Palace in the first place.
Come to think of it, although Xiao Yuqi had listed so many of her grandfather’s crimes, the assassination of Gu Jin was not among them.
“Sister, say something. What happened? Your expression is making me nervous.” He Yi, who was previously confident, now looked hesitant and anxious.
“Let us wait for the results from above. For now, let me be alone. I am on the verge of exploding. If you do not want to be caught in the blast, stay away.”
Her mind was a mess. He Yu pushed He Yi away and went to her room. She desperately needed a quiet space to straighten out every single event.
While He Yu was at home clearing her head, Gu Jin was rolling around on the floor of the Palace. Beside her stood the Emperor, who appeared to have no dignity left.
“Gu Jin, can you show some spine? Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is? Get up!” Gu Ting kicked the “playing dead” Gu Jin. He was mentally exhausted. He would rather handle a hundred national affairs than look at Gu Jin for one minute.
At this moment, he suddenly missed the time when Gu Jin was lying in the recuperation pod. That green-tinted Gu Jin had been so lovely when she was motionless.
Gu Jin flipped over with the force of his kick and looked at him with dead eyes. “Brother, I have been rejected. You are still kicking me? Do you have any compassion?”
“Have you even been in a relationship? How can you be rejected?” The cold-blooded Gu Ting showed no sympathy, his words cutting straight to the point.
“That hurts,” Gu Jin muttered. She sprawled out on the floor, her eyes losing focus.
Gu Ting squatted down, tilted his head to look at her, and poked her head. “Are you even a member of the Gu family? If you like her, have you ever pursued her? Have you sent her gifts, taken her to dinner, or created a romantic scene? Not to boast, but when I pursued my little Omega, I set off enough fireworks to light up the whole Capital Planet. Can you not learn from your brother?”
Gu Jin rolled her eyes and looked at him with disdain. “That little Omega? Do you even remember their name?”
“I…” Gu Ting choked on his words. He rolled his eyes and pointed at her. “That is not important! The point is that I succeeded, which proves my methods work. Now He Yu is carrying your child; your starting point is much higher than mine was. Instead of playing dead here, why not think about what gift to send her first?”
Gu Ting, who was squatting and giving advice, did not know the massive price he would pay in the future for those words, nor how much he would want to travel back in time to kick his current self to death.
Seeming moved by his words, Gu Jin lifted her head, only to lay it back down again. Gu Ting did not understand. “What now?”
“What is the point of pursuing her? My brother is currently thinking about how to destroy her entire family. How can I pursue her?” Gu Jin continued to play dead.
Gu Ting was silent. Waiting for your brother here, are you? You truly are my biological sister.
