My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 27
Under the worried gaze of He Yi, He Yu returned to her room. No longer able to maintain her calm exterior, she swept everything off her desk in a single motion.
Curse it all! How did things develop to this point?
He Yu had once believed that even if she did not evolve into an Alpha, she would at least become a Beta. She planned to serve her country, pilot mechas, and shine on the battlefield. She imagined marrying someone as obedient, cute, and gentle as Tao Ran.
When she eventually differentiated into an Omega, she felt her life was over. However, she stood back up and used her abilities to prove that an Omega was not inferior to anyone else.
Her life was gradually getting back on track. She never imagined that a single trip back to the Capital Star would cause her life to spiral out of control. The culprit behind everything was Gu Jin.
He Yu had planned to spend her life alone, dedicated to scientific research. She had even stockpiled enough suppressants to last a lifetime. Yet, because of Gu Jin, everything had changed. She was unexpectedly pregnant, and her suppressants had failed.
Her frustration grew twofold. He Yu realized she was currently unable to think calmly about a solution. Although the doctors said they were researching an antidote, everyone knew that whenever a member of the Royal Family was poisoned, the research took forever. Antidotes were often developed only after the victim had already died. It was useless.
Whenever it came to matters involving Gu Jin, the patience and calm He Yu had cultivated over the years vanished. Gu Jin was her natural nemesis.
After much consideration, He Yu decided that waiting was not an option. Since Gu Jin was currently in a special situation and could not leave the palace, He Yu would have to go to her. This matter involved both of them, and it could not be resolved without a discussion.
The problem was that Gu Jin was in the Imperial Palace. How could she get inside?
He Yu looked at the conceptual model of a new mecha on her bookshelf and had an idea. Previously, due to an error at Lota Star, the new mecha research had been suspended. Now that the truth had been cleared, it was time to restart the project.
If not for this sudden chemical complication, He Yu would have applied to return to Lota Star and wait until the child was born.
Acting immediately, He Yu gathered the data on the new mecha. She intended to use the project as an excuse to visit the palace. While she could not restart the project on her own authority, it served as a perfect reason to request a meeting.
After packing, she looked at the silver ring on her table. It was Gu Jin’s flight device. She placed it into her quantum ring, intending to return it.
Meanwhile, Gu Jin was trapped without her terminal. She could not go out and was limited to a military terminal in her mind. For security reasons, it used a special network that could not even access the Star Net.
Gu Jin had completely rearranged her room. She moved the ceiling to the floor while the light sources remained active. The blue and white floor, which looked like an oil painting, was now on the ceiling. She had a full set of tables and chairs. One of her feet was hooked into a hammock suspended from the ceiling to the floor. She lay back on a curved table with her other leg dangling in the air.
Gu Ting returned from the Chess Academy after listening to a spy’s report. He was met with this chaotic sight. He looked up at Gu Jin above him and said, “Try to be normal. Those two old men are no longer meddling in your business. Also, I have added more pressure to the Xiao family. They will likely lose their composure within two days. Pull yourself together. Do you hear me?”
“I hear nothing. I am practically becoming a salted fish,” Gu Jin replied as she floated down from the ceiling. She looked at Gu Ting upside down and asked, “Can I borrow your game account?”
“It has been less than half a day. I wonder how you survived during ambush missions,” Gu Ting remarked. Despite his complaining, he did not want her to die of boredom. He gave her a gaming pod and logged into his account. “Did you hear what I said earlier?”
“I heard you. Thank you, brother. Goodbye.” Gu Jin nimbly slid into the gaming pod. She looked at Gu Ting’s rank and curled her lips in disdain, though she “reluctantly” started a game.
Gu Ting rolled his eyes and left her to it.
When He Yu arrived at the Imperial Palace, she greeted the guards. After receiving permission from Gu Ting, she followed a guard to his office.
Gu Ting watched He Yu on his screen with a complicated expression. He had no complaints about He Yu as a person. She was capable, high-achieving, perfect in appearance, and her status matched Gu Jin’s. The only problem was that she belonged to the He family. It was a headache.
A guard knocked on the door. Gu Ting closed the screen and the door opened automatically. He Yu entered behind the guard and said, “Your Majesty.”
Gu Ting nodded and gestured. The guards saluted and left, leaving the two of them alone.
“Your Majesty, I am here to request a status update. Since the truth of the Lota Star defense battle has been revealed, can the research on the new mecha be resumed?” He Yu stood in the center of the room. She maintained her respect for this wise Emperor.
However, as she looked at his blue-white hair and silver-grey eyes, which were characteristic of the Royal Family, she worried about her child. Even if she said nothing, the Royal genetics were so strong that once the child was born, the features would make the parentage obvious.
Unaware of He Yu’s inner thoughts, Gu Ting nodded. “The production and research can resume, but not immediately. The previous incident caused too much public outcry. We need time for the public’s opposition to subside.”
“As you wish, Your Majesty. I will follow your arrangements,” He Yu replied, bowing with her right hand on her left shoulder. “However, I have one more request. I would like to see Gu Jin.”
He Yu felt nervous as she stood up. She did not know if Gu Ting was aware that Gu Jin had visited her. Logically, she was supposed to be ignorant of Gu Jin’s current “critical” condition. Was it inappropriate to ask to see someone who was purportedly dying?
Gu Ting placed his hands together on the desk. “May I ask why you want to see her? You should know that Gu Jin’s current situation is not good. It is dangerous. She went missing for a while, and after I brought her back, her condition worsened. She just finished emergency treatment and is still unconscious.”
Gu Ting lied without blinking. He knew perfectly well that Gu Jin had gone to see He Yu. He likely even knew about Gu Jin’s physical state, but he feigned ignorance and exaggerated the severity.
As expected, He Yu’s heart began to race. Gu Jin had indeed remained in her wheelchair that morning and looked very pale. Although Gu Jin claimed she was fine, He Yu now suspected she had been lying.
He Yu felt a wave of guilt. She had intentionally retaliated by staying on the mecha for a long time. This guilt began to outweigh her previous anger.
“Is it truly that serious?” He Yu looked at Gu Ting. She could not hide her emotions; worry and guilt were written all over her face.
Gu Ting was surprised. He had expected He Yu to wish for Gu Jin’s demise, but her reaction was the opposite.
He maintained his worried facade. “Gu Jin’s old injuries were already severe. This time she was ambushed again. The new injuries aggravated the old ones, and she almost died. When the doctors checked her, they discovered a toxin in her system. It has made everything much worse.”
“Well, I will say no more. You are her classmate and you grew up together. It is natural for you to visit. However, her condition is truly poor,” Gu Ting said. He pulled up a feed of Gu Jin’s room. On the screen, Gu Jin appeared pale with her eyes closed and her brow furrowed. She was lying on a platform and seemed restless even in sleep.
Gu Ting closed the screen after a few moments as if he could not bear to look. “It pains me to see her like this. The doctor said she needs rest and cannot be disturbed. I think you should return home for now. Perhaps when she is better… though I do not know if she will recover.”
Gu Ting was impressed by his own acting. He felt he deserved an award.
He Yu stepped forward, trying to steady her emotions. “Your Majesty, this is a flight device Gu Jin lent to me. Please return it to her. Additionally, I know you are aware that Gu Jin and I were affected by the same chemical agent. If possible, may I stay here to take care of her?”
Gu Ting looked at the familiar silver ring. That brat Gu Jin had taken his flight device and lent it to someone else. She was certainly bold.
However, he did not take it. “You may not know this, but Gu Jin never lends things to others. Usually, if she gives something to someone, she intends for them to keep it. It seems she wanted to give this to you. Do not refuse it. Please keep it.”
Gu Ting’s mind was working quickly. If he could not have his device back, he would ensure Gu Jin did not have it either. Besides, giving it to He Yu was not like giving it to a stranger.
He Yu was stunned. “I cannot do that. It is too valuable. Furthermore, this device has Royal authorization. I truly cannot accept it.”
“Take it. We are all family. Do not be polite,” Gu Ting said, being very generous with Gu Jin’s possessions. “This is a gesture from Gu Jin. She would be sad if you returned it.”
Since Gu Ting insisted, He Yu put the ring away. “In that case, Your Majesty, may I stay to care for her?”
“No!” Gu Ting blurted out. If she stayed, his lies would be exposed immediately. “Gu Jin needs quiet. She is currently in a treatment pod. Do not worry. I will notify you the moment she wakes up.”
He Yu could not argue further. She nodded and said, “Then I shall take my leave.” She bowed and exited the palace.
After she left, Gu Ting sat at his desk in thought. He Yu’s attitude was the complete opposite of what he had expected. She did not seem to despise Gu Jin at all. There was still hope for the situation.
Meanwhile, the “unconscious” Gu Jin was currently raging in her holographic game. She was tempted to kill her teammates. How could anyone be so stupid?
