My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 26
The two doctors pushed each other back and forth, both reluctant to step forward. They looked at Gu Jin and Gu Ting with troubled expressions. Finally, the pharmacist took a step toward them. “It is like this. We previously performed a physical examination on Major General Gu Jin and found no issues. Therefore, this time, we focused on her blood and pheromones. We discovered that Major General Gu Jin had been injected with a specific drug.”
“Cut the nonsense and get to the point,” Gu Ting said impatiently. They already knew there was a drug involved; the key was identifying what it was.
“Alright. To explain it simply, the drug actually comes in two parts, injected into an Alpha and an Omega respectively. Both individuals will enter their heat cycle simultaneously. Then, they will perform an Alpha and Omega union. The most perverse aspect of this drug is that once the union occurs, the two individuals are completely bound to one another. From then on, their heat cycles can only be relieved by the other person’s pheromones, and they cannot come into contact with the pheromones of any other person of the opposite sex.”
Gu Jin was stunned.
Gu Ting was equally shocked.
“Actually, this drug was invented by a paranoid pharmacist. To ensure absolute loyalty between himself and his wife, he specially created this formula. Unfortunately, his wife eventually died at the scene of an alleged infidelity, and he took his own life as well. However, the formula survived,” the doctor added from the side.
Gu Ting blinked at Gu Jin. “Died at the scene of an infidelity?”
“Yes. This drug is very overbearing. Not only is it uncomfortable to come into contact with another person’s pheromones, but if one were to actually have a relationship with someone else, they would die instantly on the spot. The drug’s effect is extremely rapid.” The pharmacist nodded and looked at Gu Jin with a worried expression. “Major General Gu Jin, do you know who the Omega you were with that night is?”
It was no wonder the pharmacist asked. The royal Gu family was famous for their philandering history. The old Emperor had many wives and concubines, and the old Marshal had thousands of lovers. Before the current Emperor married, his list of former partners spanned the globe since his middle school days. He only settled down and became faithful after he took the throne and married the Empress.
As for Major General Gu Jin, although she was famous and accomplished, she had been sent to Planet Rota before she even reached adulthood. Information about her life was scarce in the Capital, but given her family history, it was unlikely she was innocent. Besides, if she were truly innocent, she would not have attracted such a troublesome romantic debt.
Gu Ting pressed his dizzy head and sat back in his chair. He waved his hand feebly at Gu Jin. “Please, just go to the royal mausoleum and dig a hole to bury yourself. I do not even want to help you fill in the soil.”
Gu Jin was silent.
“Brother, we cannot give up on treatment,” Gu Jin said, leaning toward him. Seeing Gu Ting act as if the sky were falling, she did not feel particularly bothered. To her, this situation was not unacceptable.
“Currently, the only way to treat this drug is for both parties to undergo surgery to remove their glands. Since the drug is injected directly into the gland, there is no other way,” the doctor said as he packed up the equipment, offering the only path forward.
Gu Ting seemed to come back to life. He sat up and looked at Gu Jin. “That is a good idea. Will you consider it?”
“Consider your head!” Gu Jin kicked Gu Ting and rolled her eyes. She turned her wheelchair half a circle to face the doctor and the pharmacist. “When He Yu goes to the hospital for her check-up, relay these same results to her. Remember, keep this a secret from everyone except He Yu. Do you understand?”
“We understand.”
Gu Jin waved her hand for them to leave. She lounged in her wheelchair, steering it back and forth and occasionally wandering over to kick Gu Ting or pull his hair, nearly driving the grieving Gu Ting to madness.
“Enough, already. Go dig your hole before it is too late.” For the third time, Gu Ting kicked Gu Jin’s foot away and waved her off with disdain. He wondered why he had bothered bringing her back from Planet Rota in the first place. Was his life not difficult enough?
“What is there to worry about? I am not even worried. At worst, I will just marry He Yu.” Gu Jin truly could not understand Gu Ting’s look, which suggested he was preparing for her funeral. Was this really so hard to solve?
“Yes, you would love that, would you not?” Gu Ting had seen through her intentions long ago. He rubbed his temples until they were red. “No, I must discuss this with your eldest uncle and my second uncle. Otherwise, they will definitely come looking for trouble with me later.”
Having been cursed with the mantra of “taking care of your younger sister” since childhood, Gu Ting had much hidden suffering. Over time, he had learned that the only way to avoid mistakes was to ask for instructions beforehand.
As Gu Ting walked out in a daze of anger, Gu Jin crossed her arms on the wheelchair rests and swung her feet leisurely. She snapped her fingers and even felt like playing some background music.
On the other side, the news hit He Yu like a bolt of lightning. She once thought there was nothing worse than being pregnant with her rival’s child. Today, reality taught her that there was no bottom to how bad things could get.
“So you mean I am bound to that person for the rest of my life?” He Yu took a deep breath and mentally swatted away the tiny image of Gu Jin in her mind.
“Yes. Do you… know who that person is?” If Gu Jin had been there, she would have recognized that the doctor sitting across from He Yu was the same one who had just left the palace. Thanks to the heavy traffic on the Capital Planet, He Yu had been stuck on the road long enough for the doctor to arrive first.
He Yu nodded, but her expression did not improve. The doctor looked at her with sympathy and sighed. “Try to look on the bright side. We are working as fast as we can to develop an antidote. There might still be a chance.”
“The other party? You know who it is?” Startled, He Yu looked at the doctor.
“Yes. To be honest, I just came back from seeing the other person. They asked me to keep it a secret. I hope you can understand, Miss He; it is better to keep this matter low-profile. It is for your own good.” Seeing He Yu’s distress and looking at her test results, the doctor could not help but say a few more words. Although he knew she was the granddaughter of the Prime Minister, her status was still slightly lower than that of the royal family. He feared she would be the one to suffer.
“Yes, thank you.” Supporting herself on the chair, He Yu stood up. She declined the doctor’s offer to help and walked out on her own. As soon as she exited the room, He Yi hurried over. “How was it? Are you okay? Why were you in there for so long? They would not let me in.”
He Yu patted He Yi’s hand. “I am fine. I am just a little tired. Let us go home.”
The doctor stood at the door and watched them leave with an admiring gaze. He turned back, closed the door, and immediately began sharing this explosive news with his friend, the pharmacist: Major General Gu Jin was about to be a father.
Meanwhile, in the palace, Gu Ting arrived at the Chess Academy with a heavy heart. Looking at the two old men playing chess without a care in the world, he sighed deeply and stepped inside.
“You are here? You never visit unless you need something. What is it?” The Emperor did not look up. Taking advantage of the Old Marshal’s momentary distraction, he quickly swapped two adjacent chess pieces and continued to study the board as if nothing had happened.
Gu Ting saw everything.
“Father, Second Uncle, I am here to tell you two pieces of news.” Without exposing his father’s trickery, Gu Ting got straight to the point.
“Let us hear the good news first,” the Old Marshal replied, placing a piece.
“The good news is that you two are about to have a grandson or granddaughter.” Gu Ting hid the mountain-sized truth and offered only the tiny green tree on top.
The Emperor dropped his chess piece. Both old men turned their heads simultaneously to look at Gu Ting. “Is Xiao Ze pregnant?”
Gu Ting was confused. “What does this have to do with Xiao Ze? No, it is not my child. It is Gu Jin’s.”
After hearing the explanation, the two old men became even more agitated. The Old Marshal nearly flipped the table, and if the Emperor had not held him back, he would have stormed out.
“Do not stop me! Gu Jin is a beast! That is her sister-in-law!” The Old Marshal shouted in grief, picking up the table as if to go and find Gu Jin.
Gu Ting was utterly bewildered. “Wait, what are you talking about?”
“It is not Gu Jin and Xiao Ze! It is Gu Jin and He Yu! It has nothing to do with me or Xiao Ze!” Standing in front of the two old men, Gu Ting felt physically and mentally exhausted. Why was it so difficult to communicate with them?
“Oh, then I am relieved. You boy, why do you talk in such a confusing way?” The Old Marshal put down the antique stone table and smoothed his breath while the Emperor rubbed his back.
Gu Ting, once again the innocent scapegoat, took a heavy breath. Yes, it was his fault again.
“So… how do you two want to solve this?” Keeping the poisoning a secret for now, Gu Ting did not want to spend the rest of the day explaining it.
The Old Marshal sat back down and looked at the Emperor. “I am one step ahead of you. What use is it for you to have a daughter-in-law first? My grandchildren are already on the way.”
“Do you really plan to let Gu Jin marry the He family’s granddaughter?” The Emperor looked at Gu Ting with disdain while accepting a chess piece that floated over to him.
“I have no objection, but I fear some people will disagree. We need to plan this carefully.” The Old Marshal reset the board and started a new game.
The Emperor nodded and placed a piece. “Gu Ting, I will leave this matter to you. Your uncle and I are very busy. Come back and tell us when there is a result.”
Somehow back at square one, Gu Ting looked at the two old men. Busy? They were playing a simple game of Five-in-a-Row. They were faking it perfectly.
Finding the hot potato back in his own hands, Gu Ting sighed and left.
As soon as Gu Ting was gone, the Old Marshal threw his chess piece aside, and his calm facade shattered. “Brother, do you think our Gu family can really marry into the He family? One is the Royal Family and the other is the Cabinet. The Royalists and the Cabinet Party have always been like fire and water. If Gu Jin truly marries the He family granddaughter, will everything not fall into chaos?”
“There is no other way. Our Gu family has few descendants. Plenty of wives, but only one child. Now that we finally have another on the way, we must protect it.” The Emperor had no heart left for chess and sighed.
The Old Marshal looked troubled. “But we just tricked Old Man He last time. Will the He family hold a grudge?”
“That is certain. But we will leave that to the younger generation. We are old now. Come, I found a game of Chinese Checkers in Gu Ting’s old toy box. Let us give it a try.” The Emperor, who was technically still in his prime by galactic standards, spoke shamelessly as he cleared the board, perfectly content with setting his son up for more trouble.
