My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 25
Seeing Gu Jin lower her head in silence, Gu Ting pinched the bridge of his nose. “Since she did not tell you today, it means she does not want you to know. If that is the case, she likely does not want to keep the child. Why should you force the issue?”
“That is not right.” Gu Jin looked up, staring at Gu Ting with a touch of stubbornness. “He Yu is not that kind of person. It is possible she simply does not like me.”
Gu Ting was speechless. Is there a difference? Who would want to bear the child of someone they do not like? He felt as though his thought process and Gu Jin’s were on entirely different dimensions.
Gripping her wheelchair, Gu Jin remained silent for three seconds before speaking. “I need to talk to He Yu.”
Gu Ting grabbed the wheelchair before she could leave. He felt he could not allow Gu Jin to continue acting so recklessly. “My silly sister, listen to me first. You have only two options. One is to pretend you do not know, and the He family will handle this accident quietly. The other is to go and confess now. After the He family beats you half to death, they will still get rid of the child. The result is the same, but you will pay a much higher price in the latter scenario.”
“This is my responsibility, and I should be accountable for it. The Gu family did not raise me to be a coward.” Gu Jin’s resolve remained as firm as ever. She knew this would be difficult to resolve, but she refused to use that as an excuse to hide.
“Yes, no one called you a coward.” Gu Ting tried to summon the greatest amount of patience he had ever possessed to deal with his stubborn sister. “How about this? We will conduct a medical examination first. Once we have the results, we will consider the matter further. I will help you find a way then.”
Gu Jin agreed that there was no need to rush this very second. She tried to stabilize her emotions and turned back to Gu Ting. “Did you tell the hospital to keep this confidential? Even though I am out now, I have not exposed any information, and He Yu will not leak anything either. It should not affect the plan, so do not let the problem start on your end.”
A pleasant surprise? Gu Ting, who had been on the verge of losing his temper, finally heard some good news. Although the level of truth was debatable, if Gu Jin said it, it was worth believing.
Gu Ting stepped outside to give instructions to the Royal Guards. Along the way, he threw Wen Ju—who was still in shock that his boss liked that “He-monster”—into a lounge and placed him under house arrest.
When the doctors arrived, Gu Jin realized they were familiar faces—the same two people who usually handled her treatments and medications. After a brief discussion, they began checking Gu Jin with various instruments.
Meanwhile, back at the He residence, He Yu’s anger had yet to subside. She looked up the Interstellar Fan Regulations on her optical computer. Seeing the millions of lines of “rainbow farts”—lavish praise—dedicated to Gu Jin, she nearly coughed up blood in frustration.
“Sister, are you still not up?” He Yi knocked on the door. He Yu had gone out early that morning without telling anyone, and He Yi assumed she was sleeping in.
He Yu hurriedly closed her computer and straightened herself before opening the door. “I am up.”
“Do you need something?” He Yu looked at He Yi, who had clearly just showered and changed. Remembering how she had recently insulted his pheromones, she felt a bit guilty.
“It is nothing. It is almost noon, and you have not had breakfast yet. Are you not hungry?” He Yi held a tray of prepared nutrient pastes in various flavors. They were shaped like little animals and looked quite appetizing.
He Yu had not noticed it before, but seeing the food made her realize her stomach had been empty for hours. She took the tray. “I am hungry, actually. When did you learn to make such cute things? You are quite child-like.”
“I did not make them. I have been going to the training grounds frequently lately, and Omegas keep bringing me food. I do not want it, but they just drop it off and leave before I can refuse. I read recently that pregnant women like food that looks good, so I brought it to you.”
He Yi looked gloomy. The Omegas surrounding him daily were seriously interfering with his training schedule.
Hearing this, He Yu nervously looked around and pulled He Yi into the room, shutting the door. “Do not let our parents know about this. You are not allowed to mention my pregnancy to anyone, do you understand?”
He Yi nodded, promising to keep the secret. “But sister, can you at least tell me who the father is? You cannot keep this up forever. Eventually, you will not be able to hide it.”
“Why are you so concerned? This is my child, and it has nothing to do with… the other person.” He Yu sat at the table and began to eat. Thinking of Gu Jin only fueled her anger. She could only imagine what would happen if Gu Jin found out. Actually, she could not imagine it at all; the whole situation was more ridiculous than a fairy tale.
As she ate, He Yu nodded. “The cooking is good. By the way, He Yi, you seem to have quite the luck with the ladies. You are not young anymore; you should consider settling down. Is there anyone you like?”
“Oh, dear sister,” He Yi sighed, “they say pregnant people are sleepy, hungry, and love to gossip. You really are fitting the description perfectly.”
“Nonsense!” He Yu jokingly rapped him on the head. She did not think she was being as He Yi described. “But really, do you have no plans?”
“I really do not.” He Yi rubbed his head, wondering when his sister had become so aggressive. “My idol is Young Marshal Gu. She has so many admirers yet never considers marriage because she is busy fighting for the Empire and the people. How can I focus on romance?”
He Yu choked on her food. He Yi quickly handed her a glass of water. “Sister, I know you do not like the Young Marshal, but you cannot take away my right to have a hobby. Besides, you are the only person in the entire Empire who dislikes her.”
“Since when did Gu Jin become your idol?” He Yu felt as though a little traitor had appeared in her own home. It had been too long since she had properly disciplined her brother.
“Calling her an idol is not quite right. She is my benchmark! She is the brightest North Star of my military career!” When it came to his idol, He Yi was not stingy with his praise.
He Yu thought back to the “rainbow farts” she had seen earlier and felt a headache coming on. “What is so good about her that you all like her? She is arrogant, brainless, ill-tempered, and dictatorial. She does not have a single merit.”
“Sister, that is just prejudice.” Seeing that He Yu was not truly angry, He Yi grew bold. “The Young Marshal has served for ten years and participated in countless major battles. She has led thousands of engagements. In ten years, the Zerg have not set foot within the Weize Empire. She has clashed with the Kada Empire and the Free Alliance hundreds of times. Whether it is a group battle or a duel, she has never lost. She has kept the Weize Empire at the head of the four interstellar nations. Her achievements could not be told in three days and nights!”
“Is that not because the Xulong Empire simply did not participate in those pointless struggles? Besides, defending the border is the credit of many soldiers, not just Gu Jin alone.” Having been infuriated by Gu Jin earlier, He Yu could not stand to hear a single good word about her.
“Sister, why are you praising other countries while belittling our own? Did the second prince of the Xulong Empire not fight to a draw with the Young Marshal? The two of them are even friends. Battles are fought by everyone, but they are led by the Young Marshal. Sister, you are definitely prejudiced.” He Yi muttered as he watched He Yu’s expression. He could not understand why his sister and the Young Marshal, who were both top talents and former classmates, could never get along.
Prejudice. He Yu stirred her nutrient paste with a spoon. Gu Jin had said the same thing, and now He Yi was saying it too. Was she truly prejudiced? Impossible. It must be an illusion.
After finishing her meal, He Yu grabbed He Yi. “Accompany me to the hospital again. I want to get checked.”
He Yi was confused. “Did you not just get checked?”
“Sister, with current medical technology, an ‘accident’ like pregnancy cannot be misdiagnosed.” He Yi tried to hold back his seemingly irrational sister.
“It is not for that. Stop talking and let’s go. And do not tell me your aircraft has a restricted license plate today.” He Yu did not want to explain, so she simply used force to drag him out.
“By the way, sister, is that aircraft you had last time still around? You said you borrowed it from someone?” He Yi had been too excited last time to hear who it belonged to, only remembering it could open the Royal Channel.
He Yu realized she had forgotten to return Gu Jin’s aircraft. She frowned slightly. “Forget it, I will deal with it next time. Whether it is here or not, we cannot use it. Hurry up.”
“So it is still here! Sister, it was too fast last time for me to get a good look. Let me drive slowly this time so I can see it. I remember those three new models are all with the Royals—one for the Emperor, one for Old Marshal Gu, and one in the royal warehouse. Which one is yours?” He Yi finally realized something was off. Who in the Royal family was so close to his sister that they would lend her an aircraft, which was a possession often equated to a spouse?
He Yu kicked him. “You certainly know a lot. Does your idol not have one?”
“I always thought that third one should belong to my idol, but there has been no official news. Sister, did Young Marshal Gu lend it to you?! Sister, let me see it again!” He Yi was nearly in tears.
He Yu kicked her brother away without hesitation and rolled her eyes. “Do not bother. I will go by myself!”
“Sister, I will go!” He Yi did not want her going to the hospital alone. He scrambled up, making a mental note: Pregnancy may cause irritability and even violent tendencies.
While He Yu went to the hospital, Gu Jin’s examination was nearly finished. She sat up as the doctors removed the equipment. “How is it?”
“Please wait. There is too much data to analyze; it will take a moment.” The two doctors stared at the scrolling data on their screens.
Gu Jin pulled her wheelchair over and floated to Gu Ting’s side. “I still think I need to talk to He Yu. If you are worried about me going out and exposing the plan, you can summon her to the palace.”
Seeing her determination, Gu Ting sighed. He gave her a thumb-up. “Great idea. It saves me the trouble of going to the He house to collect your corpse. However, I suggest you go to the Imperial Tombs and dig a hole first. I do not mind filling it in for you when the time comes.”
Gu Jin stared at him, speechless. “I appreciate the thought.”
Gu Ting leaned against the desk. “It is my duty.”
The results were finally ready. The two doctors whispered to each other for a long time, looking at Gu Jin and Gu Ting with difficulty. They recalculated the data twice, their faces clouded with visible distress. Gu Jin and Gu Ting felt their hearts sink.
Gu Ting looked at Gu Jin with pity. “Are you truly about to meet our ancestors?”
“Brother, promise me,” Gu Jin said with a worried face, “if I die, give all the savings I have accumulated over the years to He Yu and the child. I owe them.”
“You have no savings! Every credit you spend is stolen from me!” Gu Ting could no longer endure it. He rolled his eyes and gestured to the doctors. “What is the situation? Just say it. What is the delay?”
