My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 24
As the protective barrier vanished, Wen Ju stumbled toward Gu Jin, swaying unsteadily. After being pummeled by He Yu previously, he had stayed in the Imperial Palace to rest, only to be hit with the news of Gu Jin being “critically injured.”
Skeptical of the news, Wen Ju had intended to peek into Gu Jin’s room after the crowds left. However, he was caught the moment he approached. Gu Jin, who was supposed to be at death’s door, suddenly appeared and conscripted him into hard labor. Now, Wen Ju could not go home, could not sleep in his own bed, and was forced to keep a secret. He realized this was the perfect definition of curiosity killing the cat.
What Wen Ju understood least was why Gu Jin’s first priority was to find He Yu. She had even snatched his Star Rubik’s Cube and remote-controlled Husky for some inexplicable reason.
“I am asking you, what are you doing today? You are heavily injured, yet you are piloting a mecha and calling for He Yu. What exactly are you up to?” Wen Ju knew a little about Gu Jin’s condition, but he had no idea what her end goal was.
A woman with black hair and black eyes stepped down from a nearby mecha. She had a striking figure and the status of a Beta. She walked to Gu Jin’s side and performed a standard military salute. “Young Marshal, that person’s strength was decent. However, it was obvious she only knows the routine taught at the military academy and lacks practical combat experience. On a real battlefield, I could finish her in under ten minutes.”
“That person just now?” Wen Ju’s brain stalled for a moment. “Wait a second, the one fighting you just now was not Gu Jin?”
“Of course not. If it were the Young Marshal, I would not have lasted a single round.” The female Beta, Gu Ling, glanced at Wen Ju, clearly identifying him as a weakling with zero combat ability.
Feeling insulted, Wen Ju choked on his words before the realization hit him. “You mean the one piloting the mecha was that freak, He Yu? Goodness! Is she not an Omega?”
“An Omega?” Gu Ling looked at Gu Jin in disbelief. The Young Marshal had only told her to spar with someone today to test their strength and to remember to show mercy. She never mentioned the opponent was an Omega.
“Gu Ling, do not make a fuss,” Gu Jin said, opening her eyes as her complexion improved slightly. “No one will leak today’s events, and no one will know you fought an Omega. However, your skills have regressed lately. Have you become lax with your training since returning to the Capital Star?”
Gu Ling bowed her head in embarrassment. “I am sorry, Young Marshal. I have indeed been negligent lately. I will make up for it with double the effort in the future.”
“It is only natural to balance work and rest,” Gu Jin said. She crossed her fingers under her chin, her expressionless face appearing stern and formidable. “Let us return to the palace first.”
Startled by Gu Jin’s sudden seriousness, Gu Ling and Wen Ju did not dare to say more and followed her back. Upon entering the room, they saw Gu Ting sitting there, radiating an equally heavy, oppressive aura.
Wen Ju paused, intending to slip away, but two charging photon guns were immediately pressed against his forehead.
With a matching dark expression, Gu Jin steered her wheelchair toward Gu Ting. Gu Ting slammed his hand on the table, showing none of his usual playfulness. “Gu Jin, where did you go?”
Looking at the fully armed soldiers in the room, Gu Jin’s expression remained unchanged. “To see He Yu.”
“I have not even settled the score for the ridiculous mess you caused before, yet you dared to act recklessly again today. Do you truly intend to marry that granddaughter of the He family?”
Gu Ting had already received the news, but seeing the unmoved Gu Jin before him made his chest tighten with anger. This was the person he trusted most, yet she repeatedly tested his limits.
He had allowed her a pass for ruining his previous plans since she was his sister and had just returned. He had even turned a blind eye to the public scandal involving the He family’s granddaughter, believing Gu Jin was not so senseless as to lose her perspective.
He had been relieved when Gu Jin took the initiative to suggest a plan, thinking she was finally sharing the burdens of the Gu family. Yet, by the very next day, she had destroyed the entire plan herself.
If the news leaked that her life was not in danger, all their efforts would be for nothing. Everything would collapse, and the Royal Family would suffer the ultimate humiliation of being exposed as frauds. They would become a laughingstock.
Gasping for air while clutching his chest, Gu Ting felt he would eventually die of a heart attack.
Gu Jin lowered her feet to the floor and used them to pivot her wheelchair. “Have everyone else leave first. I have something to tell you.”
With a wave of his hand, Gu Ting dismissed the soldiers, not wanting to air family grievances in public. Once they were gone, he stared at Gu Jin, waiting for her explanation.
“Do you remember I told you that He Yu and I had an accidental encounter?” Gu Jin did not want to upset him further, but the matter could not be avoided.
However, Gu Ting was surprisingly calm this time. He rubbed his aching temples and looked at her. “Do not tell me there is a sequel. Gu Jin, if He Yu is pregnant, I will sacrifice you to the heavens.”
Gu Jin was speechless. She truly had not considered that possibility.
“Probably… not,” Gu Jin hesitated, feeling uncertain. She then recalled the main issue. “It is not about that. I wanted to tell you that He Yu and I both injected suppressants that day. However, I discovered today that the suppressants I ordered were never delivered. We still do not know what exactly we injected.”
“So,” Gu Ting realized the gravity of the situation, “you two were set up that day?”
“I suspect so. And is it not a coincidence? Xiao Yuqi, the second son of the Xiao family and the son-in-law of the Tao family, was dining with us. His family of three, He Yu, and I had a little wine and ended up drunk. It even happened to trigger He Yu’s heat cycle.”
The more Gu Jin thought about it, the more suspicious it became. Before He Yu mentioned the details, Gu Jin had blamed the alcohol entirely. Now, it felt like a breakthrough; there were simply too many suspicious points.
Gu Ting tapped his palm, his eyes narrowing. “I recall Xiao Yuqi is the husband of the eldest Tao daughter, Tao Ran. Do you not like her?”
“I…” Gu Jin paused, unsure how to answer. Did she like her? The image of Tao Ran’s obedient face appeared in her mind, but it no longer held any of its former attraction. If she saw her on the street now, she probably would not even give her a second look.
“That was ages ago. Why bring it up? I am being serious. I do not even know what was injected into my body. I have no time to think about that.” Frowning, Gu Jin looked at Gu Ting impatiently, pointing out the priority.
Looking at Gu Jin, Gu Ting sighed inwardly. It was over; it seemed Gu Jin had truly shifted her affections, and she had shifted them onto a member of the He family.
“Bring the doctor and a full set of medical examination equipment here,” Gu Ting ordered. Worried about his sister’s health, he decided to move the entire examination suite to the room.
Gu Jin nodded and then remembered He Yu. She motioned to Gu Ting. “Also, have the hospital check if He Yu has had a physical exam. If she has, bring the results here as well.”
Gu Ting agreed. Since both Gu Jin and He Yu had been injected, it was possible the drugs required both parties to be analyzed for a full understanding of the effects. “If the granddaughter of Prime Minister He, He Yu, goes to the hospital for an exam, bring the results to me.”
It was a casual instruction. Neither Gu Jin nor Gu Ting expected He Yu to have gone for an exam so soon, so they did not give it much thought.
Gu Ting reached for a glass of water to soothe his parched throat, which was burning from his earlier anger. Before he could take a sip, his optical computer chimed with an incoming email.
He glanced at the screen and opened the message. The next moment, that single mouthful of water nearly killed him.
“Gu Jin! Cough, cough, cough!”
Choking violently, Gu Ting’s face turned bright red, and the hand pointing at Gu Jin trembled. “I am going to… cough… sacrifice you to the heavens!”
Gu Jin was confused. “What did I do now?”
“What did you do?” Once he caught his breath, Gu Ting stood up by bracing himself against the table. He grabbed Gu Jin’s ear. “What did you do? Did you not tell me He Yu was not pregnant? Then whose child is this?!”
He shoved the display of his optical computer into Gu Jin’s face. Gu Jin stared at the medical report like an idiot. Pregnant? She was pregnant?
Reading it word by word, Gu Jin could hardly believe it. She grabbed Gu Ting’s arm and gave it a hard twist. “It does not hurt. Am I dreaming?”
“Blast it! Gu Jin, you pinched my arm!” Gu Ting let go of her ear and slapped the back of her hand.
“Ouch! It hurts! It is real! My child!” Clutching her rapidly reddening hand, Gu Jin shouted at the screen.
Gu Ting felt utterly exhausted. He reached out to restrain the visibly overexcited Gu Jin. He did not see how this was good news. “Calm down! The one carrying the child is He Yu!”
“Exactly, it is He Yu.” Gu Jin looked at him. This was He Yu’s report; of course, she was the one carrying the child. Besides, no one’s child mattered to her except He Yu’s.
“Is your brain broken?” Gu Ting was frustrated by her lack of common sense. “Are you and He Yu married? You like her, but does she like you? Do you think the He family would ever agree to let her marry into the Gu family? Furthermore, do you think she will even keep this child? Wake up!”
The barrage of questions finally cooled Gu Jin’s overexcited brain. She began to realize the weight of these practical problems.
“But this is my child,” Gu Jin said, her mood dropping as she looked at the report stating the three-week-old fetus was healthy.
“But the mother might not want it. You have no right to demand she gives birth. Try to get over it. By the way, you went to see her today; did she not mention this? The results came out yesterday, so she should already know.”
Gu Ting was adding fuel to the fire. Looking at Gu Jin, it was clear she truly liked He Yu. After all, who would be this happy, happy to the point of idiety after learning someone they disliked was carrying their child?
But it was useless. Although Gu Ting had only met, He Yu a few times, he did not believe she would fall for Gu Jin. This sister of his was likely just engaging in unrequited love.
