My Omega Ex Begs For A Second Chance After Our Reunion - Chapter 8
“Is there a problem?” Jiang Qiu looked at Yu Sheng, acting as if she didn’t find her own actions unreasonable in the slightest.
“Senior Lu is a core member of the R&D department, she cannot be lightly transferred away.” Yu Sheng had already thoroughly familiarized herself with the organizational structure of Zhaoming Biotech. She had a deep impression of Lu Qing, which was why she did not agree with Jiang Qiu’s approach.
The Alpha chuckled softly, completely unsurprised by Yu Sheng’s reaction. “She isn’t the only core member. How much of an impact could losing just one person really have?”
She was a layman, she didn’t understand.
“But… the new department has almost nothing to do with research and development. From the looks of it, public interviews are currently nonessential. If Senior Lu leaves the R&D department, the company will definitely suffer a loss.”
Yu Sheng was objectively analyzing the pros and cons. After all, before returning to Lihua City, she had founded a small company of her own. Although its scale could not compare to Zhaoming Biotech, she was at least clear about situations like this.
“You think my decision is wrong?” Jiang Qiu didn’t deny her words, but her voice raised a few notches as she asked.
The atmosphere instantly grew stiff.
Now that Yu Kunian wanted Jiang Qiu to manage Zhaoming Biotech on his behalf, no one would naturally stop her from making appointments and transfers as long as there was a reasonable excuse. Everyone understood the concept of a new official executing a strict opening policy, a new broom sweeps clean. Most people wouldn’t dare oppose her when faced with that fire, and others were even more afraid of getting burned themselves.
Yu Sheng hesitated. It wasn’t because she was afraid of getting “burned,” but rather because she was worried her opposition would affect her relationship with Jiang Qiu, even though they were currently like strangers.
But thinking back to her purpose for coming to Lihua City this time, Yu Sheng spoke up anyway. “Yes.”
“No matter what, you want to protect her?”
“Director Jiang, she really cannot leave the R&D department.”
Lu Qing finally looked squarely at this Omega.
“Alright, how do you plan to convince me?” The smile in the Alpha’s eyes was ambiguous, making it hard to tell if it was real or fake. Although she hadn’t shown any anger up until now, she had clearly been ruthless in her actions just moments ago.
“What I just said…”
“The reasoning isn’t sufficient.”
Jiang Qiu composed her expression. She glanced at her phone, swept her eyes over the department employees, and then added, “This place isn’t suitable for discussing business. Let’s go to the conference room.”
With that, on the way to the conference room with Yu Sheng, she dialed Yu Kunian’s number.
Jiang Qiu and Yu Sheng talked for nearly an hour. During this hour, the employees in the R&D department were incredibly anxious. As the person involved, Lu Qing was the one who cared most about the outcome. After all, she didn’t want to be transferred, nor did she have any intention of leaving Zhaoming Biotech.
The R&D department was the best compensated department in the company, far exceeding what other companies offered. No one wanted to leave.
In the end, no one knew how Yu Sheng managed to make Jiang Qiu retract even the idea of establishing a new department. The terrifying, oppressive atmosphere that had been permeating the department just now instantly dissipated, and the crisis was entirely averted.
Perhaps because of the “argument” that had just taken place in the conference room, Jiang Qiu left under the pretext of having other matters to attend to, letting Yu Sheng take over her duties.
The Omega escorted Jiang Qiu downstairs. A silent atmosphere enveloped the elevator. The Alpha kept her head down, typing on her phone, with no intention of making conversation with her.
Nevertheless, Yu Sheng’s gaze would drift toward Jiang Qiu from time to time, making it glaringly obvious. Jiang Qiu put away her phone, turned her head to watch the descending floor numbers, and suddenly spoke up out of nowhere:
“Do you think I’ve muddled my head?”
“Ah?” For a moment, Yu Sheng didn’t react. She looked at Jiang Qiu, paused for a moment, and then said, “No, you must have your reasons.”
Jiang Qiu shrugged. “I don’t have any reasons.”
The elevator reached the B1 floor. Before Yu Sheng could ask what she meant, the Alpha stepped out without any intention of explaining, leaving behind only the view of her retreating figure.
Jiang Qiu had said they needed to maintain their distance, and looking at it now, there really was no room for negotiation. Currently, Yu Sheng didn’t even have the slightest chance to get close. The Omega stood in front of the elevator, watching the Cullinan drive over. The car stopped in front of her, the window rolled down, and the Alpha said to her…
“I won’t come often. If there is any official business you can’t handle, send me a message.”
They truly seemed to have absolutely no personal relation anymore. From the moment they arrived at the company until now, Jiang Qiu’s gaze had rarely lingered on her. That unfamiliar, distant, and icy look was like a knife stabbing into Yu Sheng’s heart.
Seeing the car about to leave, the Omega’s heart skipped a beat. Stepping half a pace forward, she opened her mouth: “Jiang… Jiang Qiu…”
The window stopped after rolling up halfway. Yu Sheng stared at the Alpha’s profile, but the words she wanted to say seemed to be stuck in her throat, unable to form a single syllable. That day, Jiang Qiu had told her to stay away from her… Could she refuse?
After waiting for a while without Yu Sheng saying anything more, Jiang Qiu seemed a bit impatient. Consumed by the delay, she simply drove away.
The phone beside her suddenly rang. After exiting the parking lot, the Alpha pulled over randomly by the side of the road. Her expression was somewhat dazed, and it wasn’t until Yu Kunian’s third call that she finally answered.
“What took you so long to pick up?” Yu Kunian’s voice came through the receiver. “I heard about the commotion you caused at the company just now.”
For some reason, Jiang Qiu’s voice was a bit hoarse, and her eyes dimmed. “Yeah, I did my best to help her.”
“I actually guessed a bit of it. It would be Lu Qing who crossed swords with you.”
She had heard that Lu Qing’s personality was just like that, she couldn’t stand parachuted employees and nepotism hires. Because the current director of the R&D department was a well-connected hire from the board of directors, and she was Lu Qing’s only rival who had prevented her from promoting to director.
However, the current director also happened to have some capability and had produced some results, which was why he hadn’t been ousted yet, though Lu Qing had always held a grudge over it.
“This is just right.” Jiang Qiu leaned her head back in exhaustion. “Lu Qing is capable. Now she should be more inclined to build a good relationship with Yu Sheng. When Yu Sheng takes over Zhaoming Biotech later on, the resistance will be much smaller.”
“Things are a bit easier to handle than I imagined,” Yu Kunian agreed.
“Does she know I have the board of directors’ data in my hands?” Jiang Qiu suddenly asked an abrupt question.
“Who?”
“Yu Sheng.”
“Of course she knows.” The voice on the other end of the line blurred slightly, but Yu Kunian’s words still entered her ears clearly. “It was already disclosed to her on the wedding day.”
Jiang Qiu thought to herself, As expected.
“What’s wrong? You sound a bit off.” Yu Kunian noticed that she seemed to have something on her mind.
Jiang Qiu remained silent. She raised her eyes to look out the window, her lip line tightening.
How was she supposed to say it?
Should she say that back at the company just now, she had fallen back into old feelings because of Yu Sheng?
Should she say that when they were alone in the conference room and she smelled the perfume the Omega was wearing, she subconsciously wanted to lean closer, wanting to feel the warmth of Yu Sheng’s pheromone scent again?
Even after two years, Jiang Qiu’s own instincts still gravitated toward that Omega.
The concept of restraint locked her entire being down, yet the intensity of her heartbeat was about to burn her. Jiang Qiu’s rationality and irrationality fought frantically. Because of the ex-girlfriend who had abandoned her, she fell into an extreme state of self-examination.
Her self-esteem became cheap because of it.
Last time, it was a delayed realization of being used, which she would set aside for now. But this time, she knew clearly that Yu Sheng was approaching her deliberately.
If it weren’t for the board of directors’ data, would Yu Sheng still come looking for her?
Jiang Qiu found it laughable. For a split second, she had actually thought that Yu Sheng felt regret.
Clearly, Yu Sheng only had eyes for Zhaoming Biotech. The goals the other party wanted to achieve did not include her at all. It was precisely because Yu Sheng had shown her understanding of Lu Qing today that Jiang Qiu suddenly realized she had been overthinking.
“It’s nothing.” Jiang Qiu’s eyelashes trembled slightly. “I’m hanging up.”
The car started up again, and Jiang Qiu’s face darkened.
She was probably delusional to hope for the impossible to happen.
Returning to Chanyue Mingyuan, Jiang Qiu went to Wen Yan’s home. No one answered when she knocked, so the Alpha entered the password to go in. She changed into slippers, walked past the foyer, and caught sight of Wen Yan, who had fallen asleep on the sofa at some point.
Wen Yan was still holding her newly purchased translation book in her arms. Jiang Qiu grabbed a blanket and quietly stepped closer. The Omega had found a suitable part time job today. French translation. It was paid per order. Currently, the price wasn’t very high, but there would be opportunities for a raise down the line.
The Alpha eased her movements, pulling the book away and placing it face-down on the coffee table. Looking at Wen Yan’s deeply sleeping face, her emotions grew a bit more complicated.
She always said she had to take responsibility for Wen Yan and completely treat the matters regarding Yu Sheng as the past. But facts proved that a person and things she hadn’t been able to forget in two years were equally difficult to manage now.
For a moment, Jiang Qiu didn’t know if she should tell Wen Yan about her past first.
She believed Wen Yan must have some suspicions. Just because she hadn’t said anything didn’t mean Wen Yan wouldn’t notice.
Jiang Qiu stared at Wen Yan for a moment. Her tangled thoughts eventually condensed into a single notion.
Wen Yan was her destined wife, this was an unchangeable fact.
At worst, she would just avoid Yu Sheng. At worst, once the company matters were resolved, she would stay far away from Yu Sheng.
It would be best if they never met again for the rest of their lives.
That way, the hidden emotion would eventually be buried deeper and deeper, never to be mentioned again.
The setting sun dyed the sky a bright shade of orange. Wen Yan opened her eyes fuzzily, sitting up half-awake. After seeing Jiang Qiu next to her, her yawn caught in her throat. She unconsciously straightened her back and asked.
“When did you get back?”
Jiang Qiu’s expression returned to normal. “About half an hour ago.”
Wen Yan rubbed her cheek with her fingertips where the sofa had left an imprint, pursed her lips, and said, “Ah… while I was looking over the materials, I accidentally fell asleep.”
“Are you hungry?” Jiang Qiu chuckled and asked her.
Wen Yan’s gaze landed on the refrigerator. She said somewhat awkwardly, “I have some leftovers from lunch and was thinking of having them for dinner, have you eaten this afternoon?”
“Is it enough for two people?”
The Omega stood up and walked toward the fridge. “It doesn’t seem to be quite enough.”
Hearing this, Jiang Qiu rolled up her sleeves and stood up to walk toward the kitchen. “Are there any ingredients left? Let me make another dish.”
“How about… we go out to eat instead?” Wen Yan hastily declined, feeling bad about troubling her. “When I went out today, I passed by your company. There’s a restaurant there whose dishes look very delicious.”
