- My Omega Ex Begs For A Second Chance After Our Reunion
- Chapter 9 - We Almost Got Married.
“Alright,” Jiang Qiu agreed, naturally answering Wen Yan’s every request. “Let’s go right now.”
Wen Yan turned around to grab her coat. “I had a translation project settle its payment this afternoon, so it’s my treat.”
Jiang Qiu asked, “Are you already getting the hang of the work?”
“I lived in France before and did some translation related work there, so it’s a bit easier for me,” Wen Yan replied.
Wen Yan rarely brought up her past. Jiang Qiu only had a vague idea that the Wen family used to live in France, managing a decent amount of property. Later, their family suffered a sudden downfall and went bankrupt, and all their assets were liquidated to pay off debts. Not long after sending Wen Yan to New York to stay with her maternal aunt’s family, her two mothers had also passed away due to illness.
Driving to a spot near the company, the Cantonese restaurant Wen Yan wanted to eat at was currently packed to the brim. The two of them managed to snag the very last empty table in the main dining hall. The server handed them the menu, and Jiang Qiu asked the Omega about her dietary restrictions before ordering several signature dishes.
As they sat side by side, Wen Yan flipped through the remaining menu that hadn’t been taken away. Jiang Qiu leaned in a bit closer and asked.
“Is there anything else you want to order?”
“I…”
“Excuse me, guests,” a server suddenly interrupted them before she could finish speaking. “There are currently no empty tables left in the restaurant. Seeing that this table of yours is a four persons table, and there’s a lady who is dining alone, would it be convenient for you to share the table? As soon as an empty table opens up, we will move her immediately.”
Wen Yan sought the opinion of the Alpha beside her before nodding. “That’s fine.”
“Alright, thank you both so much. We’ll bring out a complimentary snack for you. Enjoy your meal.” The server smiled politely, then turned around to fetch the lady waiting by the door.
Wen Yan then continued, “The dishes we have are already enough for us to eat, so let’s not order any more.”
Seeing her close the menu and set it aside, Jiang Qiu understood perfectly. “Are you worried that ordering more will be too expensive?”
Without waiting for Wen Yan to reply, Jiang Qiu pulled a bank card out of her wallet and placed it right by the Omega’s hand.
“What is this?” Wen Yan looked at her, deeply perplexed.
“All my savings are in here.” Jiang Qiu gave a soft laugh. “You are my Omega. My money is your money.”
“No, I can’t accept this,” Wen Yan declined, pushing it back.
“Take it, it’s a right you’re bound to have in the future anyway. The food we just ordered counts as your treat, but if we order anything else from now on, it counts as mine. Xiao Yan, you have to give me a chance to pay at some point. I really want to spend money on you.”
Jiang Qiu’s tone was gentle, yet it brooked no refusal.
Wen Yan hesitated for a moment. She felt rather anxious, always afraid of troubling Jiang Qiu. But the Alpha seemed to take great pleasure in it, and what she said was the truth.
Whether domestically or abroad, Jiang Qiu was always exceptionally eager to spend money on Wen Yan.
Even though she knew the Alpha’s family possessed immense wealth with so much money that it seemed entirely inexhaustible. Wen Yan still found it difficult to accept it with a completely clear conscience.
When Yu Sheng was led over by the server to share the table, she happened to overhear the entirety of Jiang Qiu and Wen Yan’s conversation. Her footsteps halted just a few paces away from the table. Looking at them, Jiang Qiu and Wen Yan were talking and laughing in a picture of perfect harmony, causing her eyes to burn.
Suddenly, her throat felt tight and swollen.
She hadn’t expected to run into Jiang Qiu and Wen Yan here, nor had she anticipated witnessing their “affection.” Watching their interaction through trembling eyelashes, Yu Sheng felt those words pierce her ears so sharply it made her feel suffocated.
The way Jiang Qiu treated Wen Yan so beautifully used to be the past shared between her and Jiang Qiu.
In a span of two years, she had become a mere onlooker, stripped of even the right to be jealous.
Jiang Qiu would also take care of another Omega with such meticulous devotion. This stark reality, along with the distance between them, was driving Yu Sheng mad. Just the thought of them getting married caused a tempest of tumultuous waves to crash through Yu Sheng’s heart.
She stood rooted to the spot for a long time until the server turned around. Yu Sheng tried to calm herself down, but the scene before her eyes made it incredibly difficult not to ignite a fire of jealousy. The Omega lowered her eyes halfway, abruptly wanting to leave.
However, as she turned around, she nearly collided with a server bringing out dishes. Following a sharp gasp, both Jiang Qiu and Wen Yan’s attention was drawn over.
The air seemed to freeze for a second, then two…
“Miss Yu?” Wen Yan’s voice rang out first, sounding rather surprised.
Yu Sheng turned back around and walked over to their table, managing only a forced tug at the corners of her lips. “Miss Wen.”
The server poured her a cup of warm water and handed over a menu.
“It just so happens we’re sharing a table, it seems we’re quite fated,” Wen Yan said with a faint smile on her face.
Yu Sheng, however, stole a glance at Jiang Qiu beside her.
The Alpha’s expression had shifted instantly. Her knitted brow carried a distinct hint of aversion, making it impossible for Yu Sheng to utter a single word in response.
Faced with her, did Jiang Qiu have nothing left but annoyance?
Yu Sheng could only look down at the menu to hide her dejected emotions. Yet even after staring at it for a long while, nothing registered. In an instant, she completely lost her appetite.
The dishes Jiang Qiu ordered were brought out one after another. Wen Yan had long been feeling hungry, so she accepted the chopsticks the Alpha handed her. Without her even having to move, food had already been placed cleanly onto her plate. The only soup on the table was placed a bit further away; wanting to ladle a bowl for herself, Wen Yan reached out for the long spoon.
“Watch your sleeve.” Jiang Qiu’s hand caught Wen Yan’s wrist, rescuing the sleeve that had been a split second away from getting soiled.
Following that, Yu Sheng watched with her own eyes as Jiang Qiu rolled up Wen Yan’s sleeve for her.
Those slender hands slowly folded the long sleeve upward, her pale knuckles brushing against Wen Yan’s arm. They maintained a proper distance, yet it still appeared profoundly intimate.
It lasted for only a few seconds, but it felt agonizingly long.
She actually felt suffocated.
Jiang Qiu ended up ladling the soup for Wen Yan anyway, hearing Wen Yan murmur a soft “thank you.” Unable to hide her reddened eyes, Yu Sheng’s breathing grew somewhat ragged, and even her hands resting on the menu couldn’t stop trembling.
It wasn’t until the server came over to ask, “Miss, have you decided on what you’d like to order?”
Yu Sheng hurriedly pointed to a few random dishes to conclude her ordering.
The memories that originally belonged to her were now playing out on another Omega. Yu Sheng’s gaze locked onto Wen Yan’s side, and after a whirlwind of thoughts, nothing was left but a deep sense of unwilling resentment.
Jiang Qiu didn’t love Wen Yan.
They shouldn’t be getting married.
Yu Sheng pressed her lips together. The silhouettes of the two people before her stung her eyes, and her mind flashed back to the past countless times. She wanted to monopolize this Alpha, past, present, and future.
Perhaps feeling the weight of the prolonged stare, Wen Yan raised her head to look at her. Jiang Qiu clearly had no intention of speaking, so Wen Yan stiffly took the initiative to find a topic.
“Miss Yu, do you work around here?”
Yu Sheng retracted her gaze. “I work as President Jiang’s assistant.”
“President Jiang?”
“I am President Jiang,” Jiang Qiu finally deigned to speak.
Wen Yan was surprised. “You never told me about this.”
Jiang Qiu placed some food into her bowl and didn’t answer. Turning back around, Wen Yan said to Yu Sheng, “Then that really is a coincidence.”
Yu Sheng fell silent for a moment. She realized that Jiang Qiu hadn’t told Wen Yan anything regarding her. For some reason, a sudden, despicable thought sprouted within her heart.
If only Jiang Qiu didn’t marry Wen Yan, could this Alpha return to her side?
Thus, she spoke up. “I wonder what President Jiang has told Miss Wen?”
Wen Yan didn’t quite catch her drift. “About what?”
Yu Sheng added, “About me.”
The moment the words fell, the atmosphere at the table instantly turned rigid. Wen Yan turned her head to look at Jiang Qiu, while Jiang Qiu’s gaze shot straight toward Yu Sheng, her eyes carrying a heavy, stark warning.
Then the Alpha said, “There is nothing worth talking about.”
Wen Yan was sharp enough to perceive this subtle tension. For a moment, no one spoke. Jiang Qiu shifted her gaze away, deeming the topic over.
Yet, entirely catching them off guard, Yu Sheng dropped another bombshell: “We used to date.”
Wen Yan was abruptly choked by a mouthful of soup, coughing violently. Jiang Qiu handed over a tissue, unable to spare a moment to block Yu Sheng’s actions as she raised her hand to gently rub Wen Yan’s back.
“I’m fine, I’m fine.” Facing the Alpha’s concern, Wen Yan shook her head.
Yu Sheng’s breathing hitched. The smile on the corners of her lips turned incredibly stiff, her eyes narrowing slightly due to her own interference. Taking a deep breath, she spoke once more.
“Two years ago, we almost got married.”
Wen Yan’s coughing subsided. She lowered her eyes to calm herself for a brief moment. Hearing these words, a third of it was within her expectations, but the remaining vast majority came as a total surprise.
She had originally assumed Jiang Qiu and Yu Sheng were just old friends who had a falling out, she never expected it to be romantic. Her thoughts were a bit of a jumble. She heard Jiang Qiu say in a low, furious tone.
“Yu Sheng, shut up.”
“Did she really tell you nothing at all?” Though it was a question, it carried the weight of a flat statement. Yu Sheng stared into Wen Yan’s eyes, trying to catch a glimmer of anger from the other party.
Yet Wen Yan never showed a single trace of resentment over Jiang Qiu’s omission.
Her tone remained entirely serene as she softly replied, “No, she didn’t.”
Yu Sheng froze.
The fire in her chest rattled violently against her ribcage. She thought she had capsized a vessel, but it turned out she had merely collided with soft cotton. Wen Yan’s reaction was like a redirection of the impact, completely shattering her own ready to launch little boat instead.
Wen Yan didn’t love this Alpha either, did she?
Then why get married? They didn’t seem to have any feelings for each other at all.
Yu Sheng pressed further, “I heard you two barely met a few times before getting engaged. Do you really like her?”
“We have already broken up, so I don’t know what right Miss Yu has to question me?”
“When we were in New York, you said your future marriage partner should…”
Unable to bear it any longer, Jiang Qiu cut her off with a sharp reprimand. “Have you said enough?”
“I’m not finished yet.” Tears had gathered in Yu Sheng’s eyes at some unknown point, her lower lip trembling slightly. “Is our past so shameful to you that you can’t even bring it up?”
“Yes. It’s not worth mentioning at all, it makes me feel embarrassed,” Jiang Qiu said with a cold laugh, a flash of self-deprecation passing through the depths of her eyes.
“Don’t tell me you aren’t perfectly clear on what you did?”
“The things of the past, I…”
“I have no intention of talking about the past with you. I have no interest in reminiscing, and it isn’t worth it.”
Yu Sheng remained silent for a long time, her fire completely snuffed out. Because aside from the past, there was absolutely nothing left to speak of between her and Jiang Qiu.
But Jiang Qiu’s fiercely protective reaction toward Wen Yan drove her nearly to the brink of losing her sanity. She couldn’t bear to watch the Alpha treat another Omega with such thoughtfulness, while facing her with nothing but cold, harsh glares.
That was Jiang Qiu.
The Alpha who once belonged to her.
Once.
