My Omega Ex Begs For A Second Chance After Our Reunion - Chapter 3
Yu Sheng didn’t care for lollipops, but she loved the taste of lychee candy.
Jiang Qiu remembered very clearly that Yu Sheng didn’t like the flavor of orange candy either.
Back when they were in New York, Yu Sheng barely ate candy. At the time, Jiang Qiu was trying to quit smoking, so she frequently resorted to lollipops. Yet, Yu Sheng always derived an exceptional amount of pleasure from kissing away the lychee candy flavor on her lips. The Omega would use the tip of her tongue to hook the sweetness right out of the Alpha’s mouth, before pressing close against Jiang Qiu’s chest with a beaming smile.
Yu Sheng’s smile had always been radiant and bright. When those eyes curved, they were incredibly captivating. Jiang Qiu had fallen into the depths of that gaze countless times. Every single day leading up to their breakup, Jiang Qiu had remained absolutely certain, without a shadow of a doubt, that Yu Sheng loved her.
Jiang Qiu had truly believed that no one understood Yu Sheng better than she did.
But in the end, she hadn’t understood the real Yu Sheng at all. Just like the Omega’s pheromones, when the faint scent of sandalwood brushed against the Alpha’s sleeves, the Alpha always felt as if she couldn’t grasp it, as if the scent would dissipate in the very next second.
That trace of pheromones had never belonged to her. The things concerning Yu Sheng were probably half-truths and half-lies. Perhaps the Omega’s original preference had been orange candy, and perhaps everything she knew about Yu Sheng was merely an illusion.
Yu Sheng was a liar.
Jiang Qiu didn’t want to dig any deeper, nor did she want anything to do with Yu Sheng ever again. She had no emotions left to be squandered on the Omega’s deception.
The rain gradually intensified, and a chill spread across the depths of Jiang Qiu’s eyes. Her gaze slowly swept over Yu Sheng’s expression. A look of sheer disbelief was written all over the Omega’s face, and beneath her blurred lenses, a hint of fluster, true or false, surfaced.
Yu Sheng lowered her eyes, muttering for a moment before saying in a submissive, vulnerable tone, “How could I not be worthy of it… Sister?”
Hearing that familiar address, Jiang Qiu couldn’t help but frown. She took a deep breath before she could barely manage to steady her suddenly chaotic heartbeat. “Miss Yu, I don’t think we are that close.”
Leaving it at that, Jiang Qiu turned around and walked away, brushing past Yu Sheng without any further exchange. Climbing back into the driver’s seat, Jiang Qiu eagerly started the car. Her driving speed accelerated rapidly without her realizing it, as if she were running away.
She was probably afraid that at any given moment, she might develop an unwarranted sense of compassion.
Counting it up, the amount of time they had been separated was already longer than the time they had spent together. Back then, Yu Sheng was 18 and she was 22 when they started this first love. They had dated for nearly a year, but before they could even reach their first anniversary, the relationship came to an end.
Yu Sheng had skipped grades to attend university directly in New York, majoring in pheromone based pharmaceutics. She was highly intelligent, achieving great academic success in New York, and subsequently graduated at the age of 19. That same year, the Omega broke up with Jiang Qiu.
If anyone was “close,” it was likely Yu Sheng who understood her better on a one sided level.
Jiang Qiu had always been completely transparent with Yu Sheng, which allowed Yu Sheng to hold all the cards over her. By acting weak and playing innocent, calling her “Sister” with every breath, she had made Jiang Qiu willingly fall into a gentle trap. The kisses, the sleeping together, and the dates. Jiang Qiu felt as though she could still remember every soft call Yu Sheng had whispered into her ear with crystal clarity.
Yu Sheng had pushed her away so ruthlessly, yet here Jiang Qiu was, still reminiscing about the past. The Alpha frequently talked to herself, criticizing how utterly ridiculous she was being.
Did she hold a grudge? Or rather, did she still brood over the past?
Jiang Qiu’s answer was… yes.
She wanted to confront Yu Sheng and ask her, if the manipulation was real, what about the feelings? But Jiang Qiu understood that the answer was glaringly obvious. Even if she played dumb, it was hard not to see through the cold-heartedness behind Yu Sheng’s motives back then.
To the Omega, she was nothing more than a tool to be utilized. Once the objective was achieved, she became a useless, disposable burden. There was no need for Jiang Qiu to humiliate herself all over again; the facts were established. Two years had already passed, and whether it was true or not no longer mattered.
She had been played. Now, her choices were either to let it go or to seek revenge, otherwise, what other option did she have?
Yu Sheng’s feelings were fake, trapping her, leaving her unable to break free and in absolute agony. It was she herself who refused to believe it, it was she herself who insisted on asking for misery.
Yet, she desperately wanted to find even a shred of evidence on Yu Sheng’s face to prove that the Omega’s past decision had been a mistake. Instead, Yu Sheng acted as if nothing had ever happened, approaching her once again with the exact same look and tone, making it incredibly difficult for Jiang Qiu to remain rational.
What was the purpose this time?
Jiang Qiu lacked the strength to judge.
“Jiang Qiu?” The car was driving noticeably faster than usual, especially on a rainy day. Sitting on the side, Wen Yan was a bit frightened and called out softly to the Alpha.
Only then did Jiang Qiu snap back to reality. She gradually reduced her speed, loosening her grip on the steering wheel, and said, “Apologies, I lost my composure.”
The temperature inside the car was warm, but her shoulder, which had just been dampened outside, still felt freezing cold. Consequently, Jiang Qiu’s tone carried a hint of stiffness.
“It’s alright.” Wen Yan looked at her. “Did something happen just now?”
“I recalled some things from the past. Not very pleasant ones,” Jiang Qiu replied, her expression softening slightly as she pulled at the corner of her mouth.
“Regarding the younger Miss Yu?” Wen Yan could easily tell, after all, she had noticed something amiss ever since they were at the wedding venue.
Jiang Qiu didn’t answer immediately. She fell silent for a long moment, highly reluctant to bring it up again. The interior of the car grew quiet until they stopped at a red light. Only then did Jiang Qiu speak up.
“It’s my own doing, it has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s something from a long time ago, not worth mentioning. However, I would like to set the date for our engagement banquet a bit earlier, if that’s alright?”
Previously in New York, Jiang Qiu had mentioned giving Wen Yan time to adapt to Lihua City. This sudden urgency caught Wen Yan off guard. In truth, whether it was early or late made no difference to her, and she hadn’t paid much attention to it before. But because of Yu Sheng’s appearance just now, a wave of hesitation suddenly washed over her.
“I’d like to think about it.” The questions she wanted to ask never made it past her lips. It was a private matter, after all, and Jiang Qiu was clearly unwilling to elaborate. Wen Yan didn’t press further, but she didn’t give an immediate answer either.
Jiang Qiu smiled. “Alright. There’s no rush to move it forward, I’m just worried about unexpected changes. But perhaps I’m simply overthinking things.”
The light turned green, and Jiang Qiu restarted the car. Wen Yan stole a quiet glance at the Alpha. The gloomy expression Jiang Qiu wore when she first got into the car was gone, replaced once again by her usual placid demeanor. In her impression, Jiang Qiu had never exhibited the kind of emotions she showed when facing Yu Sheng just now.
Wen Yan had always assumed that Jiang Qiu viewed everything with detachment, and that no matter what problem arose, the Alpha would never experience any emotional turbulence. It was only just now, in front of Yu Sheng, that such icy coldness and hard to detect anger surfaced. That fleeting moment of irrationality proved that they once shared a deeply profound relationship.
It also proved that the past had not entirely passed.
Taking the elevator upstairs, Jiang Qiu received a new friend request. The applicant was Yu Sheng. Before she could even click decline, Yu Kunian’s phone call suddenly came through. Just as the elevator reached their floor, Jiang Qiu answered the call while stepping into the apartment with Wen Yan.
Wen Yan was somewhat surprised that Jiang Qiu followed her through the door. Jiang Qiu casually switched on the lights and said to her.
“I have something to discuss with you. Please give me a moment to finish this call.”
Wen Yan nodded and went to sit on the sofa without disturbing the Alpha further. She turned to look at the rain pelting against the window and shrugged her shoulders. Jiang Qiu first poured a glass of water for Wen Yan, then took two bottles of orange juice out of the refrigerator and placed them on the coffee table before finally settling down into the single-seater sofa nearby.
“On your wedding night, why are you calling me?” Jiang Qiu asked.
The background on Yu Kunian’s end was noisy with the sound of rain, she was likely outdoors. “I have serious business to discuss, and I want your advice, did you receive my sister’s friend request?”
Hearing this, Jiang Qiu froze. She clicked back into the request page, frowning. “I see it. I wondered why she suddenly tried to add me, turns out you gave her my contact info. But what do you want her to look for me for?”
“The time has come. After all, the original plan was to have my sister stay in Lihua City this time to take over the business operations of Zhaoming Biotech. The matter regarding the new product has been handled, so we can begin the most crucial step of the plan,” Yu Kunian said. “I plan to go on a honeymoon with Zhizhi in a few days, so I am specially inviting you to join the company as VP.”
Hearing this, Jiang Qiu asked in surprise, “You mean, you want me to parachute into Zhaoming Biotech as a VP? You didn’t mention this in the plan before. And what exactly do you expect me to do? I have never encountered Zhaoming Biotech’s products or business. I haven’t even done ordinary work related to it, yet you want me to be the Vice President?”
“Isn’t that perfect?” Yu Kunian thought it was highly appropriate. “If I appoint someone with zero experience as VP, the board of directors will definitely be dissatisfied with me. That way, I won’t have to worry about whether those directors will have the mindset to kick me out of the game when the time comes.”
“…You really have thought of everything.”
“You flatter me. So having you as VP is truly a brilliant move. What’s more, I need you to push my sister into doing certain things. I can’t trust anyone else.”
“What do you mean?”
“Accidentally leak the information of the board members to Xiao Sheng, giving her the opportunity to contact the directors. Then, I’ll just wait to watch the show.”
“How can you be so sure she will contact them?”
“She wants Zhaoming Biotech.” Yu Kunian’s tone was matter-of-fact. “I’m her sister, I know her well.”
Jiang Qiu took a sip of the orange juice; it was a bit sour. Her brows furrowed slightly. After a brief silence, she spoke up, “I’m a bit curious, why is she so fixated on Zhaoming Biotech?”
“Who wouldn’t want it?” Yu Kunian countered.
To this, there was indeed no way to disagree. After all, Zhaoming Biotech’s reputation in Lihua City was currently among the very best. The company’s product research, development, and market expansion were proceeding like wildfire, and they were a top-tier existence within the pharmaceutical industry. No one would pass up a chance to enter this company, or better yet, seize it.
It was only Yu Kunian, as the founder, who wanted to wash her hands of it. She had been planning this for a very long time, and ever since Jiang Qiu returned to Lihua City, Jiang Qiu had become a pawn in this grand scheme. Pulling her thoughts back, Jiang Qiu placed the orange juice back on the coffee table. Her gaze fell upon Wen Yan, who had walked over to the window at some unknown point.
The friend request was still sitting quietly in her notification list. Jiang Qiu leaned back against the sofa and took a deep breath. She pondered silently for a long moment before speaking up.
“Kunian, can I refuse?”
