My Omega Ex Begs For A Second Chance After Our Reunion - Chapter 2
Yu Kunian was a prominent figure in Lihua City. Aside from her position as the CEO of Zhaoming Biotech, both of her mothers had served on the municipal Alpha-Omega Committee for many years and held deep seniority. As a result, the city’s news and magazines frequently covered the Yu family, yet information regarding Yu Kunian’s younger sister was practically non-existent. Jiang Qiu had never known until now that Yu Kunian’s sister was Yu Sheng.
The world had suddenly become so small.
Being at such close proximity, Jiang Qiu felt as though nothing about Yu Sheng had truly changed.
Except her shoulder-length brown hair wasn’t as dark as it had been two years ago, and those peach-blossom eyes, which Jiang Qiu had caressed countless times, were now obscured behind a pair of lenses, causing the Alpha to daze for a fleeting moment. Yu Sheng wore subtle makeup, and her lipstick shade looked strikingly similar to one that Jiang Qiu had once gifted her. Jiang Qiu’s gaze locked onto it. Realizing what she was thinking, a trace of self-derision flashed in the depths of her eyes.
What on earth am I still holding onto hope for? she thought to herself.
After a moment, amidst the suffocating silence, Jiang Qiu withdrew her gaze and lowered her eyes. Driven by some subtle, lingering impulse in her heart, she imperceptibly reached out and took hold of Wen Yan’s hand beside her.
Wen Yan turned her head to look at her out of instinct, instantly sensing that something was amiss. Her gaze drifted over to Yu Sheng. After a long hesitation, she took the initiative to speak. “Hello.”
Yu Sheng didn’t acknowledge her. Her eyes were fixed tightly on their clasped hands, a hint of annoyance surfacing in her expression.
The atmosphere grew inexplicably tense. Standing to the side, Yu Kunian couldn’t help but frown. She looked at Yu Sheng for a moment, then turned to Jiang Qiu, asking in confusion, “Do you two know each other?”
Hearing this, Jiang Qiu and Yu Sheng spoke in perfect unison. “We don’t.”
Both denied it flatly without a shred of hesitation, yet neither dared to look the other in the eye.
But their guilt seemingly went unnoticed. Yu Kunian didn’t read too much into the strange interaction, after all, her initial intention was simply to have them introduce themselves.
Jiang Qiu didn’t register whatever Yu Kunian said next. When Yu Kunian and Song Minzhi walked away together, Jiang Qiu reflexively pulled Wen Yan along with her. Sensing that Yu Sheng wasn’t following them, the tension in Jiang Qiu’s grip finally slackened. It wasn’t until they sat down and her drifting thoughts settled that she slowly released the Omega’s hand.
Wen Yan looked at her with concern. “Is something wrong?”
Jiang Qiu’s current emotional state was very similar to how she had been at the airport, right after seeing Yu Sheng. Wen Yan couldn’t shake the feeling that the two of them weren’t actually strangers. However, she didn’t know the story, so she couldn’t judge, let alone ask too many questions.
“Nothing.” Jiang Qiu turned her head to look back. Yu Sheng was still standing there, staring blankly in her direction.
Unable to make out Yu Sheng’s expression from this distance, Jiang Qiu turned back around, a bitter smile tugging at the corner of her lips. Was Yu Sheng worried about her? Was she worried that the appearance of an ex like herself would disrupt her current life?
As the heir to Dominion, perhaps Jiang Qiu should have been more ruthless. She had the means to make Yu Sheng pay the price, to exact retribution for being deceived and utilized. But she hadn’t. The laughable part was that even when she finally found out she was just being used, the Alpha had still been entirely willing.
Was Yu Sheng afraid? Afraid that she had returned to shatter the peaceful stability of the past two years? Afraid that she had specifically come back after two years to settle old scores?
A wave of bitterness welled up in Jiang Qiu’s heart. She didn’t want to do anything at all.
Wen Yan didn’t press further, only quietly noting Jiang Qiu’s demeanor. She had only taken two or three bites of her dessert when Song Minzhi, sitting across from her, suddenly asked, “Is it not to your taste?”
Hearing this, Wen Yan hurriedly waved her hands, her voice somewhat soft. “No, it’s very good. I’m just… not very hungry.”
It was only at this moment that Jiang Qiu seemed to fully snap out of her thoughts. Hearing Wen Yan’s words, she concealed her emotions, frowning slightly as she looked at the dishes on the table. She then stood up and said, “She just returned to the country, so she might not be used to these dishes. I’ll take her to order something else.”
The Alpha gently took Wen Yan by the wrist to pull her up. The Omega didn’t let go of the dessert in her hand, and although she stood up and followed Jiang Qiu, she still explained in a low voice, “There’s no need, I’m really not that hungry.”
“You barely ate anything today.” Jiang Qiu reached over and took the dessert from her grasp. “You only had half a piece of bread this morning. How is that enough?”
“Won’t there be food served once the wedding officially starts anyway?” Wen Yan asked.
Jiang Qiu replied, “I’m worried you’ll be even less accustomed to the wedding courses. I’ll take you to eat something you like first.”
As the two of them temporarily stepped away together, Yu Sheng stood near the entrance, her eyes tracking the direction of their departure for a long time. For some unknown reason, her eyes felt as if they were stinging. The image of Jiang Qiu holding Wen Yan’s hand kept flashing through her mind, causing her heart to ache with a surge of anger.
Yet she wasn’t sure who she was angry at.
No matter how blind one could be, Yu Sheng could tell that the relationship between Jiang Qiu and Wen Yan was very close. They might be dating; otherwise, they wouldn’t be holding hands or standing so close to one another. That was an Omega, Yu Sheng was certain, an Omega whom Jiang Qiu was looking after in every possible way.
Yu Sheng was on the verge of losing her mind, yet she felt entirely powerless.
Refusing to believe her own speculations, she turned and sought out Yu Kunian. Standing behind her, she composed herself for a moment before asking, “Sister, your Alpha friend… Jiang Qiu…” Yu Sheng paused mid-sentence. She hadn’t expected her heart to still tremble inexplicably just from uttering that Alpha’s name. “The Omega beside her, is she her girlfriend?”
She refused to give up hope. Even though she had seen them holding hands, she still didn’t want to believe it. Yu Sheng desperately hoped it was false, hoped that Jiang Qiu didn’t have any other Omega by her side.
But she seemed to have forgotten that back in New York, on that torrential rainy day, she was the one who had personally initiated the breakup.
Yu Kunian answered promptly, “Not her girlfriend, she’s her fiancée.”
Upon hearing the first half of the sentence, a faint smile almost graced Yu Sheng’s face, bringing her an immense sense of joy. However, the second half instantly struck her like a bucket of ice water, chilling her to the bone. The word “fiancée” seemed to pierce through her entirely. The Omega couldn’t even maintain a basic smile, her fingertips freezing mid-air as she trembled uncontrollably.
Yu Kunian glanced over at Yu Sheng and noticed her expression was incredibly strange, her face visibly pale.
“What’s wrong with you?” Yu Kunian stood up and asked. “Why do you look so pale?”
Yu Sheng forced out a smile, but her cheeks felt awkwardly stiff. She had no choice but to lower her head, her fingernails digging into her palm as she tried her best to keep her tone calm. “Sister, I just didn’t get enough rest. I want to go lie down for a bit. It’s nothing.”
With that, the Omega turned around, continuously regulating her breathing. Yu Sheng bit her lip, suppressing the discomfort in her chest as she slowly walked away. Her eyes behind the lenses grew dazed for a moment as she murmured to herself, “Fiancée?”
Jiang Qiu, how could you… how could you marry another Omega?
The wedding banquet didn’t conclude until very late. As a close friend from Yu Kunian’s side, Jiang Qiu had to stay back to assist with a few matters, leaving Wen Yan to wait in the banquet hall. Mid-way through, Yu Sheng approached Wen Yan.
Catching a glimpse of Yu Sheng’s figure out of the corner of her eye, Jiang Qiu felt an ominous premonition. She hurriedly abandoned the tasks at hand to head back, but by the time she looked again, Yu Sheng had already vanished. A trace of confusion surfaced on the Alpha’s face, but she continued her approach regardless. Wen Yan smiled up at her, her voice gentle. “Are you finished with your tasks?”
“Not yet.” Jiang Qiu scanned the surroundings, but there was indeed no sign of Yu Sheng anymore. “Kunian’s sister came over to find you just now. What was that about?”
Wen Yan was surprised for a moment, then spread open her empty right palm to show her. “Miss Yu said she likes eating candy, especially orange-flavored ones, so she came to ask if I could give that lollipop to her.”
Hearing those words, Jiang Qiu’s breathing hitched.
Has your taste changed, Yu Sheng?
In the past, that Omega never liked eating sweets.
Jiang Qiu’s state of mind turned profoundly complex in an instant. She stared at Wen Yan’s palm for a very long time, her mind once again replaying every single memory of her past with Yu Sheng. Finally, the Alpha fished out a brand-new lollipop from her pocket, handed it to Wen Yan, and said.
“This time, don’t give it away to anyone else.”
Jiang Qiu’s eyes were very dark. The moment she finished speaking, Wen Yan met her gaze. She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but those pitch-black depths seemed to carry a hint of chilliness. Yet the Alpha’s expression remained gentle, and that intensity lasted only for the blink of an eye before returning to normal. Wen Yan assumed she had simply misread the situation.
belatingly, Wen Yan replied, “Alright.”
Jiang Qiu then added, “I’ll be done very soon.”
The Alpha offered a gentle smile to Wen Yan. To any outsider, they looked like a couple with a deeply stable relationship, drawing plenty of envious looks. There were many people in the banquet hall, but only one person kept their eyes glued to them.
As Jiang Qiu immersed herself back into her tasks, Wen Yan slowly unwrapped the candy. The initial taste of orange carried a hint of tartness, causing the Omega to knit her brows slightly. But soon, sweetness enveloped her entire mouth. She lifted her eyes to gaze in Jiang Qiu’s direction.
It was very sweet, exceedingly sweet. So sweet that she found herself a little unaccustomed to it.
By the time Jiang Qiu finished wrapping things up, the sky had completely darkened. The overcast night grew increasingly cold, carrying a subtle, imperceptible dampness in the air. The Alpha’s purple Cullinan rolled out from the parking lot. Jiang Qiu parked the car right in front of Wen Yan, then stepped down from the driver’s seat.
The Omega’s cheeks had been bitten frozen by the wind. Watching Jiang Qiu approach, Wen Yan pointed up at the dim sky and said.
“It looks like it’s about to rain.”
Jiang Qiu tilted her head up, unable to tell for sure. “Let’s hope it doesn’t.” Since that day, she had grown to detest rainy days.
With that, Jiang Qiu pulled open the car door and ushered Wen Yan into the passenger seat. Most of the banquet guests had long since dispersed, leaving the entrance practically deserted. The Cullinan’s headlights cut through the darkness, illuminating the asphalt road aheadalong with a person’s shadow.
Just as the Alpha was about to step back into the driver’s seat, she slowly froze in her tracks. In that exact instant, a flash of lightning ripped through the sky, glaringly bright.
Yu Sheng’s hair had been tossed into disarray by the wind. She seemed to have been waiting outside for a long time, the tip of her nose flushed red. As she moved closer to Jiang Qiu, she saw the Alpha take half a step backward. The Omega halted in her tracks, seemingly having anticipated this reaction. Even so, Yu Sheng’s gaze remained burning and intense, while Jiang Qiu looked away.
“Jiang!”
Yu Sheng’s voice was drowned out by a clap of thunder. A moment later, a pitter-patter of raindrops began to fall, splattering against both of their shoulders.
The coldness seeping into the back of her hand felt as though it were piercing straight through her heart. Jiang Qiu couldn’t help but find it ironic; their final encounter two years ago had been on a rainy day, and now, their reunion was exactly the same. It was as if heaven itself was reminding her of her past experience, reminding her of just how heartless and cruel the Omega before her could be, reminding her of how utterly wretched she had been that day.
Yu Sheng opened the clear umbrella in her hand. She raised it, intending to hold it over Jiang Qiu’s head, but Jiang Qiu was quick, using her hand to block it. Her gaze then drifted to the lollipop Yu Sheng had taken from Wen Yan, which was currently tucked into her front breast pocket. Jiang Qiu let out a cold laugh, pushing the umbrella away entirely as she spoke.
“Don’t bother, Miss Yu. I can’t afford your kindness.”
