My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 9
‘Should I go, or shouldn’t I?’
Unlike before, Eleanor couldn’t easily decide once the building was in sight. More than anything, she thought Dreid would be busy. She felt it would be a bother to Dreid if she visited when he was so busy.
But soon, Eleanor took a step. She could just take a peek since she was already here. She didn’t necessarily have to make herself known to him.
In the first place, the only reason she came to Finn Bank was because she doubted whether Dreid was a solid banker. Anyway, Eleanor only needed to see Dreid working at the bank.
“Welcome.”
As soon as she entered the bank, a friendly person greeted her with a smile. Eleanor also greeted them lightly and looked around. As she saw from the outside, there were many people.
Eleanor looked for Dreid among the bankers who were busily talking to people. Dreid had said yesterday,
That he was always busy and every day was the same.
That seemed to be true, but no matter how much she looked around, Dreid was nowhere to be seen.
He sometimes said that dealing with people was the most tiring part of his bank work. If that were true, Dreid should be among the employees dealing with people now.
Besides, Dreid had said he was a low-level banker himself. But no matter how much she looked around, he wasn’t there.
‘What is it?’
Why couldn’t she see him? Eleanor suddenly felt her whole body turn cold.
Was it all a lie? Or, in the first place, did Dreid not work at this bank?
“Get out of the way!”
Suddenly, someone pushed Eleanor. Eleanor frowned and looked at him. He seemed very busy, as he didn’t even follow the order and immediately sat down in an empty spot, raising his hand to the banker and starting to argue.
As expected, there were troublemakers everywhere. Eleanor shook her head and turned her gaze. At that moment, Eleanor paused. She saw a familiar person.
“…Dreid?”
Someone was entering from the entrance. It was a man with a neat black suit and neatly combed black hair. His handsome face was eye-catching at a glance.
Eleanor was glad that there were many people here and immediately mingled among them to observe him.
Dreid didn’t seem to see Eleanor. Several people were following Dreid, as if they were attending to him.
Dreid, who said he was a low-level banker and that dealing with people was the most tiring part of his work.
Dreid immediately walked to the iron door guarded by people with guns. The people guarding the door greeted Dreid faithfully as soon as they saw him.
It was as natural as if he used the place often. Dreid lightly accepted the greetings and completely disappeared through the door, and all the people following him also followed.
Eleanor stood there blankly. She didn’t know where to start thinking.
‘What is it?’
What kind of person is Dreid here? The iron door that Dreid entered was tightly closed. Moreover, even people with guns were standing guard there.
Looking at that, it didn’t seem like he had a very low position here.
‘Why did he lie?’
That’s what she was curious about now. People bumped into Eleanor as they passed by. Eleanor bit her lip and left the bank.
As soon as she came out of the bank, she took out Kikid Cream and applied it to her wrists as well as her arms. She wasn’t in contact with people to the point of bruising, but still, smelling the scent of Kikid Cream would at least clear her head and make her feel stable.
However, her mind was not easily organized. The more she got to know him, the more confused she felt for some reason.
She didn’t know whether it was fortunate or unfortunate that she realized that only now.
* * *
When she arrived at the request office, Pitty greeted her with a bright face.
“Eleanor! Have you had lunch?”
“No.”
When Eleanor shook her head, Pitty carefully placed a flower basket and a sandwich on the desk.
“What is this?”
The sandwich was understandable, but the flower basket was not. When Eleanor was curious, Pitty said with a smile.
“Dreid sent it.”
“My husband?”
Pitty nodded. Then she pushed the flower basket further forward. Eleanor looked at the flower basket with a wary feeling and found a note inside.
[Thank you for marrying me. – Dreid]
It was a neat handwriting with simple words.
Eleanor stared at the note for a moment. Usually, she would have called Dreid right away to thank him, but she didn’t feel like it now. Eleanor pushed the flower basket aside.
Pitty carefully looked at Eleanor and then reported on the work that had been troubling her all lunchtime.
“Eleanor, I looked into Finn Bank, but the security is so tight that there’s a limit to what I can find out.”
“…Didn’t anything come out, even a little?”
“Well, it did, but it’s information that people who know about Finn Bank already know, so it’s not very…”
“What’s the information?”
“It’s nothing new. Finn Bank is said to be wholly owned by the emperor’s illegitimate child. So, the crown prince is trying to do something about the bank, but it’s not easy.”
The emperor’s illegitimate child. Eleanor recalled the story she had heard in the streetcar earlier. It felt like that word kept getting stuck in her head, too much to be a coincidence.
“Is there anything else?”
“This might not be very helpful, but the emperor’s illegitimate child is said to be not just one person. As far as I know, they’re half-siblings.”
“Half-siblings?”
“Yes, but there’s almost no detailed information about that. No matter how much I try to investigate further, it’s like it’s blocked.”
Pitty said gloomily. Eleanor didn’t ask further, thinking that Pitty had been racking her brains.
“Good job.”
Pitty carefully watched Eleanor’s expression and returned to her seat. She was also disappointed that she could only get this much information.
“…Eleanor, should I investigate further anyway?”
“If it doesn’t work with the magic orb here, it’s intentionally blocked from the start, so there’s nothing we can do.”
Pitty nodded. There was a limit even when collecting information with the latest magic orb.
The magic orb used in Eleanor’s request office looked like a glass bead at first glance, but it was a magic bead that was calculated with a high-level magic formula and naturally absorbed information floating around.
Occasionally, there were pieces of information that were not collected by the magic orb, and they were mostly information tied up with high-level magic.
It costs a lot of money to tie up information like that. So, most people don’t defend information with magic.
In fact, there were few people whose information was being tracked by magic orbs. In the first place, there were only a limited number of people who used magic orbs, and it was difficult to design magic orbs because they had to filter and collect a lot of information. Naturally, it was difficult to use magic orbs unless it was a really important case. So ordinary people didn’t tie up information with magic like that.
If you can’t collect information with a magic orb like this, you’ll end up having to move directly, but Finn Bank doesn’t have much information that would make you move directly. Since there’s not much known in the first place, there will be a limit even if you try to investigate directly.
In short, someone intentionally blocked such information.
“Still, just in case, I’ll design the magic orb by calculating it a little differently.”
Pitty said confidently, not losing her enthusiasm. Eleanor smiled and nodded.
However, Eleanor looked at the desk and hardened her expression again. The more she investigated Dreid, the more suspicious she became. And in a bad way. And the more she knew, the more he was hiding.
Then the phone rang. It had been a long time since she had heard the phone ring. Pitty looked at Eleanor with surprised eyes and answered the phone.
“Yes, this is the request office.”
Pitty’s expression changed from moment to moment throughout the phone call. At first, she had a bright expression, but as the other side said something not very good, her expression gradually darkened.
She also glanced at Eleanor from time to time. Eleanor wondered what was going on and kept looking at Pitty.
Soon the phone call ended, and Pitty carefully put down the phone.
“…Um, Eleanor.”
Eleanor somehow felt that her work was being disturbed again by Pitty’s cautious voice. Somehow, the feeling was similar to before.
“What’s wrong?”
“The courthouse called and said that the evidence of Mrs. Artina that I submitted earlier was wrong.”
“The evidence was switched again?”
“Yes, so I think I have to go and check it myself. I’m sure I checked and sent it several times then.”
Eleanor let out a faint sigh. It was very similar to a few days ago. Eleanor looked at the flower basket that had been pushed aside and said.
“It seems like someone is subtly interfering.”
“Eleanor, don’t think like that too much. Maybe it’s a mistake by the courthouse.”
Pitty said that, but these errors were too frequent after accepting the crown prince’s request.
When Eleanor didn’t answer, Pitty said.
“Then Eleanor, I’ll go to the courthouse for a while. I think that matter will be resolved quickly when I come back. After all, we still have that evidence on our side.”
Pitty had copied a lot of the chips she had given earlier, and there were several chips on the shelf. As she took a few chips, Eleanor said.
“Be careful on your way.”
“Yes, I’ll be back.”
As Pitty left the request office, the surroundings became quiet in an instant. Eleanor looked at the flower basket next to her again. It was a lisianthus with a good mix of purple and red. The flower buds were quite luscious and eye-catching.
Eleanor slowly touched the petals. It was soft, but it seemed like it would be crushed and withered soon.
Unchanging love.
Eleanor always thought that when she looked at lisianthus. The flower language was appropriate, and the flowers were luscious, so it was a good flower to give as a gift.
She had never told Dreid about lisianthus. He sent different flowers every time he sent a flower gift like this, and today it was lisianthus.
Whether it was a coincidence or intentional.
She thought she loved Dreid. If he kept doing this, Eleanor didn’t think she could guarantee that feeling either.
