My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 8
The Crown Prince’s secretary seemed to ponder for a moment before shaking his head with a stern face.
“Yes, there’s no way you could have known. And anyway, this was something we needed to be proactive about. Besides, that treasure originally belonged in the Imperial Palace.”
“Yes, it was originally supposed to be in the Imperial Palace.”
Even as he said that, he wiped his forehead with a handkerchief. The secretary sighed deeply at the sight.
“By the way, how bad is His Majesty the Emperor’s health?”
“…It’s very bad. The doctor says he won’t last more than two months.”
“That’s serious.”
The secretary’s face hardened, and the person sitting across from him clutched the handkerchief he was holding, looking anxious.
“It wasn’t this bad before, was it? His health suddenly deteriorated after that treasure disappeared, and now it’s completely…”
“Still, don’t worry too much. With that treasure, he should be able to recover some of his health.”
“It’s a relief that we found even that. But still…”
As the aide shook his head, still looking uneasy, the Crown Prince’s secretary slammed the table. The sudden loud noise startled him, and his eyes widened.
“If you’re so anxious, His Majesty the Emperor will be even more anxious.”
“I’m, I’m sorry.”
“Just wait a little longer. His Highness the Crown Prince has a plan.”
Eleanor listened to their words for a moment before checking the time. Almost three minutes had passed. Besides, there was only one bottle of invisibility potion left.
It didn’t seem like she would hear anything worthwhile by staying any longer. Moreover, she didn’t know exactly what they were talking about. What plan were they even referring to?
Just then, the door opened. It seemed the food they had ordered was arriving. Eleanor quickly slipped out through the crack in the door as it opened. A slight breeze blew, but the person bringing the food didn’t even notice Eleanor passing by.
As soon as Eleanor left the restaurant, the invisibility potion wore off, and her body soon returned to normal.
As Eleanor returned to the request office, she thought about what they had said. It was difficult to grasp the full story from what she had overheard. But what was clear was that the Emperor’s health was failing and the Crown Prince’s side had a plan.
‘What could it be?’
She was curious, but Eleanor soon forgot about it. More than anything, she was more curious about Dreid than such complicated matters.
As soon as she entered the request office, Eleanor gave the spider-shaped device to Pitty.
“You can extract the chip here and submit it as evidence.”
“You succeeded so quickly! You’re amazing, Eleanor!”
Pitty said with a smile. Eleanor waved her hand as if it were nothing. Then she sat down at her desk. Now that she had completed all the remaining requests, all that was left was to find out about her husband. The situation was only deepening her suspicions, so she couldn’t put it off any longer.
Eleanor calmly said to Pitty.
“I think I need to find out more about my husband.”
“Mr. Dreid?”
“I think I’ve been too indifferent to him all this time.”
“I don’t think it was that bad.”
Pitty said, puzzled. In her opinion, Eleanor had shown just as much interest in her spouse as Dreid had.
She always went home early on his birthday, and when gifts arrived here for him, Eleanor would call Dreid with a bright face. And Eleanor never lost her smile when she talked about her husband.
In a word, Eleanor and Dreid were a perfect couple. They even made Pitty, who had never thought about marriage, consider it for once.
But Eleanor shook her head with a bitter smile.
“I think there are more aspects of him that I don’t know than I thought.”
Pitty was surprised. She really thought there was no room for anything to go wrong between them…
“Pitty, can you find out about the bank where Dreid works? It’s Finn Bank.”
At Eleanor’s words, Pitty snapped out of her thoughts and nodded.
“I’ll look into it right away.”
Pitty removed the chip from the spider device and put it in an envelope. Then she immediately brought a few magic tools to her seat.
Eleanor stared at her desk for a moment. She was now determined to find out about Dreid’s red spots. He had refused to tell her exactly what they were, but Eleanor felt uneasy about it.
“I’m going to the library for a bit.”
Eleanor immediately got up and went outside. It wasn’t exactly urgent, but she didn’t have anything else to do right now either. Since the library was near Finn Bank, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to stop by the bank as well.
It was Eleanor’s first time going to his bank. When she trusted him, she didn’t really care about where he worked, nor did she have the time to be interested.
Whenever there was bank business, Dreid took care of it all, and at the time, Eleanor was quite busy herself.
But now, those requests had disappeared as if by appointment. Luckily, one request had come in today, but it seemed like it would be cut off again.
In this situation, Dreid was vague or avoided conversation. In the end, she had no choice but to find out for herself. Perhaps this was unavoidable. It was also something she couldn’t help. Whatever the case, Eleanor headed to the library.
It was still daytime, so there were quite a few people on the streets. Eleanor took the streetcar towards the library. Fortunately, the streetcar had just arrived.
Surprisingly, there weren’t many people on the streetcar. Some were reading newspapers and talking to each other, while others were dozing off or staring blankly outside.
Among them, Eleanor was the one staring blankly outside. She was looking outside until she arrived at the library.
“So, how’s work these days?”
Eleanor turned her head at the sudden voice. A man with a splendid mustache was talking to the person next to him. For a moment, Eleanor thought it was Mrs. Artina’s husband, but upon closer inspection, it wasn’t.
“His Majesty the Emperor’s health is failing, so my work is also gloomy these days.”
“But doesn’t His Highness the Crown Prince exist?”
As soon as those words came out, the two of them looked around, as if they had said something they shouldn’t have. Eleanor quickly pretended to look outside. Then the two of them, relieved, began to whisper again, lowering their voices.
“His position isn’t that solid these days either. Even if he brought back that treasure, His Majesty the Emperor’s health is still not good, and above all, that bastard isn’t disappearing either.”
“Hmm, I heard that the bastard is quite an eyesore. It seems His Highness is very troubled because he’s holding a lot of things.”
“The bastard wasn’t this threatening before, but the situation is quite bad these days.”
“But isn’t His Highness at an advantage? After all, when His Majesty the Emperor passes away, His Highness will inherit everything. Even if His Highness’s position is narrow now, there are still some aristocratic circles that support the Imperial Family.”
“You never know. I’ve heard that there are some people who are subtly leaning towards the bastard.”
“Hey, you’re saying dangerous things.”
“Hmm, but when you look inside the Imperial Palace these days, it’s not like it used to be. The bastard is reaching out so much.”
Just then, the streetcar stopped.
Eleanor lightly got off the streetcar. The streetcar soon sped away. Eleanor looked at the receding streetcar before turning around.
She knew that His Majesty the Emperor was in poor health, but she didn’t know that the Crown Prince’s position was so narrow. And a bastard? It was the first time she had heard of it. Was that why they were talking so cautiously?
But Eleanor soon forgot about it. In the first place, she wasn’t very interested in politics, and it wasn’t something that would immediately affect Eleanor’s life.
What she was curious about now was Dreid’s red spots. She was even more curious because he didn’t tell her the details.
Eleanor entered the library with a firm expression. There were occasionally people, but not many. She looked around for a moment before moving towards the area where medical books were collected. The number of people decreased significantly as she went there.
Eleanor walked down the wide hallway, lost in thought. Dreid’s symptoms appeared after dinner last night.
Was it a chronic illness he had been suffering from for a long time? Or was it really a minor illness…? Otherwise, there was no reason for him to be so relaxed.
Even after worrying for a long time, she couldn’t accurately determine whether the symptoms were contagious, serious, or a long-term illness.
What was clear was that the reason she came to the library during work was because she was worried about him. Of course, her suspicion of Dreid still remained, but on the other hand, she was worried about his condition.
Just in case, Eleanor first looked for symptoms of serious illnesses. She diligently searched through the books before immediately putting them down.
No matter how many books she looked at, there was no mention of red spots. In the first place, she doubted whether such symptoms were caused by a disease.
The good news was that it probably wasn’t a serious illness. Of course, it could be a rare disease symptom, but at least there were no such symptoms in the books.
Eleanor fidgeted with her hands. Why hadn’t Dreid told her this fact sooner?
Then she remembered what he had said. That he liked that she was paying attention to him like this.
‘But I wasn’t that indifferent.’
If what Dreid wanted from her was constant suspicion and attention, he would be happy. Eleanor had been thinking about him from this morning until now. So much so that it gave her a headache.
Eleanor sighed softly and suddenly looked up. Then she looked at the clock and was surprised to look around.
Lunchtime had already passed. She had been diligently searching through the books, so time had passed faster than she thought.
Eleanor organized the books and put them in one place. She knew that it wasn’t a serious illness, so she could think about the rest later.
As she left the library, the hot sunlight stung Eleanor’s eyes. Eleanor looked around for a moment before seeing a neat building nearby. It was Finn Bank.
It was the most used bank in the capital of the Artina Empire. In other words, it was almost the only bank people used.
It was past lunchtime, but people were still busily coming and going. Eleanor hesitated for a moment.
