My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 10
Eleanor had definitely given him a chance yesterday.
A chance to tell the truth.
There was no way Dreid hadn’t noticed. Eleanor had cautiously approached, trying to figure things out, but he must have realized it. He even said he would find out who was interfering with her work.
That was definitely what Dreid intended to say.
Eleanor instantly picked up the phone.
‘Should I just ask him?’
Since things had come to this point, it was exhausting to keep suspecting each other. But Eleanor couldn’t easily make the call.
Her hands were getting sweaty. Eleanor had always made quick decisions, which had kept the agency from going bankrupt.
But now, strangely, or rather, when it came to Dreid, she hesitated to an unusual degree. Was it because she still had feelings for him? Was that why she wanted to believe in him, even a little?
Come to think of it, there was only evidence that Dreid had interfered with her work, but no other evidence about his identity. For example, it hadn’t been clearly revealed what kind of job Dreid had, or where his assets came from.
The evidence that Dreid had interfered with Eleanor was only obtained after a lot of tracking. At that time, everyone who had commissioned Eleanor had canceled their requests.
And Eleanor learned that they had all met a specific person, Zibed. Eleanor tracked Zibed for a while and found that he spent a lot of time on the phone with someone in particular. And while following Zibed, she even saw him meeting with Dreid.
While observing Zibed, Eleanor realized that he hardly ever met anyone. The only person he met was Dreid.
When she found out about this and went to find Zibed, he had vanished without a trace. Moreover, the house he lived in was being cleaned out.
The people who were cleaning up were about to throw everything away as if it were trash, so Eleanor took all the documents from there. And there was a document with Dreid’s personal information on it.
The situation fit together perfectly. Zibed, who suddenly disappeared, the documents about Dreid that came from there, and the subtle interference that still hadn’t stopped.
So Dreid was behind all the interference. If that wasn’t the case, why would Zibed have suddenly disappeared? As if he had realized everything.
Given Dreid’s many unknown assets, he may have even bought Zibed off with money.
Eleanor sighed. There was another problem. Dreid had bought people off and plotted things, but she had no idea why.
‘Why is he interfering with my work?’
Was it really to make her quit, as Dreid had said last night?
Maybe Dreid had meant it that way, indirectly. To really make Eleanor quit this job.
But why?
No matter how much she thought about it, Eleanor couldn’t figure out why Dreid was suddenly acting like this, after they had found the Crown Prince’s treasure.
Just then, the door opened with a jingle. Eleanor thought Pitty had returned, and she rested her chin on her hand, looking at the documents about Dreid.
“Hello, is this the Eleven Magic Research Institute?”
It was a rather cheerful voice asking. Eleanor didn’t even look at the door and said,
“No. It moved a year ago.”
Occasionally, people looking for the Magic Research Institute came to Eleanor’s agency like that. Apparently, there used to be a fairly famous magician here, and some people even came with gifts.
But it had been a year since it moved, and for the past eight months, those people had almost stopped coming. And yet, there were still people looking for it.
Eleanor shook her head.
“Are you Eleanor?”
At the unexpected question, Eleanor slowly raised her head. There was someone looking straight at her. He made eye contact with Eleanor with bright eyes. The moment their eyes met, he smiled brightly.
Eleanor stared blankly at him.
He was an unusually handsome man. He had a softer impression than Dreid, and his clothes were covered in magical tools. The magical tools jingled as he moved.
He strode towards Eleanor.
“Hello, my name is Mackie!”
He held out his hand to Eleanor. Eleanor looked at his large hand, then raised her eyes to look at him.
His innocent eyes sparkled as if he had met someone, he was really happy to see. It was an unfamiliar look. He felt unusually pure.
His hand was still in the air. He seemed to be waiting for her to accept his greeting. Eleanor was reluctant, but she took his hand. Then he grabbed Eleanor’s hand tightly and shook it lightly.
“Nice to meet you!”
Mackie smiled brightly. Eleanor politely raised the corners of her mouth slightly and nodded. And because she felt somehow uneasy, she immediately tried to pull her hand away, but he didn’t notice and held Eleanor’s hand even tighter.
“Um.”
Eleanor pointed to her hand with her eyes.
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
Mackie let go of her hand lightly. Eleanor fiddled with her hand and said,
“By the way, how do you know me?”
“You’re famous!”
“I’m famous?”
“Yes! I heard you’re really good at digging up dirt on people around here.”
“…”
Eleanor was speechless. Had she taken on too many of those kinds of jobs to make money? But it couldn’t be helped. Treasure requests came in maybe once a month.
Moreover, these days, everyone seemed to be keeping their treasures well-hidden, so there were no requests to find them elsewhere.
“Well, I’ll take it as a compliment.”
“Sure.”
Eleanor turned her gaze away from Mackie. Mackie was quiet when she didn’t say anything.
Eleanor thought he would leave, so she started organizing the documents about Dreid. She couldn’t just sit there blankly. She still had to work on the magic tools and do other small tasks.
After Eleanor had been working on the magic tools for a while, the door was still closed and didn’t make a sound.
Eleanor glanced to the side. Mackie was still sitting there, looking around. He had a curious look in his eyes, as if this place were a museum.
Eleanor was dumbfounded. Why was he so clueless? So she said bluntly,
“Aren’t you leaving?”
“Huh?”
“Wasn’t your business finished?”
Eleanor said coldly, but Mackie smiled brightly as if nothing was wrong.
‘Is he clueless?’
Eleanor looked at him sullenly, and he spread out the magic tools hanging on his clothes and said,
“Do you need any magic tools?”
Eleanor’s face hardened. She should have known from the moment he came in with so many magic tools hanging on his clothes. A magic tool salesman.
She didn’t know that they even memorized the names of agency owners these days. It was an extremely cunning act.
Eleanor said coldly,
“Get out. I’m not buying anything.”
“But, it looks like you need quite a few here?”
“I already have them.”
Eleanor said without turning around.
“Are you really sure you don’t need any?”
Mackie, who had come to the desk at some point, held out a white glowing magic tool. Eleanor raised her head to look at him. It was a waste of a face. Why was he doing something that made others so tired?
“I’m not buying anything.”
Eleanor said clearly.
“Hmm, you don’t like this one?”
Mackie muttered to himself and took out another magic tool.
“Then how about this?”
It was a red magic tool.
“I said I’m not buying anything.”
Eleanor said as cold as ice, but Mackie knelt down and made eye contact with Eleanor. He grabbed the desk with both hands and smiled brightly.
“Just buy one. Okay?”
Slightly lowered hair, innocently shining eyes, and deep dimples above the corners of his mouth. His face was truly a weapon. A weapon that could melt an icy heart in an instant.
Eleanor was stunned for a moment and then looked away. She already knew that beauty could be a weapon, but to realize it once again. Anyway, it was a problem to be too handsome. It had made her speechless for a moment.
As soon as Eleanor turned her gaze away, Mackie said quickly,
“Then do you have any broken magic tools or magic tools that are difficult to design? I’m a pretty good technician, even if I look like this.”
“No.”
“Come on, surely there’s one.”
Eleanor was frustrated and raised her head. She was about to say something.
“I’m back!”
Pitty shouted cheerfully as she came in. Eleanor thought it was a good thing and was about to say something.
“Oh? Mackie, what’s going on?”
“Oh, I’m trying to sell magic tools.”
“I already have magic tools, but…”
“Wait a minute.”
Eleanor stopped their natural conversation.
“You two know each other?”
“Yes.”
“Yes.”
“Then…”
“Oh, Eleanor might not know. Mackie sometimes helps me design magic tools or sells magic tools. He hasn’t visited because he’s been busy.”
“But I came anyway.”
Mackie smiled brightly. Eleanor was speechless. Then he should have said so earlier. Eleanor said to Mackie with a frustrated heart,
“Why didn’t you say so?”
“Say what?”
“That you know Pitty.”
“Oh, I wanted to get to know Eleanor before I said that.”
“…”
“But it doesn’t seem to have worked out very well.”
Mackie said with a slightly sullen look, but soon smiled as if nothing had happened. It was as if a smile was engraved on his face.
But when he smiled with that face, it didn’t feel repulsive. Rather, if someone saw him for the first time, they might even like him.
Was he doing that on purpose, knowing that? Eleanor thought for a moment and suddenly remembered what he had said when he first came here.
“…When you first came here, you said it was the Magic Research Institute.”
“Oh, I was just joking.”
Mackie scratched his head as if he was embarrassed. Eleanor was truly speechless. Then suddenly, anger welled up.
Was this person making fun of her? Mackie, who was good at noticing such things, said,
“I’m sorry. Did I make you feel bad?”
