My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 7
My heart felt like it was going back and forth between a scalding hot bath and a lukewarm one, as if I had committed some unspeakable act. Doubts about Dreid would surface, but then seeing how consistently kind he was, I wondered if I was suspecting him for no reason.
But the evidence was substantial. Dreid’s name and photo were definitely on the list. There was no way the investigation data, verified multiple times, could be wrong. It was a reasonable suspicion.
‘It’s definitely reasonable, but…’
Eleanor’s head felt even more complicated than yesterday. Dreid’s subtly changed words and attitude were also a factor. The way he seemed to crave attention, and the way his face would freeze up in an instant.
Dreid had never gotten angry or frowned before. And what the heck was that red spot?
Lost in thought, Eleanor’s steps faltered for a moment. She seemed to have misstepped, almost falling. Eleanor looked around, flustered.
Fortunately, there weren’t many people around since it was morning. There were people passing by, but no one was paying close attention to her.
Eleanor looked down, trying not to show her embarrassment. A few pebbles were scattered under her shoes. She almost fell inelegantly because of these stupid pebbles.
Her mood wasn’t great from the morning, but she took out Kikid Cream and applied it to her ankle. Kikid Cream was good for bruises and muscle pain. It was also effective for other things, so Eleanor always carried this cream with her.
A cool peppermint scent instantly filled the air. Eleanor looked at the Kikid Cream container, inhaling the familiar scent. Now that her mother and the factory were gone, she couldn’t buy it anywhere. So, Eleanor had no choice but to make it herself, as disappointing as it was.
The round container was about the size of her palm and green in color. Just seeing the green Kikid Cream container brought back faint memories of the past. They weren’t particularly good memories, but they were unforgettable.
The reason Eleanor became a treasure hunter was also because of those past memories. It was to find her lost family treasure intact.
The treasure she still hadn’t found was a necklace with an emerald embedded in it, which was a symbol of luck and prosperity.
It was said that a spirit’s energy resided within it, responsible for the family’s luck and prosperity. When she was young, Eleanor thought her mother was lying. Luck and prosperity? It was too vague a symbol.
But as soon as that necklace disappeared, the barely functioning business collapsed as if it were natural, and the family fell apart. Her mother lost her life from the shock.
Of course, the Kikid Cream business was a bit shaky, but everything happened so quickly that it seemed like it was all because of the necklace’s disappearance.
Moreover, her mother’s sudden death, too.
Eleanor walked on, feeling bitter. The peppermint scent seemed to rise particularly strongly from her ankle.
As soon as she entered the agency, she heard a familiar voice.
“You’re here early!”
It was Pitty, who took on various odd jobs at Eleanor’s agency. Pitty was Eleanor’s loyal assistant, with a good sense of the situation and quick hands.
Strangely, she was more attracted to investigating other people’s backgrounds or affairs of the heart. She said that when she became independent later, she wanted to accomplish secret tasks even more secretly, which embarrassed Eleanor.
“I just wanted to come early.”
Eleanor said, slowly sitting down at her desk.
As soon as she sat down, Eleanor blankly fell into thought. It seemed that yesterday’s events were not easily forgotten.
The red spot on Dreid’s hand. It was something she had never seen before.
What could it be? It was there until last night, but it disappeared in the morning…
“Eleanor.”
“…”
“Eleanor!”
Eleanor looked up at Pitty.
“Is something wrong these days?”
“Why?”
“You seem too serious since morning.”
Pitty watered the dry potted plant thoroughly and then approached Eleanor. Eleanor let out a faint sigh.
“There are many things I suspect.”
Pitty roughly understood the meaning and nodded. She had recently learned about Eleanor’s husband as well. It was a fact she had discovered while doing the work Eleanor had instructed.
Then a loud sigh was heard. It was Eleanor.
She was looking at the documents about Dreid in front of her. It was also evidence that Dreid was behind the acts of sabotage that Eleanor had felt before.
Eleanor looked at the documents again with a bitter heart and said,
“Any new requests lately?”
Pitty said hesitantly.
“…There’s one.”
At those words, Eleanor raised her head. A request that came in at a time when someone was subtly interfering.
“What is it?”
“Catching evidence.”
Pitty said simply. Eleanor nodded silently. She didn’t need to hear the details of the request. It was probably to catch her husband cheating.
Then Pitty approached with the documents.
“Mrs. Artina requested it, she suspects her husband is cheating these days. She says he spends a lot of money mainly at Alder Restaurant. I briefly investigated with a magic tool and it seemed like he was meeting other women there. And this is the husband’s face.”
Eleanor checked Mrs. Artina’s husband’s face and handed the documents back to Pitty. It was too familiar and obvious even without looking closely. Soon, she checked the time and picked up the invisibility potion and the spider-shaped device.
“Are you going right away?”
Pitty, quick to notice, asked. Eleanor nodded.
“Anyway, this kind of work isn’t too difficult and it’ll be over soon. By the way, is that husband coming to Alder Restaurant again today?”
“Yes, I think so. He goes there every day these days.”
“That’s good, then I’ll be back.”
It was a relief to have work to do when her head was already complicated. Alder Restaurant was quite a high-end restaurant. Eleanor had been there a few times, but she didn’t like it because it didn’t suit her taste. Fortunately, it wasn’t far from the agency.
After passing three blocks, she quickly arrived at the restaurant. Eleanor carefully peered inside the restaurant through the glass window. After doing this kind of thing a few times, the actions came naturally.
Soon, she saw Mrs. Artina’s husband, whom Pitty had shown her. He had a very long mustache that was so long it was distracting. In front of him sat a rather young woman.
It was too obvious a situation. Eleanor immediately went into a secluded alley. First, she had to drink the invisibility potion.
The invisibility potion was Eleanor’s most prized possession. It was useful not only for this kind of work but also for hunting treasures.
The invisibility potion was a potion that made the body transparent, as the name suggested, and it was developed by Eleanor’s mother. Eleanor’s mother was concerned that this potion would be misused, so she threw away the recipe, but Eleanor secretly kept it.
She thought this potion was far superior to Kikid Cream. Almost everything had been successful so far, and it was no exaggeration to say it was thanks to this potion.
The invisibility potion made the body transparent for 3 minutes, but Eleanor carried several, so time wasn’t an issue. It was just annoying to check the time.
Eleanor checked about three invisibility potions in her pocket and drank the potion. Soon, her whole body became completely transparent and she came out. Eleanor naturally entered, following someone who was entering the restaurant.
Soft music was playing. Eleanor casually passed by people and took out the spider-shaped device. She sat down in a place out of sight and filmed Mrs. Artina’s husband cheating. It was a method of controlling the spider-shaped device to go to the other person and take pictures of the scene on its own.
The work was easy. Soon, when enough evidence was taken, Eleanor carefully controlled the device to come to her. And as soon as it was completely in her hand, she got up from her seat.
Fortunately, everyone paid no attention to Eleanor. She was about to leave the restaurant like that. Someone was entering the restaurant.
It was someone she had seen often. He was quite old and frowning.
‘The Crown Prince’s secretary?’
He was the one who had come to request on behalf of the Crown Prince to bring back the treasure that was originally in the Imperial Palace. He seemed to do secret things often, but what was he doing here?
Eleanor suddenly checked the time. Almost 3 minutes had passed. She familiarly drank the invisibility potion again.
And followed the Crown Prince’s secretary.
In a way, the reason she became suspicious of her husband was also because of the Crown Prince’s treasure request. The agency’s work started to go wrong after that. Moreover, there was still time left, and above all, she felt strangely confident when she drank this invisibility potion.
It was the same even now. She was naturally following the Crown Prince’s secretary.
The secretary stopped in a hallway in the restaurant. There was a fancy door in front of it. It was a room for guests who didn’t want to reveal their private matters. Soon the door opened and Eleanor moved her feet faster than anyone else.
Her body slightly touched the door, but no one suspected anything. Eleanor checked the person sitting in front.
He was younger than the Crown Prince’s secretary and was a nobleman she occasionally saw at banquets. He was one of the people who assisted the Emperor. He always had a stern face, but now he was sweating on his forehead as if he was anxious.
Then the person slowly stood up and said.
“Oh, you’ve arrived?”
“Sit down. So, has the situation gotten worse since then?”
The Crown Prince’s secretary said as soon as he sat down. The person sitting in front wiped the sweat from his forehead as soon as he heard those words and hurriedly opened his mouth.
“Yes, coincidentally, His Majesty the Emperor’s health has gotten worse. I don’t know how this happened.”
The aide shook his head with a serious expression.
“Why is he getting worse even though we found the treasure? Did they find out about our plan?”
At the sharp words, the aide’s eyes widened and he stammered.
“I, I don’t know yet. They move so quietly. And would they even know about that?”
