My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 4
Just then, Dreid said,
“Then I’ll look into it.”
“Into what?”
“The person who’s interfering with your work. Since you say it’s so hard for you.”
“No, that’s…”
“You must be busy with your own work, so leave things like that to me and don’t worry about it.”
“Aren’t you busy too?”
“Even if I’m busy, I can handle that much.”
Dreid smiled gently. His subtly low voice resonated in Eleanor’s ears.
Eleanor felt like something was going strangely wrong. It felt like things were bouncing off in an unexpected direction.
She lowered her gaze from Dreid and looked at the remaining food in front of her. The pasta she hadn’t finished was almost cold. The pasta noodles in the white bowl were neither full nor completely empty.
Somehow, she felt uneasy and ominous. She couldn’t very well tell him to back off now. Eleanor put down her fork, feeling frustrated.
Perhaps noticing that Eleanor was still looking at him, Dreid leisurely swirled his wine glass and said,
“Eleanor, are you finished eating?”
Now that her hunger was somewhat appeased, she didn’t want to eat any more. Normally, she would have eaten most of the food on the table, but now she didn’t feel like eating at all.
“Yes. I enjoyed the meal.”
Eleanor managed a smile as she spoke. As soon as she answered, Dreid stood up without hesitation.
Eleanor glanced at his plate. The pasta noodles were barely touched. He seemed to have eaten even less than she had.
“Aren’t you going to eat more?”
Eleanor asked worriedly, and Dreid grinned.
“I told you earlier, I’m full just looking at you.”
He casually walked over to Eleanor’s side and took her plate. In an instant, her front was empty.
Eleanor immediately stood up and stood next to Dreid.
“…Aren’t you really hungry?”
Dreid turned his head slightly towards Eleanor in front of the sink. He seemed quite pleased to hear those words.
“Eleanor. I always eat lightly in the evening. Sometimes I don’t eat at all.”
Eleanor was at a loss for words. She couldn’t remember whether Dreid ate a lot or a little for dinner while they had been eating together.
No, she might not have eaten at all.
Eleanor wondered if she had really been uninterested in Dreid all this time. But rather than being uninterested, it was more like she was just talking to him while eating and didn’t see how much he ate.
Suddenly, Eleanor felt sorry for Dreid. It was ridiculous how excuses kept forming in her head.
Eleanor cautiously looked at Dreid. He seemed to understand Eleanor’s feelings and chuckled.
“Now you’re paying attention to me.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s nothing. Eleanor, relax in the living room for a while. I’ll take care of the cleanup.”
Dreid turned around and took the various uneaten dishes to the sink. Eleanor stared at him for a moment, then grabbed his arm.
“I’ll help too.”
Dreid paused for a moment. A silent atmosphere flowed for a moment.
Eleanor slowly raised her head. His bright blue eyes were right in front of her. A thick heat touched her lips. In response, the sound of his breathing was vividly felt in her ear.
Dreid chuckled and slowly kissed Eleanor on the cheek.
His lips, which fell slightly, were so soft that Eleanor stood there blankly for a moment. He gently took Eleanor’s hand.
“It’s okay. Just relax. You’re already having a hard time these days because someone is interfering with your work.”
Dreid’s words seemed to strangely stick in her mind. Eleanor slowly let go of his arm. Dreid smiled brightly and began to clear the table again.
Eleanor looked at Dreid with a sullen feeling and left the kitchen. The living room and kitchen were almost adjacent. As she walked that short distance, Eleanor felt strangely unfamiliar with this place. It was as if it wasn’t the world she knew.
‘Was I really that uninterested in Dreid?’
That was shocking. No, but I loved Dreid, didn’t I? Even now, Eleanor’s feelings for Dreid were still there. Although it was doubtful. Still, that feeling hadn’t completely disappeared yet.
Eleanor sat blankly on the living room sofa. She hadn’t realized that she had been uninterested in Dreid while living with him.
‘No, was I really uninterested?’
When she thought about it, she couldn’t easily recall what foods Dreid liked or disliked. But Dreid didn’t have strong preferences, and he said he liked everything Eleanor liked.
Yes, it’s because Dreid didn’t tell me properly.
Then what about dinner?
Now that she thought about it, it seemed like Dreid didn’t eat much for dinner. What seemed so natural back then now seemed particularly noticeable. Eleanor let out a faint sigh. Everything felt unfamiliar.
‘What on earth is Dreid thinking? What does that mean?’
Eleanor covered her head. The words Dreid had said earlier lingered in her mind. He said that Eleanor was finally paying attention to him.
But Eleanor had never neglected Dreid. On his birthday, she would give him even a small gift, even if she couldn’t earn money because she had no commissions, and she always spent time with him.
Eleanor slowly raised her head. In the center of the living room was a swan-shaped glass craft. Dreid had given it to Eleanor as a gift on her last birthday. It was a bigger gift than anything Eleanor had given him.
Eleanor quickly looked around. On the mantelpiece and windowsill, there were more glass crafts that Dreid had given her than the ones Eleanor had bought.
Eleanor bit her lip. Dreid always gave Eleanor bigger gifts, spent more time, and was more considerate.
It was a fact that was too natural to even think about back then.
Why is this fact only visible now? At this point when Dreid seems to be interfering with her work.
And Dreid, who always took care of her, even told Eleanor to quit her job.
‘What’s his ulterior motive?’
Why on earth? Eleanor fidgeted with her hands. It was a habit she had when she was nervous or had a lot on her mind.
“Eleanor.”
Eleanor was startled by the sound of someone calling her and raised her head. Dreid was leaning against the living room doorway, arms crossed, looking at Eleanor.
“When did you get here?”
“Just now.”
Dreid unfolded his arms and slowly approached, naturally sitting next to Eleanor. Eleanor scooted over slightly as he came. Dreid stared at the slight gap between them for a moment.
“What’s wrong?”
When Eleanor spoke, he raised his head and gave a soft smile. Then, he stared at Eleanor for a moment before slowly raising his hand and touching her cheek.
Eleanor was flustered and blinked as she looked at him.
“Eleanor, don’t worry too much.”
When Eleanor asked with a look, Dreid smiled brightly and said.
“The person who’s interfering with your work. I’ll take care of it.”
Eleanor lowered her gaze for a moment, then looked at him and said.
“…What if that person is close to us?”
Dreid’s lips curved smoothly upwards. He looked at Eleanor and said.
“What should we do?”
Eleanor was flustered by the question, and Dreid gave a strange smile.
Eleanor stared at him blankly.
It was similar to the smile he had when she first saw him at the glass craft store. It was when she thought that beauty could be a weapon.
Dreid gently held Eleanor’s hand on his knee.
“I’ll do as you wish.”
A pleasant voice resonated in Eleanor’s ears. Eleanor instinctively felt that she should get up from her seat now. It felt like warning bells were ringing in her head.
But she couldn’t. She felt firmly bound to him. She could have shaken off his hand and gotten up, but she couldn’t. It wasn’t like Dreid was holding her hand tightly.
Dreid held Eleanor’s hand and moved closer to her. The distance between them, which had been slightly apart, disappeared in an instant. His firm thigh touched hers.
Dreid was still holding Eleanor’s hand. He wasn’t holding it tightly, just gently grasping it.
Eleanor could feel his warmth as it was. Her hand, which had been trembling anxiously, seemed to have found warmth thanks to his hand.
But Eleanor was still suspicious of him. Just as Eleanor was about to pull her hand away, Dreid gently stroked the back of Eleanor’s hand with his thumb. His hand strength felt subtly stronger than before.
“Dreid.”
When Eleanor spoke, he gently made eye contact with Eleanor. His bright blue eyes looked particularly deep. He slowly opened his mouth.
“What’s wrong?”
“…Is today a special day? You even let Mrs. Beckade leave work early.”
Eleanor said with a forced smile. At the same time, she tried to move away from him slightly, but Dreid pulled her hand closer.
In an instant, Eleanor’s face was closer to his face. Eleanor was slightly flustered and looked at Dreid’s hand.
“Eleanor.”
At his words, Eleanor raised her head. He seemed to pause for a moment before saying.
“What do you think about us having a baby?”
“A baby?”
Dreid smiled and nodded.
Eleanor was quite surprised. A baby. She had vaguely thought about it since she married him, but she didn’t know what to do when the topic came up so suddenly.
Then Dreid’s voice was heard.
“…Do you not want to?”
Eleanor was still flustered and only blinked. She couldn’t make eye contact with him.
“Our plan is…”
“I was going to wait until your work was stable before having one, but I’m getting impatient.”
Dreid was still smiling, but there was impatience in his eyes, as he said. It was a look that seemed to lack something, a look that yearned for something more.
“Why on earth…”
As Eleanor hesitated, Dreid came so close to Eleanor’s lips that they almost touched and said.
“I just want to see a baby who looks like you and me soon.”
Dreid’s breath was felt right in front of her. Eleanor placed her hand on the sofa. Her damp palm touched the sofa.
Eleanor managed a smile.
“I still want to work more.”
As she said that, she turned her face slightly away from Dreid. His body seemed to stiffen and pause. But Eleanor couldn’t get up right away.
Before she knew it, his arms were blocking Eleanor’s body.
