My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 34
“So, you’re saying my husband is the Emperor’s illegitimate son?”
Pitty nodded. Then, as if adding to it, she said,
“Based on the information I’ve gathered so far, yes.”
Eleanor blinked for a moment. Why hadn’t she been told that? She was puzzled. Couldn’t she at least have been told that he was the Emperor’s illegitimate son?
As Eleanor was lost in thought, Pitty spoke cautiously.
“Um, shall we try tracking it again with your magic orb? It’s possible the tracking was mistaken.”
“No. That’s unlikely. Even if we track it again, the result will be the same.”
Eleanor was certain. While magic orbs sometimes collected incorrect information, it was rare. Moreover, in this case, it seemed unlikely that the fact of Dreid being the Emperor’s illegitimate son would change.
Above all, it seemed more plausible considering the position Dreid held at Finn Bank. He had even revealed himself that he wasn’t a mere junior banker.
Just then, the phone rang. Pitty answered it casually. Eleanor looked around, checking if there was anything to tidy up.
Then, after finishing the call, Pitty said to Eleanor.
“Ms. Eleanor, the evidence submitted to the court has been successfully filed.”
Hearing that, Eleanor felt a sense of emptiness. Then a question arose.
‘Did the Crown Prince give up trying to interfere with this? Or did Dreid pull some strings?’
No matter how she thought about it, it didn’t seem like the Crown Prince’s doing. Given Dreid’s actions so far, it felt like the Crown Prince would pose a more significant threat in the future.
Either way, it was a relief that the matter was concluded.
Eleanor tidied up some papers that caught her eye. There was quite a lot of them. Then, feeling that Pitty must have gone through a lot of trouble, she turned her head and said,
“Pitty, you’ve worked hard. I know it must have been very difficult because of that.”
“No, it’s alright. It was my job anyway. By the way, why that…?”
Pitty gestured to the pile of documents Eleanor was holding.
“Ah, I should have told you earlier…”
Eleanor let out a faint sigh. If she were to close the agency for a while, Pitty wouldn’t be able to come here anymore. Eleanor paused for a moment before speaking. It was better to say it quickly.
“Pitty, I’m sorry, but I’m planning to close the agency for a while.”
“What? Close it?”
Pitty looked more surprised than Eleanor expected. Perhaps it was natural. It was clearly a sudden situation.
“Well, I’m in a difficult situation right now. The reason my agency’s work was being interfered with is also related to me taking a break.”
“Then are you alright, Ms. Eleanor?”
“I’m alright for now. Most importantly, I have Dreid.”
Eleanor felt reassured by Dreid’s presence. Then, she suddenly realized how dangerous the situation was. Above all, because he was the Emperor’s son, the Crown Prince seemed to be threatening Eleanor to this extent.
Is that why he’s deliberately not revealing that Dreid is the Emperor’s illegitimate son?
It seemed plausible when she thought about it. But why he wouldn’t reveal it even to her was still incomprehensible. Eleanor decided to ask Dreid as soon as she returned to the mansion.
Now that Dreid was telling her everything, there was no reason to hesitate.
“Ms. Eleanor, then when will you reopen the agency?”
Pitty asked with great regret. Eleanor couldn’t give a definite answer. She felt regret too, but she didn’t know when the situation would resolve.
“I don’t know either. But don’t worry too much. One of the agencies I know said they were looking for one more person. They’ll be happy to have you. If you don’t want to go there, you don’t have to. Or I can look for other places for you.”
“Ms. Eleanor, I…”
Pitty started to speak but then closed her mouth. She seemed very perplexed by the situation.
“Pitty, you’ve worked very hard.”
Eleanor said with a smile. Pitty’s face crumpled even more at that smile. Soon, she started to cry.
“Pitty, are you alright?”
Eleanor, flustered, approached Pitty.
“Ms. Eleanor, I knew I would have to be independent someday, but I didn’t expect it to happen so suddenly.”
Pitty sniffled, wiping her tears with the sleeve of her shirt. Even so, tears continued to stream down her cheeks.
Eleanor felt bad. Honestly, it was hard to find an assistant like Pitty. She was good at her job and quite perceptive, someone who understood Eleanor without needing to be told.
“Ms. Eleanor, you don’t have to worry about my job. I’m already grateful for how well you’ve always treated me.”
“No. You must be very flustered by this sudden turn of events.”
Pitty lowered her head for a moment and sniffled. Eleanor waited for Pitty to compose herself, then gently put her arm around her heaving shoulders.
Soon, Pitty carefully lifted her head. There were still tear stains, but she seemed to be holding back her tears, as they weren’t flowing anymore. Pitty wiped her tears as if nothing had happened and said,
“Since it’s come to this, I’ll find my own path too.”
Eleanor cautiously asked, surprised by her resolute words.
“Will you be alright?”
“Yes, I learned a lot under you, Ms. Eleanor. It’s sudden, but I think it’s time for me to be independent.”
Pitty spoke brightly, which both reassured and worried Eleanor.
“You’re not just saying that because of me, are you?”
“Honestly, I’m very disappointed. But there’s nothing we can do. You’ve had a lot of trouble too, Ms. Eleanor. I think it’s best to close the agency for a while, from my perspective too.”
Eleanor had no choice but to nod. She was grateful for Pitty’s understanding, yet inwardly disappointed.
“Ms. Eleanor, shall I help you pack?”
Pitty said cheerfully, having finally stopped crying. Eleanor looked at the things to be packed. She could do it alone, but somehow, packing with Pitty felt right this time. After all, they had little time left to work together.
“Then, could you help a little?”
When Eleanor said that, Pitty smiled and nodded.
As they packed, it was suddenly closing time. Eleanor did a final rough tidy-up and looked around. Pitty seemed to have mixed feelings, remaining quiet.
“Pitty, you’ve worked hard. You can go now.”
Pitty looked at her watch and said with a surprised expression.
“It’s not time yet…”
“There’s no more work to do anyway.”
It was an obvious statement, but after saying it, Eleanor felt a sense of bitterness.
“Ms. Eleanor, thank you for everything.”
Pitty said, forcing a smile.
“Thank you too. This agency wouldn’t have run without me. You were a great help, organizing information and doing your work so well.”
“No, rather, you helped me a lot.”
Eleanor smiled brightly. Pitty glanced around for a moment, then spoke with resolve.
“Then, Ms. Eleanor, I’ll be going now.”
“If you open your own agency later, contact me. I’ll definitely visit.”
“Yes, I’ll be sure to contact you! You’re always welcome, Ms. Eleanor.”
With that, Pitty stood at the door. Pitty looked around for a moment, then said with a smile.
“I think I’ll miss this place a lot.”
“Me too.”
Eleanor felt the same. She thought she would miss this place for a while.
‘What will I do if I quit this?’
Just staying at the mansion felt like torture. Just then, Pitty spoke.
“Well then…”
Eleanor shook off her thoughts and smiled.
“Goodbye.”
Pitty nodded, said goodbye, and walked out the door. The cheerful sound of the door closing somehow felt lonely. Eleanor gazed at the swaying door for a moment, then turned her head. It was Eleanor’s turn to leave now.
She had no luggage to take, but she did pick up the broken magic orb. She planned to assemble or fix it if she got bored. After packing what she needed, she stepped outside.
Eleanor stood outside, looking at the agency for a long time. A sigh escaped her lips.
‘When will I find another assistant like Pitty again…?’
There was no set date for when she would reopen. It truly hit her then that Dreid was in quite a dangerous situation. Even though he showed no signs of it.
“Eleanor, are you finished?”
At the sudden voice, she turned her head to see Dreid standing there.
“When did you get here?”
“Just now.”
Eleanor looked at the carriage behind Dreid. It was clean, considering he had just arrived. It looked as if it had been waiting there all along. As Eleanor looked at the carriage with suspicion, Dreid gently took her hand.
“Eleanor, let’s go now.”
Dreid clasped Eleanor’s hand. Eleanor followed him and got into the carriage. The carriage soon departed.
Eleanor looked at Dreid. He sat opposite her, watching her gaze with interest. Looking at him, Eleanor suddenly had a question.
‘Why didn’t he tell me he was the Emperor’s illegitimate son? Was it because I didn’t ask?’
Just then, Dreid spoke.
“Eleanor, did something happen at the agency?”
Dreid’s words reminded Eleanor of the notification that the evidence submitted to the court had been successfully filed. Perhaps that matter was Dreid’s doing.
“Dreid, the evidence our agency submitted was successfully filed. My work was being interfered with all this time, and only now has it been done.”
Eleanor gave a bitter smile.
“That’s good.”
“You were the one who worked on it, weren’t you? The evidence couldn’t be submitted for all sorts of reasons until now.”
Dreid nodded. Eleanor wasn’t very surprised, as she had already expected it.
“Thank you. For going to such lengths.”
“No, you’re the one who suffered all this time.”
She had indeed suffered a lot. Her agency’s work was being interfered with for reasons she didn’t know. So, it was clear that Dreid had interfered with the agency’s work. All evidence pointed to Dreid.
But strangely, she didn’t feel certain now. Dreid had explained it to her last time, but she felt she hadn’t received a clear answer.
Eleanor slowly opened her mouth.
“Dreid, then was the Crown Prince interfering with my work all this time?”
“The Crown Prince isn’t that smart. He doesn’t have that kind of power either.”
Dreid’s expression as he said that felt strangely unfamiliar.
