My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 33
He spoke in considerable detail. In a way, Dreid’s attitude and heart seemed unchanged from before. More than anything, the fact that he told her everything made Eleanor feel inexplicably more lenient.
And she could vaguely understand what Dreid must have been feeling at the time. Dreid remembered the past, but Eleanor hadn’t known…
No, wouldn’t it have been better to say he saw her as a child? That thought suddenly occurred to her.
Eleanor looked at Dreid with questioning eyes and said,
“Dreid, then why didn’t you reveal everything back then? You said you first saw me as a child. If you had, I think I would have remembered somehow and we could have had a more enjoyable conversation.”
“Back then, I looked different from before, and I wanted to approach you a little differently.”
“Why?”
“Because I wanted to start anew.”
“But we didn’t part on particularly bad terms when we were children, did we? Even though my family fell apart afterward.”
“That was why. Because your family fell apart like that, I thought it wouldn’t be good for you to recall the past.”
Dreid’s words calmed Eleanor’s heart. Ironically, after giving Dreid the Kikid Cream, everything had turned for the worse.
“Dreid, so you knew about my family’s ruin too?”
Dreid’s expression wasn’t good. He furrowed his brow for a moment before speaking slowly.
“I heard rumors.”
Dreid also didn’t seem to like recalling the past. Eleanor nodded. Indeed, that period was filled with painful memories.
Eleanor unconsciously scrunched up her face. As if noticing it, Dreid said,
“Eleanor, are you really alright?”
At his words, Eleanor looked up and met Dreid’s gaze. He looked slightly worried. Eleanor seemed to think for a moment before opening her mouth.
“After all, I went into that situation with somewhat impure intentions back then. And even if you were just a junior bank clerk, I would have been fine.”
Which meant, if Dreid had told her the truth earlier, she wouldn’t have acted so frantically at Delfos. Eleanor recalled the events at Alferno Cafe the other day and let out a faint sigh.
Then she put down her fork. She had already finished her salad and was reasonably full.
“Are you done eating?”
Dreid, perhaps having already noticed her state, asked lightly. Eleanor nodded and stood up.
Dreid also stood up, following Eleanor. He skillfully cleared the dishes and tidied up the food on the table. Eleanor helped him by placing the dishes in the sink.
The cleanup was almost finished.
“Eleanor.”
When Dreid called her, Eleanor turned towards him. As their eyes met, Dreid said,
“You still haven’t answered me.”
“Answered what?”
“About your work.”
“Ah…”
It was about the agency. Since Dreid was worried, Eleanor finally had to make a decision. She had hesitated earlier and couldn’t bring herself to speak.
Dreid maintained eye contact persistently. Eleanor thought carefully and finally opened her mouth.
“It’s difficult to quit entirely. I don’t particularly like digging into other people’s affairs, but the treasure-hunting requests were what I used to do.”
The reason she became a treasure hunter in the first place was to easily find her family’s necklace. Although the work was hard, she continued with the belief that she could find it by doing such things. She couldn’t just quit when she hadn’t even found the necklace yet.
Of course, she was also searching using magic orbs at the mansion, but there was still no news. Eleanor looked at him for a moment. He had a calm expression, as if waiting for her next words.
Eleanor hesitated, looking at Dreid. The Crown Prince was now posing a threat even to her. Dreid was worried about that. Eleanor didn’t want Dreid to worry because of her, nor did she want to cause him such concern.
Finally, Eleanor opened her mouth again.
“That work…”
But the next words wouldn’t come easily. As Eleanor hesitated, Dreid took her hand. She felt its warmth and was inexplicably reassured. Eleanor took a breath and then spoke.
“I’ll take a break from it for now.”
At her words, Dreid smiled.
“That’s a good decision.”
Dreid seemed satisfied with Eleanor’s words. After all, Dreid must have worried a lot during this time. Eleanor, thinking about taking a break from work, added as if it were an afterthought,
“I plan to go to the agency today to sort out some things and tell Pitty.”
“Then I’ll go with you.”
Dreid said lightly, as if it were a daily routine. But Eleanor looked at him with surprised eyes. Dreid had never gone to the agency with her before.
“Why?”
“Because it might be dangerous.”
Even as he said that, Dreid smiled as if it were no big deal. That made Eleanor even more puzzled. She wondered if it was really that dangerous.
But she dismissed her doubts. Now that Dreid had told her everything, she was tired of suspecting him.
“Let’s go, Eleanor.”
Dreid gently took Eleanor’s hand. Eleanor took his hand and followed him out.
【 Eve 】
“I usually take the tram…”
When they went outside, there was a carriage.
“You never know if there might be dangerous people.”
Dreid was right. But she had enjoyed the wind in her hair while riding the tram so much that she regretted giving it up so easily.
That was partly why she had avoided taking carriages. Occasionally, Dreid had told her to take a carriage, but Eleanor had lightly refused.
After all, whether she took the tram or the carriage, the time was the same, and she simply enjoyed riding the tram more.
“Eleanor.”
Dreid said as he opened the carriage door. He was waiting for Eleanor to get in.
‘It’s a shame, but what can I do?’
Reluctantly, Eleanor got into the carriage. The interior was quite luxurious. It was different from the one she had ridden in Delfos. This was Dreid’s usual carriage. Eleanor had ridden it a few times before, but not very often. She only rode it occasionally for balls or important events.
Just then, Dreid entered the carriage. Soon, the carriage started moving.
The carriage arrived at the agency in no time. It wasn’t far from the mansion, so it didn’t take long.
“Then I’ll be going.”
As Eleanor got out of the carriage, Dreid followed.
“You didn’t have to get out.”
“I’ll just watch you go inside.”
Dreid leaned against the carriage, arms casually crossed. Eleanor felt somewhat reluctant. Until now, she hadn’t felt any particular threat. Of course, her work had been interrupted before, but not to the extent that Dreid would do this.
‘Is the Crown Prince really going to start threatening me now…?’
Dreid’s actions made her think so. Before opening the agency door, Eleanor looked back. Dreid was still standing there.
As their eyes met, he smiled faintly. A few people passing by glanced back. He seemed unconcerned by them, his gaze fixed only on Eleanor.
Eleanor also smiled and turned around. In any case, she was grateful and felt reassured by Dreid’s protection. If possible, Eleanor decided she should sort things out at the agency quickly. After all, she wasn’t quitting entirely; she was just taking a break before the Crown Prince’s threat escalated.
She still felt a sense of regret, but thinking about it, it was unavoidable.
“You’re here early!”
As Eleanor opened the door and entered, Pitty greeted her cheerfully.
“Has everything been alright?”
Eleanor looked around, wondering if anything had happened in her absence. But the agency was just as she had left it.
“Nothing much has happened at the agency. However, there was a disturbance near the library. They say they even used guns.”
“They used guns?”
As Eleanor asked in surprise, Pitty shook her head as if it were no big deal and said,
“But it was quickly suppressed. Apparently, the investigation officers were there at the time.”
The library was close to Finn Bank. What could have happened? Eleanor unconsciously frowned. Just then, Pitty asked,
“By the way, did you have a good trip?”
At the question, Eleanor snapped out of her thoughts, hesitated for a moment, and replied,
“Ah, yes.”
“Ms. Eleanor, did things work out well?”
Pitty asked cautiously, and Eleanor nodded. Dreid had told her everything, and their misunderstandings were resolved. However, there was one thing that bothered her.
“Has Mackiv contacted you at all?”
“Mackiv?”
“Yes, we went to Delfos together, but he disappeared at some point.”
“Mackiv suddenly disappeared?”
Pitty looked noticeably surprised.
“Why? Did you hear anything?”
“I haven’t heard anything. But Mackiv isn’t the type to just disappear. He’d say something before going anywhere…”
Pitty said, tilting her head. Eleanor felt the same. Although she hadn’t known him for long, Mackiv didn’t seem like someone who would disappear without a word.
Just then, Pitty asked,
“Did he leave any notes, perhaps?”
Eleanor shook her head. She hadn’t seen any notes. Come to think of it, things had seemed strange since that night. She remembered dozing off while eavesdropping on Dreid and waking up. Thinking back now, the room had seemed unusually quiet then. Something felt unsettling.
“Ah, and Ms. Eleanor, I’ve been tracking Finn Bank using the magic orb Mackiv gave me.”
Eleanor looked up at the mention of Finn Bank. But Pitty hesitated, having brought it up first.
“Did you find anything?”
Eleanor asked, and Pitty slowly nodded.
“Yes, perhaps because Mackiv is such a skilled technician, some information was found. I couldn’t find anything when I tried before…”
“What was it?”
Eleanor asked, wondering if there was information Dreid hadn’t told her. After all, he had told her everything, but she still couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling.
Pitty seemed to gauge her reaction for a moment before speaking calmly.
“Dreid owned all the shares in Finn Bank.”
