My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
“Some things sound very mystical, but quite a few have been passed down.”
Jiang Yingyue was about to explain further when a knock suddenly sounded at the door. Both of them stopped and looked towards the door.
A young woman pushed the door open and entered. It was the child’s mother.
She gently closed the door, then smiled a little sheepishly. Just as she was about to speak, she saw Jiang Yingyue in the room and immediately widened her eyes: “How did you know I was here?”
Jiang Yingyue was also a little surprised to meet her here.
Seeing that they knew each other, Xia Xingye immediately grew suspicious. She subtly and quietly held Jiang Yingyue’s hand.
Although this woman was married, her coincident appearance here and knowing Jiang Yingyue was a bit strange. She hadn’t heard of Jiang Yingyue having any acquaintances.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t have friends, but Xiao Jiang had said that Jiang Yingyue preferred to be alone and didn’t like dealing with people. Xia Xingye looked at the woman with a heightened sense of vigilance.
Jiang Yingyue looked down and saw Xia Xingye’s expression, then smiled and introduced: “This is Bi Yuzhu, the person I just mentioned who was cursed with a love spell.”
Xia Xingye finally realized: “Ah, is that the person you just mentioned?”
Jiang Yingyue nodded. Bi Yuzhu had already stepped forward gratefully, bowing repeatedly and thanking her: “Thank you so much!”
Jiang Yingyue waved her hand: “No need to thank me. You should go and rest, don’t overwork yourself.”
“I’m fine,” Bi Yuzhu smiled gently, “After you helped me, I feel much better.”
She felt that she was already cured, so Jiang Yingyue didn’t say anything more.
It was Bi Yuzhu who initiated the conversation with Xia Xingye: “So you two know each other. I should have invited both of you to my house for a meal earlier.”
She asked with concern, “By the way, what did the doctor say?”
“The doctor said I’m fine.” Although Xia Xingye was reluctant to be discharged so quickly, she still told the truth.
If she said her condition was serious, Bi Yuzhu might directly give her one hundred thousand to do more check-ups.
Although Xia Xingye liked money—no one in this world disliked money—she always earned it honestly and didn’t want to take money from Bi Yuzhu through deception, especially since she wasn’t short of money.
“Today isn’t over yet, you can invite us to eat.” Xia Xingye said after thinking for a moment, “Just a casual meal is fine.”
Bi Yuzhu agreed without hesitation: “Okay, but I need to make a phone call first.”
When she came back after the call, she suddenly asked, “Did you say something to my child?”
She explained with a little embarrassment, “He can be a bit naughty, but his nature is not bad.”
Afraid that Xia Xingye wouldn’t believe her, she added, “He often helps other classmates at school. Some boys would pull girls’ pigtails, but my child would step in to stop it. Now no one bullies those girls anymore.”
Xia Xingye listened and felt that the child was somewhat reliable, but still couldn’t help but remind her: “His temper is a bit odd. You and your husband should pay more attention to him and not just focus on dating.”
Bi Yuzhu’s face flushed, and she nodded: “Okay, thank you for the reminder.”
Bi Yuzhu had absolutely no airs, always smiling no matter what Xia Xingye said.
It made sense; she hadn’t gotten angry even when her child caused trouble earlier. Her personality was too gentle. Fortunately, her husband seemed good. If she had met a bad person, she would have been eaten alive.
“How about coming to my place for a late-night snack?” Bi Yuzhu suggested.
Xia Xingye looked to Jiang Yingyue for a decision. She didn’t mind where they went, but it depended on whether Jiang Yingyue was willing to go.
Jiang Yingyue naturally had no objection, so it was settled that they would go to Bi Yuzhu’s house for a late-night snack.
Bi Yuzhu left the hospital early, repeatedly telling them before she left: “If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, you must say so. Don’t worry about the money; physical health is the most important thing.”
Xia Xingye didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Of course, she knew health was important, but she felt Bi Yuzhu was a bit overly dramatic.
As if sensing Xia Xingye’s confusion, Jiang Yingyue explained after Bi Yuzhu left: “She used to be a dancer.”
Xia Xingye didn’t understand why Jiang Yingyue suddenly brought up Bi Yuzhu’s background, but she listened carefully nonetheless.
“Doesn’t her name sound familiar to you?” Jiang Yingyue asked.
Xia Xingye pondered for a couple of seconds, then suddenly widened her eyes. She had indeed heard that name. It was the name of a dancer who was close to becoming the national principal dancer but suddenly disappeared without a trace.
There were many rumors circulating. Some said she married into a wealthy family for love, and some said she was injured and couldn’t continue dancing.
Xia Xingye recalled Bi Yuzhu’s generosity with money and asked curiously: “Did she really give up her career for love?”
Jiang Yingyue gently shook her head: “Marrying into a wealthy family is true, and giving up her career is also true, but she didn’t give up her career because of marriage. She got married because she couldn’t continue her career.”
“She is worried about your health.”
Xia Xingye nodded in understanding. Having suffered herself, she was concerned that Xia Xingye would follow in her footsteps, so she cared deeply about how serious her injury was and worried that she would have lasting effects.
Just then, a nurse came to ask if they wanted to proceed with the discharge.
Xia Xingye was about to get out of bed when Jiang Yingyue asked with concern: “Are you okay?”
Xia Xingye quickly said: “It hurt a little before, but it doesn’t hurt anymore.”
With Bi Yuzhu present, the check-up report was clear, so lying was pointless.
“I’ll stew some more soup for you when we get back.”
“Great!” Xia Xingye’s eyes lit up, and she jumped out of bed.
Jiang Yingyue didn’t suspect anything, just reminded her: “Don’t rush, take it easy.”
Xia Xingye blinked at Jiang Yingyue: “You’re so good to me.”
“You are good to me too,” Jiang Yingyue responded softly.
After completing the discharge procedures, on the way to Bi Yuzhu’s house, Jiang Yingyue continued at Xia Xingye’s request: “They knew each other since childhood, childhood sweethearts. Her husband proposed when they graduated, but she refused, saying she wanted to continue dancing.”
Xia Xingye asked hesitantly: “Could it be that he did something that caused her to be unable to dance?”
“Why would you think that?” Jiang Yingyue chuckled, “This isn’t a TV drama. A man who truly loves her would never bear to make her give up her career, nor would he bear to make her sad.”
Xia Xingye thought about it and felt it made sense. Just like how she was worried about the dangers of Jiang Yingyue’s job, but seeing that Jiang Yingyue enjoyed it, she ultimately didn’t truly stop her, only concerned about her safety.
Dancing wasn’t dangerous. Bi Yuzhu’s husband had no reason—
Wait a minute! Xia Xingye stopped thinking, suddenly widening her eyes. Why was she comparing her relationship with Jiang Yingyue to Bi Yuzhu and her husband’s?
They were completely different things.
“What’s wrong? Do you think it’s impossible?” Jiang Yingyue asked, seeing her look of shock.
“N-no,” Xia Xingye snapped back to reality, quickly shaking her head, “I was thinking about something else just now.”
Forcing herself to stop the wild thoughts, Xia Xingye changed the subject and asked: “Then how did she get cursed with a love spell? Who put the spell on her?”
“Do you want to hear me talk about it, or see it for yourself?” Jiang Yingyue asked after thinking for a moment.
Xia Xingye blinked: “Hasn’t it already been resolved? Can I still see it for myself?”
“You can,” Jiang Yingyue said, “You’ll know when we get to her house.”
She had only heard about Gu (a type of curse or black magic often translated as a “love spell” in the context of this chapter) in TV dramas and novels, and this was the first time she had encountered it in real life. Xia Xingye naturally wanted to see it with her own eyes: “Then I want to see it for myself!”
Along the way, Xia Xingye asked about other interesting things from Jiang Yingyue’s past work. Jiang Yingyue racked her brains but couldn’t think of anything she found interesting. She finally gave up and said: “It’s all about scheming and rivalry. It’s not interesting.”
