My Ex’s White Moonlight Omega Has a Crush on Me - Chapter 9
“Teacher Ji?” the photography assistant called out as a reminder.
“The cover shoot starts in half an hour.”
Ji Tanyue sat in front of the makeup mirror, her gaze fixed on the surveillance feed on her phone screen, a faint smile gracing her red lips.
“Alright, got it.” She turned off the screen.
The photography assistant met the woman’s gentle, amused gaze and, momentarily captivated by her beauty, blushed and nodded in acknowledgment. Yet, he couldn’t help but feel a little confused.
Had Teacher Ji seen something interesting on her phone?
But when he had accidentally glanced at the screen earlier, there wasn’t a single person in sight, just a lush garden setting and a small fountain shimmering under the sunlight.
Following the directions on her phone, Chao Wan finally found the entrance to this secluded residential area.
A property staff member, dressed in a black tailcoat with white gloves clasped behind his back, bowed with utmost courtesy to see her off.
Chao Wan pretended to remain calm and didn’t look back.
But her heart was pounding with guilt.
She had really escaped.
What would Ji Tanyue think if she found out?
Would she expose Chao Wan’s secret of pretending to be an Alpha?
A faint unease lingered in her heart.
Yet, when she spotted Fu Xi’s car parked by the roadside, the window rolled down, and her friend lazily waving at her, Chao Wan couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Having been reborn into this life, it was only at this moment that she truly felt alive.
Although she now had a strange system attached to her, ever since completing the task yesterday, that mechanical voice had never reappeared in her mind.
It was so elusive.
However, as for the matter of successfully entering a romantic relationship with Ji Tanyue, Chao Wan decided to set it aside for now.
With the task completed and 2400H of life value now in her possession, she thought, she should first focus on enjoying this new life.
After getting into the car and fastening her seatbelt, Fu Xi glanced at the person in the passenger seat and asked with a smile, “Since when do you have such a wealthy friend?”
Chao Wan shook her head lightly and replied, “I just met her yesterday. She’s… a senior, you could say.”
In truth, she didn’t want to admit it at all.
What kind of senior would subtly hint at wanting to be a sugar daddy and then lock her in a room?
But Ji Tanyue’s public reputation was impeccable, she was known as a dedicated, old-school actress obsessed with her craft and beauty. Who would believe it if Chao Wan told them?
Fu Xi let out an “Oh” and didn’t press further.
As they drove onto the city’s main road, she suggested that Chao Wan go out with her to relax a bit instead of heading home right away.
Though her tone was lighthearted, Chao Wan could sense there was more to it.
The indifferent voice of Qin Siyu telling her to calm down echoed in her ears, and the messages from her aunt and the talent agency last night resurfaced in her mind.
Chao Wan knew that her absence overnight would inevitably lead to many consequences.
But none of them would be out of concern for her well-being.
Only Fu Xi, this friend, was willing to lend a hand when she was down and out. On the surface, she might seem like a carefree heiress, but her thoughts were more considerate than anyone else’s.
“Alright, don’t overthink it,” the heiress said with a smile. “I’ll take it as a yes. Let’s go get something good to eat.”
The two drove back from the suburbs to the city center, first stopping at the hotpot restaurant Chao Wan had loved most during her university days to fill their stomachs, then catching a recently released commercial comedy.
While picking up the tickets and entering the theater, Chao Wan, holding a bucket of popcorn, didn’t notice the two intimate figures brushing past her.
But Fu Xi saw them and frowned.
It was Qin Siyu.
Beside him was a charming young Omega girl.
“What’s wrong?” Chao Wan waved the two movie tickets in front of Fu Xi’s eyes.
“It’s nothing,” Fu Xi replied.
…
Two hours later, the movie ended.
The overhead lights flickered on automatically. Chao Wan rubbed her drowsy eyes and nudged Fu Xi, who was sleeping beside her with drool at the corner of her mouth.
But before she could wake Fu Xi, her peripheral vision caught a couple snuggling together in the front row.
One of the figures had a familiar silhouette.
Chao Wan froze for a moment, then lowered her gaze.
Just last night, her heart had felt crumpled with bitterness and sorrow, yet strangely, now there wasn’t even a trace of lingering attachment left.
Of course, it made sense, it was just an ex. Why cling to the past for two lifetimes?
She unblocked Qin Siyu’s number and dialed.
Almost immediately, the taller of the two women in the front row rummaged through her bag and pulled out her phone.
After a brief pause, the call connected.
“Have you calmed down now?” Qin Siyu’s voice came through the receiver, cold as ever, against a backdrop of noise.
“Yes,” Chao Wan replied quietly.
The movie had ended, and most of the audience had already left the theater.
As a result, her voice carried clearly to the front row.
Chao Wan watched as the familiar figure stood up, then slowly turned around.
With a hint of hesitation.
“I’ve made up my mind,” Chao Wan continued into the phone, her tone detached.
“Let’s break up.”
When she wasn’t smiling, her demeanor perfectly matched what an Alpha should embody, her eyes frosty, the cold curve of her lips keeping others at a distance.
Fu Xi was startled awake by the faint sound and opened her eyes, just in time to meet Qin Siyu’s disbelieving expression in the front row.
“What bad luck,” she muttered under her breath.
“Let’s go,” she tugged at Chao Wan. “This movie was a terrible choice. So awful.”
Chao Wan hummed in agreement, hung up the phone, and re-blocked Qin Siyu’s number.
As they left the cinema and headed toward the underground parking lot, Chao Wan heard her friend sigh beside her.
“Wanwan, you’ve changed,” Fu Xi observed, her tone hesitant.
“In the past, you would’ve dragged me out to drown your sorrows first.”
Chao Wan sidestepped the comment and instead asked with a faint smile, “Does this count as me dumping her this time?”
“Of course,” Fu Xi nodded, though she seemed a bit confused.
“Wait, what do you mean ‘this time’ and ‘last time’?”
“There’s only this one time,” Chao Wan chuckled.
Afterward, Fu Xi drove Chao Wan home.
“Don’t take that old woman Jing Shuran’s words to heart,” she leaned against the driver’s seat, offering advice before leaving.
Jing Shuran was Chao Wan’s aunt by marriage.
“Ugh, that vain socialite is clearly using you as a cash cow. How much did she transfer out of your account this month?”
“Not much. Besides, I have to go back eventually,” Chao Wan stood outside the car, her figure slender in the dim twilight.
“What, does Miss Fu want to take me in?”
“No way, we have a clean relationship, no sugar daddy arrangements here,” Fu Xi made a stopping gesture.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, she exclaimed, “Hey, don’t you have that senior who’s richer than me? The one you’re close enough to stay over with? Why not ask her to take you in?”
Chao Wan pursed her lips and stayed silent.
Fu Xi didn’t know that this senior was none other than the person who stood at the very pinnacle of their circle.
Ji Tanyue.
“She’s an Omega too,” Chao Wan mumbled, unsure why she said it.
“Where’s your mind at?” Fu Xi gave her a strange look. “I meant just a normal place to stay. Aren’t you two friends?”
Friends?
Chao Wan suddenly felt a wave of confusion.
The woman’s inscrutable expression, the restrained kiss on the back of her neck, and… the bedroom door locked from the outside.
The things between Ji Tanyue and her were absurd and nonsensical, how could they even be considered friends?
“It was just a coincidence. We won’t have any further interactions in the future,” Chao Wan replied.
After a moment’s thought, she let out a soft sigh and teased Fu Xi, “Boss Fu, you should head back to the shop. The night shift is probably going to be busy.”
Fu Xi ran an escape room business, which was quite large and well-known in Linnan. It wasn’t just popular among ordinary people, rumor had it that even some well-known celebrities in the industry visited to relieve stress.
“Alright, I’ll get going then. Don’t overthink the audition,” Fu Xi waved her hand.
“By the way, are you free this week? I can pick you up for a game?”
She had invited Chao Wan several times before, but Chao Wan always declined, saying she needed to accompany Qin Siyu and that she had never tried an escape room before, afraid she’d slow everyone down during the puzzles.
This time, Fu Xi didn’t hold out much hope.
But the next moment, she heard the person outside the car respond, “Sure.”
Chao Wan smiled at Fu Xi. “See you tomorrow night, no backing out.”
In her previous life, she had promised her friend to go play once, but just half an hour later, the car had crashed off a bridge and sunk in an accident, leaving her unable to fulfill that promise.
Given how Fu Xi had stayed up drinking with her until 3 a.m. in her past life, she didn’t want to refuse again this time.
“Deal!” The second-generation heiress, Miss Fu, beamed with joy. “You set the time, and I’ll pick you up. I’ll put you in a team with some pros.”
On the appointed day, Fu Xi picked up Chao Wan on time and brought her to the escape room.
The shop was located in the basement of a bustling shopping mall in the city center, taking up almost an entire floor. The place was crowded with a steady stream of people, and screens displayed introductions to various types of escape rooms.
Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Chao Wan was pulled inside by the obviously experienced Boss Fu and sat nervously in the coffee lounge.
Under the guise of enhancing the gaming experience, Fu Xi couldn’t join her and instead went to the front desk, carefully picking through teams that were short on players, shaking her head in frustration.
She walked back to Chao Wan. “Wanwan, all the teams are full. There’s only one spot left in an extreme horror theme. How about joining their group?”
Chao Wan looked confused. “…Extreme horror?”
Not quite understanding what that meant, she glanced in the direction Fu Xi indicated and saw two men and two women leaning against the counter, chatting and laughing.
One of the girls seemed familiar with the two guys, looking relaxed as she slung her arms over their shoulders.
The other woman had her back to Chao Wan, her curly hair tied into a lazy low ponytail as she filled out information at the counter.
Noticing Boss Fu looking over, the lively girl waved toward them, revealing a row of small white teeth. “Boss, is the team set?”
Chao Wan didn’t want to keep them waiting but hesitated slightly.
She would probably slow them down.
“All set!” Fu Xi responded, pushing her toward the front desk. “The team is full of experts. Don’t you trust me?”
Mumbling an acknowledgment, Chao Wan curled her fingers slightly and politely greeted the girl and the two guys beside her.
All three were Betas, as Chao Wan couldn’t sense even a hint of pheromones.
The girl was particularly chatty, taking her hand with a friendly, outgoing demeanor. The two guys were more reserved, their ears turning red after glancing at her for a moment before quickly looking away.
“All filled out,” the woman at the counter said softly, wearing a mask.
She turned around and gave a slight nod to Fu Xi. Before entering the secret room, she took out her phone and placed it in the collection basket.
The young girl and the two boys followed suit. Chao Wan, reminded by Fu Xi, also handed over her phone.
However…
She glanced at the tall, curly-haired woman who was also alone in the group and frowned slightly.
Although the woman was wearing a mask, the pair of eyes visible above it looked strikingly familiar.
