My Ex Told Me She’s Still In Love With Me - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Finale
That was the place Cheng Yi loved to kiss the most when they were in bed. As the soft, warm lips touched the corner of her eye, a tongue swept over lightly, leaving a trail of moisture.
Being so close, Meng Qingwu felt as though she could hear Cheng Yi’s heartbeat—thump, thump—racing rapidly.
She panicked slightly, remembering the pale, ashen look on Cheng Yi’s face during her medical episodes. She pushed her back, resting a hand over Cheng Yi’s chest, her brow furrowing deeply.
“Why is your heart beating so fast? Are you okay?”
Cheng Yi, pushed away, pursed her lips and said somewhat gloomily, “I’m kissing you. How could it not beat fast?”
Shouldn’t it be a problem if it wasn’t beating fast?
Hearing this, Meng Qingwu burst into laughter. She pinched Cheng Yi’s cheek and teased, “Oh, you.”
The heavy atmosphere was broken by that exchange. Looking at each other, they both couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Still drinking?” Cheng Yi asked.
Looking at the nearly empty wine glasses, Meng Qingwu chuckled. She felt as though they were both “allergic” to romantic tropes; how did such a perfect atmosphere turn into this?
“Of course. How else am I supposed to get through the night?” It was only 8:00 PM; nightlife hadn’t even begun.
Cheng Yi refilled her glass, looking at her warmly. “So, how’s your alcohol tolerance for tonight?”
So she hasn’t given up yet?
Meng Qingwu countered, “How would you like it to be?”
Cheng Yi leaned in, resting her head on Qingwu’s shoulder as if snuggling. She said softly, “I want it to be… shallow.”
“That way, you can get ‘drunk’ without having to drink too much.”
Meng Qingwu wrapped her arms around her, the smooth strands of hair winding through her palms. She couldn’t resist leaning down to plant a kiss on the top of Cheng Yi’s head, whispering a soft “Okay.”
Later that night, she did indeed “get drunk” quite easily. Through a hazy vision, she saw Cheng Yi’s figure swaying before her and reached out for an embrace. Cheng Yi leaned down to hold her, gifting her a perfect, intoxicated dream.
…
When she woke up the next morning, Meng Qingwu still felt a bit dazed. She buried her head in the quilt, smelling the scent of sunlight on the fabric and the addictive comfort that made her want to sink back into sleep.
“Are you awake?” Cheng Yi’s voice came from behind her, followed by a long, fair hand reaching over to tuck a stray lock of hair behind Qingwu’s ear.
Meng Qingwu’s gaze fixed on that hand. Although she had been “drunk” last night, her consciousness had been clear. She remembered vividly how this hand had set her heart on fire. Even seeing it now, she felt as if the flames were still spreading.
She pressed her legs together, secretly vexed that she could still feel this way after an entire night had passed!
Perhaps her silence felt unusual to Cheng Yi—especially since their legs, hidden under the covers, felt her movement. Realizing something, Cheng Yi propped herself up to peek at Meng Qingwu’s expression.
“Lie back down!” Meng Qingwu said, sounding a bit annoyed.
This only made it more obvious. Cheng Yi laughed softly, leaned down to kiss her ear, and said in a raspy morning voice, “Do you want to sleep more?”
Meng Qingwu took a deep breath to suppress the heat in her body. She tried to keep her voice level and said, “No. I have to work today.”
But her voice, even raspier than Cheng Yi’s, betrayed her. One could only imagine how “overused” her throat had been last night!
Seeing this, Cheng Yi stopped teasing. She got up to pour a glass of water for Meng Qingwu, then grabbed a set of clothes, dressing as she spoke: “I’ll go make breakfast in a bit. What do you want to eat?”
Meng Qingwu sat in bed sipping water, watching Cheng Yi’s lean but well-toned body gradually be hidden by clothes. There was a hint of regret in her eyes as she said, “Whatever you make is fine. I’m not picky.”
Cheng Yi looked back and smiled. It was true; it seemed Meng Qingwu had never been picky about anything she cooked.
Once dressed and washed, Cheng Yi came out to find Meng Qingwu still wrapped in the quilt, dazed. She picked out a suitable outfit for Qingwu from the wardrobe, laid it by the bed, and leaned in for a kiss on the corner of her lips. “If you don’t get up soon, you’ll be late for work,” she teased gently.
Just like years ago, even after waking up, she wanted to linger in bed for a while, like a child unwilling to get up.
Meng Qingwu gave her a long look, sighed at her fate, and threw back the covers. Why does work exist in this world? Most of life’s energy is spent on work; how much time is actually left for oneself?
As she uncovered herself, Cheng Yi got a direct look at Meng Qingwu’s body in the daylight. The red marks scattered across the “white jade” of her skin—especially on her chest and collarbone—were a total “disaster zone.”
Cheng Yi’s eyes darkened for a moment, her sense of possessiveness deeply satisfied. She’s all mine.
Noticing the change in her gaze, Meng Qingwu looked down at herself. “…”
Was this woman an animal last night?
Sensing the “murderous” intent in her eyes, Cheng Yi quickly planted a conciliatory kiss on her lips. “I’ll go make breakfast!” Then she beat a hasty retreat from the room.
After she left, Meng Qingwu was both angry and amused. She shook her head, got dressed, and went to the bathroom. When she saw herself in the mirror, she finally lost it.
“CHENG YI!”
That woman had actually left a mark on her neck!
In the kitchen, Cheng Yi flinched at the roar, nearly dropping her spoon.
When Meng Qingwu finally came out, Cheng Yi noticed she had tied a small black-and-white silk scarf around her neck, hiding the “scenery” beneath completely.
Cheng Yi felt a bit guilty. She had been too excited last night and left too many marks. While seeing them made her happy, she was now worried Meng Qingwu would dislike the behavior.
Meng Qingwu sat down across from her. Seeing Cheng Yi’s tense expression and pursed lips, she sighed softly. “In the future, don’t leave marks in such obvious places. It’s fine now; a scarf isn’t too eye-catching in this weather. But what if it gets hot? Am I supposed to never leave the house?”
Is it that serious? Just because of a bit of wine, she got this excited?
Hearing this, Cheng Yi’s face relaxed. She nodded, indicating she understood.
As she ate breakfast, Meng Qingwu looked around the apartment and said, “This place is closer to my office. I’ll live here from now on.”
She hadn’t put much heart into decorating her own place after buying it, and since she lacked interest in interior design, it always felt empty—not like a home. But Cheng Yi’s place was different. Built according to her own old visions, it felt like a house they had participated in creating together. It had the warmth of a home.
Cheng Yi’s eyes widened, then she broke into a full smile. “Then just move in. I have everything ready for you. You just need to bring yourself.”
She was incredibly glad she had prepared everything in advance. If Meng Qingwu wanted to come, she could live here anytime without needing to move boxes.
Even if she didn’t say it, Meng Qingwu had noticed. Just looking at the clothes she was wearing now, she knew they weren’t in Cheng Yi’s usual style.
“Mhm,” Meng Qingwu responded simply. If it saved her the trouble of moving, all the better.
“I’ll pick you up from work tonight,” Cheng Yi said.
“Mhm. Drive safely.”
“And then we can go to the supermarket together, buy groceries, and cook.”
Meng Qingwu rested her chin on her crossed hands and said slowly, “Whatever else you want to do, just say it all at once.”
Cheng Yi looked a bit shy. “We could also go for a walk after dinner… look at the stars, look at the moon.”
Meng Qingwu couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head. It seemed Professor Cheng had been watching some “interesting” things lately.
“Have you been watching domestic idol dramas?”
The first half was fine, but “looking at the stars and moon”? That was a classic line from cheesy dramas.
Cheng Yi looked at her with a composed face, but Meng Qingwu noticed her throat bob as she swallowed. She was embarrassed.
The smile in Qingwu’s eyes grew. “So you watched them, what’s there to be shy about? It’s not a crime.” She stood up. “What’s your schedule today?”
Cheng Yi looked up. “The lab in the morning, and a class in the afternoon.”
Meng Qingwu nodded. “Then take me to the office now, and then you can go to school!”
A smile blossomed on Cheng Yi’s gentle face as she nodded.
Before today, Meng Qingwu was still wondering why she loved Cheng Yi so much. But now, as the car drove toward her office, she truly knew the answer.
Beyond the initial “love at first sight” and the stunning impression Cheng Yi made, what remained was this sense of warmth in their mundane interactions. They didn’t need to do anything earth-shattering. Just going to work, coming home, eating together, and walking together—this kind of life was the most secure.
It was a form of heart-fluttering excitement that was so ordinary it became permanent.
At a red light, they looked at each other and smiled.
As she got out of the car, Cheng Yi kissed her brow. “I’ll pick you up after work.”
Meng Qingwu smiled and nodded.
Though life was peaceful, “ordinary” didn’t describe everything. After all, the two of them would still find ways to create passionate moments from time to time.
