My Ex Told Me She’s Still In Love With Me - Chapter 58
Chapter 58: I Want to Kiss You
The car crawled through the rush-hour traffic. In these stop-and-go moments that would usually be frustrating, their moods were unexpectedly peaceful. They stole glances at each other, undercurrents of emotion surging between them.
A nonchalant smile played on Meng Qingwu’s beautiful face. When she looked at Cheng Yi, she lightly bit her lower lip, revealing a hint of porcelain-white teeth—a playful, teasing expression that spoke volumes without saying a word.
Cheng Yi felt a flutter of embarrassment under her gaze. She instinctively licked her lips, and by the time she realized what she was doing, a flush had spread across her face. Her mind uncontrollably drifted back to the intense, bold teasing that had occurred before they set off. It had been wild, daring, and filled with a heat that threatened to consume her.
Her hands tightened on the steering wheel. She felt as though she could still feel a warm moisture, a gravity pulling her in, demanding she enter. Her lips pressed thinner, and her throat felt dry. She was becoming increasingly defenseless against Meng Qingwu; as Qingwu’s “skills” grew more refined, Cheng Yi could only bow in submission.
Meng Qingwu noticed her agitation. Her gaze traveled from Cheng Yi’s eyebrows to her nose, then to her red lips, the smile in her eyes deepening. She scanned the long neck, the rise and fall of her chest, followed the line of her arm down to the hand on the wheel, and finally down further to the legs operating the clutch and accelerator. The mischief in her eyes intensified.
“Don’t your legs feel like squeezing together?” Meng Qingwu asked out of the blue.
“Huh?” Taking advantage of a standstill in traffic, Cheng Yi turned to look at her. She saw exactly where Meng Qingwu’s gaze was resting, and the expression on Qingwu’s face was incredibly meaningful.
Cheng Yi froze, then immediate realization hit. Her voice rose in a slight panic, “Qingwu!”
This person… how did she become so wicked!
Meng Qingwu burst into a joyful laugh. Even laughing so unreservedly, she remained breathtakingly beautiful. Cheng Yi was helpless; she shook her head and bit her lip, focusing on the road. She was completely at this woman’s mercy.
She remained silent, but Meng Qingwu wasn’t about to let her off so easily. “Why are you so cold? Have I lost all attraction for you?”
Earlier, Qingwu had guided Cheng Yi’s hand for a brief, shallow touch, but when she had pulled the hand away, Cheng Yi hadn’t shown any sign of reluctance.
Cheng Yi was choked up, left both flustered and embarrassed. “How am I being cold?” She couldn’t let such a slander stand.
Meng Qingwu arched an eyebrow, a flash of flirtatious elegance crossing her features. Her eyes sparkled like stars. “Earlier, when I moved your hand away, you looked like you couldn’t wait to get out of there.”
Cheng Yi: “…”
She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Staring at the bumper of the car ahead, she tried to clear her name: “How could I not be in a hurry? That was right at your front door!”
No matter how bold she might be, she couldn’t bring herself to do anything at Meng Qingwu’s front gate—especially right after meeting her mother. Meeting a mother and then immediately fooling around with her daughter at the entrance… that didn’t seem like the behavior of a decent person.
Meng Qingwu let out another laugh, her eyes filled with deep amusement. Looking at her flustered lover, she said breathlessly, “Fine, I’ll let you off this once.” She had only wanted to tease her; she wouldn’t have actually done anything there.
Cheng Yi pursed her lips, her expression a mix of helplessness and indulgent devotion.
…
They finally arrived at Cheng Yi’s residence. Meng Qingwu stepped out of the car, first surveying the greenery of the neighborhood before looking up.
“Which floor?”
This was one of the capital’s famous high-end complexes known for its landscaping. Seeing it now, Meng Qingwu wasn’t surprised Cheng Yi bought a place here; this quiet, elegant environment suited her perfectly.
“Nineteenth floor,” Cheng Yi answered.
Meng Qingwu turned back. “Then take me up.”
Cheng Yi smiled and took her hand, leading her toward the elevator. During the ride, Meng Qingwu looked around with great interest, as if fascinated by everything about the place where Cheng Yi lived.
They reached the nineteenth floor—a large, single-unit layout. Cheng Yi led her to the door and gave her a small smile. Meng Qingwu found the smile a bit odd until the door opened and she saw the interior decor. She froze.
“Cheng Yi, I hope our future home is decorated in this minimalist style. Light gray tones would look so clean and tidy. And just past the entrance, let’s have a bar counter so we can drink and chat together. I want a hanging chair on the balcony—the kind big enough for both of us to lie in so we can watch the night sky when the weather is good.”
“Oh, and also…”
She had once chattered endlessly about what their future home would look like. At the time, she hadn’t received a positive response; instead, she had been met with the words that they were breaking up.
Meng Qingwu felt a sense of vertigo. The layout and decor before her eyes were exactly as she had described back then. So, even when she wanted to break up, she had taken our plans for the future to heart?
For some reason, her nose felt itchy and she wanted to laugh through the tears. “You…” She couldn’t finish the sentence. If they had known then what they knew now, why put themselves through all that?
Cheng Yi just looked at her and smiled.
Meng Qingwu followed her through every room. Every detail seemed to hit her personal preferences perfectly, leaving her heart feeling bittersweet and heavy.
“This home has finally welcomed its other owner,” Cheng Yi said softly, holding her hand.
Ever since Meng Qingwu left, Cheng Yi had decorated the house according to that vision. Every night, facing the empty rooms, her longing had turned into a burning flame.
“Don’t say such sentimental things,” Meng Qingwu’s voice was muffled. She tried to pull her hand back.
Cheng Yi held on tight, her gaze soft and filled with a mix of tenderness and guilt. “What if I want to say even more sentimental things to you in the future?”
Meng Qingwu bit her lip and pulled her hand away with force. “Then save them for yourself! How old are you? Have you no shame?” This woman used to be a person of few words, but now she wouldn’t stop talking.
Cheng Yi smiled and led Meng Qingwu to register her fingerprints for the lock. “There. Welcome back, Mistress of the house.”
The moment the registration succeeded, Meng Qingwu felt another anchor in her heart. This was their home.
Cheng Yi led her to the bar counter she had specifically requested. She took out the wine set, opened a bottle, and poured two glasses. “You said back then we could have a drink together,” she said warmly.
It was ironic. Back then, Meng Qingwu had a terrible tolerance for alcohol—two beers would knock her out—yet she had insisted on a bar counter so she could drink with Cheng Yi.
Looking at the glass of red wine, Meng Qingwu swirled it. She raised the glass and looked at Cheng Yi through the liquid, laughing happily as she saw Cheng Yi’s face become distorted and enlarged through the glass.
“Do you know why I wanted to drink back then?”
Cheng Yi shook her head honestly.
Meng Qingwu’s smile deepened, and her voice became syrupy and thick. “Because if I drank, I could use the alcohol as an excuse to do whatever I wanted.”
Whenever she drank, Cheng Yi was utterly helpless against her and would follow her every whim. She could use that chance to make even more demands.
Cheng Yi laughed. “So that was your plan all along?” She sighed. Had she really restricted her so much back then? Did she really need the cover of alcohol?
“Mm-hmm,” Meng Qingwu hummed through her nose.
She raised the glass to her red lips. The dark crimson liquid slid into her parted mouth, leaving her lips moist and stained a dark red.
Cheng Yi’s eyes darkened. Her throat bobbed slightly. “Now that your tolerance has improved, will you still use ‘being drunk’ to do whatever you want?”
Her gaze was fixed on Meng Qingwu’s lips. She desperately wanted to lick away that trace of wine, to taste the wine warmed by her body temperature.
Meng Qingwu noticed the change. She cast a sidelong glance, slowly swirling her wine, and said lazily, “And how do you know my tolerance is better now? Tolerance is something that can be… adjusted.”
She curled her lips into a smile. The beauty mark at the corner of her eye exuded an infinite charm. On her stunningly beautiful face was a look of nonchalant languor—like an elegant, noble fox lazily licking its paws.
Cheng Yi was so captivated she couldn’t look away. Even after having been with Meng Qingwu for two years in the past, the passion hadn’t faded, nor had the love slackened. She only loved her more, because every gesture stirred her soul.
“Qingwu,” she murmured.
“Mhm,” Meng Qingwu replied softly.
Seeing the effect she was having on Cheng Yi, she took another sip. The wine slid down her throat, but it felt like it was burning in her chest.
“Qingwu, I want to kiss you,” Cheng Yi said directly.
Meng Qingwu arched her eyebrow, smiling like a little fox whose plan had succeeded.
Her red lips parted: “Sure.”
Having received permission, Cheng Yi became even more excited. Her eyes locked onto Meng Qingwu’s, and she slowly leaned in. Since they were already sitting close, the distance was easily bridged. Soon, they could feel the soft puffs of air from each other’s breath against their cheeks.
A surge of heartbeat followed.
Cheng Yi’s kiss fell upon the beauty mark at the corner of Meng Qingwu’s eye.
She licked it gently.
