My Ex Told Me She’s Still In Love With Me - Chapter 52
Chapter 52: Who Is Your Lover?
The restaurant atmosphere was quiet and intimate, but Meng Qingwu’s words tore that romantic ambiance to shreds. The woman opposite her burst into laughter.
“Ms. Meng, you are truly interesting.” The woman smiled broadly, not at all offended by Meng Qingwu’s blunt statement.
Meng Qingwu: “…” She never thought she’d be the one called ‘interesting’ in this context.
“But I think you’ve misunderstood, Ms. Meng.” The woman rested her hands on her drink, her fingertips tapping the glass lightly. “I was only pressured by my family to come here today. I already have someone I love.”
Meng Qingwu: “???” “You have someone you love?”
The woman nodded, her expression softening and her eyes sparkling. “Yes. She is wonderful.” When she spoke of her “she,” the unconscious tenderness in her voice made it clear how much she adored that person.
Meng Qingwu: “…If you already have someone, why come on a blind date?” Even if the family arranged it, no one could truly force someone who didn’t want to be there, right?
The woman looked at Meng Qingwu, her smile becoming somewhat inscrutable. “Then why did you come, Ms. Meng?” She glanced in a specific direction, her smile deepening.
Meng Qingwu followed her gaze and saw a woman with long hair sitting at a nearby table, currently looking their way. After a moment of silence, she asked, “Is that the person you love?”
The woman nodded decisively.
Meng Qingwu: “…” What is going on today? She came here because of Cheng Yi. And this woman came to a blind date… bringing her girlfriend?
However, this behavior piqued Meng Qingwu’s interest. “She looks quite nice. Does your family not approve?” The woman at the other table had a refined, cool temperament; they looked very well-matched.
Dai Shuyu gave a bitter smile. “They don’t. My father and her father are brothers who had a massive falling out. How could they ever agree to us being together?”
Meng Qingwu: “…” She hadn’t expected such a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ reason. It felt a bit like a cliché soap opera.
She gave a polite nod to the other woman as a greeting, then checked her watch. It was already 7:20 PM. The person she was waiting for still hadn’t appeared.
“Ms. Meng, you haven’t told me why you’re here yet,” Dai Shuyu said, propping her chin on her hands and looking at her with an air of gossip.
Meng Qingwu appreciated her honesty and admitted, “Because my lover is supposed to be on a blind date here tonight. I just wanted to see for myself.” She wanted to see if the person Cheng Yi was meeting was somehow “better” than her.
Dai Shuyu’s eyes widened. “Is she here? Where is she?”
Mentioning this made Meng Qingwu frustrated. Was her mother’s intel wrong, or did Cheng Yi decide not to show up? “She hasn’t come. I haven’t seen—”
Halfway through her sentence, Meng Qingwu’s gaze fixed on the entrance. A tall woman had just walked in, with another woman leaning heavily against her. The smaller woman looked up and smiled weakly at her companion.
Meng Qingwu: “…” Her expression went cold.
At the entrance, Cheng Yi hadn’t noticed the eyes on her yet. She was supporting the woman, her voice filled with concern. “How are you? Any better?”
The woman’s brow was still furrowed in pain, her voice soft and pitiful. “It still hurts a bit, but it’s much better.”
Cheng Yi sighed and helped her to a table. “I’m so sorry. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have been hurt.”
On the way here, a child on a bicycle had come hurtling down a slope in the parking lot. Just as she was about to be hit, someone had lunged forward and pulled her back. She had crashed into a soft embrace, but the force caused both of them to fall. She had heard a cry of pain. Cheng Yi had scrambled up to find the woman unable to stand.
“It hurts,” the woman had whispered, holding her leg.
“Did you… did you sprain your ankle?” Cheng Yi had asked anxiously. The woman nodded, her eyes rimmed with red. Cheng Yi felt terrible; she insisted on helping her. After checking that no bones were broken, Cheng Yi gave her a business card.
“I know who you are,” the woman had whispered shyly. “Auntie Yu told me. I’m your date for tonight, Qi Yu.”
Cheng Yi was stunned by the coincidence. She looked at the woman—short, bobbed hair, a bit of baby fat on her cheeks. A total “cute girl” type. Cheng Yi: “…” So this is Ms. Yu’s taste? She had only come to spy on Meng Qingwu, not to actually date. But since the girl was hurt because of her, she couldn’t be cold.
…
Back in the present, Meng Qingwu only saw Cheng Yi intimately holding another woman, the two of them appearing to talk and laugh harmoniously. Her face darkened as she glared in their direction.
Dai Shuyu noticed the shift. “Which one of those two is your lover?” She asked bluntly, already analyzing. “It must be the taller one. Based on your vibe, that other girl is too ‘soft’—not your type at all.”
In her eyes, Meng Qingwu was a quintessential “Queen” type. Would such a mature woman like a “white rabbit” girl? Queen x Queen is the better pairing, she thought, her eyes glinting with amusement as she looked between Meng Qingwu and Cheng Yi.
“You guessed right,” Meng Qingwu said coldly. “The tall one is my ‘lover’.” At this moment, she didn’t even want to use the word “girlfriend,” especially since they had never officially defined their status.
On the other side, Cheng Yi finally felt the gaze. She turned and froze when she saw Meng Qingwu. She instinctively moved to stand up and go to her.
“Cheng Yi, I need to go to the restroom,” Qi Yu said, her face slightly flushed.
Cheng Yi: “…Okay. I’ll help you over.” Helplessly, she had to delay talking to Meng Qingwu to assist the injured girl.
Meng Qingwu watched them walk away. Her eyes drifted down to the woman’s foot, and she began to suspect what might have happened.
…
Meanwhile, in the hidden booth, the three elders were in an uproar.
Lan Xining stared wide-eyed at the scene, then turned to Yu Qingshuang with a mock-accusing look. “Don’t you think you owe us an explanation? To be that intimate with someone else right in front of us?”
Meng Shuyu didn’t speak, but her cold, crossed-arm posture made it clear she was also waiting for an answer.
Yu Qingshuang hesitated. She couldn’t reveal her little schemes to these two. “Didn’t you notice the girl is walking strangely? Yiyi is just helping her.” Still, she watched them. If things really don’t work out with Qingwu, this one might actually be a good choice, she thought privately.
