Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 99
Half a stick of incense later, Liu Fenyun and Lian Yi sat before Tu Shan Shuo. The surrounding area was obscured by curtains and layered with various illusion spells.
Witnessing the attendants’ elaborate preparations, Liu Fenyun realized that the rumors Qi Niao mentioned were true. Although Tu Shan Shuo usually appeared scatterbrained, she was extremely meticulous about organizing weddings, even the location for interviewing the couple was kept strictly private.
The little fox spread her nine tails around her and earnestly recorded their requirements for the wedding. After an hour of discussion, they finalized the venue and the proceedings. However, Tu Shan Shuo insisted that she must be the one to determine the date.
“Even though you are residents of the Upper Realm, marrying on an auspicious day still grants you ‘Heavenly Protection’!” Tu Shan Shuo explained solemnly. “‘Heavenly Protection’ affects your lifelong fortune. Even if you’ve had terrible luck before, this can turn it around. If you have the chance to get it, you absolutely mustn’t miss out!”
Liu Fenyun and Lian Yi exchanged a glance. After a brief hesitation, they agreed to her request.
Tu Shan Shuo clapped her hands and smiled. “Great! Your wedding is set then. Wait a moment while I cast a divination to calculate the auspicious day for you~”
Liu Fenyun nodded and took the opportunity to ask, “Young City Lord, regarding the commission fee…”
“No need, no need! My father still owes the City Lord of Kongmeng a huge favor!” Tu Shan Shuo waved her hand dismissively. “How about this, you two go to the Guest Hall and wait quietly, okay?”
The Wait at the Guest Hall
Yu Qingyue and Luo Binglun were waiting in the Guest Hall. Seeing Liu Fenyun and Lian Yi emerge, Yu Qingyue quickly asked, “How did it go?”
The Young City Lord of Qingyan City was famously picky about wedding details, and Yu Qingyue had feared they might clash.
“The Young City Lord asked us to wait here for the divination results,” Liu Fenyun said. “She wants to personally set the wedding date.”
“Then, congratulations to you both in advance.” Yu Qingyue breathed a sigh of relief and smiled faintly. “However, we must return soon. If the wedding date coincides with last year’s timing, we might not be able to make it for the wedding wine.”
Hearing this, Luo Binglun, sitting beside her, gave an awkward smile.
She had been gone for so long that the tasks piled up in the Priestess Hall were overwhelming. Even though they had resolved some upon their previous return, it was far from enough. Furthermore, they had to bring Sha Lanyi and the two cats back this time, handling Sha Lanyi’s paperwork alone would be a thorny process.
Lian Yi, having been a Saintess herself, understood Luo Binglun’s predicament. “If you are in a hurry, go back as soon as you must. We will bring wedding candy to visit you.”
Liu Fenyun had hoped that letting Tu Shan Shuo pick the date might move things up, but when the little fox emerged after her divination, she gave them a very late date, nearly at the start of the Spring Month.
After a moment of silence, Liu Fenyun asked cautiously, “Is there an earlier auspicious day?”
Tu Shan Shuo replied bluntly, “Nope, this is already the earliest one. But if you have urgent matters to attend to, it can be postponed.”
Receiving this confirmation, Liu Fenyun sighed inwardly. It seemed her Master and the others really wouldn’t be able to stay for the wedding wine.
A Private Promise
With the wedding matters settled, the group headed back. On the way, Luo Binglun asked Liu Fenyun about the general wedding flow, then fell into thought while stroking the feathers of her gyrfalcon.
In the past, she had only ever thought about loving her beloved from afar for a lifetime, she never dared dream of marriage. After all, the Fire God’s teachings in the Kingdom of Zhuhuang strictly forbade same-sex marriage. As the High Priestess, she could not be the first to violate the doctrine.
But a High Priestess must eventually abdicate. Moreover, she was now a long-lived member of the Demon Race. Once she stepped down and settled her family affairs, she could leave Zhuhuang and spend the rest of her life with her beloved.
“Are you willing to have a grand wedding with me, Binglun?” Yu Qingyue’s voice suddenly reached her ears.
Luo Binglun started, then smiled. “Naturally, I am willing. But I must first handle the affairs of Zhuhuang properly.”
“Then let us return early,” Yu Qingyue said. “Finish the tasks early, find a successor early, and come back early.”
Her voice remained faint and calm, but Luo Binglun felt a wave of warmth in her heart. She couldn’t help but lean down, pressing her face against the warm feathers, murmuring, “Whatever you say.”
It’s wonderful, she thought, Qingyue is already planning our future.
The Power of the Green Ghost Lotus
With over half a month until the wedding, Liu Fenyun decided to take Lian Yi to the Qingmu Immortal Mountain to gather the “Sorrowless” herb and its companion grass. Before that, she intended to fulfill her promise to the cat, to help her become stronger.
A bewildered Lian Yi followed her into the Medicinal Garden Space and watched as Liu Fenyun plucked a blooming Green Ghost Lotus.
“Why pick the flower?” Lian Yi asked, looking sadly at the pond now left with only lotus leaves.
“To make something good for you.” Liu Fenyun smiled, stored the lotus, washed her hands, and led her to the research lab within the garden, finding a soft cushion for her to sit on.
When Liu Fenyun was still a God, she often gave Green Ghost Lotuses to friends to be crafted into armor, flying artifacts, or weapons. Conveniently, one of her friends was a deity who loved tinkering with spiritual plants to create weaponry.
Lian Yi sat obediently. Liu Fenyun exposed the lotus mark on Lian Yi’s back, applied some blood, and used it to temporarily teleport them to the God Realm to meet that deity.
Before long, they were inside a divine palace. Sitting before them was an old acquaintance in white robes, lounging in a soft chair reading a storybook.
Seeing them, the God of Fate pushed up her glasses, closed the book, and sat up straight. “Why have you come together this time?”
“I need a favor.” Liu Fenyun placed the container with the Green Ghost Lotus on the jade table. “It just bloomed. See if you can turn it into a weapon for Yiyi.”
The God of Fate wasn’t surprised by Liu Fenyun’s composure. She offered her trademark smile, as if she had long expected Liu Fenyun to regain her memories and seek her out. She inspected the flower and laughed, “It is indeed fresh. Making a weapon is no problem, but in my opinion, making a weapon is a bit of a waste.”
“Then modify it according to your ideas.” Liu Fenyun nodded. Even though she had only recovered partial memories, her defenses against the God of Fate were completely gone. They were close in the past; otherwise, she wouldn’t have entrusted her cat to this deity before descending.
“It might take some time. Can I ‘airdrop’ it to you once it’s done?” the God of Fate asked, without specifying where.
Liu Fenyun nodded again. “Of course. However, I am going on a long journey soon to a gathering place for mortal cultivators. I don’t know their rules yet, so for safety’s sake, I probably won’t visit you again until I return.”
She pointedly didn’t ask about the Qingmu Immortal Mountain. Since she was still technically undergoing her “tribulation,” the God of Fate was her overseer. If they were caught cheating by the Great Deity, the God of Fate would be in trouble too.
Before leaving, Liu Fenyun couldn’t help but ask, “Can I transfer the management rights of the System to Yiyi?”
Liu Fenyun’s reasoning was simple: the System could modify attribute points to specifically enhance power. To her, this was a bit redundant, but for the cat, it could significantly boost her strength.
The God of Fate paused her movements, looked up, and pushed her glasses up solemnly. “No. That is a God’s only means of self-protection in the lower realm. You must never have that thought again!”
Lian Yi, who didn’t even know Liu Fenyun possessed a system, listened in confusion. Before she could ask, they were sent back to the Medicinal Garden.
A Quiet Moment
The cat flicked her ears and looked at Liu Fenyun, hesitating. Deciding that “A-Yun” deserved her own secrets, she didn’t ask about the “System.” Instead, she tugged at Liu Fenyun’s sleeve. “Can a lotus really be made into a weapon?”
“Yes, and it can be made into flying artifacts and armor too.” Liu Fenyun rubbed the cat’s ears. “I remember giving a flying artifact made of Green Ghost Lotus to a friend once, though I can’t quite recall when that was.”
Lian Yi rubbed her palm against Liu Fenyun’s hand and gave a soft “oh.” She put on her clothes and asked with a yawn, “Shall we go out?”
Even though she had regained her memories and demon form, the teleportation consumed a lot of energy, leaving her exhausted.
Back in the sleeping chambers, Liu Fenyun carried the half-asleep cat to the bath. While soaking in the warm spring, she opened the System map to plan the route to Qingmu Immortal Mountain.
Qi Niao would provide flying artifacts and feathered-demon escorts. However, data showed that upon entering the mountain, all outside escorts had to leave. Only she and the cat could enter. Thinking of how the mortal Chong Yun had entered the mountain alone to find his mother, Liu Fenyun felt that if a mortal could do it, they certainly could too.
The cat in her arms had reverted to her original form, a fluffy ball huddling against her. Liu Fenyun tried to splash some water to wash the cat, but predictably got a face full of water in return as the cat shook herself dry.
Liu Fenyun wiped her face and ran her fingers through the cat’s wet fur, gently scratching her soft, warm belly. This woke Lian Yi up. The cat opened her eyes a sliver, stared at the grinning Liu Fenyun, and promptly bit her hand.
“Ouch!” Liu Fenyun cried out, finally letting go.
“Why do you always love washing me while I’m sleeping?” Lian Yi grumbled, her deep blue eyes filled with helplessness. She gave Liu Fenyun’s hand another playful nibble.
“I’ll stop, I’ll stop…” Liu Fenyun waved her hands. Just as she was about to carry the cat to the edge, Lian Yi hooked her claws into Liu Fenyun’s robe, flattening herself against her like a “cat pancake,” refusing to leave.
Since they needed to inform Qi Niao early to arrange the travel party, Liu Fenyun eventually left the bath. She wrapped herself in a dry robe and slowly dried the cat’s fur with a towel.
Lian Yi stretched and yawned. Once her white fur was dry, it became incredibly fluffy, brushing against Liu Fenyun’s hand like a light cloud of cotton.
It reminded Liu Fenyun of her days in the God Realm, and even further back, her days as a lone cat-owner in the city, peaceful and mundane.
The only thing that had changed was that her cat was now much more clingy.
