Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 98
Leaving Tushan Shuo and Yin Sa behind, Lian Yi couldn’t help but ask as they walked back onto the street: “Are you really planning to hold the wedding here?”
Liu Fenyun paused, asking in return: “Is it not good?”
She had made a promise to the kitty, and she had no intention of going back on her word. However, if the kitty didn’t like it, she wouldn’t do it.
“It is good, of course, it’s just…” Lian Yi opened her mouth but then closed it. After walking for a while, she said bashfully, “It’s just that I don’t know what kind of ceremonies the Demon Race performs for weddings. Would it be too much trouble?”
She used to be the unique Saintess of the Kingdom of Zhuhuang, so she naturally had whatever she desired. Her wedding with Liu Fenyun back then was handled according to the grand scale of a Saintess’s wedding, extremely luxurious, and she didn’t have to spend a cent. But things were different now.
When Liu Fenyun had asked her earlier what she wanted, Lian Yi hadn’t considered this layer. Although she had saved up a lot of wealth over the years, those were currencies for the Human Realm, they might be useless in the Demon Realm. If that were the case, she would have to trouble the God of Time or the Lord of Kongmeng City to foot the bill.
“That’s easy to solve. Didn’t the God of Time and the others already get married?” Liu Fenyun said. “Even though the process for a sovereign’s wedding is definitely different from ours, there must be officials in the city responsible for handling marriages. We can just ask when we get back.”
Lian Yi nodded in silence, then soon whispered: “Actually, just a formality would be fine. No banquet, no guests… as long as I have you.”
“But then it wouldn’t be lively.” Liu Fenyun shook her head, not noticing the underlying meaning in her words. “Don’t worry, we can just leave this sort of thing to the professionals. We don’t need to overthink it.”
Before leaving, Liu Fenyun hadn’t forgotten to exchange Demon Realm currency with Qi Niao. Thus, whenever she saw rare trinkets on the street that didn’t exist in the Human Realm, she would stop to look for a while and ask Lian Yi if she wanted them.
But looking at the kitty’s expression, her mind was no longer on shopping. Liu Fenyun asked a few times, but seeing that Lian Yi was dazing off, she gave up and led her back to the Royal City to ask Qi Niao about the wedding arrangements.
As if she had long expected them to ask, Qi Niao smiled and said: “So you’re having a wedding! Tomorrow, have A-Qing take you to Qingyan City. That old fox still owes Yaoyao many favors. Just tell that old fox whatever kind of magnificent wedding you want.”
Fu Yao, the Lord of Kongmeng City, was lounging like a “salted fish” on a soft chair nearby. Hearing this, she added: “The wedding between This Sovereign and my lady was handled by that old fox.”
“But the Lord of Qingyan City seems very busy lately… Is that Young Master of the Tushan Clan reliable?” Liu Fenyun asked.
“You mean Tushan Shuo?” Qi Niao stroked Fu Yao’s wings, thinking for a moment. “She’s reliable. She has a very good reputation in the Demon Realm, though she is extremely picky. Not just any demon can ask for her help. If you two are already acquainted, then that’s wonderful.”
Liu Fenyun and Lian Yi looked at each other, unable to associate the word “picky” with that simple-minded little fox.
Returning to the sleeping quarters, Liu Fenyun took the storage jade pendant given by Qi Niao and headed to the medicine garden.
Since they planned to ask Tushan Shuo to organize the wedding, they had to bring some gifts. Furthermore, it was thanks to Yin Sa’s teleportation array that they were able to reach the Demon Realm so easily.
As she passed the lotus pond, Liu Fenyun couldn’t help but stop to look for a while.
Because Lian Yi’s affection level had reached its maximum, the petals of the Green Ghost Lotus were now in full bloom. The green lotus swayed without any wind, and its fragrance drifted far, even reaching the spirit fields.
Liu Fenyun had recovered a good portion of her memories. She knew the Green Ghost Lotus was a spiritual plant she had raised in her palace before descending to the mortal realm. Before she left, the pond in her palace had been filled with them. The Green Ghost Lotus seeds she had obtained from the system when unlocking the medicine garden were the seeds of those very lotuses from the Upper Realm.
Lian Yi followed behind her, smelling the rich lotus fragrance, feeling very surprised.
“How are they all in bloom?” she asked in astonishment. “It hasn’t been that long…”
She didn’t know about the existence of the system or the affection panel. Liu Fenyun smiled without speaking and walked toward the spirit fields.
Lian Yi did not follow. Instead, she paced back and forth by the pond, occasionally touching the green lotus petals.
She remembered the lotus pond in the Temple of the God of Medicine it, too, had been filled with Green Ghost Lotuses. The God Realm didn’t have fixed seasons; as long as the master of the temple willed it, a certain area could stay in one season forever.
The lotus scent calmed Lian Yi’s anxious heart significantly. Idly, she used the fragrance to see some hallucinations. Feeling a bit sleepy, she dragged over the cat bed that had been placed nearby, jumped in, and curled up.
When Liu Fenyun finished gathering the spirit herbs and returned, she saw the kitty already asleep in a ball in her bed. Passing by, she picked up the white fluff ball, gave her a couple of rubs, and carried her out of the garden.
The Green Ghost Lotus was originally a hallucinogenic herb, but with only one plant, the effect wouldn’t negatively impact those who inhaled its scent.
Lian Yi, drifting off with the lotus fragrance, naturally entered a dream-scape.
It was a time before she had fallen to the Lower Realm, but after Liu Fenyun had left without saying goodbye.
Lian Yi could feel herself being held in someone’s arms. That person held a comb and was very carefully brushing her fur.
“Stop running around. LiuLiu will come back after she finishes her tribulation. You won’t find her before then anyway.” The person’s voice was as gentle as their movements. “She didn’t tell you because she didn’t want you to worry, it’s not that she doesn’t care about you. If she didn’t care for you, she wouldn’t have asked me to look after you.”
Lian Yi could now recognize who this person was. Duan Xuan, the God of Fate, one of Liu Fenyun’s few friends in the Upper Realm. This god had a very mischievous personality, but was surprisingly patient when it came to taking care of small animals. That was why Liu Fenyun had entrusted her to the God of Fate before leaving.
Lian Yi tried hard to recall her reaction back then. It seemed she hadn’t taken the God of Fate’s comfort to heart at all; on the contrary, her obsession with finding Liu Fenyun had only deepened.
Perhaps the seeds of her current fixation on Liu Fenyun had already begun to sprout at that time.
After Liu Fenyun left, Lian Yi’s memories of the God Realm were not particularly pleasant. Even though the God of Fate constantly took her running all over the realm and lent her books to read, her heart was only set on Liu Fenyun, making everything else feel meaningless.
She had sealed her own heart away, maintaining a sweet and obedient smile on the surface for the God of Fate, leading the deity to mistakenly believe she was living happily every day. After an unknown amount of time passed like this, she took advantage of a moment when the God of Fate let her guard down and headed for the place rumored to lead to the Lower Realm.
Finishing her stroll down memory lane, Lian Yi sighed in the God of Fate’s arms, feeling a sense of apology toward her.
Now that she had regained her memories and her demon form, she had also recovered most of her strength. With a flick of her paw, she proactively withdrew from the illusion.
The lights in the sleeping quarters had already been extinguished. Liu Fenyun lay beside her, holding her tightly as a bolster just like usual, sleeping peacefully.
Lian Yi did not change back into her human form. Instead, she leaned in and gently bumped noses with Liu Fenyun.
If she hadn’t fallen to the Lower Realm, perhaps she would have already reunited with the A-Yun who had returned from her tribulation in the God Realm by now.
Amidst her regret and guilt, she felt strangely fortunate.
Fortunate that she was able to experience so many things, allowing her to cherish her days with A-Yun even more, fortunate that she could live as a member of the human race.
Crouched in Liu Fenyun’s embrace, Lian Yi thought about how she would have to find a way to “atone” once they returned to the God Realm. Regardless of the circumstances, she had caused too much trouble for the gods who looked after her.
But how was she to atone? Would she, like Qi Ran, be sent to some small world to undergo a tribulation?
As she pondered, the kitty’s eyelids drooped, and she fell asleep beside Liu Fenyun.
The next morning, Liu Fenyun took the spiritual herbs and the cat, riding the gyrfalcon toward Qingyan City.
Luo Binglun was also seated on the gyrfalcon’s broad back. Knowing she would eventually move to the Demon Realm to live with Yu Qingyue, she wanted to familiarize herself with the surroundings beforehand.
“Between demon cities, people usually travel via teleportation arrays or flying artifacts. For shorter distances, one can also take carriages pulled by demon beasts,” Yu Qingyue explained as they flew. “However, activating a teleportation array requires spirit stones. If there’s no urgent business, most residents prefer to travel slowly on flying artifacts.”
Qingyan City and Kongmeng City weren’t far apart; otherwise, it would have been impossible for Tushan Shuo to bring Yin Sa over to watch the fireworks the previous night.
Yu Qingyue was acquainted with the guards of Qingyan City. After landing at the city gate and showing them a token, they were allowed through.
Liu Fenyun noticed that these guards were all members of the Fox Clan. She subconsciously expected to see “fluff” everywhere upon entering the city and was considering how to avoid staring when the city gates opened before her.
As they walked down the street for a while, the scene Liu Fenyun had anticipated did not appear. If it weren’t for the fox patterns painted or carved on every shop sign, she might have even thought she was shopping in Kongmeng City.
Sensing her confusion, Yu Qingyue explained: “Although Qingyan City is the territory of the ancient Tushan Nine Tailed Foxes, the situation inside is not much different from Kongmeng City. The current Demon Realm is like the Human Realm, constantly plagued by war. Large cities will annex smaller ones to increase national strength, and Qingyan City is no exception.”
She soon led the group into the royal palace of Qingyan City. Liu Fenyun noticed that the architecture here was vastly different from the inner and outer cities. To her, every brick on the ground and every tile on the palaces exuded a very ancient aura, with decorations and totems related to nine tailed foxes visible everywhere.
This aura was exactly what she was familiar with, a divine presence she thought only existed in the God Realm.
“Is Qingyan City also an ancient ruin?” she asked instinctively.
“Yes, though the city changed its name several hundred years ago,” Yu Qingyue nodded, leading them up stone steps guarded by two jade-carved nine tailed foxes.
Members of the Fox Clan became more numerous along the way, but most had only one tail, and they weren’t all white foxes.
At the thought of meeting the fox who would be organizing their wedding, Lian Yi couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous, clinging tightly to Liu Fenyun’s arm.
Even though they were all mortal demons, the nine tailed foxes were a race that had survived since ancient times, their bloodline was ultimately more noble than that of a Lion Cat.
Reaching the top of the stone steps, the group followed Yu Qingyue onto a white jade platform, with a grand hall standing not far away.
Lian Yi cautiously peeked toward the hall. Her gaze swept over just in time to see Tushan Shuo, now dressed in formal attire, rushing out of the hall excitedly. Nine soft fox tails swayed behind her, and her long hem trailed from the hall entrance all the way down the steps.
Lian Yi quickly averted her gaze, but in the next second, she heard a soft “thud.” Unable to resist looking back, she saw Tushan Shuo flat on the ground, with three of her tails tucked under her body to act as a cushion.
Sensing her gaze, Tushan Shuo looked up, her eyes crinkling into a brilliant smile as if she were perfectly used to tripping on flat ground.
