Married First, Loved Later with the Fake Heiress (ABO) - Chapter 5
As soon as Ji Mianyue returned, she heard her roommates teasing her.
“Oh my! Our resident Omega, who swore she would absolutely never date, is actually in a relationship?”
“I thought you just didn’t like the people I introduced to you before. Looking at it now, Mianyue, the one you picked for yourself is really quite impressive!”
“Quick, tell us! How did you manage to snag a top-tier Alpha like Wen Conghan?”
Ji Mianyue’s face was already as red as a tomato after the first few sentences. By the time the conversation reached this point, she waved her hands frantically and told everyone, “It is not like that. It is really not like that.”
She is not my girlfriend. Before those words could leave her mouth, Ji Mianyue recalled the things Wen Conghan had said to her that day.
“What? Are you two not together yet?” A roommate’s question flew her way, and Ji Mianyue’s expression turned solemn in an instant.
“Yes, Wen Conghan is my girlfriend.” When she said this, there was no sweetness in her voice. Instead, she sounded as serious as a robot that had been assigned a mandatory mission.
The roommates were all keen enough to sense something was wrong. It did not feel as romantic as they expected.
“Dating recklessly and lacking judgment in people leads to a miserable end,” someone sitting in the corner said, striking a discordant note against the others’ blessings.
“Guan Nian, what are you doing? Mianyue just started dating. Why say such unlucky things?”
“Exactly. Wen Conghan is highly skilled in her field, and she is very good-looking too.”
“Plus, she is always helpful. She is completely different from the average Alpha.”
“Guan Nian, you are not saying this because you are jealous, are you? Usually, everyone thinks you and Mianyue are close, but I did not expect this.”
Guan Nian’s heart suddenly leaped into her throat. She looked at the roommate who spoke with a pale face. She was terrified that her true feelings for Ji Mianyue would be discovered.
It was not that Omegas could not date other Omegas, but Ji Mianyue was the eldest young lady of the prestigious Ji family. What was Guan Nian by comparison? She was just an Omega who was not outstanding in any aspect. Being able to find a decent job after graduation would already be a blessing for her.
From the very first second she fell for Ji Mianyue, Guan Nian knew there was absolutely no possibility for them. The best relationship they could ever have was simply being friends.
“I did not expect you to like Wen Conghan too!” Seeing Guan Nian’s complexion, the roommate naturally assumed they had guessed correctly.
Hearing this, the color finally returned to Guan Nian’s face.
“Who would want to like Wen Conghan?” Guan Nian almost blurted out her true thoughts. However, she realized she still needed to use “liking Wen Conghan” as a shield.
“It is alright. I only like her a little bit. I just want Mianyue to be able to date a better Alpha.”
Guan Nian, you really are a hypocrite! Guan Nian despised herself. In truth, she did not want Ji Mianyue to find a good Alpha at all. If possible, Guan Nian hoped Ji Mianyue would never fall for an Alpha. If that wish could not come true, she hoped Ji Mianyue would at least remain single during their university years.
Because Guan Nian was aware of her own dark thoughts, she did not quite dare to look Ji Mianyue in the eye.
“I never knew, Guan Nian, that you liked Wen Conghan.”
Ji Mianyue’s eyes were watery, looking as if she might cry at any moment. She felt as though she had inadvertently hurt someone else.
“No, it is not your fault. I never said anything, so how could you have known?”
Seeing her like this, Guan Nian’s heart instantly panicked.
“It is not your fault. Please, do not cry.”
After hearing that, Ji Mianyue’s sense of guilt only grew stronger. Guan Nian was her best friend at this school, yet it appeared she had snatched away the person Guan Nian liked.
“Niannian, will we still be friends?” Ji Mianyue felt she had done something terribly wrong. She told herself she had to handle this matter properly; there had to be a way to make everyone happy.
Watching Ji Mianyue suffer, Guan Nian’s heart felt as if it were being squeezed, aching with a bitter sadness. She simply could not restrain her love for Ji Mianyue.
On their first day at school, Guan Nian could not move her luggage because her hand was injured. Just as she thought an Alpha would come over to help, all the Alphas in the vicinity were crowding around Ji Mianyue instead. Guan Nian became the person who was deliberately ignored. At first, she was angry that Ji Mianyue had stolen all the attention.
“Classmate, is your hand injured? Let me help you.”
Ji Mianyue had been all smiles. When she smiled, the dimple on the left corner of her mouth looked as if it were filled with sweet wine. With just one look, Guan Nian’s heart began to spiral out of control. Her things were heavy, and by the time they finished moving, Ji Mianyue’s forehead was covered in sweat.
When they finished, Ji Mianyue smiled at Guan Nian and asked, “Everything is here. Nothing was left behind, right?”
From the moment Ji Mianyue finished that sentence, Guan Nian knew she was lost. She had fallen in love with an Omega.
“Wen Conghan is just an Alpha. How could she possibly shake our friendship?” Guan Nian tried her best to act indifferent because she did not want to see Ji Mianyue upset.
“Wow, as expected of the Alpha-hating Guan Nian!”
“Exactly. Mianyue, you are overthinking it. Guan Nian definitely would not abandon her friendship with you over an Alpha.”
“Well said! That is the spirit of Dorm 310!”
However, Ji Mianyue’s mood did not improve despite the cheers. It was not until Guan Nian took her hand and said, “I really only like Wen Conghan a little bit,” that she felt slightly better.
When Guan Nian said this, it was as if she were being forced to complete a difficult task. The next sentence came out more smoothly.
“Do not be sad over this. Wen Conghan cannot even compare to your place in my heart.”
Ji Mianyue would always be number one in Guan Nian’s heart. In that race, Ji Mianyue was the only contestant.
It was not until three days later, when Wen Conghan appeared in front of Guan Nian, that Guan Nian began to regret her lie.
“Mianyue, the two of us came out to watch a movie. Why did you have to bring her along?” Guan Nian said this with a smile, but in reality, her teeth were nearly grinding to dust.
“Let me explain. Mianyue, could you please go buy some popcorn?” Wen Conghan asked with a smile. Ji Mianyue agreed, knowing Wen Conghan was trying to keep things from becoming awkward for her.
Wen Conghan really is a good person! Ji Mianyue thought. She had previously revealed to Wen Conghan that “someone” liked her without mentioning Guan Nian’s name. She had tentatively asked Wen Conghan what they should do if they eventually got married while someone else still had feelings for her.
The second Wen Conghan heard that question, her intuition told her that the person did not like her at all; they liked Ji Mianyue. Seeing Guan Nian now confirmed this.
Like her? The look in Guan Nian’s eyes suggested she wanted to tear Wen Conghan to pieces. Only someone as gullible as Ji Mianyue would believe Guan Nian’s excuse. However, Wen Conghan did not underestimate her opponent. In all fairness, she knew that if she were an Omega, she would still fall in love with Ji Mianyue. Therefore, she would not give Guan Nian a single chance.
“I know you do not like me, and I also know exactly who it is you actually like,” Wen Conghan said, getting straight to the point.
“So? Are you going to tell me that it is only natural for an Alpha and an Omega to be together?” Guan Nian looked at Wen Conghan, revealing her true, unfriendly, and fierce side.
“I do not say things that only narrow-minded people would say.” The answer Wen Conghan gave was completely unexpected. “If I were you, I would like Ji Mianyue too.”
Wen Conghan’s matter-of-fact tone left Guan Nian stunned. She looked at Wen Conghan suspiciously. She sensed a shared ruthlessness in Wen Conghan, but it was clear that Wen Conghan was far more dangerous than she was. She wondered if Ji Mianyue could truly be happy with someone like this.
“Do not look at me like that. The only similarity between us is Ji Mianyue. As for everything else, I am sorry, but we are completely different. If I had your status and your position as a ‘best friend,’ I would definitely use that closeness to stay with her. But you won’t.”
Wen Conghan wore a gentle mask, but Guan Nian could see the mockery behind her smile.
“What do you mean?” Guan Nian clenched her fists.
“I mean that I would use any means necessary to be with her. But you will not. Guan Nian, you do not dare.”
With those words, Wen Conghan dismantled Guan Nian’s inner defenses. Guan Nian tried to speak, but no sound came out. She could not refute the truth. She was intimidated by Ji Mianyue’s family background. She was terrified that being with her would cause Ji Mianyue’s life to fall apart.
“I am different from you, Guan Nian. From the start, I knew Ji Mianyue’s family was beyond my current reach. If I did not end up with her this time, I would not give up. I would wait until I had the strength, or until she got a divorce. In fact, I would make her get a divorce. You do not believe you can make her happy, but I believe I am the only one in this world who can. You and I have nothing in common.”
Wen Conghan’s eyes were full of open derision.
Slap! Wen Conghan’s face was knocked to the side. When Ji Mianyue returned with the popcorn, this was the scene she witnessed.
“What is wrong? What happened?” Ji Mianyue looked at Guan Nian to ask what happened, but then she saw glistening tears in Wen Conghan’s eyes. “Does it hurt?”
Hearing Ji Mianyue’s concern, Wen Conghan did not cover her face. Instead, she intentionally tilted her head to show the red finger marks.
“I am fine. I deserved to be hit anyway. After all, I rejected such a wonderful Omega. Mianyue, please do not be angry with Guan Nian.”
For the first time, Guan Nian saw the true definition of a “manipulator” in an Alpha. She could not believe how shameless Wen Conghan was.
“Guan Nian, Wen Conghan is a very good Alpha.”
