Married First, Loved Later with the Fake Heiress (ABO) - Chapter 4
“Ah?” A thin layer of pink brushed over Ji Mianyue’s face. She swayed her body slightly from side to side, looking a bit conflicted.
“Do we really have to kiss?” After she spoke, Ji Mianyue glanced around. There were indeed many couples at the bottom of the Omega dormitory lingering reluctantly as they said their goodbyes.
They weren’t just doing the “parting kiss” Wen Conghan mentioned; some were even hugging and deep kissing. Heavens, she was so shy.
Ji Mianyue steeled her heart, believing that Wen Conghan definitely would not lie to her. At least it was not a deep kiss.
Kissing here would help others notice their relationship as a couple. Whether it was today or tomorrow, she was going to have to kiss Wen Conghan eventually.
In that case, it is better to start today! Ji Mianyue cheered herself on mentally. This was the first time she had ever kissed someone other than her Mother and Mommy; she felt as though her heart was about to jump out of her chest.
Wen Conghan did not intend to push her too hard. Today was, after all, only the first time they had officially met.
She remained silent for a moment, just about to say it was fine and they could take it slow. In the next second, a slightly moist, soft kiss appeared on her cheek.
It was not the kiss that was sweet, but Wen Conghan’s heart.
“Goodbye!” Ji Mianyue’s face was full of bashfulness. She stole a glance at Wen Conghan and ran straight into the dormitory building. As she entered, she was hopping and skipping like a joyful little rabbit.
Wen Conghan waited until Ji Mianyue’s figure had completely vanished before she touched the spot on her face where she had just been kissed.
Three days ago, a scene like this had not even entered Wen Conghan’s imagination. That was the first time she had met Ji Yanru and Shen Yuxin, her biological Mother and Mother.
Near A University, there was a high-end restaurant mostly frequented by professors or directors. The prices were simply too expensive for ordinary students to afford.
The same went for Wen Conghan. If her class advisor had not asked her to come, she never would have chosen to eat here. She had money, but her funds needed to be saved as the original capital for marrying Ji Mianyue later; she could not waste it on a place like this.
“So, what you two are saying is that you are my biological mothers?” Wen Conghan asked very calmly. The two ladies sitting across from her nodded.
“According to the paternity test, that is indeed the case.”
“We have already investigated the cause of what happened back then. No one intentionally swapped the children; it was an error made by the hospital.”
The woman wearing the slate-grey high-end suit was very composed. When she spoke, it did not sound like she was talking about her own child at all.
If anything, she seemed more like she was analyzing a case.
“Ji Yanru!” The other beautiful woman, dressed in a cheongsam, called out to her, signaling her to watch her expression and attitude.
“Conghan, we are telling you this because we hope to make it up to you.”
Shen Yuxin looked at her grown daughter and then thought of the daughter they had at home.
Her heart ached for both children. She truly did not want any rift to form between them due to the displacement of their identities.
The corners of Wen Conghan’s mouth curled up; she roughly understood what the two across from her meant.
“Actually, I am an adult and about to graduate from university. It would not have mattered if you never came to acknowledge this relationship, would it?”
“How do I know if you want me to return for the sake of family affection, or because one of you is in poor health?”
Wen Conghan offered a purely malicious guess, causing the faces of the two opposite her to turn unsightly.
“How can you talk to your mother like that?”
“You have no idea how much she suffered to give birth to you.”
Seeing the disobedient look on the child before her, Ji Yanru thought of her other daughter at home.
Comparatively, the Ji Mianyue who had been taken by mistake was much cuter than Wen Conghan.
“I indeed do not know, but the fact that I do not know was not caused by me. Are you blaming me, Ma’am?”
Wen Conghan looked at the two ladies, her tone confrontational with no intention of softening the atmosphere. She did not feel she needed mothers who suddenly appeared to claim kinship; the people who raised her had long since passed away.
Those two were the ones she truly needed to repay.
“Do you two think that just based on a piece of waste paper with questionable authenticity, I must burst into tears, kneel down, and be a good daughter?”
“Please give me a strand of hair from each of you. I will do the paternity test again myself.”
“Of course, if you do not like me, the paternity test can be skipped entirely.”
Wen Conghan’s attitude was extremely firm, so firm that Shen Yuxin’s heart sank as she felt a sense of familiarity.
Ji Yanru looked at the daughter in front of her, her eyebrows knitted tightly together.
Sensing her wife’s emotions, Shen Yuxin quickly patted her to calm her down.
“Child, we are not lying to you. It is only right for you to be cautious.”
“Whatever you want, we will do our best to compensate you.”
Hearing this, Wen Conghan finally showed some interest.
“What is the name of the person who swapped lives with me?”
“Or rather, what is your daughter’s name?”
Wen Conghan spoke bluntly and painfully; she was practically showing no mercy.
“How can you have such a temper? Mianyue is such a well-behaved child!”
The fire in Ji Yanru’s heart grew harder to suppress. Thinking of that person from back then, she slammed her hand on the table, letting out a loud thud.
Hearing her wife’s words, Shen Yuxin’s heart leaped into her throat.
How could she praise the other child in front of her biological one?
If a rift formed between the two, what would happen in the future?
They wanted both daughters, not for the two of them to become enemies. If that really happened, which one would they, as mothers, side with?
At the mention of the name “Mianyue,” Wen Conghan’s hands trembled slightly. However, she did her best to control herself so the two opposite her would not notice her emotions.
Surname Ji, named Mianyue.
“So, the person who swapped lives with me is named Ji Mianyue?”
Hearing her biological daughter say that name, Shen Yuxin felt a jolt of alarm but still nodded.
“Are you friends with Mianyue? Or do you know her?”
Shen Yuxin tested the waters cautiously. If the two children had already developed a grudge at school, that would be disastrous. She had not heard this name from Mianyue’s mouth before.
Upon hearing the confirmed answer, Wen Conghan’s mood improved significantly. The expression on her face was like jumping from a gloomy day straight into brilliant sunshine.
“Ji Mianyue and I are indeed good friends. I was being too out of line just now. My deepest apologies, ladies.”
Wen Conghan’s change in attitude was like a sudden shift from a freezing winter to a blossoming spring in a single second.
Ji Yanru looked at the child before her; one glance told her that Wen Conghan did not mean a word of it.
“Hmph.” Ji Yanru snorted coldly, clearly not believing her. Shen Yuxin gave her a look that said: “If you keep making trouble, you are sleeping in the study tonight.”
“Ahem, it is fine. I have my faults too; I should not have gotten so angry.” Ji Yanru immediately retracted the mockery from her face.
“So, do you two want to take me home? Have you told her about the mix-up yet?” Wen Conghan’s voice was gentle; her mild attitude made her seem like a completely different person.
This girl definitely wants something from us! Ji Yanru reached a conclusion in a split second.
“We have not told her yet. Mianyue is a rather fragile child.”
“When the holidays come, we hope you can come home first, and then we will tell her together. At home, she will feel safe and find it easier to accept.”
Shen Yuxin mentioned the other daughter, her expression becoming somewhat cautious, fearing her decision might make Wen Conghan uncomfortable.
Ji Yanru also made a promise at this time.
“Rest assured, we will absolutely not be biased.”
“Whatever Mianyue has, you will certainly have as well.”
As soon as Ji Yanru said this, she was elbowed again by her wife.
Making everything “the same” was, in itself, a form of bias.
“I do not really need that.”
“If you want to compensate me, then agree to one thing.” A slight smile suddenly appeared on Wen Conghan’s face, which had remained expressionless until now.
Neither Ji Yanru nor Shen Yuxin had expected this child to make a request on the very first day.
Did she want money? Property? Or did she want them to kick Mianyue out?
The first two were fine, but they really could not bring themselves to do the last one.
What happened back then was not Mianyue’s fault.
Wen Conghan was a bit puzzled to see the look of struggle on their faces.
But why were they struggling? She did not really care.
“I want to be the one to tell Ji Mianyue about us being swapped.”
“After all, we are friends to begin with. Please rest assured, I will not hurt her.”
Shen Yuxin never expected Wen Conghan to say such a thing. She looked at Wen Conghan’s face, which resembled her own mother’s.
However, there was clearly no expression of resentment on Wen Conghan’s face, nor did she look like she was planning some secret revenge.
Should they believe her?
“You… you will be the one to tell her?” Shen Yuxin looked at her wife and repeated the question.
Wen Conghan asked back with feigned surprise.
“Have you already told her? Is that why the news cannot come from me?”
Wen Conghan had not expected fate to give her such a massive gift. This gift was so large it made her heart race; every cell in her body was announcing its joy.
“That is not it, we have not told her yet.”
Shen Yuxin hesitated for a moment and looked at her wife again.
“Since you two have come to meet me, you must have brought the paternity test with you, right?”
Wen Conghan tried her best to be polite and immediately reached her hand out toward the two across from her.
“Could you lend me the paternity test and other documents? I am afraid Mianyue will not believe it.”
Seeing them hesitate, Wen Conghan then feigned surprise and sadness, saying, “Are you not giving them to me because you are afraid I will use them to hurt her?”
Hearing their inner thoughts voiced so directly, both women looked a bit embarrassed.
“We did not mean it like that. Do not be upset.”
Looking at her daughter, Shen Yuxin finally took the paternity test out of her bag.
“Don’t worry, I will not hurt her.”
“It will just take some time for her to accept this. Is three months okay?”
“In three months, we will be on winter break. I want to tell her slowly.”
Wen Conghan almost instantly calculated the time she needed in her head, then looked at the two opposite her with a gentle gaze.
Not even a professional face-changing actor could have switched as fast as she did.
“Ladies, please do not misunderstand. Although we were swapped, I do not think this is a bad thing for me.”
“The mothers who raised me were wonderful people. If they were still alive, I would never have agreed to swap identities back with Mianyue.”
