Married First, Loved Later with the Fake Heiress (ABO) - Chapter 6
“It is my fault. I trampled upon an Omega’s sincere heart.”
Wen Conghan spoke these words with genuine sincerity, yet she knew that if given another chance, she would do the exact same thing. Guan Nian did not give her a kinder look because of those words, as she was well aware of Wen Conghan’s true nature.
“Mianyue, do you believe her or me?”
Ji Mianyue looked between the two of them, feeling like the filling trapped in the middle of a sandwich. Seeing that Ji Mianyue did not speak, Guan Nian turned and walked away. It was not just because Ji Mianyue remained silent; rather, it was because Guan Nian realized at that moment that Wen Conghan was not wrong at all. She did not dare to tell Ji Mianyue about her true feelings. Family background was an external factor, but the real reason was that Guan Nian could not accept the possibility of losing Ji Mianyue forever after a confession.
Watching Guan Nian’s retreating back, Ji Mianyue immediately let go of Wen Conghan’s hand. She felt she had messed everything up. Had she humiliated Guan Nian? Before she could chase after her, Wen Conghan caught her hand.
“Student Wen, please do not hold me. She must be so sad.”
Hearing that formal address, Wen Conghan’s good mood instantly soured. Her emotions plummeted from heaven to hell in a single heartbeat.
“Mianyue, I understand how you feel. But think about it. If you go to her now, would it not make her feel even worse? After all, I just rejected her confession. I understand your thoughts, but how is she supposed to face you?”
Wen Conghan never felt there was anything wrong with using tactics; she only cared about the result. Hearing this, Ji Mianyue hesitated. She did not want to hurt Guan Nian a second time.
“I think Guan Nian is a good person.”
“Emotional issues are often accompanied by a loss of rationality. Mianyue, could you give her some time to think things through?”
Wen Conghan knew very well that she was only telling half the truth. If she let Ji Mianyue go now, there was a high probability that Guan Nian would confess. If that happened, she would truly be inviting a formidable love rival upon herself.
“Mianyue, take it slow. Do not rush, okay? Trust me. I will face everything together with you.” Wen Conghan held Ji Mianyue’s hand, offering promise after promise in a gentle voice.
“Really? I do not want you or Guan Nian to lose the chance to find true love just because of our fake marriage. If my situation can wait for a while…”
Ji Mianyue was that kind of person; she could not sacrifice the happiness of others for her own benefit. There are many people in the world who would harm others to profit themselves, but Ji Mianyue would never be one of them.
“Sigh.”
A trace of sadness filled Wen Conghan’s eyes as she gently held Ji Mianyue’s hand. “Mianyue, true love should be mutual. You seem to have never asked me if I like Guan Nian. Aside from Guan Nian, could you look at me too?”
Wen Conghan was a master of showing vulnerability; her voice even trembled slightly. Once she realized that Ji Mianyue was easily moved by a soft heart, she began to mimic and learn how to evoke that pity.
“I…”
Hearing these words, Ji Mianyue realized her own narrow-mindedness. “I am sorry! I am so sorry! I did not mean it that way.” Following Wen Conghan’s lead, Ji Mianyue’s eyes filled with apology. She had indeed failed to consider enough.
“Do not always apologize; you clearly did nothing wrong. You were just flustered and too considerate of others. I have never blamed you.” Wen Conghan’s words seemed to carry a special power. “If you still feel sorry, why don’t we go inside and watch the movie? The three tickets cannot be refunded, nor can the popcorn. If I cannot see the movie after being slapped, would that not be a bit pitiful?”
Wen Conghan did not use a heavy tone; her voice was light, filled only with a sense of request.
“Okay,” Ji Mianyue nodded. By the time the movie ended, Guan Nian should have calmed down a bit. Once they returned, she would definitely give Guan Nian a proper apology.
The process of watching the movie was actually quite pleasant. Wen Conghan’s rational side admitted that Guan Nian had good taste in films. It was a healing animated movie that had nothing to do with romance but held great significance for personal growth. It was a perfect choice for Guan Nian to bring Ji Mianyue to see. Since the subject matter was something Ji Mianyue liked, it would naturally leave a deep impression on her memory. Every time she thought of the movie, she would think of the person she watched it with. Sometimes, a soul-deep mark is made exactly like that.
Wen Conghan changed her opinion; Guan Nian was an opponent that could not be underestimated.
“This movie does not have a post-credits scene. If you need to use the restroom, you should go quickly. Once the movie is over, there will be a lot of people there.” Wen Conghan took Ji Mianyue’s bag and whispered into her ear. Her warm breath brushed against Ji Mianyue’s cheek, causing her heart to flutter.
“I will go right now.”
The distance was so close that Ji Mianyue began to stutter. How cute, Wen Conghan thought. She found it hard to understand how a person could be this adorable. She was so cute that Wen Conghan wanted to lock her firmly in her arms and never let her go anywhere else. However, if she actually dared to do that, Ji Mianyue would certainly hate her. It was a bit of a pity.
Wen Conghan did not go far; she waited near the restroom. She leaned against the cinema wall, her tall stature and sharp features drawing a great deal of attention. As the movie ended, the crowd grew, and more gazes fell upon her. To be honest, she did not like being stared at with such varied emotions. If she were not waiting for someone, Wen Conghan would have used a cold expression to repel anyone who dared to approach her.
“Hello, I was wondering if I could have your contact information?”
Another one. Wen Conghan maintained her gentle facade and rejected the request directly. “I am sorry, I already have a girlfriend.”
She did not expect that this polite refusal would be useless. The other person did not intend to give up. “I did not say I wanted anything specific. Can we not just be ordinary friends?”
This was a male Omega with short, neat hair. His eyes held undisguised desire.
“I am sorry, I am not in the habit of making friends next to a cinema restroom.” Wen Conghan was blunt. Unfortunately, the listener did not sense her impatience.
“Even if you have a girlfriend, do you not still lack a boyfriend? One more would not hurt.”
These persistent words caused Wen Conghan’s gentle mask to slip. Just as she was about to end it with a sharp sentence, she saw Ji Mianyue walking out of the restroom. Wen Conghan took three steps in two and arrived at Ji Mianyue’s side.
“Please respect yourself. I already have a girlfriend, and I do not want to give her any reason to misunderstand.”
The people watching also wanted to see if the person could get the contact information, and then they heard this. For an Alpha to keep such a distance from another Omega showed a truly strong sense of boundaries.
“Help me out, girlfriend,” Wen Conghan whispered into Ji Mianyue’s ear, her tone sounding a bit pitiful.
“I am her girlfriend! I will reject you on her behalf!” Ji Mianyue’s heart raced because of the proximity, and she spoke quickly. Hearing Wen Conghan ask for help, Ji Mianyue felt she should protect her.
“I just wanted contact information! Why are you two so old-fashioned and narrow-minded!” After being rejected, the male Omega walked away grumbling.
Only when she heard him insult Ji Mianyue did Wen Conghan’s face truly turn grim. Once they left the cinema, Wen Conghan wanted to take Ji Mianyue to dinner. She wanted them to spend more time together.
“I am sorry, but I still want to go back and check on Guan Nian.” Ji Mianyue hesitated. She really should go back. She had intended for today to be a surprise for her best friend, but it had turned out like this. No matter what, she should go back and comfort Guan Nian.
“I see.”
Wen Conghan suppressed the dark impulses in her heart, working hard to maintain a gentle and warm expression. “That is understandable. It has been two hours; she should have cleared her head. I will go back with you.”
Her plan to stay out longer was ruined. Wen Conghan had firmly noted Guan Nian as a rival.
“Oh, by the way, I want to give these to you.”
Ji Mianyue pulled out the bag she had brought. This tote bag did not look large, but it could actually hold a lot of things. Wen Conghan had never imagined that there would be things for her inside. Was she about to receive a gift? The tips of Wen Conghan’s ears began to turn pink.
“All of these are for you! Rest assured, I will not use a single penny of my family’s money to buy these things in the future. I will work hard at a part-time job!”
Wen Conghan looked at the pile of skincare products Ji Mianyue pulled out of the bag and fell into a strange silence. The gifts she expected turned out to be these things. Not only that, but Ji Mianyue actually wanted to go find a job.
Wen Conghan realized that if she did not correct the situation soon, her lies would surely be exposed.
