Male Lead, Please Don’t Covet the Mob Character Cannon Fodder (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 20
The three people outside the glass watched as Bai Gu, who carried inland taipan genes, approached “Fuxi” step by step. “Fuxi” indeed did not go into a frenzy because of his entry.
When Bai Gu came within three meters of “Fuxi,” he looked at the phosphorescent snake tail beneath him and could not help but lean down, wanting to reach out and touch it.
However, the moment he tried, trouble ensued. Before his hand could even brush against the scales, that snake tail, as thick as an adult’s thigh, swung with lightning speed and sent him flying.
“Pfft. Cough, cough.” Bai Gu collapsed by the glass door, spitting blood.
Seeing his miserable state, Vincent hurried over with his men to drag him out, pulling a healing potion from his watch space to feed him.
After Bai Gu was rescued, the Male Lead opened his narrow eyelids. He slithered over to the glass where Qingshi and the others were standing, looking down at them from a superior height.
Those deep, dark-green vertical pupils carried the fierce cruelty of a beast, scanning everyone coldly before finally landing on Qingshi.
Bai Lin frowned as he watched “Fuxi’s” reaction, appearing as though he had encountered a difficult problem. “That should not be the case.”
“Captain Ji, has ‘Fuxi’ been fed since being brought back to the research park? Having just woken from a deep sleep, he should need to eat a large amount to replenish his strength.”
Qingshi was currently locked in a staring contest with the Male Lead. At those words, he turned to ask his deputy, “Vincent?”
“Captain, Mr. Bai Lin, ‘Fuxi’ has not eaten since arriving at the research park. Whether it is dead or live prey, he treats everything put inside with utter disdain,” Vincent replied.
Bai Lin sighed, “No wonder he is so fierce.”
The Male Lead had gone without food for over thirty hours?
Qingshi clicked his tongue softly; he could not let the man come to harm under his watch. “Vincent, bring the food meant for him over here.”
Vincent brought several frozen mackerel icefish, each about a meter long, which was the most common food in the Antarctic.
Enduring his disgust, Qingshi grabbed a fish by the tail and dragged it into the glass-walled room where the Male Lead was kept.
As soon as he entered, the Male Lead slithered straight toward Qingshi. His long tail dragged across the floor; when he propped himself up, he was more than two heads taller than Qingshi.
The height difference was vast. Qingshi pursed his lips and stared at the Male Lead. He did not sense any intent to attack, so he did not react defensively; he wanted to see exactly what the Male Lead intended to do.
The Male Lead stopped one meter in front of Qingshi, right on the threshold of the social distance Qingshi found acceptable.
A broad, forked snake tongue flicked out from between pale, thin lips, as if exploring something.
The deep green eyes stared at Qingshi without blinking.
“Qing.”
A familiar, raspy male voice emerged from the Male Lead’s slightly parted lips. Qingshi froze.
Was the Male Lead calling his name?
“Heavens, he can speak! He is an intelligent being!” Bai Gu’s noisy voice drifted in from outside the glass.
Qingshi snapped back to reality and tossed the fish in his hand in front of the Male Lead, saying concisely, “Eat.”
Jia looked at the fish at his feet and then at his marked mate. Realizing the fish was food brought by his mate, he picked it up, sliced the skin open with his fingers, and began to gnaw on the meat elegantly.
Seeing the Male Lead start eating, Qingshi breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave. However, the moment he moved his foot, the Male Lead looked up at him. Only after Qingshi stopped did the Male Lead continue eating.
Troublesome.
Qingshi was forced to stand there and watch the Male Lead eat ten mackerel icefish in a row before he sensed a feeling of fullness from the creature’s satisfied expression.
“Pardon me, Mr. Bai Lin, I have some matters to handle. Vincent will take over the tour for you,” Qingshi said, excusing himself to Bai Lin. Unable to stand the fishy smell on his body, he took his leave.
With veins bulging on his forehead, Qingshi walked quickly back to his quarters. He took three showers in a row before finally suppressing the disgusting fishy smell.
For several days in a row, Qingshi dreamed every night that he was engaged in “indescribable” acts.
He realized something was wrong. No matter how thirsty he might be, he would not be thinking about this every single day, would he?
With dark circles under his eyes, Qingshi went to Meng Xi for a full body check-up.
“Your readings are perfectly normal. In fact, they are even more stable than before. Nothing is wrong!” Meng Xi said after analyzing the data on the screen.
Qingshi rubbed his temples. “If everything is normal, then why am I having those dreams every day?”
Could it be that the Male Lead did something to him?
Through his gloves, Qingshi touched his left wrist, where the two now-vanished canine marks once were.
Meng Xi noticed the dark circles under Qingshi’s eyes. “Qingshi, you must be too tired. Why don’t you take a vacation?”
Qingshi rolled his eyes at him. “If I could take a vacation, why would I come to find you?”
Meng Xi shrugged. “True, our Captain Ji is a busy man.”
“I am leaving.”
With that, Qingshi opened the door and walked out.
“Captain Ji.” Bai Lin walked out of the research park and called out to Qingshi.
Qingshi nodded to him. “Mr. Bai Lin, is there something?”
Bai Lin replied, “It is like this: ‘Fuxi’ still refuses to eat, so I was wondering if I could trouble you to go feed him again.”
Qingshi frowned imperceptibly. “Is your student still unable to feed him?”
Bai Lin said awkwardly, “Bai Gu has not yet gained ‘Fuxi’s’ trust. At most, he can only get within one meter of him.”
“Fine.” Qingshi pressed his tongue against his side teeth, agreeing to Bai Lin’s request. “When should I feed him? Now?”
“Yes, that would be great.” Bai Lin nodded repeatedly.
“Then let us go over.” Qingshi tugged at his gloves and entered the research park.
The Male Lead was still in the previous nano-glass room, but someone had placed a black leather sofa inside.
The Male Lead was lying lazily on the sofa, his eyes half-squinted, and the tip of his tail swayed back and forth on the floor.
That leisurely appearance made the hardworking Qingshi, who worked year-round without rest, feel quite envious.
“Teacher.” Bai Gu noticed Bai Lin and Qingshi approaching, but he only greeted Bai Lin.
Qingshi did not care about his lack of respect and simply asked, “Where is the food?”
“Bai Gu, give the food to Captain Ji. Let him feed him today,” Bai Lin instructed Bai Gu.
Bai Gu pouted, reluctantly handing the spatial watch containing the mackerel icefish to Qingshi.
“Tsk.” Qingshi took out some disinfectant and sprayed it all over the watch before taking it, much to Bai Gu’s disbelief.
As soon as he opened the glass door and entered, the Male Lead snapped his eyes open and slithered toward Qingshi like a cat smelling fish.
Qingshi poured out the ten fish from the watch. “Eat.”
“Wife came to feed me again, happy!” Eating the fish, the tip of Jia’s tail curled up quietly.
“Teacher, there is nothing snake-related in his genetic profile. Why is ‘Fuxi’ so close to him?” Bai Gu watched “Fuxi” being so obedient in front of Qingshi and felt very jealous.
Bai Lin had a thoughtful expression. “Perhaps ‘Fuxi’s’ magnetic field is more compatible with Captain Ji.”
“Hmph.” Bai Gu gave a disdainful snort. He felt he should be the one closest to and most loved by “Fuxi.” What did Ji Qingshi count for? He had only spent two more days with “Fuxi” than he had.
Watching the Male Lead finish eating, Qingshi tossed the watch back to Bai Gu. “I have things to do. I will be leaving first, Mr. Bai Lin.”
Bai Lin smiled at him. “Take care, Captain Ji.”
“No. None of it is right. What else could work?” Bai Lin sank into deep thought while looking at the research reports covering his desk. After a while, as if remembering something, he murmured, “Right, there is still that one thing I have not obtained.”
Saying this, Bai Lin opened the laboratory door just as Qingshi was coming out of the glass room after finishing a feeding.
This was already the fourth time this month Qingshi had come to feed the Male Lead.
After Bai Gu had attempted to force a feeding and was nearly slapped to death by the tail, he no longer had the courage to perform this task. Thus, the job was forced upon Qingshi, adding more weight to his already heavy workload.
“Captain Ji, can we talk?” Bai Lin stopped Qingshi, who was preparing to leave.
A faint look of confusion appeared in Qingshi’s eyes, but he walked over nonetheless. “What do you wish to talk to me about, Mr. Bai Lin?”
Bai Lin opened the large door to the lab. “Come in and speak.”
“Alright.”
After Qingshi walked in, Bai Lin closed the door. Seeing this, Bai Gu, who had been observing “Fuxi,” crept over and pressed his ear to the crack in the door to eavesdrop.
“Captain Ji, I would like to ask you for a favor,” Bai Lin began.
“Go ahead.” Seeing no emotional fluctuation on Bai Lin’s face, Qingshi planned to hear the specific details first.
Bai Lin picked up the paper reports on the table, flipping through them one by one. “It is like this: I have been unable to obtain the genetic fragments I want from ‘Fuxi’s’ blood, scales, hair, or saliva.”
“And so? What do you need me to do?” Qingshi did not understand how he could help with this.
Bai Lin continued, “There is one thing on ‘Fuxi’s’ body we have not yet collected. I hope Captain Ji can help retrieve it. After all, you are the only one who can get close to him while he is awake.”
“What is it?”
When Qingshi’s questioning gaze fell on his face, Bai Lin gave a slight smile. “Semen.”
“…” Qingshi almost thought he had misheard. What kind of scandalous request was this?
Grinding his teeth, Qingshi’s eyes turned cold. “I refuse.”
Without waiting for Bai Lin to respond, he opened the door and walked out, nearly colliding with Bai Gu at the entrance.
“Do you not have eyes? Watch where you are walking,” Bai Gu snapped, striking first.
Qingshi gave him a cold glance, stepped around him, and left the area.
“What an impolite fellow!” Bai Gu glared fiercely at Qingshi’s back, then awkwardly opened the laboratory door.
“Teacher, did you not say that I should be the primary contact for ‘Fuxi’? Why did you ask that stone-faced man to collect the semen?” Bai Gu grumbled. “And he even refused.”
Bai Lin looked at Bai Gu with no emotion. “Is it not because you are useless? After all these days, you still cannot get close to ‘Fuxi.’ I, your teacher, had to ask someone else for the sake of the research progress.”
“If there is nothing else, go spend more time with ‘Fuxi’.”
“Yes.” Bai Gu squeezed the word out from between his teeth, clenching his fists as he turned and left the lab.
Bang! A fist smashed hard against the nano-glass, and blood blossomed like a vivid red flower.
Bai Gu’s features were contorted, and his gaze was full of resentment, carrying a terrifying hunger.
Ji Qingshi! Clearly, he was the one most compatible with “Fuxi,” and that was why Teacher Bai Lin had brought him along specifically. Why did a Ji Qingshi have to appear!
Bai Gu looked up at “Fuxi” inside the glass. Aside from when Ji Qingshi came to feed him, the creature was listless at all other times. Bai Gu’s expression shifted as he seemed to reach a certain decision.
As long as he obtained the semen first, the teacher would surely look at him with new eyes. What did Ji Qingshi count for!
