Male Lead, Please Don’t Covet the Mob Character Cannon Fodder (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 19
Is he truly unconscious this time?
Qingshi struggled to climb out from the coils of the male lead’s tail. Panting, he stood up from the ground. He first frowned deeply at his combat uniform, which was stained with dark green blood, then thought of the wound on his wrist. He yanked off his left glove and tossed it to the ground.
Fortunately, there were only two deep red dots.
Like hell it’s “fortunate!” Qingshi took a disinfectant from his watch space and sprayed it onto his wrist as if it cost nothing. He felt as though his entire being had been defiled.
“Captain, we’re here!” The late-arriving Jiang Ming and his nine team members stared wide-eyed at the disheveled Qingshi.
“Captain, what happened to you?” Jiang Ming asked cautiously.
Qingshi closed his eyes, suppressing the urge to immediately undergo a full-body disinfection and shower. He shot a cold glance at Jiang Ming. “Tie that thing on the ground up and take it back. Move it!”
“Yes, Captain!”
The group returned to the base at maximum speed. Qingshi did not wait for Jiang Ming to open the door for him; he pulled it open himself and hopped out, leaving Jiang Ming and the others with nothing but a cold, arrogant view of his back.
“Send the thing to the Research Park.”
“Yes!”
“Hiss,” Wu Feng rubbed the goosebumps on his arms and lamented, “How terrifying.”
It was only when the cool disinfectant spray hit his skin that Qingshi’s destructive impulses were brought under control.
Ji Qingshi was a patient in the early stages of Genetic Collapse Syndrome. His severe mysophobia was one of the symptoms brought about by the disease.
The Federation usually dismissed soldiers suffering from Genetic Collapse, but Ji Qingshi was unwilling to wait for death. Consequently, he requested to be sent to the Antarctica Research Base. Thus, he was not only the Captain of the Guard but also an experimental subject participating in the trials.
Of course, to avoid causing panic, his secondary identity was known only to his primary researcher.
“Master, welcome home.”
Entering his room, Qingshi was warmly greeted by his robot butler, but he ignored it. He stripped off his clothes and headed straight for the bathroom.
As warm water fell from above, Qingshi frowned at the marks on his wrist. He could not help but rub them a few times. Unexpectedly, when his fingers touched the dots, which had turned pink, a surge of numbness and itching shot directly to his brain from the wound.
“Ngh!” Qingshi’s legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed to his knees. He hurriedly moved his hand away and stopped touching it.
After a hurried bath, Qingshi dressed and went to the Research Park to find Meng Xi.
Meng Xi was a top graduate from the Federation Medical University and one of the senior researchers at Dawn Base.
As bright red blood was drawn from his vein, Meng Xi placed the tube into the testing device. “Wait ten minutes.”
“Alright.”
Qingshi pulled down his rolled-up sleeve and walked out of Meng Xi’s private laboratory.
Surrounded by silver-grey cubicles was a patch of green; that was the base’s Research Park, officially named the Ecological Maintenance System Research Park.
The park covered about 5,000 square meters, partitioned into different zones by reinforced glass. It could simulate suitable living environments for various organisms and was specially built for ancient creatures. The glass outer walls allowed researchers to better observe their subjects.
Standing before the outer glass, Qingshi suddenly heard the sound of glass shattering from within. Then, he saw the ecosystem inside the park being smashed through layer by layer by a dark green figure.
“Fuxi escaped again!”
“Stop him!”
“Tranquilizer guns, fire quickly!”
“It’s no use! He is too fast; we cannot get a lock!”
The entire Research Park was in total chaos.
Qingshi frowned as he watched. Just as he was about to go in and help, he saw that dark green figure rush straight toward him, then hit the outer nano-reinforced glass with a thud.
Hearing that crisp, dull sound, Qingshi only wanted to ask if the male lead’s head was okay. This was the hardest glass currently in existence within the Federation.
{%?#…}
As he locked eyes with those deep green beastly pupils, a low, raspy male voice suddenly appeared in Qingshi’s mind.
Qingshi was stunned. Had his condition worsened to the point of auditory hallucinations?
{%…}
“Bang!” The voice appeared again briefly, but because of a gunshot, only one syllable came through. Qingshi watched as the male lead inside the glass slowly slid to the floor due to the tranquilizer.
88, can the male lead speak?
886: The male lead is an intelligent being; of course he can speak!
So just now, the male lead was talking to him? But he did not seem to see the male lead move his mouth.
“Captain Ji, the results are out.” Meng Xi came out with a report, just in time to see the male lead being dragged away. “‘Fuxi’ rioted again? Captain Ji, you really brought a big problem back to our Research Park. In just these few short hours, he has destroyed countless sheets of tempered glass.”
Qingshi crossed his arms and said indifferently, “Then should I put him back?”
“Pfft, I’d love to agree,” Meng Xi laughed, “but unfortunately, the Council will not. ‘Fuxi’ is the first living specimen from thirty billion years ago that we have ever captured.”
Qingshi shrugged. “Then deal with it. I am only responsible for bringing him back, not for the research.”
“Fine, fine,” Meng Xi shook his head helplessly. “Your blood test is fine. There are no signs of poisoning.”
Qingshi frowned. “Then why did the wound feel like that?”
Meng Xi stroked his chin. “Perhaps it’s a skin stress response. Heinos Nagas do not possess venom; they are powerful enough to tear prey apart directly.”
Qingshi pursed his lips. “Alright then. I will be going.”
In the dead of night.
A slight flush crept onto the cool face of the young man sleeping soundly in his white single bed. A suppressed groan escaped from his nose.
His brow furrowed slightly, and the flush on his face deepened. His long, fair fingers gripped the sheets tightly, and the thin quilt at his waist rose and fell in an undulating arc.
Dull blue eyes slowly opened. Qingshi threw back the covers and sat up. Looking at the mess beneath the quilt, his head was full of question marks.
As a New Human, Ji Qingshi had always been free of worldly desires. How could such an absurd dream suddenly occur?
Qingshi stood up and headed for the bathroom, calling out to his robot butler as he walked, “Sixteen, change the sheets.”
“Yes, Master.”
The hot water washed away the stickiness, but Qingshi could still faintly feel the sensation of something coarse yet slippery rubbing against his skin, forcing him to recall the dream.
He could not remember exactly what happened, only that his legs seemed to be tightly entangled by something.
Qingshi could not help but press a hand to his forehead. Why would he suddenly? Could it be that being single for too long had turned him into a pervert?
Unable to figure it out, Qingshi lost all desire for sleep. Sitting at the head of the bed, he opened his communication bracelet to arrange the morning schedule for the guard team. At that moment, he noticed a few unread messages in his inbox.
They were from Meng Xi. The gist was that the Alliance had sent a higher-level researcher to take over ‘Fuxi.’ The researcher would arrive tomorrow afternoon, and Qingshi needed to arrange for his reception.
A new researcher? Qingshi frowned and replied with “Received.”
“Hello, I am Bai Lin.”
Qingshi looked at the handsome man in his fifties or sixties before him, feeling somewhat shocked. Bai Lin was the researcher who discovered Factor X and was a legendary figure within the Federation. He had not expected the man himself to come.
“Hello. I am Ji Qingshi, Captain of the Dawn Base Guard Team.” Qingshi nodded slightly to Bai Lin, then turned his gaze to the young man in his twenties behind him. “And this is?”
“He is my student and assistant, Bai Gu,” Bai Lin introduced.
“I see.” Qingshi stepped back, revealing his deputy, Vincent, behind him. “Please open your watch spaces. We need to check for contraband.”
“There are so many rules in this dump?” Bai Gu sneered.
Qingshi did not respond, merely staring at him in silence. Bai Gu’s arrogant attitude withered under his freezing aura.
“That’s enough, Bai Gu. It’s just a routine inspection; we should cooperate,” Bai Lin intervened to smooth things over.
Bai Gu responded with a reluctant “Oh.”
Vincent quickly scanned the two with a device. “Captain, it is green.”
Qingshi nodded and said to Bai Lin, “Mr. Bai Lin, your quarters and laboratory have been arranged. Would you like to tour the base first, or rest?”
“We want to see ‘Fuxi’ first!” Bai Gu interrupted.
Qingshi glanced at him and then back at Bai Lin. Bai Lin gave a helpless smile. “Please forgive me; my student’s personality is a bit impulsive. Let’s do as he says. Captain Ji, please take us to see ‘Fuxi’.”
Bai Lin was certainly indulgent toward this student’s attitude.
“Very well. Please follow me.”
Qingshi led the two into the Research Park. The male lead was confined in a square space on the left outer perimeter, surrounded entirely by nano-reinforced glass.
At this time, the male lead’s tail was curled together. He sat with his back against the glass and his eyes closed, seemingly resting.
Upon seeing the male lead, Bai Gu’s eyes lit up. He rushed past Bai Lin and Qingshi to the glass, gazing at him with an obsessed expression. His ochre pupils had turned into two vertical slits, and he muttered to himself, “Is this ‘Fuxi’? Such a handsome face, such a superior physique…”
However, when he noticed the Spartan environment the male lead was in, his brow furrowed. He turned to glare at Qingshi. “How can your Dawn Base treat a precious experimental subject so dismissively! Forget the lack of a simulated environment, how can you lock ‘Fuxi’ in such a cramped space?!”
Qingshi showed no interest in entertaining him.
“Mr. Bai Gu, it’s like this: ‘Fuxi’ is too destructive. Ordinary reinforced glass cannot hold him at all,” Vincent stepped forward to explain. “Since he entered the Research Park, he has destroyed five ecosystems. We were forced to arrange this all-nano-glass space for him.”
“Is that so…” Bai Gu muttered as he turned back. “As recorded, he truly possesses immense strength.”
Bai Lin also stood before the glass, carefully observing the male lead. “Truly worthy of being the overlord from thirty billion years ago. The fusion of the human body and serpent tail is perfect.”
“Teacher, can I go in and see him!” Bai Gu suddenly said with great excitement.
Hearing Bai Gu’s words, Qingshi raised an eyebrow. Was he looking for death?
Seeing that Bai Gu was about to open the door to face the vicious ‘Fuxi,’ and that Qingshi had no intention of stepping in to stop him, Deputy Captain Vincent had to step out and advise them. “Mr. Bai Gu, ‘Fuxi’ is very dangerous. No researcher has been able to get near him while he is conscious. Would you like to administer a tranquilizer before entering?”
“No need.” Bai Gu headstrongly opened the door and went inside.
Vincent cast a pleading look toward his captain. Seeing that Qingshi remained silent, he looked toward Bai Lin.
“It’s alright. Bai Gu has Taipan snake genes in his body. He shares a common origin with ‘Fuxi’; it will not trigger ‘Fuxi’s’ rejection,” Bai Lin said with a smile, comforting Vincent.
