- Chapter 21 - Naga (4)
Meng Xi stared silently at Qingshi inside the transparent medical scanning chamber. His gaze drifted downward, tracing the superior arch of Qingshi’s brow, his long eyelashes, the bridge of his straight nose, and his pale, thin lips.
His eyes lingered for a long time on the rounded bead of Qingshi’s upper lip.
He wondered if it would turn an alluring color after being kissed intensely.
Probably no one would dare to do such a thing; after all, the owner of this face always used a sharp demeanor to mask his beauty like a flower with thorns that no one dared to pluck.
Meng Xi could not help but recall his first meeting with Qingshi. Back then, he was just an ordinary student at a medical university. On his way home, he had been caught in a terrorist attack. Qingshi had descended before him like a savior, making quick work of those vicious criminals.
Powerful, beautiful, and fragile—it was a paradox that these three contradictory traits could exist simultaneously in one person.
Perhaps Qingshi no longer remembered him, but not a day went by that Meng Xi forgot that figure or the cool touch of that well-defined hand.
That was the first time he had held Qingshi’s hand.
Meng Xi looked at the silver-white glove on Qingshi’s hand.
It was also the last time.
From then on, he frantically collected everything related to the man.
He learned that Qingshi was the youngest Major General in the Federation and a strong contender for the next Federation Council. To be closer to him, Meng Xi fought his way into the Federation Central Academy.
However, he never expected that their second meeting would bring the news that Qingshi had become a victim of Gene Collapse Syndrome. Hearing that Qingshi had requested a transfer to Antarctica, Meng Xi filed his own report to follow without a second thought.
Moving from the prosperous Main City to the barren Antarctic continent, he became Qingshi’s primary physician and his researcher. This was likely the most intimate relationship they would ever have in this lifetime.
As he thought about this, the corners of Meng Xi’s mouth lifted slightly.
A slender finger, wrapped in a form-fitting silver-white glove, tapped lightly on the metal tabletop. “What are you thinking about that makes you smile so happily?”
Meng Xi snapped back to reality and gave an embarrassed laugh. “Nothing much. Is the check-up finished?”
Qingshi replied, “What do you think?”
“Wait a moment; let me check the results.” Meng Xi hurriedly pulled up Qingshi’s diagnostic report. “Hm, the degree of genetic disorder has worsened slightly, but it has not exceeded the threshold. We can stick to the maintenance dosage.”
Having said that, Meng Xi put on sterile gloves and retrieved a red reagent from the freezer. The label on the tube was marked with a large “X.”
He drew a dose into a syringe and placed it on a tray. “Alright. Do you still want to do it yourself?”
“Mhm.” Qingshi stepped forward, rolled up his sleeve, and injected the dose into his body without blinking.
After the injection, Qingshi straightened his clothes and bid Meng Xi farewell. “I am leaving.”
Behind him, Meng Xi stared blankly at his departing back. Only when Qingshi was out of sight did he look down and give a self-deprecating smile.
Late one night a few days later, while the Dawn Base was silent, a stealthy figure arrived outside the glass doors where Fuxi was being held.
Spraying a mixture of three tubes of estrus-inducing agents and anesthetics into Fuxi’s enclosure, Bai Gu panted heavily, excitedly anticipating what would happen next.
After waiting specifically for a few extra minutes, Bai Gu quietly opened the glass door, looking at the fallen Fuxi.
His yellowish pupils turned into vertical slits, and he began to emit a sickly sweet scent—the smell of female Taipan snake hormones.
Meanwhile, Qingshi was awakened from his sleep by the urgent ringing of his communicator. It was a call from Vice Captain Vincent.
Normally, Vincent would not call him in the middle of the night unless there was an emergency. Qingshi pressed the accept button, and Vincent’s urgent voice came through:
“Captain, Fuxi has escaped. I have locked down all entrances and exits of the base, but we have not yet found any trace of him.”
A deep furrow appeared between Qingshi’s brows. “Notify all researchers to stay inside for now. The entire Guard Team is to mobilize and conduct a thorough search of the base!”
“Yes, sir!”
After giving the orders, Qingshi changed his clothes and headed out, intending to check the base surveillance. However, as soon as he stepped out, he collided head-on with the Male Lead, who was covered in injuries.
The dark green serpent tail was covered in gruesome, gaping wounds, and his upper body was drenched in green blood. His right shoulder, in particular, had a gash so deep the bone was visible.
At this moment, the Male Lead’s deep green eyes were tinged with a predatory crimson. Qingshi’s scalp felt numb under his gaze.
What was wrong with the Male Lead? Could this be the point where he was supposed to be killed?
[Ding!] [Plot Progression Task: Provoke the Male Lead. Time Limit: 3 minutes.]
Hearing the task, Qingshi felt a bit of a headache. In the Male Lead’s current state, did he even need provoking? It felt like the creature could whip him to death at any second. Was the system afraid he would not die fast enough?
With a silent click of his tongue, Qingshi pulled out his gun and fired a shot at the Male Lead’s healthy left shoulder. This time, it was not a tranquilizer, but an energy bolt.
Crack! A fist-sized hole exploded on Jia’s shoulder. The pain only served to boil his blood further. Right now, he only wanted to seize the mate before him, pin him down, and mate violently to release the heat burning inside him.
Seeing the Male Lead rush toward him at high speed, Qingshi thought his provocation had worked. When he saw the serpent tail swinging toward him, he even intentionally moved toward the impact.
To his surprise, the tail wrapped around his waist, pulling him firmly into the Male Lead’s embrace.
Straddling the serpent body at the Male Lead’s waist, Qingshi was stunned for a moment. He instinctively raised his hand to fire another shot, but his vision suddenly began to swim.
Not now. Why manifest at this exact moment? Did I not just take the medicine recently?
The heavy energy gun slipped from his weak fingertips. Qingshi bit his lip, his expression pained as he fought against his chaotic mind. Unfortunately, the Male Lead chose that moment to cause more trouble.
As Jia inhaled the cold fragrance of the mate in his arms, the last shred of his sanity snapped.
The slender tip of the tail wound up from behind Qingshi to encircle his fair, slender neck. Jia flicked his tongue out, invading the warm mouth that had opened due to a lack of oxygen.
“Mm…” A long, slender tongue entwined with a soft one. The forked tip seemed to reach deep into his throat. Saliva that could not be swallowed trickled from the corners of their joined lips.
Qingshi’s vision went dark in waves. He did not know if it was from oxygen deprivation or something else.
Finally, the turmoil in his mind began to subside. Qingshi regained some strength. He felt as though there were two thorny tree trunks against his thighs; he did not dare think about what they actually were. “Stop… stop…” A muffled refusal was squeezed from his invaded throat.
However, the beast before him clearly had no intention of letting him go. Hearing his voice only made the creature deepen the possession more excitedly.
Slippery scales rubbed against his skin. This strange sensation began to overlap with the absurd dreams Qingshi had been having for a long time.
“No…” Physiological tears fell from the corners of his eyes. His hands, clad in silver-white gloves, carved ten white marks into Jia’s resilient skin.
[Task timed out and uncompleted.] [Penalty: Combat power reduced by 10, Sensitivity increased by 10.]
The moment he received the penalty, Qingshi felt his once powerful body grow significantly heavier, while the sensations where the Male Lead touched him became even more vivid.
What kind of penalty is this? This is perverted!
“Captain!”
Bang! Bang! Bang! Several gunshots rang out.
Having lost his reason, the Male Lead did not notice the newcomers and was hit directly. A massive amount of tranquilizer entered his bloodstream, suppressing the fire in his heart.
Jia shielded the mate in his arms as he collapsed to the ground, closing his eyes unwillingly.
“Captain, are you alright?!” Vincent rushed up to rescue Qingshi from Jia’s embrace.
As their tongues separated, a lingering silver thread of saliva connected them. This scandalous scene caused Vincent and the team members behind him to flush.
The Captain looked… erotic!
“Hah…” Qingshi collapsed into Vincent’s arms, panting. It took a long time for his vision to stop swimming.
“I am fine,” Qingshi said, gritting his teeth as he stood up. “Arrange for people to handle Fuxi. Report the specific details to me in the Central Hall in one hour.”
“Yes, sir.” Vincent looked at Qingshi’s swaying figure and asked worriedly, “Are you truly alright?”
“Stop rambling and go.” Qingshi leaned against the wall, his expression as cold as usual, though his swollen, reddened lips and the flush at the corners of his eyes severely diminished his “do not approach” aura.
“Understood.”
The Guard Team members kept their heads down as they dragged Fuxi away, not daring to look at their Captain, who looked as if he had been toyed with. Otherwise, they feared they would harbor delusions that might get them shot by the Captain.
Once the last team member left, Qingshi slowly made his way back to his room. After a full-body disinfection, he stepped into the bathroom.
Looking at the red marks coiled around his pale skin, Qingshi pressed his hand to his forehead in distress.
—886, is there something wrong with the Male Lead?
Upon hearing this, 886’s alertness spiked instantly: What happened? Did the Male Lead do something earth-shattering again?
—It was not quite that exaggerated, but he ran out today and met me, yet he did not try to kill me…
Qingshi concealed the excessive things the Male Lead had done to him.
886: Did the Male Lead escape?
—No, he was captured.
886 relaxed: Then it is fine. Perhaps your death scene is not meant to happen here. Let us wait and see.
—…Alright.
Qingshi touched his left wrist and gave a slight sigh.
Central Hall
The thirteen group leaders of the Dawn Base Guard Team, along with Vice Captain Vincent, sat on both sides of the square table. Silence spread through the air.
Qingshi sat at the head of the table, watching them for a long time without speaking.
“Let the patrol group speak first. What happened tonight?”
Zhang Ke, the leader of Patrol Group 3, stood up. “Reporting to the Captain. At 3:15 AM today, Fuxi broke through the nano-glass in the research park and escaped. Several bloodstains and the body of researcher Bai Gu were found at the scene.”
“Investigation of the surveillance footage confirmed that researcher Bai Gu conducted private experiments, which caused Fuxi to go berserk.”
“The patrol group received the alarm and mobilized fully. We brought Fuxi back at 3:45 AM. Aside from Bai Gu, there were no other casualties.”
After Zhang Ke finished his report and seeing that Qingshi remained silent, Vincent took over. “Gentlemen, although only one person died tonight, Bai Gu was, after all, the student of Mr. Bai Lin. We must give them an explanation.”
“Damn it! That kid probably did some shady experiments himself. Now that he is dead, we are the ones stuck cleaning up his mess,” the hot-tempered Jiang Ming could not help but swear.
“Exactly!” others chimed in.
Qingshi raised his hand to signal for silence. “The entirety of Patrol Group 3 will receive punishment. Starting today, increase night patrols. I do not want tonight’s incident to happen again. As for Mr. Bai Lin’s side…” He rubbed his throbbing temples. “I will go and communicate with him.”
“Yes, Captain!”
“Meeting adjourned.” Qingshi stood up and walked out of the hall. He hesitated between going to Meng Xi for another check-up or going to see Bai Lin. Finally, he turned and made a choice.
It was this very choice that led him from one mistake to another, stepping right into a trap meticulously laid by others.
