- Chapter 97 - We Agree to This Marriage
Long Ling’s chin rested on Violet’s smooth, long hair. She gently patted Violet’s back and softly said, “Don’t cry anymore, Violet, I will always love you and will belong only to you from now on.”
Violet inhaled the strawberry scent on Long Ling, feeling an unprecedented sense of security.
She still felt a little unreal. “Long Ling, are you really going to marry me?”
Long Ling sat up straight and gently rubbed the top of Violet’s head. “Yes, I’ve already customized the wedding ring. We can get married whenever you want.”
Violet took Long Ling’s hand and held it in her palm. “I want to get married right now.”
Long Ling blushed, feeling a bit flustered. “But I’m not ready yet.”
Violet and Long Ling’s noses touched lightly. She said dotingly, “Silly girl, I was just thinking. A wedding requires a lot of preparation. How could a little dragon like you manage it all? Our wedding should be grand, so everyone knows we’re married.”
Their foreheads pressed together, and their sharp noses bumped several times.
Violet’s eyelashes fluttered, and crystal tears fell, her dark-golden eyes full of tenderness. Her cold and stunning face carried a touch of softness that wasn’t usually there.
Long Ling cupped her face with both hands, using her thumb to affectionately wipe away the tears at the corners of Violet’s eyes. “I’ll prepare it with you.”
Violet lightly rubbed Long Ling’s palm with her cheek and softly said, “Okay. First, help me put on the ring.”
Violet rarely made such a coquettish gesture. Long Ling felt a tickle in her heart, as if it were being brushed by a small feather, and her heartbeat quickened.
She quickly took the ring out of the box, first holding Violet’s fair and slender hand, and slowly sliding the ring onto Violet’s middle finger.
Violet watched Long Ling’s cautious look, and her eyes filled with a soft glow. She gently reminded her, “It should be the ring finger, Long Ling. I will be your wife from now on.”
Long Ling’s heart trembled. Although she had already proposed to Violet, hearing Violet personally confirm she was her wife felt different.
She felt sweet and happy, but her eyes welled up, giving her an urge to cry.
After so many years of being alone, enduring so much hardship and grievance, she finally had someone to hold hands with until old age.
Long Ling took a deep breath, fighting back the tears, and slipped the ring onto Violet’s ring finger, pushing it slowly from the fingertip to the base.
Violet carefully examined the ring on her hand, removed her original ruby ring, and left only the one Long Ling gave her on her finger. “It’s very beautiful. Thank thanks, my dear. I really like this ring.”
Long Ling’s eyes sparkled, and a brilliant smile spread across her face. “I’m glad you like it.”
Violet touched Long Ling’s cheek, placed the large bouquet of magical flowers beside the bed, and leaned into Long Ling’s arms. “When did you prepare this? I feel like I’m dreaming. You proposed to me as soon as I woke up. I will never forget this day for the rest of my life.”
Surprises, of course, had to be prepared in secret. Violet’s current level of satisfaction perfectly met her expectations.
Long Ling watched Violet continually stroking the new ring on her hand. “I prepared it when I returned to Leeward Continent this time. We aren’t married yet, this is just the proposal, Violet. We will have many more happy moments in the future.”
Violet affectionately complained, “It’s so good to be with you.”
Long Ling kissed Violet’s forehead. “I think so too.”
Violet’s lips curved up. When the little strawberry dragon was sweet, she couldn’t help but want to gobble her up.
Long Ling’s love for her, it turned out, was no less than her own.
Violet couldn’t help but tightly hug Long Ling’s slender waist. “Let’s get married when we go back. We’ll hold the wedding at our manor.”
Long Ling gently stroked Violet’s long hair, but suddenly recalled a previous issue and grew anxious. “Okay, but we signed an agreement before. I haven’t gotten you pregnant with a dragon egg. Will your family’s dragons agree to us getting married?”
Not many people knew that she and Violet had privately terminated the agreement, so in the eyes of others, she and Violet were still in an engaged state.
She remembered that when she and Violet first got together, the Fergus family’s condition was for Violet to conceive a dragon egg.
It had been almost a year, and despite her and Violet’s unrestrained bedroom life, Violet still hadn’t conceived a dragon egg. Now they wanted to get married, and the elders of the Fergus family might not agree.
Seeing Long Ling frown, looking a little troubled, Violet couldn’t help but smile.
Did Long Ling really think those powerless elders in her family could arbitrarily decide her marriage?
She was a Duke. If she disagreed, no one could force an Alpha into her manor.
She had never told Long Ling that she had already looked at Long Ling’s photo and understood her family before implicitly agreeing to the marriage.
She leaned close to Long Ling’s ear, blowing a soft, teasing puff of hot air, “What should we do then? I haven’t conceived your dragon egg yet. You need to hurry up.”
Long Ling’s earlobes felt hot. “We just did it last night.”
Violet parted her red lips, a smile in her voice. “Not up for it today?”
Long Ling’s cheeks flushed, and she bit her lip. “I didn’t say no, but you haven’t eaten breakfast yet and have slept for almost a whole day. I’m worried about your health.”
If Violet still had the energy to tease her, she would have dragged this big wicked dragon to see a doctor.
Violet pinched her cheek and smiled. “Winter is too cold. It’s normal for the body not to adjust. Don’t worry about me. My stamina is much better than yours.”
But Aud Continent was even colder than Leeward Continent. Do dragons hibernate too?
She was also a dragon, and her mother was a dragon, but neither showed signs of hibernation.
Long Ling suppressed the doubts in her heart and looked at Violet’s long, slender legs. “How is your leg recently?”
Violet said, “I’ve been doing rehabilitation training. It should fully recover in a few years, but I still can’t run fast continuously.”
Violet’s health was more important than anything else.
Long Ling nodded. “That’s good. I’ll go get your food now. You should eat a little.”
Violet watched Long Ling leave, held the magical bouquet in her arms, and lowered her head to look at the engagement ring. Her slender fingers touched it again and again, feeling as if a warm current was slowly flowing through her heart.
So this is what it feels like to be loved and happy. Since her loved ones died in the political coup, she hadn’t experienced the taste of love again.
If her mother knew that she had met the person who loved her most in the world, she would surely bless her.
Long Ling quickly brought the breakfast and placed it on the small table. She had made shrimp dumplings and vegetable buns, both placed in a steamer, still steaming when brought over.
The crystal shrimp dumplings were round and plump, with the folds of the wrapper looking like beautiful, even ruffles. The wrapper of each shrimp dumpling was rolled very thin and delicate, making the fresh shrimp meat inside faintly visible.
The shrimp had been freshly caught by a morning fishing boat. Long Ling had selected the large ones from the basket, each one lively, pinching off the heads and tails, and then dicing them into fresh shrimp pieces with a knife.
The buns were also made with vegetables pickled in winter. She stir-fried some preserved vegetables and added some pan-fried shrimp oil. The resulting vegetable buns had a slightly sour taste, and after being fully saturated with oil, they became richer, and the wheat aroma was also brought out.
There was also millet and rice porridge simmered in a clay pot. Since Violet was a Western dragon, after serving her a small bowl of porridge, Long Ling also poured a cup of warmed milk beside it.
Violet could already skillfully use chopsticks. She first tasted a shrimp dumpling Long Ling made. Not only was the shape beautiful, but the shrimp meat was also very springy. The dumpling wrapper looked thin and translucent yet was very resilient. Eating it felt like walking across a boundless wheat field, lightly caressed by a cool sea breeze.
After finishing one shrimp dumpling, Violet also tried the vegetable bun. Unlike the lard-scraps bun Long Ling had made for her before, this bun had a more unique texture—sour, salty, and yet delicious. The bun dough was soft and fluffy, quite similar to bread but more fragrant.
Violet loved every dish Long Ling made.
She was well-rested today and felt hungry. A dragon’s appetite was much larger than a humans, and she finished everything Long Ling had made for her.
Long Ling cupped her face, watching Violet eat, and felt a sense of profound happiness.
If things could continue like this, she would surely take excellent care of the wicked dragon.
Long Ling handed Violet a napkin to wipe the corners of her mouth, collected the finished dishes, cleaned them with a magical water flow in the kitchen, and then returned to the room.
Violet was writing at the desk with a quill. Her refined profile looked serene in the sunlight.
The last time Violet stayed here for a while, she had brought some daily life items. Looking from the side, the gemstone ring on her hand emitted a faint green light.
Violet was only wearing a burgundy nightgown. Long Ling walked over and draped her coat over Violet. “Mind the cold.”
Violet stopped writing and leaned against her. “Guess what I’m doing?”
Long Ling followed her gaze and saw many lines of dense writing on the paper. “What are you doing?”
Violet curled her lips. “I’m writing the wedding checklist. I’ll have the butler arrange it when I return to the manor.”
Long Ling was surprised. “That fast?”
Violet smiled slightly. “Spring is still several months away. I can’t wait. We’ll get married next week. Just notify your family to be there on time.”
Long Ling froze for a moment. But the dragon egg issue hadn’t been resolved yet. Did Violet already have a solution?
Seeing Long Ling speechless, Violet thought her habit of unilaterally arranging things might have upset Long Ling, so she quickly added, “Let’s finish this list first, and you can show it to your family. They can add anything according to your hometown customs, okay?”
Long Ling nodded, furrowed her brow, and looked down at Violet’s lower abdomen.
She squeezed her fingers. “Or maybe you should write later?”
Violet raised an eyebrow slightly. “What’s wrong?”
Long Ling’s cheeks felt warm. She released her pheromones and kissed Violet’s beautiful face.
Violet closed her eyes, feeling the passionate kiss Long Ling offered and the strawberry pheromones winding around her.
The curve of her lips lifted. She understood why the little strawberry was being so passionate and proactive.
Her slender fingers stroked Long Ling’s shoulder, unfastened Long Ling’s coat, and held Long Ling tightly.
Their kisses grew passionate, and their breathing gradually became ragged. Long Ling picked up Violet, placed her on the bed, and leaned over her.
They spent several days completely lost in the room.
Violet nestled in Long Ling’s arms, her voice hoarse. “Don’t worry about the dragon egg issue. My family cannot sway my opinion.”
Long Ling felt a little touched and filled in some missing details in her mind. “I don’t want to make things difficult for you. I can continue.”
Violet, who was covered in hickeys, patted Long Ling’s tail with her own dragon tail. “Then continue?”
Long Ling groaned, lowered her head, and bit Violet’s soft spot. “I am continuing.”
Violet’s face was full of smiles. She dodged the touch, raised her hand to cut the back of Long Ling’s head, and stopped her from moving wildly. “Alright, I can’t take it anymore. I have to go back to Glace Port to deal with official business today.”
Long Ling sat up in bed. “I’ll carry you to bathe.”
Violet had far more hickeys than she did, and the skin around her scent gland was swollen. Long Ling felt a little guilty as she picked her up.
The two took a hot bath together in the bathroom, and Long Ling gave Violet a full-body massage.
They changed their clothes and just as they stepped out, they ran into Mo Dai and Shelley, who had come looking for her.
Long Ling quickly greeted them. “Mom, Mommie, why are you both here?”
Mo Dai was surprised to see Violet there. “Weren’t you planning to go to Aud Continent with your family for Christmas? I brought your Mommie over. Why is Violet suddenly here?”
Long Ling explained, “Violet came to pick me up, and she stayed here for a few days.”
Violet took a step forward, subtly showing the ring on her hand, and smiled slightly. “Long Ling specifically proposed to me, and I accepted.”
If Long Ling hadn’t told her about the proposal beforehand, Mo Dai really would have been shocked.
No matter how much Violet showed off now, Mo Dai had known about it before Violet did. If she hadn’t agreed, Violet wouldn’t have been able to be with Long Ling so easily.
Mo Dai played along to save her daughter’s face. “In that case, I must congratulate you.”
The curve of Violet’s lips lifted higher, and her tone was gentle. “Thank you.”
Mo Dai was speechless at Violet’s smug look.
Shelley knew there was some friction between the two and smoothly intervened. “Since Ling has proposed, you’re family now. It’s a good thing to have one more person to love Ling. Are you heading back to Glace Port?”
Violet noticed that Shelley had no dragon aura and was surrounded by the magical elements of the forest. With her pointed ears, she appeared to be an elf.
She had previously suspected that Long Ling’s mother was with an elf, and now it seemed her guess was correct. Long Ling’s features were also more like Shelley’s. Her facial lines were soft, but her temperament was different. Shelley’s aura, refined by age, was quiet, and her face, not fully recovered from an old injury, was still a little pale.
Long Ling quickly said, “Yes, Violet has to go back to Glace Port for work, and I’m going to see her off. Since our family is all here, let’s go to Aud Continent together. Grandma should have arrived by now, right?”
Shelley gently said, “Your grandma communicated with us. She has already arrived at Elidare Manor. Butler Marcia is chatting with her.”
Although Butler Marcia was also an older dragon, she was very capable and well-preserved, looking younger than Grandma, so they should have topics to discuss.
Long Ling was eager to see her grandmother. “Great, let’s go together.”
Long Ling had just taken Violet’s hand when Mo Dai spoke up. “Doesn’t the Duke forbid elves from entering her territory? We won’t be able to get through. Since two people in the family have elven blood, perhaps we should just stay on Leeward Continent.”
Long Ling looked at Violet and tugged on her hand. A trace of awkwardness flashed across Violet’s face. “I will order the ban to be lifted. Once Long Ling and I are married, I will no longer make things difficult for any elf.”
Long Ling immediately said to Mo Dai, “Mom, Violet said she’ll change it. Don’t hold it against her. She’s just a dragon like that—stubborn on the surface but very kind-hearted. She treats me very well too.”
Violet felt her previous discomfort from yielding to Mo Dai lessen upon hearing the little dragon praise her in front of her mother.
Mo Dai, seeing Violet yield and her daughter speaking softly on her behalf, accepted the peace offering. “That’s for the best. Live your lives well. I don’t want to be the villain who tears you apart, seeing my daughter cry at home every day. If you ever treat my daughter badly in the future, I can find a way to take Long Ling away at any time.”
Violet stated solemnly, “I will take care of Long Ling and never let her suffer any grievance again.”
Mo Dai was still reluctant to part with her daughter, so she could only threaten Violet a little on the surface.
If Long Ling and Violet got married, they would have to settle down and live their lives. Divorce was not as simple as breaking an engagement. It would be extremely difficult to get her daughter back, so she hoped Long Ling would truly live a happy life.
Long Ling glanced at Violet. She had completed faith in their relationship, believing Violet would not let her down again.
Long Ling sweetly told Mo Dai, “Violet and I will be very happy together, Mom. Don’t worry about us.”
Mo Dai was about to say a few more things, but Shelley suddenly held her hand.
Once Long Ling and Violet were a distance away, Shelley leaned close to Mo Dai’s ear and whispered, “Violet is already pregnant with Long Ling’s dragon egg. Don’t talk to her like that anymore.”
Mo Dai’s eyes widened in surprise, and she immediately broke into a smile. “Pregnant? Ling tells me everything, but I haven’t heard her mention Violet’s pregnancy.”
Shelley said very gently, “Maybe they don’t know yet. I just discovered it through my elven intuition. It must have just happened. The two dragons don’t know yet.”
Mo Dai looked at Long Ling and Violet’s retreating figures. “A dragon egg conceived by two dragons will definitely be healthier than Ling was as a child, and it won’t need to incubate for so long. We’ll be able to hold our granddaughter soon.”
Shelley coughed lightly. “Yes. You should find a time to quietly tell Long Ling and have her take good care of Violet.”
Mo Dai patted Shelley’s back and suddenly felt much less worried.
Violet was already pregnant with Long Ling’s dragon egg. The bond between these two was much deeper than they had realized.
Perhaps she, too, should change her perspective on Violet, seeing things from Long Ling’s point of view.
Long Ling and her family took the large ship to Aud Continent, then transferred to a carriage, and soon arrived at Elidare Manor.
Grandma, the clan elder, was dressed richly and solemnly this time. A happy occasion brings good spirits, and the old lady was energized. She had been eagerly awaiting Long Ling and Violet’s return, watching the manor gate every day.
She thought her granddaughter was indeed capable and reliable! She had been sad for a long time, thinking her granddaughter wouldn’t be a Duchess, and wondering where she would find another good match for Long Ling. She couldn’t eat well or sleep soundly.
But who would have thought things would take a turn? Long Ling had come to her senses, gotten back together with the Duke, and even planned to propose to her.
This was simply a joy from heaven. She felt like setting off gongs, drums, and firecrackers every day.
When Grandma saw Long Ling, she immediately opened her arms. “My precious granddaughter is back! Grandma missed you so much! Come here, a hug.”
Long Ling saw her kind and amiable grandma and quickly rushed into her arms. “Grandma, I missed you too.”
Grandma held Long Ling’s face with her rough hands and asked, “Ling, Grandma heard from your mother that you were going to propose to the Duke. Is that true?”
Long Ling nodded. “It’s true. Violet has agreed to marry me. I also gave Violet the Heart of Eternity gemstone you gave me.”
Grandma was even happier. “You’re truly the good granddaughter I raised! Much more successful than your mother! When are you getting married? Grandma has a few heirloom treasures. I’ll send them over to you then.”
Mo Dai frowned, not bothering to argue with the old lady, who liked to compare them.
Long Ling looked at Violet and said to Grandma, “Violet told me she plans to prepare the wedding next week.”
Grandma, despite her age and experience, was also surprised. “That’s a bit fast!”
Mo Dai heard the plan and objected. “The timing is too rushed!”
Grandma thought Mo Dai was trying to stop the marriage. She tapped her cane on the floor and immediately changed her tune. “It’s not fast at all! We start preparing today! Grandma agrees to this marriage!”
