- Chapter 98 - The Wedding (Part One)
Violet wanted to have a grand wedding, but one week wasn’t enough, and Christmas arrived in the blink of an eye.
Long Ling and Violet discussed having Christmas first. Their mothers and grandmother had all arrived, and the original plan was for the family to gather for Christmas. The wedding could wait.
Violet reluctantly agreed. The wedding date was moved to after Christmas, and she instructed the butler and the servants in the manor to prepare for the holiday first.
Snow piled up on the pine trees in the manor. Marcia the butler led the servants to prune the pine branches and hang them with colored lights, small golden bells, and other decorations.
Long Ling thought this was enough for the holiday, but soon after, Marcia the butler arranged for several truckloads of different kinds of pine trees to be brought into the manor.
These pine trees were already pruned. The grandmother walked over to observe for a while, touching the pine branches and exclaiming in wonder: “These look like Fraser Firs and Cascade Blue Spruce. Look at those blue-grey needles, and that unique pine fragrance. I hear a single tree is worth a fortune. Does His Grace the Duke celebrate Christmas like this every year?”
Marcia the butler, meeting an appreciative old lady, adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and smiled, “Not only that, but these pine trees were cultivated by witches in advance and have special magical effects. You can see the needles sparkling even on a snowy night.”
The grandmother sighed with emotion, “Celebrating the holiday once requires so many pine trees?”
Marcia the butler replied, “It’s a great privilege for these magically cultivated pine trees to even be glanced at by His Grace the Duke. I still have to select the very best ones to be placed in His Grace’s bedroom.”
The grandmother looked at the pine trees fondly, waved her hand, and let Marcia the butler get back to work.
The old lady turned to Long Ling and said, “His Grace the Duke is too wealthy. He spends so lavishly even for Christmas. How grand will your wedding be!”
After all, not only did Violet have a mountain of gold coins, but she also owned so many gemstone mines.
Even Long Ling’s mother, a major businesswoman, couldn’t compare to the accumulated wealth of Violet’s family over generations.
Long Ling hooked her arm into her grandmother’s, “Grandma, do you like those pine trees? I’ll buy some for our house.”
The grandmother patted Long Ling’s hand and instructed her, “Don’t waste money. Grandma is old. You and His Grace the Duke just live a good life.”
Long Ling smiled brightly, “Grandma is not old at all in my heart.”
The grandmother’s face crinkled with smiles, “All’s well that ends well. You two are finally together. Once you’re married, you’ll be adults. You must be good to your wife. Your mother takes good care of me.”
Long Ling’s eyes curved, “I know.”
She leaned against her grandmother, drawing warmth from her. She actually quite liked hearing the elder’s ramble.
Her paternal grandmother also liked to ramble like her maternal grandmother, but all elders are the same; they all hope their granddaughter can live a better life. Sometimes the elderly are lonely and need companionship.
Long Ling and her grandmother returned to the house together. Winter holly wreaths were hung in the room, with red berries intertwined with green leaves, and small golden bells hanging below. A gust of wind blew through, making a delightful jingle, warm like spring in the cold winter.
She and her grandmother sat by the fireplace, drinking hot tea. Before long, Marcia the butler delivered the newly decorated Christmas tree to the side of the living room fireplace. There were also several gingerbread houses placed under the Christmas tree.
These gingerbread houses were made of gingerbread cookies and icing, with melted sugar cubes for windows, and the roof decorated with red sugar balls. Long Ling curiously broke off a corner of one and took a bite.
The corner was made of crisp and sweet biscuits, with honey, brown sugar, almonds, and various candied fruits inside.
After finishing the biscuit, Long Ling picked up a small sugar ball and put it in her mouth. It was also sweet. Perhaps because Violet loved strawberries, even the small sugar ball had a hint of strawberry flavor, possibly from added strawberry juice.
The lavish dining table was gradually filled with dishes: Christmas pudding, Christmas cake, eggnog, vegetable salad, and cranberry sauce. The entire room was filled with sweet aromas. The turkey and ham were still roasting and would only be served hot to the table after the manor’s master returned.
Long Ling chatted with her grandmother about everyday things. Soon, Mo Dai came looking for her.
Mo Dai beckoned to her, “Little Ling, come over. Mom has something to tell you.”
Long Ling got up and quickly walked over. Mo Dai glanced behind her, “Violet isn’t here?”
Long Ling gave a soft “Mm,” “She went to Gliss Harbor and won’t be back until tonight.”
Mo Dai nodded, “I have some good news for you. Violet is pregnant.”
Long Ling froze for a moment, as if she hadn’t registered it, “Huh?”
Mo Dai patted her shoulder, “Your mother’s elf talent discovered it. She just conceived.”
Long Ling had been looking forward to a dragon egg for a long time, and now she actually had one.
She clasped her hands together, nervously pacing back and forth, “How do I take care of her? Should I go pick her up and bring her home now?”
Seeing the joy on Long Ling’s face, yet also her clueless expression, Mo Dai said gently, “There’s no need to rush. Wait for Violet to come back, and then you can go see a doctor to confirm and ask about pregnancy precautions.”
Long Ling nodded, “Okay, I’ll contact a doctor first.”
She found Nora and asked her to help summon the family doctor to wait in the room.
When Violet returned from work, Long Ling immediately greeted her and helped her take off her overcoat.
She cupped Violet’s hands in hers, rubbing them to warm her up.
Violet was in a good mood. She pinched Long Ling’s cheek, “Did you miss me? Were you good at home?”
Long Ling looked into her eyes, full of smiles, “Super missed you.”
Violet hugged Long Ling, but suddenly noticed a doctor in the room, “Are you sick?”
Long Ling whispered, “Not me, it’s you, Violet, my mom said you’re pregnant, so I asked the doctor to come over and check your health.”
Violet’s gaze fell on her lower abdomen. She had originally intended to conceive a dragon egg to keep Long Ling with her forever.
Now Long Ling had already agreed to reconcile with her, and the dragon egg arrived unexpectedly. She and Long Ling hadn’t even married yet.
No wonder she had been feeling a bit drowsy, her appetite had improved, and her perception of the cold and warmth outside was more sensitive than before. It turned out to be because she was pregnant with a dragon egg.
Violet looked at Long Ling’s joyful gaze, knowing that Long Ling was very much looking forward to a baby, and she too started to feel a sense of anticipation for the dragon egg in her belly.
Long Ling helped Violet to sit on the single-seater sofa. The doctor held a rattan staff and released medical magic. A white, sacred beam of light quickly enveloped Violet’s body, confirming the result.
“His Grace the Duke is already one month pregnant. The dragon egg is very healthy. You must take better care of yourself, maintain a balanced diet, and avoid excessive physical exertion and travel.”
Long Ling nodded, committing everything to memory, “Thank you, Doctor.”
She ushered the doctor out of the room, then eagerly returned to Violet, happily saying, “Violet, we have a baby.”
Violet’s slender hand gently stroked Long Ling’s back, her cheek resting on Long Ling’s neck, her lips curving, “That’s wonderful. Our baby.”
Long Ling placed her hand on Violet’s arm, somewhat excitedly, “I wonder what color our baby’s egg will be. Mine was sapphire blue. What color were you when you were little, Violet?”
Violet smiled softly, “I was a red dragon egg.”
Long Ling pondered, “Red and blue. Could our egg be one of these two colors, or will it be a random color?”
Violet said gently, “We won’t know until the child is born, but it’s highly likely to be similar to one of our colors.”
That would be nice, too. She hoped it would look more like Violet; she really liked Violet’s golden eyes—they looked so noble.
Violet pinched Long Ling’s cheek, “It’s still just a dragon egg. It will take several years of incubation after it’s laid before it hatches.”
Long Ling noticed Violet’s slight displeasure and quickly said, “Violet, I’m just so happy.”
Violet gently bit her shoulder, “Do you like the dragon egg, or do you like me?”
Long Ling answered seriously and firmly, “I like Violet.”
Violet took Long Ling’s hand and placed it on her lower abdomen, “You can only touch the dragon egg if you like me, understand?”
Long Ling nodded obediently, “Understood.”
Her fingers rested lightly on Violet’s lower abdomen, not daring to place her whole hand down.
Seeing Long Ling’s carefulness, Violet wondered what she was worried about, “Just put it on. It will be fine.”
Long Ling’s palm was slightly sweaty. She cautiously touched it, her eyes sparkling, and her lips curled up involuntarily, “It’s very cute.”
Violet smiled, looking at her fair face, “As cute as you.”
Long Ling recalled Violet turning her into a little milk dragon and holding her in her arms, her cheeks flushed, “Now that you have a dragon egg, you can’t turn me into a little milk dragon anymore.”
Violet snorted, “Depends on my mood.”
If she’s in a bad mood, won’t both the big dragon and the little dragon get a beating?
Long Ling secretly wiped her brow and quickly said, “The Christmas dinner is ready. Let’s go eat first.”
Violet and Long Ling went to the family dining room together, asked the mothers and grandmother to come over, and the family dinner officially began.
Violet took her seat at the head of the table. Long Ling sat beside her, and the grandmother sat closely with Long Ling. Opposite them sat Long Ling’s two mothers.
One exquisite dish after another was served on the lavish dining table. The surrounding violinists began to play holiday melodies, and the fluid music flowed from the strings.
Both mothers were in on the secret of Violet’s pregnancy, making this family dinner exceptionally harmonious.
Long Ling picked out some of Violet’s favorite dishes and placed them on her plate.
Violet ate the food casually, also noticing that Mo Dai’s attitude was completely different from before, now full of smiles, the curve of her red lips distinctly more upward.
If she had known that being pregnant with a dragon egg would elevate her status so much in Long Ling’s family’s eyes, she would have gotten pregnant earlier, avoiding such a long detour.
However, Long Ling was at odds with her back then. It’s not bad like this, at least everyone is revolving around her now.
Halfway through the dinner, Mo Dai suddenly remembered the earlier conversation and asked, “Little Ling, Violet’s body has been checked? What did the doctor say?”
Long Ling answered truthfully, “Yes, the doctor said Violet’s health is very good. She just needs to pay attention to her diet.”
The grandmother looked surprised, “Is His Grace the Duke ill?”
Realizing she hadn’t told her grandmother yet, Long Ling quickly said, “Not ill, she’s pregnant.”
The grandmother’s aged eyes instantly lit up, her face filled with delight, “Heaven preserve us, that’s wonderful! But what about your wedding plans?”
Violet picked up a napkin, wiped her lips, and said in an undeniable voice, “The wedding will proceed as planned.”
Violet’s aura was so strong that the grandmother, who was about to suggest waiting until the dragon egg was more stable, was momentarily speechless.
She looked at Mo Dai, hoping her daughter would step forward and persuade His Grace the Duke.
Mo Dai, who had also been married and given birth to a dragon egg, said, “A dragon egg is not like a human baby, it’s not that fragile. There’s no problem getting married now. She’ll also look better in the wedding dress. It will be inconvenient later.”
Shirley looked at Long Ling and said, “Mo Dai and I need to go back for a while to prepare your wedding gifts. We’ll be back before the wedding.”
She then looked at the grandmother, “Do you want to come back with me?”
Seeing that no one supported her, the grandmother was disheartened, “Fine, I’ll go back with you. I’ll also prepare some useful things for Long Ling.”
The wedding was thus set on Christmas Day.
One week later, it was the wedding day.
Dragons from both the Fergus family and the Arnold family arrived at the wedding venue. Both sides of the auditorium were full. On the left were the dragons of Violet’s family, who took up most of the seats. On the right were Long Ling’s family and the elves from the Elf Race.
Aurelia heard that she and Violet were getting married and sent a wedding dress woven from petals by the elves. The whole gown was a work of exquisite craftsmanship, intricately detailed, with pure white gauze adorned with fresh flowers.
The flower crown on her head was personally woven by Shirley using the Elf Race’s snow cotton. The branches were trailing, and the petals were pure, symbolizing unique and pure love in the world of elves.
Long Ling put on the wedding dress and the flower crown, holding Violet’s hand, standing in front of the mirror. She had never imagined she would look so solemn and elegant one day.
Violet usually wore her military uniform, but today she was in a pristine white wedding dress, noble and magnificent, with glittering jewels on her attire, bright red lips, and a vibrant and graceful makeup look. Her dark golden eyes sparkled with joy.
Long Ling’s heart pounded. She whispered in Violet’s ear, “Violet, you are so beautiful today.”
Violet stared at Long Ling in the mirror. Before she could react, Long Ling breathed a stream of air into her ear, her tone lingering, “You’re very beautiful too.”
Violet finished speaking, expecting Long Ling to kiss her, but found Long Ling motionless.
Violet slightly tilted her head, her sapphire earrings flashing brightly, and saw that Long Ling’s hands were pressed against the dressing table.
She looked closely and saw that the back of Long Ling’s hands was taut, her ten fingers trembling slightly, her lips tightly pursed, and her expression serious and prepared.
Is her little strawberry dragon nervous?
Violet curved her red lips and called out softly, “Long Ling.”
Long Ling immediately turned to look at her, the water in her blue eyes gently shimmering, “What’s wrong?”
Violet placed her hand on her lower abdomen, “The baby seems to be moving.”
Long Ling quickly walked to Violet’s side, squatted down, and gently touched Violet’s lower abdomen, “Don’t be afraid, baby, be good. Mommy is here.”
Violet’s smile deepened. She conveniently rubbed Long Ling’s head, like petting a little puppy dragon.
When Long Ling’s condition improved a little, she said gently, “Alright, Long Ling.”
Long Ling’s nervousness was largely dissipated by this little interlude. She was already the baby’s mother.
She had to stay calm. The wedding was just a small occasion.
Someone’s hand gently stroked Long Ling’s cheek. She saw Violet’s doting eyes.
Long Ling’s gaze fell on Violet’s vibrant lips, and she couldn’t help but lightly press a kiss onto them.
Violet’s lips were softer and sweeter today than ever before.
Long Ling extended her rosy tongue, licked her own lips, and kissed Violet again.
Violet picked up the lipstick from the table and touched up her red lips in the mirror, “No more kissing. We have to go to the ceremony soon.”
Long Ling was mesmerized by Violet’s lipstick application, “I want to get married quickly.”
Violet smelled the strawberry pheromones in the air, her finger holding the lipstick, and gestured for the little strawberry dragon to come closer.
Long Ling obediently walked to her side. Violet pressed her against the table, cupped her chin, and gently applied lipstick to Long Ling’s lips, “Behave today, okay?”
Violet’s dark golden eyes were incredibly clear, focused intently on Long Ling’s red lips, her breath lightly fanning Long Ling’s nose.
Long Ling’s throat couldn’t help but bob, “Not behaving, I want to kiss more.”
Violet leisurely finished applying the lipstick, her red lips parting, “A naughty little dragon gets punished. No treats.”
Long Ling knew Violet wasn’t kidding; the last punishment was still vivid in her memory.
She lowered her eyes in frustration, docilely allowing Violet to touch up her makeup.
Violet quickly finished applying Long Ling’s lipstick.
She lifted Long Ling’s hand, spread open Long Ling’s fair palm, and placed an extremely gentle kiss there.
Long Ling’s palm felt like it had been scalded. The tingling itch spread from her palm all the way to her heart.
She bit her lip, looking at Violet, “What was that?”
Violet’s eyes shimmered, “A reward for the obedient little dragon.”
