Life After Being Claimed by the Disabled Dragon Lady - Chapter 96
When Long Ling woke up the next day, she flipped through her calendar and saw that today was the day she could pick up the custom-made ring.
Violet was still fast asleep in bed, slumbering sweetly under the covers.
When they were at the Illidari Estate, Violet always woke up very early and would give her little surprises every day.
Perhaps because of how passionate the night before had been, this time, Long Ling had already gotten out of bed and tidied up for quite a while, yet Violet showed no signs of waking up.
Long Ling walked to the bedside, leaned down, and gently kissed her cheek: “Violet, time to get up~”
Violet stretched out her smooth, white arm, hooked it around Long Ling’s neck, and returned the kiss on Long Ling’s soft lips: “So sleepy.”
Violet kneaded Long Ling’s dragon horn, her voice husky: “Why are you awake so early?”
Long Ling hadn’t drawn the curtains, so the warm sunlight hadn’t shone in, and combined with the cold winter weather, Violet, having slept wrapped in the little strawberry dragon’s embrace all night, was even more reluctant to leave the warm covers, and her sense of time was blurred.
Long Ling felt slightly tickled by her kneading, and her mouth felt soft from the kiss. Her voice was sweet: “It’s almost twelve o’clock, get up. I made you breakfast. Eat a little, then you can go back to sleep.”
Violet nestled into Long Ling’s neck, her enchanting eyes clouded with a dreamy haze, and her tone was lazy: “Is it really twelve o’clock? So sleepy, darling, I want to keep sleeping.”
Hearing her call her “darling” made Long Ling’s cheeks flush. The memories of last night flashed in her mind, and her throat tightened: “Then I’ll head out first. I’ll leave your food on the stove to keep warm. Remember to eat when you wake up.”
Violet closed her eyes and felt down, noting the little dragon was wearing quite thick clothes. She felt much relieved that Long Ling wouldn’t catch a cold outside: “Okay, come back early, and remember to think of me.”
Long Ling gently hummed in affirmation: “I will think of you.”
She placed Violet’s hand back under the covers and tucked the blanket around her again.
Perhaps she tucked it too tightly, as Violet frowned slightly in discomfort, and her beautiful lips pouted a little towards Long Ling.
This accidental display of cuteness melted Long Ling’s heart. She leaned down and kissed Violet on the lips again, then gently tucked the stray long hair behind Violet’s ear, whispering softly: “Sleep now. I’ll be back soon.”
The corners of Violet’s lips turned up from the kiss, and she quickly drifted back into a deep sleep.
Long Ling put on a thick scarf, quietly opened the bedroom door, closed it softly, and quickly left the house.
She first went to a nearby florist to pre-order a bouquet of the freshest magical flowers, and then took a carriage to the jeweler she had previously found to customize the ring.
The engagement ring had been finished, incorporating a lucky pearl and the ‘Eternal Heart’ her grandmother had given her. It contained a massive amount of magical elements, like a flowing spring, beautiful beyond compare.
Long Ling held it up to the sunlight to admire it, finding it impossible to look away. If Violet wore this ring, it would certainly be stunning.
A passing store clerk couldn’t help but stop: “What a beautiful ring. So, this ring belongs to you. It’s as captivating as your beauty.”
Long Ling thanked the clerk: “This is a gift for my future wife.”
The clerk clasped her hands and offered a blessing: “May you and your wife be forever happy.”
Long Ling was already starting to feel happy: “Thank you.”
She gave the clerk a generous tip, and the clerk presented her with an exquisite gift box specifically for the engagement ring.
Long Ling carefully placed the ring into the box, put it in her coat pocket, and ran her long fingers over the surface of the box repeatedly, her heart feeling as though it was coated in honey.
If she married Violet, they could be together forever.
Long Ling returned to the carriage and headed to the florist. The magical bouquet she had ordered was ready, a large, full bunch of flowers, blooming brilliantly and beautifully.
This magical bouquet would never wither and would bloom in different colors throughout the four seasons, symbolizing that her love for Violet would never change.
Long Ling held the bouquet, catching the scent of branches dusted with light snow. Though it was the depths of winter and a cold wind was chilling her cheeks, the thought of proposing soon warmed her completely, making her palms sweat.
She walked briskly back to the carriage. The streets outside were bustling with pedestrians, the world around her sounded noisy and prosperous, and even the chirping of the little birds seemed to be announcing good news.
Sitting inside the carriage, Long Ling’s cheeks slowly began to burn. The thought of pouring out all her love made her suddenly a little nervous.
She had told her mother about the proposal, but actually doing it now felt impulsive, and she hadn’t prepared what she wanted to say.
She had never proposed to anyone before. The flowers were her choice, the ring was her purchase, and Violet was the dragon she wanted to be with forever—everything aligned with her wishes.
But her heart hammered thump, thump, thump, beating faster and faster. Before she even saw Violet, she was too nervous to sit still.
Long Ling stepped out of the carriage, holding the splendid magical bouquet, and was stopped by several staff members who wanted to know more about it.
“Boss, your flowers are so beautiful! Such a big bunch, and they emit all sorts of magical light. Are you going to put them in the tavern?”
“No, they’re a gift.”
Long Ling didn’t let the curious staff follow her. She walked alone up to the second floor of the tavern and arrived at the door of her room.
Her heart started accelerating pitter-patter, pitter-patter again. She touched the engagement ring in her pocket once more.
Long Ling’s face was extremely hot. Thinking about what was about to happen, she felt a little embarrassed to open the door.
She thought about knocking, but then realized it was her own lair. It felt a bit too pretentious to knock on her own bedroom door.
Long Ling’s thoughts were a jumbled mess. She took out the key, opened the door, and found the room silent.
The living room curtains were still drawn. Violet was probably still asleep.
Long Ling’s heartbeat slowly returned to normal. She took off her slippers, placed the magical bouquet behind her, and quietly walked toward the bedroom.
She softly opened the bedroom door. Creak! The door opened a little too loudly by accident.
Long Ling immediately turned her head to look at the bed. Violet’s eyes were gently closed, and her shallow breathing was steady and long.
The great evil dragon was exceptionally sleepy today.
The tension in Long Ling’s heart eased considerably. She gently felt the flower wrapping behind her back and slowly approached Violet.
She walked to the bedside, just about to practice her words, when Violet suddenly woke up: “You’re back. Why didn’t you call me?”
Long Ling’s heart rate spiked, and she froze instantly.
Violet had heard the door open and knew Long Ling was back.
She stretched out her arms, intending to ask Long Ling for a hug, but noticed Long Ling was holding something behind her back.
The little strawberry dragon was concealing something. The object behind her was sparkling faintly, and a refined floral scent mixed with the smell of strawberries wafted over.
Violet guessed it was flowers. A flash of surprise crossed her eyes, and the corners of her lips curved up: “A gift for me?”
Long Ling was caught off guard, and her cheeks turned completely red. She presented the large, intensely blooming magical bouquet to Violet.
Violet held the magical flowers, reveling in the fragrance. To wake up to such a surprise meant Long Ling must have secretly gone out and prepared for a long time.
So adorable. She felt an urge to kiss the little strawberry dragon.
Violet’s red lips moved closer to Long Ling, but Long Ling suddenly dropped to one knee, pulled out the engagement ring, and said sincerely: “Violet, I want to be with you forever. Marry me.”
The gem on the wedding ring sparkled brightly, flowing with the colors of spring on the red velvet cushion. The light of the gem reflected in Long Ling’s icy blue eyes, filled entirely with her love.
Violet had thought Long Ling would never fall in love with her again, only needing her temporary companionship, not wanting to live with her forever.
She had hurt the genuine heart Long Ling offered, causing a rift in their relationship. Since then, Long Ling hadn’t agreed to reconcile. But as long as they could still be together and see each other often, she was already satisfied.
It turned out her little dragon had always deeply loved her. She had desired a long-term, stable relationship, feeling insecure and experiencing the fear of loss. Long Ling had remembered it all and was willing to open her heart to embrace her again.
How could she have been so cruel to hurt the only little dragon who deeply loved her and offered such pure affection without reservation?
Violet’s heart was a mixture of emotion and pain. These complicated feelings merged, transforming into hot tears that streamed down her face, unstoppable.
She tightly embraced Long Ling, murmuring words of love over and over, sounding like quiet sobs mixed with whispers: “I love you, Long Ling, I want to marry you. I want to be with you forever.”
The tears in Violet’s eyes continued to flow, and large drops-soaked Long Ling’s back.
She held on so tightly, as if she had recovered a lost treasure and couldn’t bear to be separated from Long Ling for a single second.
The more she was loved, the more afraid she became of every moment she had once risked losing it.
Violet’s body trembled continuously, her heart ached even more, and her tears became more torrent-like. She spoke incoherently: “I love you so much. Thank you for loving me too. I’m sorry, Long Ling. The past was all my fault. I just didn’t want you to leave me.”
Long Ling tightly wrapped her arms around Violet. She knew—she had always known—that the evil dragon lady just desperately longed for love. She was willing to give all her love, embracing and accepting everything about the evil dragon lady.
