- Chapter 80 - Beaten and Betrayed
Long Ling stepped forward and asked, “Who instructed you?”
“Who instructed me?” Sivia sounded as if she had heard the funniest joke.
She stared into Long Ling’s eyes, a mocking smile on her lips: “I am a Countess of the Aude Continent. Crushing you is like crushing an ant. You are nothing but an obscure little dragon from a fallen family. I heard you didn’t even attend the Magic University.”
Long Ling frowned slightly. It seemed the other party was not instructed by anyone. But why did Violet say that she was her subordinate?
Did Violet often mention in front of others that she hadn’t gone to university, that she was from a poor background, and that her educational level was low?
Long Ling rubbed her fingertips. She had actually been trying very hard to learn magic.
When Sivia saw her silent admission, she sneered: “A dragon like you, with no substance, only a pretty face, yet you dare to seduce Her Grace the Duchess. I suppose you and Her Grace usually have nothing to talk about. Politics, military affairs, culture—you know nothing.”
Long Ling was indeed unfamiliar with those topics and did not like to participate in discussions about politics or military affairs. Violet never asked for her opinion when handling government affairs.
She didn’t think there was anything wrong with that. She was just a chef; wasn’t it enough that she could make delicious food?
“I don’t want to talk about those things with Violet, and I didn’t seduce her,” Long Ling originally wanted to mention the engagement agreement, but she had only signed one agreement and never had a ceremony. “We’ve already broken up.”
Sivia was so angry hearing the indecision in Long Ling’s tone that her teeth were practically grinding. It was precisely because Long Ling had not clearly separated herself from Violet that Violet had repeatedly rejected her advances.
Why could some dragons gain all of someone’s affection without putting in any effort, just relying on a face?
“You haven’t broken up with her at all! You’re dragging things out!”
Sivia vented all her resentment and anger onto Long Ling: “We dragons can live for ten thousand years. No dragon will always choose only one partner. When you are no longer young and beautiful, how could Her Grace the Duchess still fancy someone who is merely superficially attractive?”
Long Ling was silent for a moment: “Are you saying you lack beauty?”
Sivia’s face instantly twisted in rage: “I’m talking about you, you freeloading Alpha!”
Long Ling didn’t understand why she was suddenly so angry and said coldly: “I don’t freeload. I usually grow the vegetables in the manor, and I also do the cooking. Besides, even if I did freeload, I’d be freeloading off Violet. What’s it to you?”
Sivia suddenly stood up, a vicious look flashing in her eyes: “Enough nonsense. You don’t have the slightest semblance of an Alpha. Today, I’ll show you what a real Alpha is!”
She threw a punch straight at Long Ling’s face with ten-tenths of her strength. A fierce gust of wind ripped through the air, and the scent of mugwort pheromones simultaneously pressed down.
Long Ling tilted her head to dodge the massive fist, then seized Sivia’s wrist and smashed her other fist towards Sivia’s lower back.
Sivia had trained rigorously through life-and-death situations. She reacted instantly, spun around to avoid Long Ling’s attack, and kicked at Long Ling’s lower body.
Long Ling lunged at Sivia’s back, locking her hands around Sivia’s neck, forcing her into submission. Her strawberry pheromones fiercely suppressed every nerve of the opponent. Sivia’s neck was constricted and bright red; she was gasping for air and about to pass out.
The next second, Sivia’s elbow suddenly slammed heavily into Long Ling’s abdomen.
Long Ling felt a sudden, heavy impact in her lower abdomen. Her intestines felt twisted, and her internal organs burned with pain. A mouthful of fresh blood spurted out, and the next second, she was kicked flying.
Sivia rushed at her again, a flurry of iron fists coming at her face. Long Ling quickly dodged, kicked Sivia’s back, immediately flipped over, and pinned her down.
Sivia stared at Long Ling in disbelief, then was struck hard on the forehead with a punch.
Long Ling withdrew her fist, enduring the abdominal pain, and asked: “Where did you tie up Aunt Lan?”
Sivia’s head felt like it was splitting open from the blow: “If you leave Violet forever, I’ll tell you where she is.”
Long Ling punched her again: “What exactly is your relationship with Violet?”
Sivia’s head was ringing from the blows. She hissed: “Violet and I met two hundred years ago. You weren’t even born when we were studying together! I understand Violet better than you do. Do you know what she looks like when she’s hurt? Do you know how many years I’ve silently guarded her? You know nothing! You only hurt her, and you don’t deserve her at all!”
The words of Loran flashed through Long Ling’s mind. She grabbed Sivia’s collar: “Is your name Sivia?”
Sivia sneered: “Did you hear my name from Violet’s mouth?”
Long Ling’s gaze turned into one of pity: “Violet has never mentioned your name in front of me. You say I don’t deserve her, but you don’t even deserve to be mentioned by name. Do you deserve her?”
Sivia was completely enraged by Long Ling and slammed a punch fiercely into Long Ling’s chest.
Long Ling dodged the fatal blow and punched her again, knocking Sivia back to the ground: “Even if you’ve lived for a few hundred years longer than me, you’re useless. You still can’t beat me.”
Sivia angrily clutched the dust on the ground. The higher-level pheromones had continuously suppressed her spiritual energy, keeping her mind on the verge of collapse. And she was also quickly attacked in the head by Long Ling. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been defeated by this little dragon who was only one hundred years old.
Long Ling looked down at her: “I’ve already broken up with Violet, and she is certainly not lacking in Alphas pursuing her. If you want to pursue her, then go for it, but you have to release Aunt Lan first.”
“Of course I’ll release her, but the prerequisite is that you leave Violet forever.”
Sivia’s trembling hand reached for her waist, where a flintlock pistol was hidden. Just as she was about to pull out the gun, a sudden sound of messy footsteps came from all around.
A gunshot fired into the air, and dozens of police officers swarmed in, surrounding their location.
The police chief flashed a badge and separated them all.
“Police business! Nobody moves!”
Long Ling got up and moved away from Sivia. Her abdomen had been struck by Sivia’s elbow, and it was hurting badly now.
When she was still, it wasn’t so painful, but now every step felt like a churning mess, indicating a serious internal injury.
Sivia was surrounded by more than ten police officers and no longer had a chance to strike.
“Little Ling, are you okay?”
Mo Dai rushed towards Long Ling. Seeing Long Ling’s pale face, bloody lips, and scrapes all over her body, she tenderly pulled Long Ling into her arms.
Long Ling shook her head slightly: “Where is Aunt Lanqin? Did you find her?”
Mo Dai quickly said: “Yes, we found her. She was tied up in the backyard of the Late Night Tavern and has been rescued. The police chief said he will definitely handle this matter properly and will hold the person for questioning. Can you still manage to walk home? Do you want Mama to carry you?”
Long Ling leaned into Mo Dai’s embrace and slowly closed her eyes.
Mo Dai carried Long Ling and hurried to the hospital. By the time she brought her to the doctor and placed her on the treatment table, six pieces of Long Ling’s silver-white scales on her abdomen had been shattered.
The most severely damaged scales in the center were not only shattered into pieces, but the fragments were also embedded in the tender, pink flesh, looking bloody and mangled.
The doctor used tweezers to pick out countless scale fragments. The iron tray held several thick layers of them. After finally finishing, a healing agent was applied to the wound, and white bandages were wrapped around it layer after layer.
Long Ling also had large and small abrasions on her body left from rolling around. Just applying medicine took half a day.
Long Ling had been unconscious for an unknown amount of time. When she woke up, it was already late at night.
She was lying in a hospital bed, her arm cool as she received an infusion. A large bouquet of sunflowers and some bright wild daisies were in the nearby vase. The white light overhead made her eyes feel a little dizzy.
Mo Dai and Shirley were taking care of her nearby, and even Annie had come, carrying a beautiful fruit basket.
Annie was pleasantly surprised to see Long Ling awake: “Big Sister Long Ling, you’re awake!”
Long Ling nodded slightly. She remembered why she was in the hospital bed—she had fought with Sivia. The reason the other party wanted to fix her was because she and Violet were still connected. She was being resented for being in the way.
So Violet had met Sivia that day. Violet had deliberately concealed it from her and hadn’t told her Sivia’s true identity.
Why did she lie to her? Was it just because she had rejected Violet multiple times, prompting Sivia to beat her up and make her realize her place?
Long Ling felt a throbbing pain in her chest, and a salty, metallic taste welled up in her throat.
Her eyes became sore. Just as she was about to sit up, Shirley gently pressed her down and placed a pillow behind her.
“What do you want? Let your Mama get it for you.”
Long Ling lowered her eyes and whispered: “What about Sivia? Has the police charged her yet?”
Mo Dai quickly said: “She’s already detained. The chief is personally interrogating her this time. She will definitely be locked up for many years.”
Long Ling looked up and asked: “What about the tavern?”
Mo Dai stroked her head: “Don’t worry about the tavern for now. I found reliable people to manage things. It will be closed for a while to rest. I also had someone send your aunt back to the old house.”
With Mama handling everything, she was completely at ease.
Yet, Long Ling still felt a deep pain in her heart. It was as if a surge of resentment couldn’t be relieved, and her limbs gradually became cold.
Mo Dai saw her face turn pale again and quickly gave Shirley a look to fetch a glass of hot water.
Mo Dai handed the hot tea to Long Ling and tucked the blanket around her: “Do you want to rest a little longer? Are your Mamas making too much noise here?”
Annie quickly placed the fruit basket on the bedside cabinet: “Big Sister Long Ling, please focus on recuperating. The doctor said your body should recover in a day or two, but the scales will take a little longer to grow back.”
After seeing Long Ling nod, Mo Dai, Shirley, and Annie all left the ward together, giving Long Ling some quiet space.
Long Ling buried her face in her hands, silent tears streaming down, her silver-white long hair falling around her.
Violet truly could not change her proud and domineering nature. She shouldn’t have trusted her and thought Violet could change for the better.
She had even been thinking of going to the manor to see her—it was nothing but self-humiliation.
