- Chapter 58 - Taking the Pillow the Little Dragon Slept On
Nora arrived with the tavern deed Miss Long Ling had left behind, just in time to see His Grace the Duke burning an agreement. She was immediately a little scared.
She still braced herself and walked over: “Your Grace the Duke, this is the tavern deed Miss Long Ling asked me to hand over to you.”
Violet glanced at the neatly folded parchment deed. The dragon was gone, why leave her a deed?
Violet’s tone was cold: “Have someone tear the whole thing down.”
Nora thought of Miss Long Ling’s hard work these past few days and could only nervously plead: “Miss Long Ling put a lot of effort into this tavern.”
Violet’s slender, beautiful fingers tapped the armrest of her wheelchair. Marcia, the housekeeper, immediately reprimanded her: “This is no place for you to speak. How dare you disobey Her Grace’s orders? You were told to tear it down, so tear it down. Go and do it quickly.”
Nora was suddenly scolded by her aunt and lowered her head, walking away.
Violet looked at Nora’s retreating figure and suddenly remembered when Long Ling asked her what to name the tavern, the little dragon had been full of anticipation, hoping to name it together with her.
She had been busy with official duties at the time and didn’t have much patience for the little dragon, so she just told her to pick a name. Now, she didn’t even know what the tavern was called.
Violet’s lips were pressed into a straight line: “Go to the tavern, I want to watch them tear it down.”
Marcia the housekeeper quickly arranged a carriage to take Violet there.
The sunlight was too dazzling. Violet saw the tavern sign, which read “Mist Tavern.” She looked at it once, then withdrew her gaze.
Because the order had been given in advance, all the guests in the tavern had been cleared out.
Violet entered the tavern alone, looked around, and saw the neatly arranged strawberry fruit wine in the wine cabinet. She thought of the strawberry pheromones on Long Ling’s body, and a dark look flashed in her eyes. She believed everything when she said it in anger, yet she had told her so many times that she liked the Strawberry Dragon, why couldn’t she just listen?!
Nora found the squirrel beastman responsible for the demolition: “Your Grace, if the tavern is torn down, where should all the wine brewed by Miss Long Ling go?”
Violet frowned slightly: “Dump it all out.”
Nora had just been scolded by the housekeeper and dared not say a word now. Whatever the Duke ordered, she just had to execute it.
Renee led the squirrel beastmen to swing their sledgehammers, starting to smash the fence outside the tavern. Nora signaled to Mina to help move the wine barrels.
The wooden stoppers of the wine barrels were opened, and the bright red wine liquid gently swayed inside. As soon as it was tilted, a rich, sweet strawberry fragrance wafted out.
Violet recalled the taste of the strawberry pheromones, and her brow furrowed deeper: “Cover the wine barrels, send them all to the manor cellar, and restore the tavern to its original state. It’s truly ugly when dismantled.”
Renee stopped her movements. She hadn’t even knocked twice yet.
Nora hadn’t wanted to dump the wine in the first place, and hearing this, she quickly covered the wine barrels.
Violet left the tavern, with only Eleanor and Marcia the housekeeper by her side. The Duke was in a bad mood, and no one dared to cross Her Grace at this moment.
Violet hadn’t walked far in the manor when she saw the crystal kitchen where Long Ling often cooked.
She pointed a finger: “Tear down the kitchen, it’s an eyesore.”
Marcia the housekeeper bowed and said, “Yes.”
Seeing Violet still staring at the crystal kitchen, Marcia the housekeeper didn’t dare to move.
Violet’s face was icy: “Why aren’t you going? Who allowed her to build a kitchen in the garden in the first place? It’s affecting my flower viewing.”
Marcia the housekeeper wiped her sweat: “I will go and tear it down now.”
Just as she was about to leave, Violet suddenly said: “Don’t tear it down. Move this kitchen far away later. Don’t let it appear in front of me again.”
Marcia the housekeeper could only ask everything at once: “Miss Long Ling also planted hops in the manor farm, originally intending to make pale ale. Should that be dug up too and replaced with pasture?”
Violet’s voice was low: “The person isn’t here, what’s the point of keeping the hops? She was brewing wine every day, but I never saw her drink it many times.”
Marcia the housekeeper: “Shall I dig up the hops after moving the kitchen?”
Violet looked displeased: “Keep them. Hire a batch of brewers to brew wine later.”
Marcia the housekeeper: “Yes.”
Violet massaged her temples. Usually, when the little dragon was flitting around, she didn’t feel the manor was so empty. Even after ordering people to wipe away these traces left by Long Ling, why did she still feel so annoyed?
Violet finished her daytime duties and returned to her bedroom, immediately seeing the bed she and Long Ling had slept in together. She raised a finger, wanting someone to throw the bed away too. The pillows they had slept on were neatly placed on it.
She could still remember the little dragon cautiously holding her waist after their first shallow marking. She buried herself in Long Ling’s arms, felt the little dragon’s heartbeat was too loud, and even patted the little dragon’s tail several times.
In the past few days, she had wronged Long Ling and kept her locked in the secret room. They hadn’t slept in each other’s arms for a long time.
But Long Ling dared to contact her family behind her back, wanting to leave her for a long time, which is why she left so decisively! She would never forgive Long Ling! And she wouldn’t go to see her!
Violet transformed into the scarlet giant dragon, opened the door to the secret room, and flew in to sleep on the pile of gold coins. She tossed and turned on the gold coins, her disabled dragon tail scraping against the gold with a rustling sound. She was unable to sleep soundly for several consecutive nights.
On the fifth day, the sleepless Violet emerged from the secret room, staring at the large bed they had slept on, her gaze falling back on the pillows. She took her own pillow, then glanced at the pillow Long Ling had slept on, and carried it with her to the pile of gold coins.
Long Ling had already passed through the dense forest and reached the place where the elves lived. The elves’ territory was as beautiful as a fairyland. Long Ling rode a white horse, crossing the water bridge controlled by Aerolys’s magic power, her ice-blue eyes full of wonder.
Because half of her blood was elven, she found she could easily control the power of nature and felt a great affinity for water.
Long Ling tried it out with Aerolys, building a completely different arch bridge out of water. Her sculpting skills were excellent, and she could use magic to condense the water flow into coiled dragon patterns on every water column. As they walked across the bridge, each coiled dragon would transform into Long Ling’s true form, circling around them once before coiling back onto the water column. A majestic dragon roar could faintly be heard in the wind.
Aerolys’s eyes flashed with surprise. Long Ling’s control over magic and her ingenious design for building the bridge were truly admirable.
Aerolys took her hand: “Long Ling, let me show you some other places. I know there are many beautiful spots here.”
Long Ling looked at Mo Dai and Grandma. Mo Dai just waved her hand, letting her go out and play with Aerolys.
Long Ling followed by Aerolys’s side, stopping and walking. She had never seen so many elves before. Every one of them was beautiful, with slender waists and long legs, holding staffs or carrying bows and arrows, looking very heroic.
No wonder Mo Dai rejected the Queen and ran away to be with an elf. It seemed that not only would she have a beautiful elven wife, but she had also chosen a perfect place for retirement.
According to what Mo Dai said on the way, the elves of this world are long-lived species. Even Aerolys beside her was already thousands of years old.
Elves have long lifespans, and their exploration of the world is more patient than humans. While the dragon race likes to conquer continents, elves prefer peace.
They have enough patience to spend a long time listening to the voice of nature. The elven language and script are also different from those on other continents. Every object made by the elves is exquisite, and even the food elves eat daily is far more expensive than that made by humans.
Long Ling tasted the elven bread Aerolys gave her on the road. She had never eaten such delicate bread before. She found it delicious with the very first bite, and surprisingly, she didn’t feel hungry for the next few days. The bread made by the elves contains rich nutrients. Despite the hardships of the journey, and even when she was in a low mood, that one piece of elven bread kept her complexion rosy.
She could only sell one dish for 90 silver coins at the tavern, while a piece of bread made by the elves sells for ten gold coins outside, and it is in short supply, with many adventurers scrambling to buy it.
Long Ling also ate small snacks made by the elves. When Aerolys took them out, they looked like small, round balls, covered in coconut shreds, hard to the touch, and crunchy to eat, with the sweet flavor of apple and honey when bitten into. After eating several more, her whole body became fragrant, attracting many colorful magical butterflies.
Long Ling and Aerolys toured the elven territory and were given beautifully woven flower crowns by many elves. She wore many flower crowns on her head, and her crystal-clear dragon horns were hidden by the flowers. These flowers, growing in the elven territory, were fresh and natural when blooming, and their scent gave a slightly intoxicating feeling, like basking in the warm sun.
Aerolys told her that giving flowers was a sign of friendliness, and gently placed the flower crown she wove herself on Long Ling’s head.
When they returned to her mother and grandmother, Mo Dai helped her take off the flower crowns.
“My precious daughter is quite popular with the elves. These flowers will make you dizzy if you wear them for too long. Come here, I’ve asked the High Priest to check your body. Once that’s done, we’ll go see your mother together.”
Long Ling’s ice-blue eyes widened slightly when she saw the High Priest next to Mo Dai. The High Priest looked very majestic, holding a crystal-green staff that was emitting a moist, mysterious glow.
Just as Long Ling was stunned by the powerful aura of the High Priest, she suddenly heard an ethereal voice sound in her mind.
Long Ling, give me your hand now.
Who was talking to her? Why could someone communicate directly with her brain?
Who are you?
Long Ling looked around. Mo Dai and Grandma were standing together. Only the mysterious High Priest stood in front of her.
Are you the High Priest?
The person didn’t speak but gently held out her hand to her.
This is the ability of us elves; we can communicate with people through thoughts.
Long Ling placed her hand in the High Priest’s palm, and the High Priest slowly gripped her hand.
Following her fingertips, Long Ling felt enveloped by cool water, as if she had instantly turned into a young dragon, swimming back and forth in the warm current.
The last time I examined your body, you were still a dragon egg, and your body and soul were very weak. You are very healthy now. What happened in between?
I had some special encounters, but I cannot tell you about them yet.
High Priest, why can I sometimes hear other people’s thoughts, but sometimes I can’t?
Because you have not fully inherited the elven talent. Your mind-reading ability is not as good as a pure-blood elf’s. Elves also cannot read other people’s thoughts anytime and anywhere. It is also affected by the distance and the intensity of the other person’s emotions.
So that was it. No wonder she could sometimes hear what Violet was thinking, and sometimes she heard nothing.
A moment later, the High Priest released her hand and turned to Mo Dai, speaking gently: “Long Ling’s body is completely healthy. You no longer need to look for medicine for her.”
Mo Dai was overjoyed and immediately embraced Long Ling. The old tribal leader also said gratefully, “Thank you so much all these years.”
The High Priest, holding the staff, was about to leave. Long Ling thought of Violet’s leg injury and quickly said to Mo Dai, “Mom, I want the medicine to treat Violet’s leg injury.”
Since she promised the child, it was difficult to go back on her word. Giving the medicine could be considered settling the score with Violet.
Seeing that her daughter’s health was fine, Mo Dai was finally willing to take out the hard-won high-level magic plant, stopping the High Priest: “High Priest, please take a look at this magic plant. Can you refine a medicine that can treat leg injuries for me?”
The High Priest accepted the magic plant and said, “It will take a month to refine.”
Long Ling immediately nodded. As long as Violet’s leg injury could be cured, she was willing to wait no matter how long it took.
