- Chapter 57 - Continued Breaking Down
Violet didn’t even glance at the agreement, but looked towards Long Ling.
Long Ling avoided Violet’s gaze, picked up the quill, and meticulously wrote her name in the signature field.
Violet’s eyes were filled with coldness. Was Long Ling so desperate to leave her immediately?
She was so impatient to leave now; she would definitely regret it later. She would never find a dragon as excellent as her.
Even if Long Ling later cried and begged her to take her back, clinging to her leg, she would not offer her the fiancée position again.
Violet lifted her chin, waiting for Long Ling to change her mind.
Long Ling’s eyes were lowered, writing stroke by stroke with great concentration. She had always worked hard to learn the knowledge of this world. After she finished writing, she put down the quill and pushed the agreement toward Violet.
“Your Grace the Duke, it’s your turn to sign.”
Such a cold tone. Didn’t she used to call her Violet?
Now that she had a chance to separate from her, she started calling her “Your Grace the Duke.”
Alpha dragons on four legs were everywhere. Did she think she was indispensable?
Violet picked up the quill and signed her name on the agreement.
The ink from the quill pressed hard into the paper, saturating it, the handwriting arrogant and domineering.
Long Ling’s neatly written name stood in stark contrast to Violet’s name.
She had already given up. Violet didn’t like her, not even her pheromones.
Long Ling felt a pang of sadness and said softly, “There’s one more copy to sign, at this spot.”
A pale, slender finger pointed at the white paper, the nail neatly trimmed and rounded.
Violet glanced at Long Ling’s hand, a dark flash crossing her eyes, and she signed both copies of the termination agreement.
Mo Dai noticed the quick progress and inwardly sighed that her daughter was truly hers, possessing her demeanor from back then.
“Since both copies are signed, from now on, our Long Ling has nothing to do with His Grace the Duke. All compensation properties will be transferred to His Grace the Duke’s name within the next month. We will leave today.”
Long Ling didn’t expect to leave so quickly and subconsciously looked at Violet.
Violet’s expression was displeased, her dark red lips appearing even colder.
Mo Dai turned to Long Ling and said, “You put away your copy of the agreement, and just leave the Duke’s copy there.”
Long Ling nodded in agreement and picked up the top copy of the termination agreement.
Violet immediately grabbed the agreement, the faint blue veins visible on her fair, slender hand.
Her arrogant gaze locked onto Long Ling, her aura extremely powerful. Long Ling suddenly felt a chilling sensation, sensing that the evil dragon lady might tear up the agreement at any moment.
Long Ling tugged several times but couldn’t snatch it back. She wondered if her mother had prepared a backup.
Long Ling had no choice but to let go, leaving that copy for Violet, and picking up the one remaining on the table.
“Your Grace the Duke, you take that one. I will keep this one safe.”
Long Ling rolled up the agreement. Mo Dai wrapped Long Ling in an embrace, patting her shoulder gently: “Good child, let’s leave in a moment.”
The old clan leader also took her granddaughter’s hand: “Do Grandma and Mom need to help you pack your luggage?”
Since the agreement was signed, their small family couldn’t cling to the Duke’s great tree. That was fine. Fortunately, they escaped without much trouble. They wouldn’t have to deal with the powerful aristocracy anymore.
Long Ling shook her head slightly: “No need, I can pack it myself.”
She looked at Violet. Violet was still tightly clutching the agreement, the blue veins on the back of her hand even more pronounced. A layer of frost covered her beautiful face, and her arrogant gaze never landed on Long Ling.
Long Ling knew Violet hadn’t liked her for a long time. She turned around, her back to Violet, and went to the bedroom to pack her clothes.
Violet watched Long Ling turn and leave without any hesitation, not even saying a single soft word to her. A surge of inexplicable anger rose in her heart.
Her tone grew even colder: “Marcia, go and help Miss Long Ling pack.”
Marcia the housekeeper had served by Violet’s side for many years and knew that the Duke was only upset today because of Miss Long Ling and was just throwing a tantrum. Her true intention was certainly not to let Miss Long Ling go.
Housekeeper Marcia tactfully advised: “Your Grace, Miss Long Ling also planted some vegetables on the farm, which won’t be ripe for another half a month. How about waiting until the vegetables are ripe before letting Miss Long Ling take them? And the Old Lady and Madam Mo Dai haven’t stayed in the manor for very long either.”
Violet finally looked at Long Ling. Since she liked planting vegetables on the farm, she couldn’t possibly abandon the vegetables she had painstakingly cultivated for so long.
Long Ling pondered for a moment: “I’ll leave those vegetables for Your Grace the Duke to eat. Do Grandma and Mom want to stay longer?”
Mo Dai said: “Our family moved from the East and are accustomed to Eastern-style pavilions and terraces; we’re not used to Western-style architecture.”
The old clan leader, seeing her daughter intent on leaving, followed suit: “We have some little dragons back home who are always causing trouble, so I, an old woman, can’t stay here for long either.”
Violet’s gaze grew colder inch by inch, and her tone became even more ruthless: “You can leave whenever you want to.”
Long Ling only brought one suitcase when she arrived, which didn’t contain many clothes. When she left, Housekeeper Marcia came to help her pack, filling six boxes with gems and gold coins all gifts Violet had given her along with the custom-made high-end dresses.
Long Ling was surprised and quickly said, “These things are not mine.”
Housekeeper Marcia instructed the servants to load them onto the carriage: “These were all gifts from His Grace the Duke. Since you are leaving now, please take them with you.”
Violet hadn’t allowed her to visit the treasure room to admire the gems a few days ago, so why was she letting her take all these things away now that she was leaving?
She wasn’t bored with the strawberry-scented Alpha? She had even signed the agreement so quickly, without any thought of trying to keep her.
Violet had a mountain of gold coins and so many precious gems; what she gave her was merely a drop in the ocean, nothing significant. Perhaps she just wanted to quickly dismiss her and stop her from being self-deluded.
Long Ling’s heart felt a dull ache. She looked at the crystal blue square gem in her palm. This ‘Heart of Eternity’ gem was originally given to her by her grandmother to give to Violet as an engagement token.
She never had the courage to give it to Violet, and now there was no need to leave it with her.
If Violet wouldn’t cherish her person, even less so would she cherish a mere object.
After she delivered the healing potion to Violet, she would completely disappear from Violet’s world.
Perhaps they were never meant to meet.
Long Ling put on the blue square gem. The hard edges of the square gem pressed painfully into her palm.
Violet had never loved her.
Even if she left, Violet could immediately find a new Alpha, as Violet was never short of suitors.
“Long Ling, we need to go now.”
Mo Dai’s voice came from beside her. Long Ling withdrew her gaze, took her mother’s outstretched hand, and got into the departing carriage.
As the carriage passed the tavern, Long Ling saw Nina and Nora waiting for her at the tavern door. Both the human and the dragon had teary eyes.
Long Ling got out of the carriage and embraced both of them.
Nora and Nina were both very sad: “Miss Long Ling, we will miss you. Will you come back someday?”
Long Ling wiped their tears and patted their shoulders: “I don’t know if I’ll ever return, but I’ll miss you two as well. Please give this deed to His Grace the Duke for me. Tell her thank you for the gems and gold coins, and this tavern is a gift in return.”
The tavern deed was neatly folded and handed to Nora.
She didn’t want to owe Violet anything. The tavern was now back on track and consistently profitable. Violet wouldn’t lose money by accepting her tavern.
After settling everything, Long Ling got back into the carriage.
Mo Dai was taking her to the Elven territory. For the next month, they would be completely out of Violet’s domain.
Grandmother was originally going back to the Arnold family, but because Mo Dai and Long Ling, mother and daughter, had just been reunited, Mo Dai worried that Long Ling might not be used to suddenly having a mother and moving to a strange place, so she asked Grandmother to stay with Long Ling for a bit longer.
Once Long Ling was fully adapted to life in the Elven race, Grandmother would return to the Arnold family.
Mo Dai held her long-lost daughter in her arms and discussed with the old clan leader: “Those lazy dragons in the family—let’s make them all go out and work in the future. They shouldn’t think about living off the properties I’m giving them like parasites. Let’s see what they can do. Every single one of them only has a pretty face and nothing else. They can’t just keep relying on their looks to marry an Alpha, can they?”
The old clan leader sighed as well: “You know, the beauty in our family is exchanged for wisdom. Your eldest sister, second sister, third sister, and fifth sister are usually kept at home, and it’s already good if they don’t cause trouble. Eating and drinking doesn’t cost much. Wouldn’t sending them out to work just add to the chaos? They can’t do anything right, and in the end, I, an old woman, will still have to clean up their messes.”
Mo Dai immediately became annoyed: “You’ve been cleaning up their messes all this time, that’s why they’re getting lazier and more useless. Now, rush them all out to work. They’re tough; nothing bad will happen to them.”
The old clan leader blinked her aged eyes: “You weren’t raised to be useless, were you? Occasionally, there’s a genetic mutation in the family, and we can manage to hang on. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Why bother wasting the effort? If you absolutely want them to work, you go and rush them yourself.”
Mo Dai rolled her eyes at the old clan leader. Seeing Long Ling resting her chin in her hands, listening obediently to her and her grandmother’s conversation, she couldn’t help but rub her daughter’s head.
“Xiao Ling, when we return to the Elven race, Mom will take you to see many places. I have properties in places without a Dragon Royal Family. After you take them over, you’ll definitely meet more excellent Omegas. Don’t think about that Duke anymore.”
Long Ling pinched her fingertips: “I don’t want to meet new Omegas. I want the medicine to treat Violet’s leg injury.”
The high-grade magical plants that Mo Dai and her wife painstakingly obtained were originally meant to nourish Long Ling’s body. When they returned, she would have the priest check if Long Ling still needed them. If not, they could give them to that evil dragon Duke.
Now that Violet was no longer her daughter’s fiancée, Mo Dai was naturally unhappy about giving such a good thing to Violet instead of using it on her own family.
How much grief had her daughter suffered? Now she wasn’t even interested in Omegas.
“Didn’t you and Violet already break up? Her leg injury will be her Alpha’s concern in the future. Why are you still so focused on her?”
Long Ling’s heart clenched painfully at the thought of Violet having another Alpha.
She suppressed her melancholy, took a few deep breaths, and tried to make her tone sound as normal as possible: “But I still hope she’s healthy and don’t want her to always be in a wheelchair. Even if we’re separated, and she has another Alpha later, it doesn’t matter.”
Mo Dai knew her daughter hadn’t recovered yet and stroked her head: “Mom will give you the medicine. We’ll have the Elves help prepare it when we get back.”
The old clan leader patted Long Ling’s hand: “Child, you haven’t spoken the whole way. Have you been thinking about this the whole time? You don’t have to stay in the carriage with Mom and Grandma; go out and get some fresh air.”
Mo Dai also remembered that Long Ling and Aerith had a good relationship before: “Aerith is riding outside. You can go with her and let her teach you how to ride.”
Long Ling nodded gently. The carriage stopped. Mo Dai had someone lead a gentle white horse over, let Long Ling mount it, and asked Aerith to look after her daughter.
Aerith and Long Ling rode side by side. All around them were dense trees and plants. There had been a light rain in the morning, and the air still carried a hint of earthy smell.
They didn’t ride fast. Long Ling usually traveled by carriage and didn’t have much experience riding a horse. The horse walked leisurely through the forest, easing some of the tension in her heart.
Long Ling thanked Aerith: “Aerith, thank you for helping me before. The vegetables you sent were of excellent quality, and the tavern’s business improved a lot those few months.”
Aerith looked at the crystal-clear dragon horn under the sunlight, her emerald eyes rippling with softness: “You also sent me several carts of strawberries. They were delicious. You wrote to me saying you wanted to brew some strawberry wine. Did you ever brew it?”
Long Ling was a little proud: “I brewed hundreds of barrels, but I gave the tavern to Duke Violet. I’ll have to brew more if I want to drink strawberry fruit wine in the future.”
Aerith said warmly: “I saved a lot of the strawberries you gave me, and they’re still as fresh as when they were first picked. When we return to the Elven race, I can make it with you.”
Long Ling nodded, her eyes lighting up: “Okay.”
This scene was seen from afar by Violet in the tall tower. She clenched her fingers so tight that her nails almost dug into her flesh. Her disdainful gaze was tinged with coldness.
It was that Elf again. If it weren’t for her reporting the news, Long Ling would never have left her side.
She had always thought Long Ling had fallen for another Omega. When the Dragon Guard Captain reported that Long Ling was eating with an Elf, she hadn’t paid any attention to the Elf, but now she didn’t expect the Elf and Long Ling to get along so well.
What was so great about Elves? They didn’t even have pheromones. Long Ling would definitely regret it. She would definitely cry and come back to her.
“Issue an order: from this day forward, no Elf is allowed to enter my territory. Violators will be executed on sight.”
“Yes.”
Violet’s anger was not appeased. The agreement in her hand spontaneously combusted, and the grey ashes scattered into the wind.
