- Chapter 59 - Wishing You Happiness Every Day
Long Ling followed Mo Dai to her family’s house in the Elf Tribe. It was a wooden house built high up on an ancient tree, with emerald green vines climbing all around it and brightly colored flowers hanging down.
She climbed up the wooden ladder. Just as she was about to brush past the green door curtain woven from vines, the vines, like shy plants, immediately retracted completely the moment they were touched.
A flicker of light crossed Long Ling’s eyes. She pinched the tendrils of other vines again, and those vines sprang back as if startled, slipping away along her palm.
Ms. Mo Dai, holding a bouquet of fresh flowers, put her arm around Long Ling’s shoulders: “You can play later. Your mother has been waiting for us for a long time.”
Long Ling quickly followed Mo Dai, entering the room with her grandmother.
The wooden house’s room wasn’t large. After passing through the cozy living room, they reached the bedroom after only a few steps.
Mo Dai pushed open the door. Lying on the bed in the bedroom was a silver-haired elf. Her face was a little pale, and she looked like she was ill, but her gaze towards them was very gentle.
“Shirley, I’m back, and I brought our daughter home.”
Mo Dai presented the flowers to her wife, took Long Ling’s hand, placed it in Shirley’s palm, and placed her own hand over her wife’s.
“Your mother was injured when she was gathering herbs with me and needs to rest in bed for a while.”
Long Ling felt the elf mother’s hand was cold and couldn’t help but worry: “Does she just need to lie in the bedroom like this?”
Mo Dai stroked Long Ling’s head: “You don’t need to worry about Mom. When she recovers, she can spend time with you.”
Shirley touched her daughter’s cheek, then touched her healthy, glossy dragon horns: “You’ve lost a little weight but gotten much stronger. I’ve prepared a lot of things for you. Later, let Mom take you to see your house.”
Long Ling felt a bit shy, having her cheek touched by such a great beauty suddenly.
Shirley looked at the old patriarch behind Long Ling: “Would you like to stay here for a few more days?”
The old patriarch nodded: “I’ll stay here with Little Ling for a few days.”
Shirley nodded slightly. Mo Dai, seeing she looked tired, said gently: “I’ll take our daughter to see her room. We’ll all have a reunion dinner tonight.”
Long Ling followed behind Mo Dai, crossing a wooden suspension bridge between two ancient trees. Her small house was right next to her mother’s.
Mo Dai handed the key to Long Ling: “Little Ling, go and have a look yourself. Everything in this room was arranged by your mother. See if anything is missing; Mom can help you prepare it.”
Long Ling felt a surge of excitement in her heart; this was the first time she was about to own a property completely her own.
The exterior of this small house was the same as the one Mo Dai and Shirley lived in, except for a wooden sign planted by the door and a pink mailbox.
The wooden sign was shaped like a young dragon cub and read “Long Ling’s Home” in the language of the Odel continent, which must have been written by Mo Dai. Below it was a string of Elvish, which must have been written by her elf mother.
Long Ling touched the vines hanging down from the door, startling the shy vines away. She inserted the key, turned it, and opened the door to the house.
The floor of the room was clean, the sunlight streamed in, and the walls were pink and white. A very beautiful oil painting hung in the living room. Long Ling walked over and saw that it was the same as the painting in the photo frame in Mo Dai’s bedroom: Mo Dai and Shirley standing close together, happily holding the dragon egg.
She found a photo album on the table. The first page of the album was a dragon egg, the sapphire-blue dragon egg occupying the entire blank frame. The date was three hundred years ago, recording the birth of the dragon egg. Each subsequent picture documented the daily life of the two novice mothers busy with the dragon egg. Many elves gathered to bless the dragon egg and hold a feast until the pictures recorded a hundred days later—
The beautiful, perfect dragon egg gradually developed decaying grey spots. These grey spots could not be erased, and their area expanded day by day. The egg’s original blue color slowly became cold and pale. They sought the Great Priest, but nothing could be done.
The dragon egg was transported thousands of miles away from the Elf Tribe’s land, and after searching for many people, it was finally entrusted to the care of the old patriarch grandmother.
The following pictures were scenes Long Ling hadn’t seen in her memories as a dragon egg: Mo Dai and Shirley evading pursuit, traveling thousands of miles to visit her, bringing rare medicinal herbs.
The dragon egg could only stay in the Dragon Pool. The two looked at the dragon egg reluctantly until dawn the next day before hurriedly leaving.
After finishing the photo album, Long Ling felt a warmth in her heart.
Closing the album, she noticed a pile of clothes on the sofa, seemingly sewn stitch by stitch by hand.
Mo Dai stood beside her: “These are the clothes your mother and I made for you, from inner to outer wear. The clothes you wore when you were little were also made by your mother. Do you like them?”
Long Ling nodded emphatically: “I love them very much.”
Mo Dai opened a box on the table, which was full of shiny golden ingots: “This is the pocket money Mom saved for you. I’ll give you a box every week from now on. There are also crystal, beryl, and agate jewelry in your bedroom’s dressing table. You can wear them for fun when you have time.”
Long Ling remembered the six chests of gold coins and jewels Violet had given her and quickly said, “That’s too much, Mom. Violet gave me a lot of wealth; I’m not short of money anymore.”
Mo Dai patted her hand instead: “What she gave is what she gave, and what Mom gives is what Mom gives. Your former fiancée was very forceful, and Mom doesn’t like her much, but she was indeed quite generous.”
The old patriarch interjected: “She’s not just rich; she’s also a member of the royal family. Her ancestors have always been wealthy. Those six chests of wealth were just crumbs that fell through her fingers. More importantly, she has many fiefdoms, she’s the governor of the Grasse Harbor, and she has a lot of influence. She’s young and beautiful, too.”
The old patriarch grandmother still regretted it a little. If Mo Dai hadn’t insisted on taking the child away and if that Duke hadn’t been unwilling to marry Long Ling immediately, she really wouldn’t have given up such a good marriage prospect.
Mo Dai glared at the old patriarch: “The child’s mood has finally improved a little these past two days, and you bring this up again. Where can’t she find an excellent Omega? Violet might be good in a thousand ways, but she’s not a good match for Long Ling. In a few days, I’ll take Long Ling to a banquet. She’s bound to meet an Omega the child genuinely likes.”
Long Ling had been with Violet for so long; it wasn’t easy to forget her. But that bad woman didn’t need her, an Alpha, and she even said Long Ling could leave whenever she wanted. She probably already found another Alpha to keep her company now, right?
Long Ling said to Mo Dai: “Mom, I’m a little tired and want to rest first. I’ll have dinner with Grandma and Elf Mom later.”
Mo Dai stroked Long Ling’s head: “Alright. Grandma and I will leave first. Get a good sleep. You’ve been traveling hard these past few days.”
Long Ling watched Mo Dai and her grandmother leave the room, even thoughtfully closing the door. Only then did she return to her own bedroom.
Lying on the warm, soft bed, she could hear the birds singing outside and smell the fragrance of the surrounding flowers and plants. It was completely different from the luxurious big bed and quiet, ambiguous atmosphere she slept in with Violet.
It felt like sleeping in the embrace of nature. She thought she would have trouble falling asleep in a strange environment, but she closed her eyes and quickly drifted off.
In her dream, she dreamt of Violet again. She was pressed against the dark secret room by Violet.
Violet leaned down, her cold, beautiful lips exhaling scorching breaths, brushing against the corner of Long Ling’s mouth. Violet’s soft curves pressed against her cheek.
After they passionately kissed for a while, Long Ling knelt before Violet, kissing along Violet’s long legs. The snowy skin was dyed with a rose-like blush.
Long Ling woke up from her dream, drenched in sweat, her mind filled with Violet. She was still very thirsty after waking up.
She frantically got out of bed and quickly poured herself a large glass of water. The cold water poured into her stomach, and her mind gradually cleared up.
This wasn’t the secret room; she wasn’t still being locked up by Violet. She had never serviced Violet like that when she was locked in the secret room. Why was she having such a strange dream?
She wouldn’t like that bad woman anymore; it must have been because she was too thirsty before going to sleep!
After calming her breathing, Long Ling was soaked all over. She found the bathroom, took a shower, changed into a clean, beautiful dress, and then went to her mothers’ and grandmother’s place.
The family had a reunion dinner that night. After eating, Long Ling took a walk and chatted with her family. Back in her own small bed, she pulled the pillow over and pressed it against her head.
After tossing and turning for a long time in bed, Long Ling closed her eyes. She fell asleep quickly this time and didn’t dream of Violet.
However, she woke up in the middle of the night. The surroundings were quiet.
Long Ling couldn’t sleep, so she went out for a walk alone. The curved vines in the forest emitted a pale green glow. White petals exuded an ivory glow and fragrance. Many fireflies fluttered their wings in the air, flashing on and off.
Long Ling lay under a tree, her head resting on her arm, looking up at the stars. The night wind was cool, gently lifting the hair near her ears.
She and Violet might never see each other again. Violet was probably tired of her long ago. Now that she was truly gone, Violet must be very satisfied, right?
Long Ling cleared her mind. Her thick eyelashes blinked gently, and a trace of moisture crossed her eyes. Suddenly, she felt a faint sound of footsteps beside her.
She thought she might be in someone’s way by lying there, so she couldn’t help but ask: “Do you need me to move?”
She heard a rustling sound. The person sat down on the grass beside her. Long Ling turned her head. Aeloris was lying beside her, smiling at her: “No need to move.”
Surprise flashed in Long Ling’s eyes: “It’s so late. Why are you here?”
Aeloris blinked lightly: “I couldn’t sleep.”
Seeing Long Ling’s eyes were like a little rabbit again, Aeloris asked: “Do you have something on your mind?”
Long Ling nodded gently.
Aeloris tucked her hair behind her ear: “Do you want me to take you somewhere else to play? I know where a group of very cute Moon-Shadow Rabbits is.”
Long Ling hesitated: “But it’s very late. Will we disturb anyone?”
Aeloris took her hand proactively, her eyes bright and mischievous: “It’s okay; everyone is asleep.”
Long Ling followed Aeloris’s steps. They both had wings. The night wind brushed against their skin, the coolness settling over them like water, which felt refreshing and comfortable.
They passed through the dense forest and came to a large patch of mushroom woods, just in time to see a group of pink little rabbits munching on grass on the ground.
The fuzz on these little rabbits looked fluffy, and in the moonlight, they resembled small, glowing light balls.
Aeloris gave her a bag and took one herself.
Long Ling and she exchanged glances and lunged towards the little rabbits. She didn’t manage to catch one right away. The glowing little rabbit hopped twice in front of her and then turned into an ordinary grayish-yellow little mushroom.
Long Ling thought she was hallucinating. After lunging several times without success, she asked Aeloris: “Did this rabbit turn into a mushroom? Or is it hiding under the mushroom, and we need to pull it out?”
Aeloris said with a chuckle: “The Moon-Shadow Rabbits ran away long ago. They are generally hard to catch. When they run away, they accidentally drop mushroom spores. The spores quickly grow into mushrooms. Some elves pick these mushrooms to brew tea. They taste like oranges and can enhance the sense of smell. Goblins who live underground love these mushrooms, and they are willing to trade valuable potions for them.”
Long Ling couldn’t help but ask: “So, should we collect the mushrooms?”
Aeloris shook her head: “We said we’d come to catch Moon-Shadow Rabbits. We can look for Moon-Shadow Radishes together. Only with Moon-Shadow Radishes can we attract more Moon-Shadow Rabbits.”
Long Ling followed Aeloris, searching for radishes with her.
The radishes Moon-Shadow Rabbits like are different from ordinary radishes. They are nearly transparent in the moonlight and buried deep underground. Only the pale purple radish leaves emit faint purple light, making them very difficult to find. They are also scarce and require a lot of luck to locate.
Long Ling and Aeloris searched for an hour and finally found a small patch of radishes.
“Wow, how lucky! There are so many, ten of them! We can invite many Moon-Shadow Rabbits now.”
Long Ling hadn’t expected her luck to be so good. She and Aeloris dug out the radishes together, shaking off the dirt.
They placed the Moon-Shadow Radishes on the ground together. Soon after, Long Ling saw a magical and dreamy scene.
A large group of Moon-Shadow Rabbits of different colors emerged from the dense forest. Fluffy little rabbits hopped and skipped towards them in groups.
Aeloris handed a Moon-Shadow Radish to her: “Now you can take the radish and invite a little rabbit to sleep with you. That way, you can have a good dream.”
Long Ling was stunned. She hadn’t expected someone to spend so much time with her late at night just so she could have a good sleep.
Long Ling felt a bit touched. She took the radish and offered it to the pink little rabbit closest to her.
“Little rabbit, can you come home and sleep with me?”
The Moon-Shadow Pink Rabbit hopped a few times in front of her. Long Ling quickly placed the radish in front of it.
After the pink rabbit hugged and ate the radish, it began to perform a joyful rabbit dance in front of her.
The pink rabbit had a happy rhythm in the moonlight. As it danced, colorful spores fell all around, and those spores quickly grew into a small patch of mushrooms, like a small, enclosed stage.
Long Ling’s heart was completely struck. When the glowing little rabbit finished dancing and jumped into her arms, her face couldn’t help but break into a brilliant smile.
Long Ling stroked the Moon-Shadow Rabbit and sincerely thanked her: “Thank you, Aeloris. I love the little rabbit so much.”
Aeloris saw the beautiful dragon girl in front of her, the light rekindled in her ice-blue eyes.
She picked the small mushrooms, used magic to ripen them, and lightly blew, releasing a large swath of colorful spores in front of Long Ling.
“Long Ling, wishing you happiness every day.”
