Life After Being Claimed by the Disabled Dragon Lady - Chapter 56
Violet stared at the old patriarch’s aged face, then glanced at Modena, thinking of Dragon Bell’s unusual behavior these past few days.
So, she had gotten in touch with her family and couldn’t wait to escape from her side.
Violet’s expression darkened: “When your family was in danger, you couldn’t wait to sign an agreement with me. Now that you have money, you want to redeem Dragon Bell and tear up the agreement. Do you think I don’t have the authority to keep all of you detained at Port Glace?”
The old patriarch broke out in a cold sweat under Violet’s questioning. In truth, they were at fault here. The agreed-upon end date hadn’t arrived, yet they were eager to take Dragon Bell away.
Violet’s words were powerful and resonant. Dragon Guards in iron armor stepped out from the shadows, long swords at their waists, looking menacing.
Modena, who had evaded the Dragon Royal Family’s pursuit for years and established commercial networks across various regions, was much bolder than her mother. She wouldn’t be easily intimidated, believing the royals could do whatever they pleased.
Modena did not back down, meeting Violet’s gaze: “Duchess Violet, since you have no intention of marrying Dragon Bell, we will take her away and won’t bother you again. We can pay off the money. Prematurely terminating the contract is not a violation of the terms, and both parties will have better development.”
“We are Dragon Bell’s kin. Are you going to detain us? If Dragon Bell knew her grandmother and mother were suffering in prison because of her, wouldn’t her heart suffer too? Or do you think detaining us will make her stay?”
As a woman herself, Modena could tell Violet didn’t want to let her daughter go, but she wouldn’t allow her daughter to be kept like a pet.
Even if the Duchess couldn’t give her daughter happiness, as a mother, she wouldn’t agree to them being together.
Violet’s face turned grim. She currently had no desire to marry Dragon Bell. Her legs were disabled. Should she wear a wedding dress while sitting in a wheelchair?
Or should the people of the Otherworld Continent know that she, Violet, was disabled and could only find an Alpha to marry and lay a dragon egg? All the merits and achievements she had gained as an Omega over the years would vanish like smoke.
Violet’s eyes were dark: “The agreement has not expired. With less than a year left, I will not agree to let you take her. I am not short of money either. If you want to visit Dragon Bell, you are welcome anytime, but taking her away is out of the question.”
Violet’s tone was too forceful. The Dragon Guards behind her gripped their sword hilts, ready to carry out her orders at any moment.
Modena had encountered this high-and-mighty, unquestionable royal style more than once. Years later, her daughter was about to be bullied by the royals in the same manner.
Modena could no longer tolerate this: “The agreement must be terminated early. I wasn’t present when you signed the agreement. Dragon Bell is my daughter, and as her mother, I have the right to decide her marriage. I also brought the elves with me today. If you want to fight, go ahead and see whose blade is faster, yours or the elves’ arrows sharper!”
The situation instantly became tense. Seeing the deadlock, the old patriarch worried about the repercussions of openly offending Duchess Violet. What good life would their family have afterward?
Young dragons are prone to fiery tempers. Modena was the same; despite being nearly two thousand years old, she was still like a firecracker ready to explode. Even having a gentle elf wife hadn’t changed her temper. What good outcome could come from this besides mutual destruction?
Duchess Violet was unwilling to release the dragon. They were unfamiliar with this manor, so how could they find where Dragon Bell was hidden? Shouldn’t the priority be checking on the child first?
The old patriarch tugged at Modena’s hand and gave her a look, telling her not to rush. She addressed Violet: “We can’t settle anything by negotiating like this. Why don’t we let Dragon Bell come out first and ask for her opinion? We also want to meet with the child. Grandma and Mom have missed her dearly these days. How about that, Your Grace?”
Violet had no reason to prevent Dragon Bell from seeing her relatives. She had previously wronged Dragon Bell, and now knowing that this was Dragon Bell’s mother, not a young Omega dragon Dragon Bell was secretly meeting, a trace of guilt flashed in Violet’s heart. She had confined Dragon Bell for so long for nothing. No wonder Dragon Bell was so adamant about not admitting fault this time.
She had already confined her, so what could she do? This matter would be overlooked for now. As long as the little dragon hadn’t betrayed her, she would release Dragon Bell from the secret room soon.
Thinking of Dragon Bell, Violet’s tone softened: “Very well. I will bring her over.”
Modena and the old patriarch both sighed in relief. Thankfully, Violet wasn’t so ruthless as to deny them even a visit.
Violet left Modena and the old patriarch in the living room and returned to her bedroom, opening the door to the secret room.
She had confined the little dragon for several days, and a feeling of guilt arose in her heart. Seeing the little dragon’s bright eyes again, the dark cloud that had hovered over her heart dispersed, and sweet ripples spread through the lake of her heart.
Even confronting Dragon Bell’s grandmother and mother didn’t bother her, as long as the little strawberry dragon was by her side. She wouldn’t let go easily.
“Go take a bath. Change into a new set of clothes.”
Dragon Bell was surprised by Violet’s sudden gentle tone and thought she was hearing things.
Why would she suddenly agree to let her out? Could it be that Madam Modena had arrived?
When the secret room door opened, and Dragon Bell climbed the steps, her mood instantly brightened upon seeing the brilliant sunshine.
Finally, she wouldn’t be confined to the dark room anymore. Even living in a pile of gold coins wasn’t the same; she still preferred the feeling of sunlight on her body.
Dragon Bell went to the bathroom to clean herself up. The thought of no longer being locked in the dark room made her bathing speed much faster than usual.
Violet sat by the door, waiting for Dragon Bell. Perhaps because the confinement this time was a bit long, she suddenly worried. Would Dragon Bell resent her when she found out she had been wrongly accused?
She had only confined Dragon Bell and spanked her bottom; she hadn’t done anything severe to her. Dragon Bell’s eyes had still been bright when looking at her just now. They would reconcile as they had before.
After all, in her eyes, Dragon Bell was just a newly adult little dragon. Occasional tantrums or attempts to run away could be fixed with a little coaxing.
Violet’s heart settled. She had always been confident that the little dragon was completely within her control.
Dragon Bell changed her clothes and emerged from the bathroom, her hair still damp. She looked as clear and beautiful as a lotus emerging from water. Seeing Violet waiting for her at the door, she was quite flattered.
Violet wasn’t as fierce as before, and the look in her eyes was very gentle. A cozy atmosphere enveloped the two, harmonious as they had been when they were together before.
But Dragon Bell knew that the bad dragon lady could easily turn ruthless. Even when she had pleaded to be let out, saying she hadn’t done anything wrong, the bad dragon lady hadn’t listened to her defense at all.
The bad dragon lady could punish her just by lifting a finger.
Dragon Bell cautiously asked: “Have Madam Modena and my grandmother come together?”
Violet’s good mood instantly vanished. In her eyes, it further confirmed that the little dragon couldn’t wait to leave her.
Violet suppressed the complaint in her heart: “Your grandmother told me she wants to terminate the agreement and take you home.”
A flicker of joy crossed Dragon Bell’s eyes. So, Grandma had really come.
She looked at Violet’s dark golden pupils, unable to discern any emotion.
Dragon Bell instinctively sensed danger and quietly said: “I haven’t seen Grandma in a long time either. I want to talk to her first.”
Seeing that she didn’t immediately express a desire to leave, Violet’s tone was very gentle: “Come here first. I’ll dry your hair. It’s still dripping.”
Dragon Bell walked up to her, and Violet used magic to dry her hair.
Dragon Bell was very beautiful. After all, she was the offspring of an elf and a dragon. Her silver-white hair, once dried, flowed down like a waterfall to her waist, and her features were exquisite and striking.
After Violet finished drying her hair, she gently stroked Dragon Bell’s cheek. Her usually arrogant eyes filled with tenderness. Dragon Bell grasped her finger, stopping her from continuing to caress her.
Violet had previously placed her in the water, swirling her back and forth many times. Her whole body was soaked, and then Violet locked her in the secret room. If the dragon body wasn’t strong and she hadn’t had a blanket, she would have fallen ill and been lying in bed by now.
Wasn’t it too late for the bad woman to remember to cherish her now?
Dragon Bell whispered: “I miss Grandma.”
Violet couldn’t help but feel a little jealous. In all these days, Dragon Bell hadn’t once said she missed her when she spoke.
They went to the living room together. The moment Dragon Bell saw the old patriarch, the old patriarch immediately called out “Little Bell” and pulled Dragon Bell into her embrace.
The kind-faced old lady was full of affection: “My dear granddaughter, you’ve been gone for so long, and you didn’t even write a letter to Grandma. I’ve missed you so much.”
Dragon Bell’s head was rubbed by the old patriarch’s rough hand. Having not felt the care of an elder for a long time, her eyes couldn’t help but well up with tears.
She had a grandmother in her previous world too, who loved her dearly, but in that world, they wouldn’t use such intimate hugs. Her grandmother wouldn’t hold her in her arms and say she was her dear granddaughter.
But the grandmother in this world was different. Not only did she look kind, but she was also very gentle. She often gave her some pocket money and taught her many things.
When she was about to marry Violet, Grandma even secretly slipped envelopes into her luggage, fearing her living expenses wouldn’t be enough.
Although the tavern Grandma gave her was dilapidated and took a long time to fix, Grandma also gave her five hundred silver coins. She knew Grandma owed creditors a lot of money, and anything she gave her was hard-saved, so she was determined not to let Grandma go to jail.
She was still young. Even marrying a complete stranger, she only needed to endure it for one year. No matter how hard it was, she would choose to endure it.
But being held in Grandma’s embrace like this, Dragon Bell’s voice was full of grievance: “Grandma, I miss you too.”
Only in the arms of an elder could she fully allow herself to be a child.
Hearing the grievance in the little dragon’s voice, the old patriarch hugged Dragon Bell tightly. She knew the child had been having a tough time recently, and her aged heart was instantly filled with sorrow.
Her cloudy eyes couldn’t help but turn red. She lowered her voice, full of affection, and said: “Grandma has money now. Your mother gave Grandma a lot of money. Our Little Bell won’t have to suffer anymore.”
Dragon Bell’s tears instantly threatened to overflow. She couldn’t help but bury her head in the old patriarch’s arms and rubbed against her again and again.
The grandmother and granddaughter cried together for a long time. Modena looked at Dragon Bell being held by the old patriarch, feeling a mixture of emotions. She knew her daughter must have suffered.
Violet frowned, watching the little dragon cry in the old patriarch’s arms.
After Dragon Bell finished crying out her grievances, she thought of the “mother” the old patriarch mentioned and was somewhat puzzled: “Mom?”
The old patriarch pulled Modena to her side and introduced her to Dragon Bell: “This is your mother, Long Modena. Grandma didn’t tell you about your mother earlier because she was afraid other little dragons would bully you. Your mother hasn’t abandoned you all these years; she just had unavoidable difficulties. She secretly came to see you every year since you were a dragon egg.”
Modena looked at Dragon Bell gently, trying her best to emanate maternal love.
All of Dragon Bell’s confusion was resolved. She wondered how someone could be so kind, working tirelessly for her, and giving her a very familiar feeling. It turned out to be the mother of this body.
However, she was not the original little dragon. Before she transmigrated, the little dragon in this body was delicate, had weak mental strength, was slow to react, and always seemed foolish in the eyes of other dragons. After she somehow transmigrated, her mental strength and the original little dragons gradually merged, forming a complete individual.
Sometimes, she also felt that perhaps she was originally from this world, but her other soul had wandered to another world and only returned after she reached adulthood.
The merged soul didn’t retain many warm memories of her mother. Instead, she had more memories of being with Grandma. The rambling Grandma would bring delicious food. When sprinkled in warm water, the dragon egg wouldn’t feel cold and could eat its fill.
When the weather was warm, the dragon egg would be carried to the edge of the pond to sunbathe with other little dragons. If naughty little dragons bullied the dragon egg that hadn’t hatched yet, Grandma would use her cane to chase those rascals away. Through the thick shell of the dragon egg, Grandma’s rough hands would gently stroke the little dragon cub’s head again and again.
Sometimes, the dragon egg would want to secretly leave the dragon pool with Grandma. When the limping old woman discovered it, the panting old woman would pick up the dragon egg and put it back into the pond, rambling on and on with words the dragon egg couldn’t understand.
Under Grandma’s encouraging gaze, as Dragon Bell was still hesitant about whether to call out “Mom,” Modena had already pulled her into her embrace and said gently yet firmly: “Mom is back. My baby won’t suffer anymore. Mom will definitely take you away today, and our family will never be separated again.”
Dragon Bell’s body couldn’t help but stiffen slightly. She wasn’t familiar with this new mother. In fact, the dragon she had spent the most time with in this world was only Violet.
The outside world might be exciting, but going to a completely strange place with a newly met mother made Dragon Bell still feel a little scared. She was reluctant to give up the sense of security Violet provided. As long as she was by her side, it seemed she didn’t need to fear anything.
Modena spoke to Violet: “Your Grace, as you can see, Dragon Bell wants to be with her family. Neither of you is satisfied with the current relationship, so let’s terminate the agreement early. We will take Dragon Bell away immediately.”
The old patriarch followed up: “Dragon Bell, do you want to stay with Duchess Violet, or leave here with Grandma?”
Violet stared into Dragon Bell’s eyes. She didn’t believe Dragon Bell truly wanted to leave her. Dragon Bell had promised her that she would always be with her, and they would even get married and lay a dragon egg together in the future.
Dragon Bell felt like she was walking on the edge of a cliff. Under the current circumstances, a choice had to be made. She looked at Violet, then at her mother, Modena.
If she stayed here, Violet would still confine her whenever she wanted, not letting her go anywhere, controlling everything about her. If she went with her mother, Modena, her mother would also give her rare medicinal herbs that could help Violet heal her leg injury.
She didn’t want to be Violet’s choice among many Alphas, not even able to gain a title.
Dragon Bell gathered her courage: “I want to leave with Grandma.”
So, she had planned to leave her all along. She hadn’t wronged Dragon Bell at all.
Violet’s red lips curled coldly: “It doesn’t matter. I’ve been tired of the little strawberry milk dragon for a long time anyway.”
Dragon Bell knew Violet didn’t like the little strawberry milk dragon from the start. She had tried hard to serve and please her, believing she could change everything, but she never expected Violet to be tired of her so soon.
What was wrong with a strawberry-scented Alpha dragon? She couldn’t change her own pheromones. She had already tried applying soaps with other scents.
Dragon Bell fell silent, just looking at Violet, her tears streaming down.
Violet clenched her fingertips. Even though she desperately wanted to hold Dragon Bell’s hand and forbid her from leaving, her pride wouldn’t allow her to speak.
Modena and the old patriarch were a little bewildered. They had negotiated so long, and Violet’s attitude was strong, completely unwilling to let go. Why did she suddenly give in?
Without further delay, Modena immediately placed the termination agreement between Violet and Dragon Bell: “Both of you just need to sign here.”
Once this agreement was signed, even if Violet regretted it, they could take it to the Queen.
