Let Me Go, My Childhood Sweetheart [Rebirth] - Chapter 4
“Was it you who gave the photos to Jinyi?”
“Mhm~ Yes.”
“Then you should also know why I’m here to see you.”
“Huh? Why?”
“You!”
Feigning ignorance, Qin Zhaomu was so angry her face turned red. Just as she was about to say something, Chu Weiran suddenly crossed her arms and smiled at her, saying, “Should I invite you in to sit down?”
“……”
Before she could respond, Chu Weiran spoke again.
“I don’t think there’s any need for you to come in, but I’m a little tired.”
“Chu Weiran! What exactly do you mean?” Qin Zhaomu’s tone was a bit sharp. Chu Weiran seemed startled by it and made an expression of covering her mouth and widening her eyes.
Qin Zhaomu had actually met Chu Weiran quite a few times. After all, they were classmates in college, and Chu Weiran, with her striking looks, shone brightly on campus. Even if Qin Zhaomu didn’t want to know about her, she couldn’t avoid it.
After graduation, Qin Zhaomu joined a building materials company and collaborated with the Chu family. Every time they met, Chu Weiran would lazily sit in her chair, never bothering to look directly at anyone.
After several encounters, Qin Zhaomu concluded that Chu Weiran was nothing more than an unaccomplished rich second generation.
Just a pretty face.
A face that knew how to seduce people.
“You came to me to ask what I mean?”
Chu Weiran seemed sleepy, yawning as she spoke.
“I don’t want to beat around the bush. Since you’ve already sent the photos to Jinyi, there’s no way she and I can be together anymore. So, can you give Ye Yuan back to me?”
“You can be with Jinyi, and I’ll be with A’Yuan.”
Hearing this, Chu Weiran widened her eyes and looked at her in disbelief.
“Miss Qin, are you joking?”
“Are these two people some kind of objects? To be given away so casually?”
“Don’t you like Jinyi? I can give her to you! Just return A Yuan to me.”
As she finished speaking, she noticed Chu Weiran’s expression change, carrying an indescribable feeling. Qin Zhaomu was nearly 1.7 meters tall, while Chu Weiran was a few centimeters shorter and leaning against the door. Logically, Qin Zhaomu should have been looking down on her, but instead, she felt a chill run down her spine.
However, the feeling lasted only a moment. Chu Weiran withdrew her aura and returned to her soft, seductive demeanor, biting her finger as she said, “Come in and talk. We might need to chat for a while.”
Qin Zhaomu froze, watching Chu Weiran’s graceful figure but unable to take a step forward.
She had initially thought Chu Weiran was just a pushover after all, if she had loved Jinyi for so many years, why had she never dared to confess and instead resorted to such methods to let Jinyi know about her relationship with Ye Yuan?
Now, she felt as though she had stepped into a wolf’s den.
Chu Weiran went to the kitchen and heated another cup of milk, casually asking Qin Zhaomu, “What would you like to drink?”
“Anything is fine.”
“Then warm milk it is.”
Chu Weiran moved skillfully, quickly heating two cups of milk. Placing them on the coffee table, she said to Qin Zhaomu, “Sit down. Why are you standing there dumbfounded?”
Her tone was familiar, as if the two were longtime friends.
Qin Zhaomu’s gaze fell on the other cup of warm milk on the coffee table. Chu Weiran followed her gaze and said in a slightly pitiful tone, “You knocked just now, and I didn’t even have time to drink it.”
Ignoring her remark, Qin Zhaomu sat on the sofa and said, “You asked me in just to drink milk?”
“If you have something to say, just say it.”
Chu Weiran looked at her in surprise and let out a laugh.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Did you get it wrong? Weren’t you the one who came looking for me?”
Qin Zhaoyue was growing more and more confused. What exactly was Chu Weiran trying to achieve by sending those photos to Jin Yi?
Judging by her current demeanor, she didn’t seem to care about any of it nor did she seem to care about Jin Yi.
But Qin Zhaoyue knew: just as she loved Ye Yuan deeply, Chu Weiran loved Jin Yi just as intensely.
During their encounters in college, the way Chu Weiran looked at Jin Yi was exactly the same as how she looked at Ye Yuan. There was no mistaking it, Chu Weiran was utterly, hopelessly in love with Jin Yi.
“Why did you send those photos to Jin Yi?”
The milk had cooled down. Chu Weiran picked up the cup and took a small sip.
“No reason. I just felt like doing it.”
Going through all that trouble to take the photos and send them to Jin Yi, only to claim it was for no reason? Qin Zhaoyue absolutely refused to believe she had no ulterior motive.
“You don’t believe me?”
“Of course not. You sent those photos because you want me to break up with Jin Yi, so that you can take him back.”
“Hahaha!” After hearing Qin Zhaoyue’s words, Chu Weiran burst into laughter as if she had just heard the funniest joke.
The more she laughed, the more uneasy Qin Zhaoyue felt. The same eerie sensation she’d felt at the doorway returned.
“Chu Weiran, are you…?”
“Sick?”
Before she could finish, Chu Weiran cut her off.
A faint smile still lingered at the corners of Chu Weiran’s lips as she stretched lazily, her collar pulling open to reveal the pale skin of her chest. Unbothered, she half-reclined on the sofa, took out her phone, and dialed a number.
“Call your A-Yuan.”
The call was answered almost instantly. Before Qin Zhaoyue could react, Ye Yuan’s voice came through from the other end.
“Ranran, what’s up?”
Chu Weiran glanced up at Qin Zhaoyue, noticing her eyelids twitch slightly before she quickly reached out and snatched the phone away.
“Chu Weiran, do you want to know how Jin Yi begged me not to leave yesterday?”
“Oh? Jin Yi begged you?” Chu Weiran’s mouth fell open in disbelief.
“Yes! But my heart belongs only to A-Yuan. Don’t tell him I came here. I’ll return Jin Yi to you.”
Return Jin Yi to you.
Return Jin Yi.
To you…
Hah, Jin Yi did she need Qin Zhaoyue to return him to her?
Jin Yi had never belonged to her in the first place.
Not long after Qin Zhaoyue left, Chu Weiran called Ye Yuan and asked him to come over.
They had been together for over half a year, but she had never once invited him to her home. So when he answered the call, his voice was filled with unmistakable excitement, and he promised to come right away.
After hanging up, Chu Weiran changed into a long sweater and leggings, covering herself up completely.
She arranged the photos neatly and waited for Ye Yuan.
True to his word, he arrived quickly. When Chu Weiran opened the door, he was still panting, likely from running over.
Snow clung to his clothes.
“Come in quickly, it’s cold.”
Chu Weiran had never shown Ye Yuan a warm expression. She knew exactly what he wanted from her.
Afraid she would be displeased, Ye Yuan brushed the snow off his coat and said with a smile, “Heh, the snow’s really coming down hard.”
Chu Weiran didn’t respond and walked back into the living room.
The photos Qin Zhaoyue had left behind were placed on the coffee table. The moment Ye Yuan entered, he saw them. His eyelids twitched in alarm, and he flusteredly tried to explain to Chu Weiran.
“Shh, shut up.”
Ye Yuan was sweating profusely in his panic, reaching out to grab the photos.
“Ranran… let me explain.”
“Explain what? Explain how Qin Zhaomu pleased you so well?”
“I…”
Chu Weiran crossed her legs, waving the photos from the coffee table in front of Ye Yuan. “Are you going to say you were doing this when I called you last night?”
Ye Yuan snatched the photos, urgently pleading, “Ranran, she seduced me. I love you!”
“Is that so?”
“Yes, yes she seduced me. You have to believe me!”
Chu Weiran slapped Ye Yuan’s face, smiling as she said, “If Qin Zhaomu knew about this, how heartbroken she would be.”
Ye Yuan’s face stiffened, his lips trembling too much to form words.
“I know exactly what you want. Don’t disgust me with your excuses.”
“Besides, when I was with you, I always knew this day would come.”
“I’m aware of Qin Zhaomu’s feelings for you too.”
The more she spoke, the more frantic Ye Yuan became. He reached out to grab her, but Chu Weiran swiftly pulled her hand away.
Almost touched him, how disgusting.
Ye Yuan felt awkward under her disdainful gaze, unsure where to put his hands.
“Ranran, I don’t have feelings for her.”
“The evidence is right here. Don’t bother denying it.”
Jin Yi had been holed up at home for several days, drawing little carrots for rabbits.
They were scattered everywhere on the floor, the coffee table, the bed.
When tired, she slept on the sofa or the floor, occasionally remembering to move to the bed.
She was healing in her own way.
Jin Yi had a reserved personality, unwilling to share her troubles with others. Her family and friends knew this, so no one found it strange when she disappeared for a week.
After several days of drifting in a daze, she was jolted awake by a phone call.
She had only fallen asleep at three in the morning and was awakened at six.
Still half-asleep, Jin Yi answered without checking who was calling.
Only when Qin Zhaomu’s voice came through the phone did Jin Yi fully wake up, sitting up abruptly from the sofa.
“Xiao Yi, today is my wedding day with A Yuan. Will you come?”
Jin Yi was momentarily confused, but once she processed the words, she snapped, “Qin Zhaomu, are you out of your damn mind?”
“Have you been smoking again?”
“Get lost!”
She had been smoking every day these past few days, coupled with drinking little water, leaving her voice hoarse and dry.
But Qin Zhaomu had no right to say such things.
Over the past few days, she had come to terms with Qin Zhaomu’s infidelity but hadn’t yet accepted her audacity.
The more she had once admired Qin Zhaomu, the more repulsed she felt now. She wanted nothing to do with her, yet Qin Zhaomu seemed determined to disgust her further.
Since discovering Qin Zhaomu’s betrayal, Jin Yi’s feelings for her had faded rapidly. After days of reflection at home, she realized that what she felt for Qin Zhaomu was never love.
It was merely that Qin Zhaomu happened to fit her ideal type.
And ideal types were utterly unreliable, nothing but nonsense.
Now, the mere thought of Qin Zhaomu evoked nothing but a visceral disgust.
Yet, Qin Zhaomu seemed intent on tormenting her.
Why involve her in the wedding?
And what about Chu Weiran, who went through the trouble of sending her the photos, only to hand her boyfriend over like that?
After Qin Zhaomu left that day, Jin Yi searched for the earlier package.
The sender was “R…”
The phone number also seemed familiar.
It was Chu Weiran.
Upon discovering her boyfriend’s infidelity, her first instinct was to take photos and send them to her.
This was indeed something Chu Weiran would do her actions had always been unpredictable, driven by whims rather than logic. Sometimes, there wasn’t even a reason; she simply felt like doing it.
Even as a child, Chu Weiran had been this way odd and inscrutable.
After answering a phone call, Jin Yi snapped fully awake. She sighed as she surveyed the chaotic mess filling the room.
She wasn’t a neat freak, but the sight of the room in such disarray, all thanks to her, left her feeling restless and unsettled.
Jin Yi first opened the window to let in some fresh air, then sighed again as she looked at the scattered drawings covering the floor. She crouched down and began picking them up, one by one.
The deeper she went, the more her brow furrowed.
Why had she drawn, a little bunny eating a carrot?!
Just as she was stewing in frustration, her phone suddenly rang, the tone for a text message.
At first, Jin Yi assumed it was spam. But holding the drawing in her hand and reflecting on recent events, a strong intuition told her the message was likely from Chu Weiran.
Before she could check, her phone rang again this time, it was her mother calling.
“Hey, Xiao Yi, what on earth is going on with Qin Zhaomu?” Her mother’s voice crackled with fury over the line, but Jin Yi’s attention was completely captured by the text from Chu Weiran.
“Wedding or funeral, Xiao Yi, care to see?”
