Chapter 5: Teddy Bear’s Game World (4)
The inside of the storage room did not look the way Xie Yun had imagined. There was no chaotic pile of messy clutter stacked around. There were only a few discarded desks and chairs and several storage lockers that had been defaced with graffiti until they were unrecognizable.
Rather than a storage room, it would be more appropriate to call this place an abandoned classroom.
Unexpectedly, besides Xie Yun, there was actually another person standing inside the storage room.
A man.
That man had a tall stature, broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and beautiful, powerful muscle lines. He wore a black jacket with a hood over his head, and he was facing away from the entrance, gazing out the window.
What caught Xie Yun’s attention was not the man’s robust and powerful body, but rather his naturally hanging left hand, which was gripping a bloody wood-cutting cleaver!
Fresh blood dripped down drop by drop, pooling into a puddle on the floor.
It was a serial killer.
Cold sweat slid down from Xie Yun’s temples. Behind him, heavy footsteps—sounding as dull as a heavy object smashing onto the ground—had already vibrated loudly within the corridor.
There was no possibility of choosing again.
There was nowhere to flee.
A dead end.
Right at this moment, the man heard the footsteps in the corridor. He turned his head around, just happening to lock eyes with Xie Yun who was standing at the entrance.
Upon seeing Xie Yun, he was first startled, and then the corners of his lips hooked up into an intrigued smile.
The man’s night vision was extremely excellent, so even in this darkness, he could clearly see the despair and fear on the young man’s face standing at the entrance, his trembling lips, and…
An all-or-nothing gaze, like that of a dying prey.
Seemingly moved by this gaze, his heart—which had always been as stagnant as dead water without any ripples—actually skipped a beat.
The man thought to himself: “How strange.”
He knew very well that what he should be doing right now was raising the cleaver in his hand and brutally ripping open the young man’s belly, letting this fresh body completely lose its vitality.
Yet, inexplicably, he did not want to do so. After being an NPC for so many years, this was the very first time he had encountered this kind of situation. He… seemed unable to bring himself to land a lethal blow on the person in front of him.
He even felt an impulse to get close to the other party.
Too strange.
The man could not fathom where this kind of emotion originated from, so he did not make any move. Instead, he stood in place, staring at the young man in front of him with a half-smile.
Standing at the entrance, Xie Yun was practically waiting for death. Unexpectedly, several dozen seconds passed and the other party did not move an inch. He looked over in surprise and hesitation, a tiny spark of hope igniting in the depths of his heart.
The elevator serial killer in the corridor was getting closer and closer. Xie Yun hardened his heart and took a step forward.
However, it was not to run away, but to walk straight toward the man’s direction.
He had already thought it through. Those corpse pieces inside the elevator just now had clearly told him that encountering the one in the corridor meant it was absolutely impossible to live. It was a certain-death scenario.
As for the one in front of his eyes? Xie Yun could not figure out his background, but solely based on the point that the other party did not rush over to kill him at the very first moment, he was already much better than the one in the corridor!
Staying in place without moving or recklessly going to another wide-open room meant death all the same. He might as well gamble on this silver lining of survival!
As he drew closer, Xie Yun finally saw the smile beneath the man’s hood.
The man stared intently at him, and then, raised the cleaver in his hand.
Did he gamble wrong?
Xie Yun closed both eyes.
The anticipated excruciating pain did not arrive. In the darkness, a person’s sense of hearing became exceptionally acute. He could hear the gradually approaching footsteps of the other serial killer behind him, as well as the extremely faint chuckle of the man in front of him.
Xie Yun opened his eyes and saw that the man had already pulled back the cleaver. Bracing one hand against the door, he had actually pushed open a slit in the storage locker behind him for him!
Although the inside of the storage locker was very narrow, it was already sufficient to accommodate one person hiding away.
A silver lining in a dark cloud. Xie Yun felt a surge of joy in his heart and hastily squeezed inside through that slit.
Right at the moment he hid himself well, the serial killer from the western elevator car walked to the classroom entrance.
The stench of blood in the air abruptly became turbid and heavy, even closer to putrefaction. Xie Yun desperately suppressed the urge to vomit, raising his hand to cover his own mouth.
Seeing the man standing in front of the storage locker, that serial killer paused his footsteps, his voice thick and hoarse: “Number 049, you aren’t going to capture prey, what are you standing here for?”
The man addressed as Number 049 said: “Waiting for the prey to deliver itself to the door, of course.”
Unlike that elevator serial killer, Number 049’s voice was very pleasant to hear, except his tone was frivolous and detached, carrying an indescribable indifference.
Hearing this, the elevator serial killer gave a light sneer, yet he did not feel that this answer was particularly strange.
Number 049 was considered an oddity in their NPC circle. He always kept to himself, had a bizarre personality, and even covered his face, so no one knew what kind of unpresentable appearance he possessed. Yet those blind women still gathered around him every day, it was truly bizarre!
He said gruffly: “Then you just wait here!”
Number 049 said: “Naturally. However, since I am already here on the first floor, you should go to another floor.”
The elevator serial killer said angrily: “Who needs your extra chatter!”
After saying that, he really turned around and walked out the door. Judging by the direction, he was probably returning to the western side.
The sound of footsteps gradually faded away, and the chime of the elevator being pressed open rang out once more. Number 049 raised his hand to tug at his hood, took a step back, and opened the door of the storage locker behind him.
Inside the storage locker, the young man was still curling his body. For some reason, he felt a bit disappointed in his heart: “How could I have a special feeling toward such a cowardly and weak person?”
In the next instant, the young man turned his head, his two eyes staring straight at Number 049. The expression that had been on the verge of collapsing just now was no longer visible on his face. Instead, it was filled with an unbelievable joy.
Xie Yun crawled out from the storage locker, his gaze locking dead onto the man in front of him as if afraid of losing him, while simultaneously calling out tentatively: “…Yu Wenshui?”
Number 049 knit his brows: “What?”
“You are Yu Wenshui, right,” Xie Yun’s emotions became even more agitated upon hearing his counter-question, “I, I knew it. I miss you so much, I really miss you so much…”
Yu Wenshui.
Number 049 searched through his mind, yet he completely failed to find any memories related to this name.
He thought that the other party had probably mistaken him for someone else.
According to his personality, he should deny it immediately. Yet out of a bizarre psychology, Number 049 did not make a sound at the first moment, wanting to see what further words the young man would speak next.
Xie Yun slowly stood up. Seeing that the man did not produce any reaction to his words, the joy on his face gradually faded, turning into hesitation.
He called out “Yu Wenshui” once more, took two steps forward, and raised his hand, wanting to touch the man’s hood.
Number 049 was quick of eye and deft of hand, swatting his hand away with a slap, saying coldly: “What are you trying to do?”
“I…”
Xie Yun was at a loss for words for a moment. He also couldn’t explain where he got the audacity to actually initiative contact with a serial killer. However, the other party had just protected him from another serial killer’s hands, which caused Xie Yun to develop an indescribable sense of trust toward him.
Moreover, how could he possibly mistake Yu Wenshui’s voice?
That was the object of his secret crush for a full twelve years!
However, if it truly were Yu Wenshui himself, the man should have revealed his identity when he saw him.
Did he really mistake the person, or was there another hidden story?
The man refused to take off his hood, making it impossible to see his facial features and confirm his identity; everything was impossible to discuss.
Xie Yun lowered his head somewhat despondently. Seeing the man’s left hand gripping the cleaver, his heart sank again: “Yu Wenshui is right-handed, but the man in front of me is left-handed.”
His heart that was brimming with anticipation was instantly cast back into the abyss. His mouth was filled with bitterness as he said: “I’m sorry, it seems I really mistook the person.”
Having been an NPC for so long, Number 049 had seen countless faces crying in agonizing, distorted pain, yet not a single person was like the young man in front of him—able to bring a wave of discomfort over him using just a single downcast expression.
The hand gripping the hilt of the knife tightened unconsciously. Number 049 discovered that he actually had an impulse to pull the despondent person in front of him into his embrace and comfort him properly.
Could he have gone crazy?
