Chapter 4: Teddy Bear’s Game World (3)
Accompanied by a creaking sound, a dense stench of blood instantly filled every single corner of this classroom.
The classroom was extremely quiet—so quiet that Xie Yun could hear the other person’s heavy, ox-like breathing sound. Between the gaps of the desks and chairs, a pair of cloth shoes soaked in fresh blood and an axe dragging on the ground were slowly moving from the front door toward the interior of the room.
The soles of the cloth shoes made contact with the floor tiles and separated again, emitting a sticky, squelching noise that made one’s skin crawl, leaving behind one footprint after another on the floor tiles. Crimson liquid also continuously dripped down from the blade of the axe. Quite obviously, this blood belonging to the previous victim had only just been stained on not long ago.
Xie Yun involuntarily held his breath.
Death here was not a joke.
He had originally pinned his hopes on this friend just coming in to take a casual look and leaving very soon. However, things went against his wishes. The other party seemed inexplicably certain that someone was in this classroom. Not only did he not leave, but he also rummaged through and searched exceptionally thoroughly.
As the distance closed, the serial killer’s thick, heavy breathing, the sound of the axe blade dragging on the floor, and that sticky sound of footsteps were each and all stimulating his nerves.
Xie Yun had originally thought he would be scared until his arms and legs went limp by the current situation. However, after truly facing this kind of circumstance, he discovered that his mind became calm as never before, and he was even able to analyze the situation before his eyes.
Continuing to hide here could only mean waiting for death, he had to run quickly.
The problem lay in the route.
The serial killer had come in from the front classroom door. If he wanted to run, he could only go from the back door. Fortunately, when Xie Yun was choosing a classroom, he had been relatively conservative. This classroom happened to be situated right in the exact middle of the entire corridor. He could head straight to the main central staircase from the back door.
Exhaling a breath, he lowered his body even more, slowly scraping along the floor with his elbows and knees, crawling forward in the direction of the back door.
Carefully and cautiously evading all the desks and chairs, the back door was right before his eyes. Xie Yun braced his palms against the ground, bent his knees, rose into a semi-crouch, and then—
Run!
Although one could hide beneath the desks and chairs, locations like the front and back doors were completely open to view. Coupled with the action of opening the door, wanting to pass through soundlessly was practically impossible.
Rather than passing through sluggishly, it was better to take a gamble and use speed to win!
He grabbed the doorframe, using the momentum to fling himself into the corridor. At the instant he leaped out, the peripheral vision of his eyes allowed him to briefly glimpse the silhouette of that serial killer.
A shriveled, thin, and long man, who could almost be described as skin and bones, extremely mismatched with the colossal axe blade in his hand. His countenance was hideous, and his two eyes bulged out like a goldfish. The area right above the top of his head was dented downward a block, appearing as though it had been flattened by some heavy object. The indentation reached right down to the center of his brows, making his entire crown look like a camel’s hump.
He stared dead at Xie Yun, the expression on his face resembling both fury and madness.
Could this… still be considered a human?
There was no time for more thought. The moment his two feet hit the ground, the rapidly skyrocketing adrenaline urged Xie Yun to stride out, sprinting madly toward the not-far-away main central staircase.
From behind him came the loud crash of desks and chairs being overturned. The angry roar of the serial killer vibrated until his two ears buzzed.
Xie Yun originally thought the serial killer would continue to chase him, but unexpectedly, after he went down the stairs, that sound of footsteps stopped. Only the serial killer’s thick, heavy breathing continuously echoed in this quiet night, proving that he had not left.
Why did he stop chasing?
Could it be that serial killers cannot go down the stairs?
A trace of peculiarity surfaced in his heart, accompanied by a tiny bit of curiosity.
But very quickly, this curiosity was suppressed by Xie Yun.
Curiosity killed the cat.
In horror movies, those with an overflowing curiosity died early.
Don’t look at what shouldn’t be looked at, and don’t manage what shouldn’t be managed.
After repeating the above three sentences in his mind, Xie Yun did not turn his head back to satisfy his curiosity, but instead went straight down to the first floor.
On the first floor, inside the wide-open lobby, everything was so quiet and peaceful.
The terror of brushing past death and the rejoicing of surviving a disaster—the two emotions thwacked violently inside his heart.
Xie Yun wiped his face, discovering that his forehead and the palms of his hands had been soaked with cold sweat at some unknown point.
Without waiting for him to let out a sigh of relief, suddenly, the elevator rang again.
This time, it was on the western side.
“Ding-dong.”
The crisp notification chime was just like a proclamation of death.
Standing on the corridor, Xie Yun only felt a wave of horror violently crawl up the back of his head.
Calm down, calm down.
Maybe it’s just a player?
While comforting himself, he turned his head with difficulty to look over. He saw that on the originally pitch-black western corridor that seemed to have no visible end, following the sound, a thin, long strip of light lit up.
Very quickly, that strip of light slowly expanded along with the sound of the elevator door opening.
Then, a bloody human head rolled out.
Borrowing the light from the elevator, Xie Yun clearly saw that the human head had a terrified expression, its eyes widened with resentment, its mouth wide open, and its teeth stained by blood into a dark-purple red.
And this human head was merely a beginning. Very quickly, more mangled corpse pieces were thrown out of the elevator by someone—arms, thighs, internal organs…
The corpse pieces made contact with the marble floor, emitting a sticky, squelching noise. Blood flowed absolutely everywhere. It was not difficult to imagine what kind of hellish landscape that small elevator car had already become.
The dense stench of blood and the breath of death rushed straight at his face. Xie Yun seemed to have forgotten the nausea. His brain was screaming, yet his body was unable to move a single inch due to excessive terror.
He didn’t know if the serial killer on the second floor had left yet, and now a new one had come right before his eyes.
And very obviously, this elevator serial killer had an even more twisted and malicious sense of humor than the one on the second floor.
At the same time that Xie Yun felt broken, an indescribable anger also attacked his mind; he really wanted to curse.
What the fuck kind of ghostly place is this anyway? How could there be so many serial killers? The “count” written on the rules couldn’t truly be an unlimited number, right?!
If this kept up, let alone looking for a student ID, just evading these maniacs alone would already exhaust all of his mental energy!
The one on the second floor might still be guarding the staircase entrance. The main staircase couldn’t be taken, and running toward the eastern side might not leave enough time. What on earth should he do right now?
Xie Yun racked his brains thinking of a solution.
But fear had already eroded the greater half of his ability to think. Every piece of flesh and blood in his body was screaming, as though doing so could dispel a portion of the fear.
The surrounding darkness that was too thick to be dissolved also seemed to transform into a fathomless black ocean. Xie Yun was drowning in it, struggling painfully, almost unable to breathe.
A drop of cold sweat slid slowly down his jawline.
Inside the western elevator, the corpse pieces were very quickly thrown to completion.
A heavy, muffled thudding sound came from inside the elevator. That serial killer was about to come out!
Xie Yun suddenly raised his hand and pinched himself savagely. The amount of force he used was exceptionally large, nearly pinching himself to tears. And this intense pain gave him strength, briefly rescuing him from the state of emotion submerged in fear. Taking a few steps forward, he walked in the direction of the storage room.
The map showed that storage rooms were set up next to the main central staircases on the first, third, and fifth floors, available for players and serial killers to play hide-and-seek games.
Judging from the situation just now, the serial killers searched very thoroughly, so the safety of a player hiding away also became exceptionally low. However, there was no other choice at the moment.
Grit-ting his teeth, he walked into the storage room.
